Hi ,
I've been searching all over xda for an app or a script that could give more control over a swap file present in the SD card .By more control ....I mean ...is it possible to select which apps ram usage can be swapped to the file and is it possible to prevent ram usage of some apps from being swapped ? The reason is that after 1 or two days the device becomes extremely laggy and have to restart and apps start freezing just with a swap file of size 50 mb.
I use an LG L3 running on large rev 2 with SD merge .
For the swap file I use Ram expander .
Thanks in advance

hi everyone here
i am a new guy here,my device is the archos 101 16G.after i install the urukdroid 0.7 in the internal stock(16G),it run well.
i also found its " Available space" become 735MB.not casual 256MB.however,its "free memory" for running apps is just 110MB(when i kill most of services and apps).concequently,after three or four web pages opend(especially flash on),the browse collapse!,i think it is killed dued to lack of free memory.
so .who can tell me why? "735MB" just a fiction?
thanks
No fiction, just missinformation on your side.
"Available space" equals to the space left on the /data partition. This is the space you have for installing Apps an their private data.
This has nothing to do with the amount of memory the processor has to operate.
This stays at 256 MB.
After Android is started you probably have around 100MB left of that.
If you need more memory, you have to enable swapping and/or compcache.
thanks for your help,
i wonder is it stable to SWAP "256Mb" in my SDcard?
and the"swap swappiness" value should be "10" or "60" or other?
addtionally,is it any way swapping in the internal stock? i mean the infernal 16G
thanks too
This is a good question, but we can not answer this really.
1. Swappiness means the lower the value the harder the kernel tries not to swap.
2. You can put the swapfile onto the internal drive, BUT as you constantly run out of mem ( by your description ) you will have alot of writecycles.
And a SD has a limitted write contingent so your internal drive might age faster, and because you can't change that i personaly would not use it for swap.
But there are some reports that normal SD cards sometimes give a freeze.
If you use Dolphin Browser you can decide to put the cache onto SD.
ok,thanks a lot,
seems that i have to use the dolphin and age my SDcard both
by the way,anyone could give me some tips how to swap in sdcard?
is it neccessally to repartition sdcard and how?
Swap
Swapper 2 is pretty easy.
Swapper 2 (for Root users)
To put the Swap partition on your sdcard go to; settings - Swap place - and enter.
/sdcard/sdcard/swapfile.swp
You can also change - Swappiness - and - Swap Size - in settings if you choose to.
After changing settings go back to home page and push ON button. It will then create the swap on your sdcard, be patient this takes a few seconds. You can see the Swap file on your sdcard using file manager. It automatically turns itself on after reboots.
To use USB you have to turn Swap on your sdcard off by simply going to Swapper 2 and press the OFF button.
When finished using USB simply turn it back on or it will turn back on after your next reboot.
I tried so many time,
but can not use.
->Creating swap file OK
->Changing permissions OK
->Formatting swap OK
->Enabling swap(file) Fail
->
swapon: /sdcard/swapfile.swap: Function not implemented
Plz how to solve this problem. swapper2 said (If On not working on your phone, try to download busybox)
The kernel doesn't support swap by default.
I would like to ask u,my bro K900
I don't understand Swapper2, I look tutorial for swapper2.
But they said
" Swapper preferences: (for kernels that doesn't have swap partition support)
Run swapper at startup (put a check)
Swap place: /sd card/swapfile.swp (you can place it in a folder if you don't like a messy sd card structure )
Swap size: MIN: 10 MB MAX: 256MB RECOMMENDED: 32MB (choose any)
Swapiness: RECOMMENDED: 10MB SYSTEM DEFAULT: 60MB MAX: 100MB (choose any)
Safe unmount (put a check)
Safe remount (put a check)
Advanced preferences: (for Kernels that supports swap partition only)
Use swap partition (put a check)
Swap partition: /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 "
Plz, i don't know about this. sorry for my english bad.
Why do you need it? Besides i've never heard creating a swap partition on the internal storage given that the U has no SD card slot.

But It can create swapfile.swap on internel storage. I would like to ask more memory on my XP U ( I also used RAM Manager & Super Manager ).
My memory always 80 MB to 100 MB. How to do ? Plz. my bros. Other App?
80-100 is fair enough. Remove the bloatware and it should be~150mb free at all times. Anyways free Ram is wasted Ram. I still don't think you need swap

I have usually 170mb ram free.
have you ever heard of v6 supercharger?
anyway I don't think creating a swap is necessary since 512mb are enough for the heavier task this phone could do, I usually have around 150mb free ram, and that's enough to keep browser, music player, and another whatsoever-might-be-needed application

150MB? Wow? How do you do that? I don't have 150MB after boot neither.

Close the running services. If you're rooted block apps from re spawning on their own using rom toolbox. This keeps the RAM free

I think it isn't a good idea. The swap can kill the sd cards easy, but U have internal storage, so you can't replace it. So it could be an expensive fun.
Services are restarting itself again if I stopping them. And I don't have root.

swapping? i dont think we need it even i have 80mb of free ram even after reboot and less than 40mb without clear memmory, i use my phone heavily playing game HD browsing music watch movie etc etc etc and i have not reboot my phone for a week, 122hours exactly there is no problem i found
yep this is smart phone and it should be know how to manage it's own ram
I have a telus (AT&T type ) Samsung Galaxy S3 and I have the stock rom and my phone is rooted. Now my phone is getting too slow so I want to increase my ram and I was using roehsoft ram expander first I use the memory check swap and it showed that my phone fully supports swapping but when I started using roehsoft and tapped swap activ then it would just give me a swapon error - invalid argument and it does not increase my ram need help to figure that out please help I used my internal and an external SD card to test but both are in vain plus it always shows that my SD card has write protection whereas I can add all stuff into it! Any ways the help I need is for the invalid argument error.
First, download sdfix from play store and fix SD card write(just as a precaution). Third part apps cannot write to SD card.(unlike the default stock apps like file explorer etc)
Then, in ram expander, choose 'media_rw' in the 'choose partition'.
Hope this solves your problem. ?

Thanks by the way, I can't find media_rw option
Hello everybody,
I bought an android tv stick but i noticed that the space to install applications was pretty low 500 mb which is not enough, but the space to store the files was 5 gb!
My question is is there a way to increase the memory to install applications, or to make as samsung use the space to store the files and applications at the same time? Give me all possible solutions ...
thanks for reading
Hey guys,
I have a rooted J320F and to get more RAM, i used the ROEHSOFT RAM EXPANDER and it worked a day.
After restarting my phone, the app says: device or sd busy .
This error pops up not all the time. For example: Now i can start the app and activate the Swap but the system dont use VRAM. I have 1,5Gb free from 1,5gb.
i found only this post

The RAM Expander uses a swap file to be used as a ram, it is a virtual memory.
Virtual memories are slower than physical ones.
Your phone will become slower than ever before.
The app is for those phones that have very low ram, near to 512 MB
I am saying this from my own experience.
