[Q] Settings Stopped Unexpectedly - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

when i tried to open the 'Location and security' under settings, its gave me an error message saying 'The application Settings(process com.android.settings) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again', i have a rooted smartphone and this problem never occured untill now, any suggestions? i am on a rooted gingerbread 2.3.3

Do some work...
1.Go to recovery mode by switch offing the phone and then rebooting into recovery mode by POWER+HOME+VOLUME UP
2.Clear cache.
If problem is not solved u may have to do a Factory Reset & Data Wipe...

Clearing the cache/dalvik cache and fixing permissions should do it. If you have a modded version of the settings.apk such as a theme or whatnot that could very well cause the issue. Good luck!

alright this is wierd, i tried entering into recovery mode but my phone would restart normally instead, i tried installing bootmenu manager but it always gives me a parsing error message(would really fancy a site/place where i can download a correct file app of the same) i nevertheless installed quick boot tool from playstore...entered the recovery mode...cleaned my dalvik cache and fixed the perms as you said and rebooted, and guess what, PROBLEM NOT SOLVED, it still FC on me giving the same error message, anymore suggestions??
also I haven't modded my system files whatsoever although i have uninstalled some preinstalled apps which were not system apps but just simple music, video apps etc, can it be the reason, anyway if i can undelete them, i have no backup of em anymore
P.S.- sorry for any misspelt things

[Q] Market does not upgrade /download at all?

Hello, Have G tab with vegan tab on it.
Tried honeycomb and never came out of boot up 20 minutes.
Went back and restored to past vegan tab rom and everything was good but market. Tried market fix numerous times. Reloaded rom serveral times market fixes. Still market will not update present apps or download new free ones even.
what it does do..
when you start to download if flashes downloading
then it flashes downloading paused.
then downloading failed and stops all together.
any thoughts or fix?
tablet details:
Vegan tab -v1.0.0b5.1
android version 2.2
kernal 2.632,9-dirty [email protected]#6
cwm recovery 2.5.1.8
rom manager ver 3.0.1.4
thanks, layback
Dont use Rom Manager to start with. I would wipe data/ format in cwm and then reinstall rom.
Try clearing cache and data force close from application running. And run market again.

After OTA, Re-rooted, "Android Upgrading" boot message

I rooted with CF-Root V6.4, and just did an OTA firmware update to go to XXLG3. After completing the update, I rebooted then re-rooted.
Everything seems to be working just fine, except that on every boot up, I now have an "Android Upgrading" message show up before the lock screen shows.
Anyone know how I can get rid of this?
------ Update -------------
I charged up the phone and then left it turned off over night. This morning, the "Android Upgrading" message on start up seems to have gone.

Just did what you said. After wipe cache, wipe dalvik, fix permissions and rebooted. After reboot, the phone started to redo "Android Upgrading, Optimising Applications", then the message "Android Upgrading, Starting Applications" is shown. Rebooted, and the 2nd message "Android Upgrading, Starting Applications" shows before the lock screen.
Any other suggestions?
Same problem here. I followed these steps but still getting this annoying "upgrading" message. Any other suggestion?

Resolved itself
Last night, I charged it up to 100%, then shut it down and left it overnight. This morning, the annoying "Android Upgrading, Start Applications" message on boot up seemed to have gone. I didn't do anything at all. Glad it's gone though... :good:

When you wipe dalvik its normal to show it but just once. On the 2nd reboot should be gone. And thats how you fixed it.

Stop using cracked apps...
I am not using such app lucky patcher and have this issue too... Did all steps suggested and its still there after every reboot...
I have found fix for this error, it is mainly due to odex files which are created by lucky patcher so deleting these files using lucky patcher itself will surely remove this error with 50 percent success rate. Here's the fix; open lucky patcher, there in lower left section you can see Toolbox, click Toolbox button then select 4th last option i.e Remove all odex files. Thats it android will reboot on itself and vola no android is upgrading. . Even if u didn't install apps like LP just try to remove faulty odex files(for location refer to attachment).
Check out attachement for help.

[Q] After installing Kernel, its freezing and restarting

Hey guys, last week I installed MROM (http://www.montuori.net/android-mrom/atrix-mrom/) and had been using it without having any problem, I loved it. Yesterday, I heard a kernel that can be good for battery life so I wanted to install it. (http://www.montuori.net/android-mrom/atrix-kernels/ sv build) I installed it and first boot took about 10+ mins. but after first reboot it was normal. And I started having problems like it freezes and the phone shut down itself. sometimes restarts itself. and when using an application (like facebook, dolphin browser, games etc.), it suddenly closes the application.
I also tried to install other kernels but it gives me an error when I try to install it (installation aborted error) . how can I go back to my first MROM times? but I don't want to lose any data in my phone like my applications and settings. How can I do it? Can anybody give me some advice?
Also, what's that MROM update.zip? Is there anybody who knows it? If I install it, does it solve the problem that I'm having?
If I install MROM again, does it delete the apps in my phone? Its an emergency guys, I can't use my phone normally. Thanks in advance.
Happy new year!!
Wipe cache & dalvik cache, then reinstall mrom. Your apps, etc should be unaffected.

I still can't install even MROM. gives an error, exactly like;
--Installing: /sdcard/atrix-MROM-20121111.zip
Finding update package...
Openin update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/atrix-MROM-20121111.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.--
I'm about to lose my mind. :/
you could try to re-install MROM and see where this gets you - do not wipe any data/system when installing and you should have everything still on your phone.
IF that fails to solve problem you could try and use Titanium back up to save YOUR apps (not system apps) and then do a full wipe of your phone and re-install MROM
I'm around for a bit so will check on how you're doing
good luck
when i try to reinstall, it gives me the same error. now im going to back up my all apps and after that factory reset and finally will try to reinstall mrom. I'll write when I do this. thanks
I did everything right, wiped all data cache and tried to reinstall mrom but it gives me the same error :/

what happens when you turn on phone?
are you able to install another rom?
It might be an idea to download a fresh copy of MROM and see if that helps?
also, after putting the new rom on the phone but before installing go to 'mounts and storage' (in the CWM menu list) and format the following 'pre-install, system, osh, data and cache'
I hope that helps.

I'm out of my mind. :/

glad that you got somewhere, If i were you I might try and repeat the steps you used with success (install cm 7.2) and then just add what google apps you need separately and see where that takes you.

I thought, If I try all these steps from the begining, maybe it'd be successful (from stock rom!!) so that I installed back my stock rom with RSD Lite. and rooted, unlocked, installed CWM Recovery. and I have just tried to install MROM but it's still giving me the same error. I really can't understand why... It was like my first day of my phone, I did every single step from the begining, but still the same error. omg

latest gmail update causes reboot when accessing new mail via notification panel

Just got the gmail update to 4.3 and everytime i access new mail via the notification panel, my phone reboots. I'm running stock rooted ICS w/o any other issues. Anyone else notice this?
I had the same problem. I ended up uninstalling the update and then reinstalling with a regular restart. I'm not sure what exactly fixed it.
I'm also stock ics rooted. It works fine now. Try just restarting (regular restart). If that doesn't work, clear the app data.

I have a worst problem:
I upgraded Gmail
I checked the email
The phone restarted.
Since then it keeps restarting again and again...
any idea for solving it?
Thanks in advance!

Already tried it, with no success! I also wiped cache partition.
Now I'm trying to uninstall gmail app using ABD during boot, in the hope to do it before it reboots, but so far I had no luck.
The command I'm using is:
Code:
adb uninstall com.google.android.gm
Do you think it's a feasible way?
EDIT: Is there a way to boot the phone in safe mode? All I found on the internet is how to reboot it into safe mode!
If ur phone is rooted u could install root app delete and try to uninstall Gmail from that
Here's the link"https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=zsj.android.uninstall
After uninstalling the Gmail app if the problem still persists than maybe u could re flash ur rom but most probably the problem will get solved after uninstalling the app..

My problem is that my phone doesn't boot!! It keeps reboot right after the Insert PIN screen appears.
So I have no chance to use the Android GUI.
I tried also booting in safe mode, but the same applies, as soon as the PIN screen appeas, the phone reboots!
Well than I guess u only have one option i.e go to cwm recovery and wipe data/factory reset
Ur phone would b in the condition wen u bought it... Every app u installed will b deleted including Gmail it would of previous version so it will solve ur problem..

[HELP] "the process com.android-phone has stopped"

Hey Guys,
It may be a long story but anyways: Suddenly, I got yesterday the message "Unfortunately the process com.android-phone has stopped" on my Xperia Sola (JB Experiencev2 , not unlocked), whenever i got in the Settings Menu. So I thougt maybe it will disappear when I'm restarting the phone. Unfortunately, my sola was stock in a bootloop. Through Recovery Menu I tried everything, but it still got the bootloop. People said I had to flash the stock rom, I did it and now it could boot and everything, but I got the message back at the first guide when you start your phone the first time And it won'T go away
How can I solve this ((
I think when I'm trying to rebbot the phone again, there will be a bootloop again
Go to settings/apps and clear contact storage i believe it is.

Did you restore a backup after flashing? This happened to me once when I was using muiu and then flashed JB, and restored using Titanium Backup. I think it restored some files from MIUI which were causing this :S I had to wipe again and flashed JB, and then I didn't restore but had to reinstall all my apps from scratch

Okay, I flashed just the stock rom again and then everything seemed to work again... I could play all apps and facebook and twitteetc., but then I wanted to change something in the settings on language & input and then it came: "the process com.android-phone has stopped". And most of my apps didn't work anymore like Play store etc. So what do I have to do??? Why is the Rom or something so fu*ked up, please tell me what to do step by step.
And yes i wiped data, i think.
