Stuck in USB host mode? - HTC Droid DNA

So... since getting the update, it's become a pain to charge my phone. It's stuck in usb host mode each time I plug it into the charger, the only time it charges is after the phone is completely dead and off. Any solutions? It's pretty frustrating. Thanks.

I realize this is a bit of a late reply but I get that, too. But only on certain chargers. I can charge fine via USB to computer, wall adapter, or wireless charging. But the cable I have in my car shows this host mode - cannot charge. I'm going to try the car charger that I got with the phone when I get home (currently using the one from my Motorola Bionic since that has been in the car).
Edit:
In my case using the other car charger works as it should.

[Q] dropped phone. slow charging!

the other day my phone feel of the couch while pluggd into the pc. it stopped chargibg and woukd not connext to pc.
i lost the original cable so ive been using a mini to micro usb adapter for an old cable i had for my g1 which hss worked perfectly.
thought i had broke the sockey on thr phone. had a tmobile shop check it with there cable. it was fine. so boyght a microusb cable.
everything seemed fine. charge light. usb drive worked internet tether. but then the phone ran out of battety while usb tethering. it always stays at 100% before.
with the battery low it woukf rrstart every minute whole plugged into original chargrr.
its charging but very slowly. 15% in 2 hours. checked battery pins. seems fine. i dkd manage to get 37% charge in 30 monutes once irh the phone off.
the phone doesnt even get warm while plugged in. it used to get pretty warm when cuargibg.
tried hard reset. trief reflashig rom. it knows wall charger is in. says charging orange charge light.. but it charges sooo slow...
im stuck. is this a repair jobk
Just got home and tried the new cable in my home PC. ive already lost 1% battery in the space of a few miutes usb tethering....
make sure you have the "don't charge the phone while connected via usb" unchecked. Other than that, sounds like a hardware problem.
i cant find that setting, only do not charge when the phone is on., which is off. Ive just noticed something else. the brightness setting for AC power effects the brigthness when connected to usb. I dont think it knows the difference between ac and usb anymore.

when you plug it into the wall, do you get the menu for: Activesync, Disk Drive, Internet Sharing? If so, then this is true. Really sounds like a hardware issue. I would take it back in and see if they can replace the port.
nope, when i plug it into the wall, no menu. it does seem to know the difference between usb and power. as using the option "when phone is on, do not charge when the pohone is connected to pc" has no effect with the wall charger.
I tried a different wall charger. I have a travel charger which is only rated at 500ma instead of 1amp and it charges the same. I was able to get 100% overnight. woke up after 8 hours to see the green light on, it stays at 100% with the wall charger as long as you leave it alone.
back into the computer, tethering and im loosing battery as if it wasnt connected.
Looks like ill have to dig out my insurance as its not a warranty repair (and also the water damage stickers are red, due to it being dropped in the toilete 3 months ago)
hmmm interesting. phone has been in charger overnight and was at 100% when i got up, pluigged into pc for usb tethering, despite battery dropping the green light is still on.
Ive done some searches on usb micro cables and came across people having problems with some data cables with charging, as some cables cannot cope with the large current required, but they mentioned that there phone would say this and i have seen that on my phone before with my front usb ports on my computer.
Im gonna order a microusb adabter as i have 2 high qualiity usb-mini usb cables from a G1 (which was usbed with an adapter with no problems) and 1 from a tmobile mda varia, same cable.
This has now been solved. After closer examination of the USB mini to micro adapter, it apeared that the 2 outside pins (which are for charging) had been flattened. Looking at the adapter, you could only see the 3 middle pins, but with a torch you could see that the oiutside pins were compelty flat. from droping the phone its oviously twisted the connector resultinin in flatting those pins.
I went back to tesco and bought the same USB kit which comes with a mini USB cable and several converters to fit different phones.
AFter hooking up the cable and micro usb adapter to my PC, my phone was within minutes showing increase in battery charge. After a few hours with usb tethering enabled and watching videos online im up 2-%.
The cable i bought for £7.99 which is micro usb though doesnt mention any HTC phones (mostly nokia) will connect perfectly for data transfer and the phone appears to say its charging. It looses power suggesting insuficient charge current. Maybe its the rom im using disables thsi warning as i have seen this before when i connected my phone to the front usb ports, but it works fine with the back.
So, it seems i have not damaged anything apart from the usb adapter i was using.
All is well, and im charging at a fast rate with USB while tethering.
Please close this trhead as it is resolved.
Final update. After several days i have been usb tethering and charging absolutly fine. Using 1amp charger charges fast!
Even from a dead battery can plug into usb and have the phone bootup.

[Q] My Photon's battery won't charge from USB in car

Has anyone else had this problem? I plug my Photon into a USB power adapter plugged into my car's cigarette lighter and the phone displays the message that the device is charging but the percent of charge continues to decline. I have changed USB adapters and USB cables but it still happens. If I use an AC adapter and the same USB cable the phone charges correctly.
Is it a software or hardware problem? I was unlocked and rooted using several of the current custom ROMs and the charging process in the car worked then. When I re-locked and went back to stock and re-rooted then this happened.
i am having the same issue as of yesterday. Did you ever find out what the issue was?
im guessing that the car was off and that it was a foreign car...
Numerous issue could actually cause the same symptoms, Apps/games in the background... failing alternator, failing cigarette lighter, failing car adapter...
car not running while its charging could also cause this issue depending on charge level of the battery and the volts of the battery...
What you'll need to do is eliminate the possibilities..
Try with the car on and the phone on...
try with the car on and the phone off...
try with a different adapter for the car...
try with a different usb cord...
try with a magnum 44 aimed at it...
Try with a different Car is also another good option.
Ditto.
I am having the same problem.....worked fine before I unlocked/rooted. Anyone else have a suggestion?
I have the same issue with the incar charger and using a computers usb port to charge my phone..(doesnt charge when under load ..ie-dowloading something)...i think that it is the charger being underpowered..example..
Stock a/c charger puts out 850mA
Most computer usb and standard car usb chargers only put out around 500mA

Mine charges very slowly in the car. The other day, I plugged in at 32%. Drove 30 minutes to get home, and it had only reached 37%. Plugged in at home, and within 10 minutes had well over 50%, even though I was actively using it then.
This is on stock rooted, btw.
The stock drivers must use a very conservative power draw when plugged into a relatively low-output power source. By contrast, the power draw from a high-output AC adapter must be quite aggressive, because it charges more quickly than other phones I've used when plugged into AC.
It did turn out to be caused by the car charger being underpowered. I went to BestBuy and bought a "high capacity" charger and all is good!

Which specific car charger did you get? I'm having the same problem too!
The Photon needs at least 850mA charger to get charge currently. Otherwise it charge slowly or not charge at all.
Can anyone post a link to a specific charger that is working great for you and charging fast while in the car?
has any one who got charger working ? can anyone pls post the link to product
thanks in advance

TAblet wont charge thru outlet but thru dock

Hello everyone,
I have my 32GB TF201 with docking that I purchased 3 weeks ago. After I purchased I was able to charge my table directly thru outlet twice and once thru the dock. This week the tablet ran out of battery. I plugged it to the outlet with an empty battery and yellowish light was on. In the morning (after 6 hours of charging) I checked and the light was still yellowish. I said 'what the hell' and left home for work. When I came back I checked and saw that the battery was only charged to ~9%. I re-checked the outlet and it was not charging. The battery icon appears when I plug the cable but the status is 'Not charging' and it actually is not charging. I could then charge the dock thru the same outlet and usb cable up to 100%. I also could charge the tablet thru the dock's battery. the only problem is between the charger and the tablet itself. I will still take it to the service but I can still listen to ideas to check in the weekend.
Thanks a lot.
You probably have a busted charge port on the tablet itself. Try plugging the tablet to the computer and see if it registers. If not, more than likely the charge port on the tablet is broken.

that was the one thing I did not check and I will today. but the tablet is being charged from the dock that is connected thru the same port.
I am having the same no charging issue, but I do not have a dock. The device recognizes the computer just fine when I plug into that, but into the wall, I get nothing. Even when connected to the computer, all the connection info pops up (usb debugging, asus sync, etc) but it does not charge. Problem started this morning.

Okay, I first had this issue last night. Unplugging and plugging it back in fixed it at the time. Then this morning, I couldn't get it to charge at all (replugging it in multiple times) via AC or USB (though it did recognize the other USB things like it should). I managed to find a dock in stock nearby finally and picked one up today. Plugging the tablet into the dock charges off the dock like it should, and plugging in the dock charges it like it should. Now, miraculously, when I unplug the tablet from the dock and plug it back into the wall via AC, it works again.
So, don't know what exactly the issue is, or how exactly to fix it, but at least it seems to have fixed itself for the moment. And, now I have the dock if this happens again
hey there. i took the tablet to the service but to my luck the unit is flagged as 'defective on arrival' and I had to return it. I guess it was a ahrdware issue. I could not take a new one since the reseller was out of stock of TF-201. I am waiting for it to become available.
Wow - my tablet would not charge at all last night as I ran out of battery. I tried all the outlets in my hotel room and my PC, but it just seemed like the charge port was dead. I noticed that the trim around the charge port was a bit deformed, so the plastic part that abuts the bezel was not straight.
Anyways - I get to the office this morning and plug it in and now its charging - whew! This is eventually going for RMA since the HDMI is completely dead, and now it does seem the charge port is a bit loose. I am concerned it will happen again just when I need it!
Very frustrated with the quality issues - it's just harshin' my buzz with this tablet.
I've switched through three different primes (with issues unrelated to this) but I seem to notice that all of the chargers are like this. It seems like a security feature or bug (not sure) but if you keep the charger plugged into the outlet, it auto shuts off the charging adapter after being plugged in for a prolong period of time. If you take the charger out, leave it unplugged for an hour or two, then plug it back in. It will work again. All three of the primes I got do this. So I just remember to unplug the charger and don't leave it plugged in and the issue doesn't seem to happen anymore.
btw just a heads up:
- USB won't charge on computers unless your usb port is usb 3.0. If your usb is 2.0 it will only charge on idle (which you won't be able to tell really)
- Dock won't charge the tablet unless the tablet runs around 75% battery (sometimes higher sometimes lower) its in the FAQ

This is the exact replication of what's occurring with my TF201 with the exception that it is still not charging directly plugged into the tablet after I remove from the dock.
weird trick
I think this might be due to how some devices recognize power, i have the same issue with my iPod touch. I found that if you take the charger wire with adapter attached and plug that into the tab, then plug that into the wall it should normally work. My brother was having this issue also with his dock not charging, and this method makes it work.
Well, called ASUS support and got an RMA to send it in. Apparently something's wrong.

Device isnt charging again...

My phone wasnt charging and then once it hit 10% it started charging again, it shows its charging but it was still decreasing its outputting 6300mAh any suggestions?
Charging via USB or AC?
With the cable it came with or another?
I know mine barely charges at all through USB but charges fairly quickly while actually plugged into an outlet.

I learned over time the tricks of charging this puppy.
For example, while my Ford has a USB port in the car it's primarily for playing tunes off a USB device. If I use the actual phone while plugged into this port ... it actually just about holds steady.. it doesn't charge a single drop.
I drove for 2 hours recently with the phone screen OFF and plugged into this port. It gained 2%. I've since learned that if I had a 'charge only' cable with the correct pins shorted out, it might charge faster in the car ... of course, I would lose the ability to play tunes thru the USB connection -- but that's ok, I'd just use Bluetooth.
And not all AC chargers are created equal.. I've learned that part too.

Need power for Tab2

Running into a problem... While charging the Tab2 from the wall outlet, it is fine, works great. While trying to charge from a USB cable and my car, it says it is charging but there is a RED X on the battery... Research says this is from a charger with insufficient amperage to charge the tablet. Since this is going in a car as an in-dash install, I will not be able to access the power button. What I need is this: A way to make the USB port in my car more powerful... I want to use this because a key turning on powers the port which in turn wakes the tablet up, then the dev option for 'STAY AWAKE WHILE CHARGING' would apply and the tab would stay on... now, this works however with that Red X, the tablet charges but not enough to make the tablet stay awake... Any work around on this? I can not find much out there on this. Even if I have to tie a new 3A USB female plug in down there, that's fine... but what I need to know is, the factory OEM Samsung car charger claims to charge the tablet fine and it is only 2 Amps... I have a 2.4A charger and it does not work.
Or... is there maybe a setting someplace that I can make the tablet not go into a data mode when plugged in so it forces a charge or something? Or a way to modify the USB port itself to charge instead of data... thinking maybe the port is telling the tablet it is a data mode and not charge mode...
have you tried a power inverter plugged into the cigarette lighter (or hard-wired)? Or a more powerful USB Car charger?
