Hi...so I'm getting the gs3 and I will be getting rid of the vibrant... buying my gs3 from target who will give me 80 bucks for it... I know I can get twice that on eBay seeing the phone is mint...
Problem is the USB cover doesn't close and the charging Jack is weird...some cables work perfect while some, if I plug it in I have to nudge the cable and have it sit perfectly still otherwise it'll quit charging...
Should I just take the eighty bucks or try to sell on eBay and put this issue in the description?
I don't want someone buying it and then trying to get a refund because their cables do this and them using it as an excuse?
otherwise the screen and body is like new
Thanks for your input....

Give full info on eBAY and see how much you get...but you will get more than 80 bucks ie for sure.....but tell the full information about the phone like the wires and all so that they dont ask for a refund
Does anyone have any experience with removing a damaged charging port/flex cable? I made a thread about a week ago saying that mine was messed up and one of the wire strip on the charging slot was broken, but and didn't allow it to connect to my computer for file transfer. I talked to ATT and they said the store couldn't do anything and that I would need to call in. I don't want to take the risk of a huge charge, and found a single order part here www.etradesupply.com/oem-samsung-galaxy-note-sgh-i717-charging-port-flex-cable-ribbon.html
It is cheap, and I have e removed the back of my Note before, and removed most of this piece except for the ribbon, and which I have no idea how to. Are there any resources out there to help me with this? I don't want to mess up a new part trying to install this one.
(PS how do I start a new thread on the desktop site? I couldn't find anywhere to do it and SwiftKey isn't faster than using a real keyboard on my PC lol. I am obviously new)

Youtube is your friend. Watch the video and see the steps it takes. If you feel it's too much then try searching on your local Craigslist for a shop that may be able to fix it.

Bought 1 from ebay. Will try to do it myself when it's arrived.

Good luck. I did it myself as well. It is not that difficult.

Has anyone tried replacing just the digitizer on our phones? My friend's LCD is fine, it's just the glass that is cracked.
On my old HTC HD2 the digitizer was glued to the LCD, so swapping it out was pretty tough. I'm wondering if it's the same for this phone.
So it didn't charge also?

Yup, will be rough, it's glued.

Did you receive the part from that supplier? Was it the correct part? I ask because I need the same part for my Note. (Samsung told me that is not a part covered under warranty)

Just to follow up on my own post. I ordered the part, it arrived quickly, and it was DOA Waiting to hear from customer service now.
Be careful doing this I found the new part had the wrong antenna and my reception was gone afterward. Ended up replacing my phone because of that.

I tried 3 charging ports from ebay, all from diffrent sellers and they were all DOA... Check out parts4repair, I ordered mine and 2 weeks later, my phone is fixed!

I replaced mine, easy, just don't loose the screws, took about 5-10min

its took you that long to get the replacement port?
just replaced mine as well with the ebay one from ezletroniks(or something like that). $15 shipped, arrived in less than a week from California to Wisconsin.
Took around 10 minutes to replace. Charging up fine again which makes me very happy.
So it seems apparent that this is not a singular occurrence by any means, which is a little disheartening. But I just wanted to chime in and say that I'm currently on my 3rd charge port.
Fortunately, there's an awesome place a few miles away (I would trust the tech there with my life...he's fixed everything I've thrown at him thus far) that has been able to replace the part for me each time - but every damn time, it works perfect for about 2 weeks and then it goes back to the way it was before, which is always the same symptom: phone doesn't charge (or stay connected to the PC) unless I push the phone UP from back, and simultaneously push the end of the cable DOWN. And even then, sitting perfectly still, I get a sporadic connection.
Needless to say, the 2 extra OEM batteries/chargers (that you can charge just the battery with) and ADB over WiFi have become my best friends
So I'm wondering: (a) has anyone else had this problem multiple times like I have? And (B) has anyone else experienced the same thing as far as the "manual" method I have to use to keep it charging? I'm trying to, as much as possible, rule out the possibility that there's something else wrong with it
Replaced mine
Got the part, took about 15 minutes to replace. Hardest part was prying the bezel off the phone.
After replacing, putting it back together and making sure everything worked, I put the old port under a 30X loop to look at it.
on the board side, where the pins exit the plug, and go to the circuit boar, if you flex the port, I could see the pins LIFTING
off the pins on the board at the solder connection. If I had a micro solder iron & steady hand it would be a simple fix, but
since it took a 30X loop just to see it, and I don't have a micro iron, it was easier to spend less than 15 bucks, and 20 minutes
time to replace the thing :victory:

That's actually exactly what the repair shop told me was wrong with it...although I couldn't recall exactly until you said this. I'm pretty sure he's just re-soldered if each time, and never actually replaced the board.
So to a non-hardware person...is that problem due to faulty manufacturing/poor quality parts on the Samsung end? Or does that just end up happening to all devices with a MicroUSB connection as they get used?

I have a couple of guesses. One picture showed the connector was loose. It looks to me that the case tabs aren't soldered in. The other thing is I have one cable where the metal part sticks so far out that the plastic never touches the phone. It like sticking a screwdriver in the socket because you can wiggle the socket up and down. I now use a cable the plastic part touches the phone and doesn't wiggle the socket very easily. Wiggling any wire will eventually break it because of metal fatigue.

Today my port on my vibe broke/burned idk how, but i want to replace it. Any diy tips, how to do replace it, if i can get someone to fix it for me, and the cost. I may switch over to the galaxy s 3 soon if it is too hard.

www.mobiletechvideos.com sells replacement usb ports and will install it for you if that's what you want. I think its around $35 if you buy that part and have them replace it. They have videos showing how its done so you could just buy the part and replace it yourself but it involves soldering, I wouldn't attempt it yourself unless your confident in your soldering abilities. You can't go wrong with mobile tech, they are a very trusted source.

Hi All,
I managed to leave my sgs2 charging all night in a small pool of water...
This was about a week ago, and the phone still works ok after pulling off the back cover and drying it out, looks like the water only just made inside the back cover.
Unfortunately the phone thinks it is now always charging and burns through the battery in about 8 hours and the phone is always hotter than usual.
If I plug it into a windows pc, it just says it's an unrecognised device. the phone doesn't recognise that it's connected via usb.
Is this something that could be fixed at a reasonable price at a service center? or should I bin it and buy a sgs3?
Clean the usb port
It maybe damaged I have seen similar reports of phone thinking it's charging and the problem was in the phone port

You can find the part on ebay and replace it: http://cgi.ebay.fr/NAPPE-USB-Dock-C...pt=FR_Mobiles_PDAs_Autres&hash=item3f1a778f7b
As has been said, replace the usb port. Its very simple on this phone.

Hi there,
I am looking for a way to charge my i9100 without using the usb port, as it is broken. I do know some phones have external charging pins hidden under the battery cover - my wife's Nexus S has those. Nonetheless I couldn't find them on my Galaxy S II. Anyone had some experience with this? I do know one can buy and replace the usb port together with the whole bottom circuit board, which would probably fix my problem. But I got the phone for free to use before buying a new one and I did not want to put any money into it

Hi namarath,
I have the same problem. The usb flex cable I bought to exchange the broken one was broken itself, which is common. As a solution I bought an external battery charger for just 5 Euro on Aliexpress. Works fine since I have two batteries. The indicator light switches from pink to blue when charged. Be warned that this light is bright like disco lights
Cheers

Buying a broken replacement USB port/board assembly is NOT common......buying the WRONG version of the board IS common....There are 4 different non interchangeable versions.
See this guide that I wrote for explanations.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335961
But yes, I agree, an external charger and spare battery is a good option....I have done this for both my S2 and S5......

Hi keithross39,
Well, unfortunately in my case everything but loading the battery did work with the new flex cable which indeed had the same version number. So I was one of the few to pick a broken one But thanks for your work in that area!
