ROM options for i717 when BLN is needed - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

So I'm still running an old flappjaxxx UCLF6 build (Android 4.0.4). Part of the reason I've not flashed in such a long time is because I'm completely dependent on BLN working for notifications.
At the time I stopped flashing, source code hadn't been released so there was no way to run BLN on say a CM based ROM. My questions are:
1. Has this changed, and if so what more current ROMs enable BLN?
2. If BLN still is not available, what other apps are people using for notifications?
TIA

[ROM] CyanogenMod 6.2.0 BETA - 06/03/11

Got bored tonight, ended up merging my Vanilla FroYo device tree and fixes into CM6. The result appears to work just about as well as Vanilla FroYo
*** Not Working (so far) ***
MMS
BT calls
Camcorder
*** Working ****
RIL - 3g data/calls/sms
WiFi
GPS
Camera - with color preview
rotation and proximity sensors
sdcard and USB mass storage
BT - file transfer and a2dp (I *think*)
Basically same status as my Vanilla FroYo ROM. My device is deactivated, so there are obviously plenty of things I cannot test personally.
This is built off the latest CM6 code, proprietary files from the "ec01" rom that Adryanalyne just released, and merged with my fascinate device tree and device specific fixes. The manifest for the code is here.
Flash ROM via clockworkmod recovery, then flash gapps and a compatible AOSP kernel from here. You may also use aosp kernels from nemesis2all. Make sure to wipe data!
***** Update 4/11 *****
fix roaming triangle
fix voodoo conversion
remove unneeded battery-draining debug
add rotary incoming call screen from CM7
remove those stupid arrows from the rotary lock
updated gapps
***** Update 4/15 *****
fix phantom ringer issue (hopefully)
increase MAX_VOLUME; hopefully incall audio should be a bit louder
fix a few camcorder errors (don't expect anything to work yet, it's a WiP)
add lots of RIL and camera debug
if anyone still has any issues with incoming calls or roaming triangle, please let me know!
***** Update 4/18 *****
fix roaming issues for remaining users
fix Google Voice in contacts "Voicemail handler" option
remove dev tools app and "videos" shortcut
***** Update 6/03 ****
Back from the Dead
fixed camera preview - now in living color!
implemented better signal bars fix (thanks Adr0it)
use the same kernel and gapps packages as before!
ROM - 04/18
ROM - 06/03
gapps
Enjoy
MMM thank you sir!

working like a charm !
wow sweet. gonna test this tonight.
As always fantastic work Jt
Wow too much stuff to try. MIUI is just too nice for me to switch but I think I'll give this a try sometime this week when I'm less busy. Thanks!
Would it be possible to merge this into mainline cyanogenmod? I don't know if they still work on cm6 since this is my first android device and I don't follow them too closely.
If mms work in future update, I will def give it go.
But always good to see some progress CM.

No. No MMS means that you can't send pic/vid messages. I just use email though.
Screenies?
Seems I've lost root after installing. Hmm

If you lose root, you will still have the custom clockworkmod recovery, so all you would need to do to get back root would be to flash a superuser package, which you can download directly from rom manager under "cool stuff" or something like that. Losing root is no big deal once you have a custom recovery.

LED notification? Anyone using it?

Hey,
LED notification? Anyone using it?
Are you all using BLN or some other?
CM7 used to have a built in led notification on the buttons like BLN in my older phone, but it cm7 doesnt seem to have it built in for this phone.
So what can I use for notification led? As I have stock kernel so it i cannot use bln....
Thanks
So just flash a Kernel with BLN support, ex- Ninphetamine 2.1.3.
but flashing non stock kernel losses battery right?
what are other disadvantages?
It actually increases if you can UV a little bit with SetCPU or use an already UV'ed kernel like SpeedMod or else.
That's a very wrong info you have there.

A non-stock kernel usually improves battery.
However, based on reading the BLN sources and talking to some people, BLN on the I9100 has the same problems it had when I tried to implement it on the I777 - a permanent wakelock while the LED is on, which IS bad for battery life.
Believe it or not. You get used to no LED.
I used Noled too untill i noticed a great battery decrease on a daily basis.

I'm now using dorimanx latest kernel 7.15.1 and it's still not working. But it does if I test it using Stweaks. Is there a way to specifically set it up to work now as there is also blnww? Thanks

Bln for stock sms app doesn't work. Only for missed calls. Try to install a 3rd party app like go sms ,handcent.

Thanks mate but I already use handcent sms. Is there a setting I need to use in there? And I don't think bln works for missed call neither
EDIT: nope, no bln for missed calls neither

Stock apps can't manage LED notifications even if a kernel allows it. So missed calls don't work neither without help of any 3rd party apps.
You can try:
1. BLN Control - only missed calls
2. Light Flow light - various types of notifications possible (incuding missed calls and sms/mms)
Wohoo. Finally I solved my problem. When using handcent, you must tick the led notification in the settings. I'm happy now.

CM 10 notifications

I've been messing around with various JB ROMs, but I prefer flashing the nightly builds. Recently I've noticed I only get notifications on the nightly build for my stock apps such as gmail, email, and messaging. Snapchat displays no notification and I have to open the app to manually check for updates. Notifications for everything worked fine on the latest PA ROM. Any idea what's going on?

Yes I did!
I wasn't sure what the problem was so I actually had a very similar thread since I thought they were 2 different issues.
Basically you can't restore snapchat with titanium backup.
If you uninstall it and reinstall it via the playstore it will work.
The other thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36723851

CM 11 KitKat- some problems found and fixed + questions

Errors I resolved
- Swiping text input
- Partial root to full root (CM 11 by itself did not allow me to use Nandroid Manager because of this)
What I did fixed both
1. Installed CWM Superuser (Play Store)
2. Allowed Superuser app to update in recovery mode-- stayed in recovery
3. Advance options --> reboot to recovery
4. This prompted CWM recovery to fix root. Selected yes
5. Rebooted and these problems went away.
Not exactly sure how swipe input was fixed by this but I'm happy. Any ideas?
I must say deep sleep is very good, and a bit better than CM 10.2.
One thing i missed from CM 10.2 is the setting to turn off hardware button back lights. My
guess why its not in CM 11 is because development just started. So instead I found the app:
Night Mode which does the same thing plus dims the brightness even more.----> good battery saver
If this app can do it, i think the feature in CM 10.2 should still be able to work in CM 11.
This brings me to another question. Is there something i can tweak two permanently disable the hard-
ware button back lights?

There's no thing yet to turn off the lights yet, just give cm some time so they can get all their things together.

Rom?
What rom did you use to install 4.4? I have been looking a long time for one.
I might suggest waiting before installing a 4.4 rom, unless you want to beta test.

This is kitkat CM 11 the most recent development for ypg1 aka galaxy player 4.4
i went back to modified stock REDD because of some the issues i had with CM 11. Don't get me wrong cm 11 has quite a bit of features REDD doesn't have but it's a bit too unstable for me.

nvm mind; I figured my problem out. Google voice was set to receive notifications through the built in phone sms app instead of the google voice app. I have seen the light and am using 10.2. Btw do you think CM 10.1 is a better as dedicated music player (or simple tasks) rom than other roms?
