Hi! I am newbie to flashing roms. This the first time I am gonna flash a custom rom. I installed a custom kernel before but due to lack of my skills and experience, I got stuck in boot loop. Then I got it repaired. Now once again, I wanted to flash a rom but with step by step guide from you people. I have rooted and installed cmw recovery on my Gio successfully. I have downloaded adrenaline rom second edition zip file and put it in my sdcard. There is something like mount system or data. I am currently on stock rom. Here is the link to adrenaline rom 2nd edition:

Ok guys heres the deal....i recently got a samsung fascinate from my sister cause I couldnt mod my inc any more. ok so....i got the phone rooted. i have su perm. i downloaded rom manager and installed it. now heres my problem. i can preform a backup no problem, but when i go to restore that backup it boots into clockwordmod and begins and then get an error about erasing boot img. or something like that. can tell exactly if i get some help from this. also cant install custom roms like i can with my incredible. i know it can be done cause i see roms and all for this phone. can someone please please help me.
Thats because cwm3 will not perform nandroid restores on stock roms. You need to flash cwm 2.5.1.x red recovery. Its the best recovery imo for any bml(touchwiz) rom. Go over to my guide in general section and you cand find cwm 2.5 in section 2&5. Oh and ditch rom manager...manually install cwm via odin!
If you're coming from an incredible, also keep in mind you don't have to be rooted to flash roms either, you just have to have a custom recovery. There aren't really any modifications like rooting procedures, S-OFF, etc, required for rom flashing, just odin a recovery and flash your selected rom.
Hi guys,
Yesterday I did some research on which custom ROM to install (I need to get my android version from 2.1 to 2.2 or higher). Various topics about custom ROMS are available here but the instructions aren't always as clear for a newbie.
Fyi: I got a HTC Hero.
In another topic I read this:
Wipe
Flash ROM
Don't reboot
Flash kernel
Reboot
Click to collapse
So firstly I'll make a backup of my contacts and of my contents of the phone, I guess?
How do I flash the current ROM?
Why is not rebooting a pointer? Is it that dangerous?
I have no idea what flashing the kernel is, or how I should do this.
And last, I think I know how to reboot, hopefully.
Furthermore, after downloading the custom ROM I want, I put it on my SD card or something I guess?
Thanks for the help guys!
Little update: downloaded ClockworkMod and tried to instal, but I already got an error. Failed to extract or something like that.
Well install cwm for your device
You can reboot by pulling out your own battery and put it back on
Flashing rom means flashing the whole os
Flashing the kernel means just flashing a part os
Both have similar installation procedures
YA YOU NEED TO COPY THE ZIPS TO SD
BE sure to flash a rom that's meant for your device (important)

Hi, been lurking, great forum, seems like lots of help here.
History of what I have done
I am new to rooting and flashing roms. I followed a step by step guide on how to root my gt-i9100m and install custom rom. The custom rom was Rainbox v7. poor battery life, followed another guide and installed siya kernel which was not compatible. reloaded philz kernel, everything was fine. Tried to update to rainbox 8.3, got stuck in boot loop, did full backup and wipe prior. attempted a restore, still stuck in boot loop. recovery menu was siya recovery. enter recovery again after restore, now in philz? performed another recovery using philz recovery, still stuck in boot image loop with black screen in between. from philz recovery i re flashed rainbox v7 zip, and i seem to have fixed it.
What went wrong? How do I avoid doing this again, is there an updated rainbox that i can install?
Please help, also, I am not fully versed with the short terms you often use, please be patient.
When moving around JB aka Jelly Bean or from an ICS aka Ice cream sandwich -=or=- GB aka Ginger Bread to JB... flash that particular roms kernel (or compatible) before trying new rom or restoring nandroid aka... you get the picture

Hey everyone,
i've got an i9300 device with 4.1.1 (XXDLIH) on it
I wanted to installed a custom rom on it (Omega ROM v38)
First i flashed CWM via Odin like in the instructions, after that i downloaded the rom put it in the sd card and booted the phone into CWM, i did the wipe and factory reset and choosed the rom zip for installing
After about 10 minutes the phone rebooted, but it is still on stock rom, so i thought what could the problem be and remembered that i need to root the phone first.
Now i have the problem that i can't (don't know), i don't know which way i should use for rooting so that i can afterwards install the Omega Custom rom ....
Note that i have now the CWM 5.5 recovery and don't know how to get back to stock recovery ...
Please if someone could tell me exactly what should i do, how exactly to root it and install the rom :/
Thanks everyone in advance
If you think that it would be better to install another custom rom then feel free to tell me

Hello dear community
This is my very first thread I am making on this website, so please pardon me if I am on the wrong page of this website.
Anyways, I'm more or less desperate. I saw a youtube tutorial on how to install Android 4.4 Kit Kat on a Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 and I heard I'd need root AND a custom recovery.
Because I'm a total newbie to this kind of stuff, I tried the very first thing I saw that had something to do with custom recovery, because I already had my phone rooted. So, I looked up a tutorial on youtube on how to install CWM custom recovery and ended up with installing it successfully, but now my phone is stuck in a bootloop. As I already mentioned, I am a newbie and therefore I am very desperate at the moment, you know.
The only thing I can do is go to Recovery Mode, but if I try to turn the phone on it gets stuck in a bootloop (It actually doesn't loop at all, it just freezes at the moment when the Samsung Galaxy Note logo appears and doesnt do anything after that.).
I think my problem is that I actually threw a new Kernel on my phone, because the video title says "How to install Kernel with CWM [...]"
I would be very very very very very grateful if anyone was kind enough to help me get out of this!
I really need help!
Thanks!
PS.
If this helps you help me:
This happened when I had Android 4.1.2 installed.
There's going to be 2 ways to get out of this:
1) Reinstall the stock firmware via Odin.
2) Install a custom rom via recovery.
Personally, I'd go with number 2 because a) you wanted to update anyway and b) if you have the right recovery and rom, it'll be easier as you can just put the files you need on an external SD card and install via the custom recovery. Now, not all recoveries are able to flash any file. Many times you need specific ones to install the newer android versions. So, if you are wanting to install something 4.4 based, then using a recovery that was made, say, last year, probably will not work well if at all.
Another thing to try first, is to wipe the cache and dalvik cache in recovery since you said you tried to install a kernel. It is always recommended to wipe these when installing (assuming you did pick a compatible kernel with what you were trying to install).
