10,000mah battery and bedside docks - Galaxy Note 3 Accessories

I already have the i-Bolt car dock and it should work with the big battery and case no trouble. Have any of you big battery guys found a desk dock that will work with the big battery and rugged case yet?

I can confirm that the iBolt car dock works perfectly with this battery and rugged case. I wish there was a way to adjust the spring tension, it does take 2 hands to get into the bracket now. I also cut off the cover flap to make insertion of the power easier.
Still wondering about a bedside dock that will work with this. I simply propped it up last night with the battery fully charged. I lefGentel Alarm running in night mode with the night display on all night. It only drained this battery fromn full to 88% in 7 hours of sleeping with the display on.
I'm very happy with this battery so far.

Does anyone that has the 10,000mah Zero Lemon battery use it in the rugged case with a bed side dock? What bed side dock are you using?

GPS & Battery Charging

I've noticed that when using TeleNav / ATT Navigator, my battery doesn't charge.
I do a soft reset and stop using GPS, the battery begins to charge.
This has happened with several Roms, so this leads me to believe that it's an equipment issue. I don't know if I'm alone with this issue.
Something like this is easy to overlook. The only reason I noticed is because I had to use GPS a lot more than usual and my battery went out while it was supposed to be charging.
If you're using any type of GPS, take a look. If you're good or not, just state what you use.
Thanks.
Mine will charge when I am using Garmin or GoogleMaps.... I have noticed that if the phone gets to warm it will still discharge even if it is plugged in. Keep an eye on the temperature of your phone!
Thx

I've got my phone mounted on a spare belt clip i attached to my dashboard and ive noticed the same thing. there comes a time after it's been charging for a while when the light stops "breathing" but the battery is not fully charged. As far as GPS, i figured it wasted battery faster than it could charge, since i also have bt and the display stays on. I've been meaning to try it with an A/C charger in the car instead of the 12VDC. I'll let you know if theres any difference.
Thanks ...
*JFlitt*
I noticed the HEAT, my TILT did the same thing but it charged. The only issue I had with the TILT is when the battery is under 30%, I would have pull out the battery before it decided to charge.
*gmgonzal*
I'm using a mount also (15'' Gooseneck non-winshield). It starts out charging and then stops. I'll try with an AC adapter also just to see what happens.
There maybe something to this GPS & Charging......
**(used to keep post short)
I have the Ac charger in my car and it works wonders. If I run more than three things at once then it will stop charging. All it take is a soft reset. Then all is well. As most said keep an eye on the temp. BTW I am using Energy's 2.0 040509 build with TomTom 7.915(9196)
Thanks Max, I figured the AC Charger would be better, it always charged very quickly at home.
Noticed the same thing on a six hour car trip. I use a gooseneck windshield mount and have Garmin XT and bluetooth to the stereo all the time. After a couple hundred miles it stopped charging and the backlight goes off, making it a pain in the ass for looking at the GPS screen, any suggestions? are u using a ac adapter and than plugging in your home charger? BTW am using an old Motorola car charger from the early RZR days.

No difference if you use a 12v or a 110v charger.
The TP warms up and at a certain temperature shuts off the charging so it will not extra over heat.
I place my TP where the AC can cool it down and since then - it will charge for hours.

That's freaking hilarious. I do the same thing. I notices my Fuze would stop charging when plugged into my car charger if it got too hot, so I simply positioned it where my AC would hit it. Now I don't have that problem anymore.
I tried the AC charger in the car....same thing.
Tried Google Maps also. Basically when I use GPS, charging stops when the device got warm. My device didn't take long to get warm....about 2 minutes.
There's gotta be away around this other than placing it on the air vents. The TILT performed much better with GPS.
my results
finally got a good long run with gps on I-95 and this is what I found:
1. According to tBattery, the 110V charger and the 12VDC charger were the same as far as charge being + 100 with the gps on, so the battery would still be charged if gps is running with the screen almost full brightness, BT on and a data connection.
2. Also according to tBattery, the temperature got to above 46 degrees when I noticed the phone was no longer charging, whereas at home it rarely gets over 33 degrees. The current showed more than 300 negative under these conditions.
SO technically, once the phone stops charging due to temperature, the GPS with screen full on and all the rest tend to drain the battery. Even if the phone is plugged in to the charger. If only it would stop charging the battery but at least take power for the device from the charger, that would have been good.
So I'm going to reposition the device on my dash to where the AC vents can hit it as others have done!
I have two different chargers in my car. The one that will charge my touch pro while running GPS navigation is 5V/1A. The one, that will not charge while navigating has 5V/500mA (which is max. USB-power according to the specs).
Since TP's GPS consumes approximately 500mA (I've read that somewhere on the internet), there will not be enough power to charge. Keep an eye on this.
I went on a 1Hr trip....
AC Adapter-Got hot in about 8 minutes...stop charging, reset needed
Cig Adapter-Got hot in about 8 minutes also...stop charging, reset needed
Aimed the AC on the device...Device charged the whole trip.
Bottom line....Keep it cool!
Lithium Ion batteries in devices all do this as far as I know. I remember back when I used my Dell Axim x51v for navigation is when I found this out for the first time. It would sit in direct sunlight on my dash and quit charging within about 5 minutes of use. One time during the winter I noticed when I didn't turn my heater on that it charged for much longer. Then the light bulb went off in my brain.
Same thing went for my Q9H, Tilt, and now Fuze. A lil air from the vent helps a lot, and keeping it out of the sunlight is an even better option.

Does the dock discharge power when not "closed"?

So I've got my dock and transformer, and its been a couple days.
I found yesterday that the dock didn't really last as long as I thought it would. It seemed halfway through the day the dock stopped charging the transformer, even though both were fully charged the night before. Half the time the dock was used with the transformer, and the other half it sat on the side while I read ebooks or whatever.
When I wasnt using it, I didnt have the flip-part that the transformer sits into pushed down into a "closed" position, if you get my meaning. It was sitting up, as if open, but not docked.
Do you think the battery was discharging while its open?
you're on to something...
The same thing just happened to me. I fully charged my dock last night, then unplugged and left it with the hinge in the open position. I came back today, locked in the tablet and went out to run errands. i'm looking at my battery life percentages drop and the light indicator on the side of the dock is blinking red. unless the dock was discharging while the hinge was left on docking position...
Well Ive been leaving my dock closed today, and it seems to be holding the charge. So I think Im right.

There's also an issue with power consumption. The dock doesn't exactly have an on/off switch, so even when not in use it'll eat up power as it waits to see if you've docked an Eee Pad to it. ASUS expects to address this with a future firmware update for the dock next month. The update will put the unit into an ultra low power state when docked if the tablet is in standby, and power down completely when not attached to the tablet.

I had the transformer powered off the whole day with the dock attached. I came back from work to find the dock battery light blinking orange signalling low battery. I'll have to do more tests, but it seems the dock was discharging even when the tablet was powered down.
This will be very annoying if you can't leave it docked.
Also wish there was a battery meter to show the actual battery %. I will not be happy running the battery downto less than 10% before the light comes on
i had an external hd attached to m dock. after unmounting the drive and removing the tf, the dock was still feeding power to the hd.
on a previous test, my phone would not charge via the dock while the tf was not connected. i didn't see if it continued the charge after removing the tf at that time.

What he said. I doubt it has anything to do with the position of the hinge. The dock has active electronics in it that - for lack of a more detailed description - does something when the TF is connected, and apparently has an active 'standby' mode, which unfortunately consumes some power from it's battery.
just FYI
Dock update is in testing to a few users on here. Should resolve disconnect issues, and add battery gauge for the dock as well.
Hopefully this addresses the power discharging issue as well. Haven't heard anyone comment on it yet however.

Read this thread before buying the dock

This is re-posted from the general forum. It probably should be moved here to warn potential dock purchasers about this ongoing problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112835
Basically, the problem is that the dock's (all of them?) batteries deplete at around 5% per hour when attached to the tablet when in standby. The batteries even seem to deplete when docked to the tablet when the tablet is completely turned off. WiFi on or off doesn't seem to effect the drain very much. Just a bit of cautionary advice for potential dock owners.
Another thread on the topic:
http://www.transformerforums.com/fo...eral-discussions/599-tf-dock-battery-log.html
Definitely not a deal breaker though. A lot of people are just disconnecting their docks after each use and the battery in the dock doesn't drain. Personally I just leave it connected all the time because I typically lose about 2-3% an hour which isn't a big deal to me. Hopefully this will be fixed in a future software update.
Some people have reported getting shorter run time with the doc. To me, that's a deal killer. Anyway, hopefully people will hold off buying the dock and Asus will be forced to address the issue.

I don't know about that, my dock has been connected on my Transformer for about 8 hours and it has been sitting there for most of the day 77%. I have use it during the day though. But I don't think 23% after 8 hours is a deal breaker AT ALL. Even less after I know that I have been using it during the day for short periods of time.
Your results are far better than mine. Do you have the battery widget installed that shows the dock and tablet charge separately? The stock battery app behaves strangely sometimes. Sometimes it will show a charge of 77% and then you will close it and open it back up in an hour and find you have lost 15%. Since you are one of the only ones whose dock seems to be working correctly, could you do a test for us?
1. Download the battery widget listed in the thread in the General forum.
2. Charge to 100%
3. Remove from charger the next day and leave the dock connected to the tab. Leave the tab in "sleep" mode
4. check the DOCK battery level after 8 hours
Thanks!

I have the battery widget that it's available in the development section and so far it has been working great for me. I will do this and post back the results tomorrow.
If yours is losing <3% per hour while in standby, that isn't too bad. Here is another facet of the problem:
If you turn off the tablet (off... not suspend, tablet only). it loses very little charge when left for long periods of time. If you charge and detach the dock, the dock behaves the same way. If, however, you have the tablet connected to the dock and leave it turned off, you will leak about 1-2% per hour.
Check out the other thread if you get a chance.
Overnight the dock dropped to 77% with the tablet in sleep mode and the tablet was at 99%.
I assumed this was the effect of waste from a trickle charge. Either way I definitely cant say the batter life is shorter with the dock. Its longer, how much I dont know but the girlfriend and i used it solid for a few hours flying with games and such and it didnt even make a dent in the batteries.
didn't happen to me though.. it takes more than 24 hours for a fully my charged dock to drop its battery to 98%...
My dock sat in the closet charged for 5 days because my tf didn't get here till after. When I plugged it in to the tf with the battery widget it had about 60%. I charged it from my friends charger, he didn't get a keyboard. I did the firmware update though. I personally like it.
The drain only occurs when the dock is connected to the tablet.

Car charger performance

Does anyone have any ideas on how to increase car charger performance?
When I am using Google Maps Navigation with the GPS running and full 3G signal, the phone barely charges at all. Depending on screen brightness it can actually drain the battery(slower than when not connected to a charger).
Can the charger be modified to increase its output?
You have to buy a charger, which has more than 1 ampere
I have the Brodit Active Holder w/ Cig charger, I'll have to check the specs on it later. Do you think it could be modified in some way?
I bought the SE car charger (http://bit.ly/k7udKw), the price was a bit steep (20 euros or so) but it works like a charm. I use Sygic Aura navigation and the battery meter still increases over time. Not fast, but it doesn't stay put or decrease either, so I'm all in all happy with it.
Check out this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1005618
And make sure you set your phone dock near the air conditional if you open GPS map, it'll get hot and your battery won't last long while it gets hotter even you charge it.
I bought my charger on Internet auction for about 2 Euros (some crappy China stuff) It works like a charm. And yes, battery gets very hot when I use navigation so I mount my phone holder near AC vents.
There must be a reason for the severe heat in the x10.
even in ultra low temperatures it overheats a lot.
So i finally remembered to check my car charger and it is a 1amp charger. I've just upgraded my rom to the one listed in my sig and the phone is much better on battery, so hopefully it charges better in the car now.
Had my phone docked in the car for 20minutes and it charged from 82% to 95% with the GPS on and Google Maps following my route. Pretty happy with that sort of performance.
Mines charge normally i use orginal se charger because in my car i got an ac plug
Sent From My X10!
im using this one
http://www.amazon.com/AT-BlackBerry..._1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1310226373&sr=1-1
it charge fast and it can charge another USB device like an iphone or my MW600 bluetooth... it can even charge my x10 to 100% while GPS navigation is on. my previous car charge doesnt do that, it can only hold my battery % without letting it drop if GPS navigation is on. so if my battery is 30% i'll get 30% after i disconnect and stop using the GPS navigation...
http://cgi.ebay.com/Holder-Mount-Ca...878745?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item4cf818a359
I've bought this one a while ago for 7 bucks (including shipping). Had just a few chances to use it, but all times it was really sunny and hot outside and the phone just stops charging because it becomes extremely hot. I would stick the mount somewhere near the gear stick, but it won't stay on any other surface than glass
It was a quite funny adventure when we were travelling to a big city with intense traffic and really complicated streets. So I am using the GPS to find the hotel we booked, it's really hot, I just keep going - didn't know that the phone stops charging when it's hot - so we finally arrive at our destination, I start to reach the phone with my hand and it just turns off, because the battery is dead. Was quite scary at the moment
Yeah, did some driving around this weekend using Google Maps Navigation. Had my X10 plugged into the charger that came with my Jabra Cruiser speakerphone. Despite the charging light being on the whole time, by the time I arrived at my destination my phone had >5% battery. I checked the charger, and it's only 500mA.
Ordered this charger from Monoprice.com (was ordering some cables anyway). The price was good, and specs say it outputs 1A. Will let you know how it works out when I get it.
Hi,
I'm having an annoying issue with my car charger. I'm actually using the SE car charger, the 1200mA one.
The problem is that sometime, the charger will charge very well, meaning I can listen to music, have the navigation active, and twitter, G+ updating as usual, the battery is charging around 1% per minute, but on other time, the battery will slowly drain, same setup.
I've noticed something yesterday btw, the phone was in a battery draining phase, then it appears that the phone lost his network connection, then it came back, and the phone started to charge well.
Is that an issue related to the car charger or could it be a "bug" in the phone software ?

The phone limits the charging current at a max of about 700mA.
Sometimes the radio eats thru the battery quite heavily in low signal area's.
The charging current just plainly cannot keep up with the total usage.

You can try that.
In some cases it works in other cases it does not.
I have had my X10 for nearly 2 years now and i have tried about 5 different car chargers until finally settling on a SE original.
I use my x10 with google nav all day long as i am a service engineer and i have found the only way to get it to work for a full day is to mount it directly infront of one of the air vents blowing cold air over it while plugged in to the charger. Without this the phone will get too hot and start discharging especially on a warm day.
Using 2g and low brightness can help as well.

LOL. The X10 was released in late March 2010. So unless you had an early development model, you've had your X10 for 16 months at most.

Yeah, I learned how crazy heat will build up in this phone if using it for nav a few weeks back, when in about 75 minutes of driving I drained my battery fully and the phone was registering at 54°C from sitting on my sun-beaten dash while navigating.
I thinking I'm going to try to build some sort of shade over my car holder to keep the X10 out of the sun, and maybe help channel some of the AC more directly onto it.

Just got the Anker 1900mAH batteries, I hope its better than GTMax's junk batteries..

http://www.amazon.com/Anker-x1900mA...J5Q4/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1320242216&sr=8-6
I just got these from Amazon and the charger that it came with is JUNK!
It has sliding pins and no instructions on how to charge the batteries.
I used the samsung battery charger to charge it, when the charger saids its charged, I put in the 1st battery and saw that it was only 89% on the phone. I hope this means that the samsung battery charger will only charge up to 1650mAh and there is extra juice on these Ankers.
I will continue to test it out and will update.
I bought these too. To use the charger, slide the pins to the right so that they line up with the copper contacts labeled + and -. I think when you have the contacts on the top right, it is the right most, and then second from the left. Slide the bottom of the charter down and stick the battery in with the pine touching those 2 contacts.
Now, that being said, the light indicated on my charger stopped working after 2 days, so I just leave them in overnight. Also, you can't charge them in the att phone or you get a boot loop. But the batteries themselves seem to last.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
How is these batteries working out for you?
It seems WAY too complicated to use the charger which came with it. Does it matter if the left pin is connected to + or - as I can easily flip the battery around.
I am now charging it with the charger which I got with the GTMax batteries, its slow (Output 4.2V 350mA), but it seems to be charging it to 100% instead of the battery charger from Samsung. (Output: 4.2V 400mA 600mA) (89% for some reason, I have not tried again)
I am getting decent battery life out of it as of now, but have not try it enough for a good review. The product does say that the battery will perform better after 4 charges. Since I have 2 of these, they are lasting around 30 hours each,. its taking me time to cycle through it. Is it reallt 1900mA which should last around 15% better than the OEMs.
I will post my findings when I have tested this enough.
I dont know the rest of you, but I like not charging with the phone charger at all. Its takes seconds to pop in a new battery and I am good for another 20-30hours depeding of the battery. No time off for my phone Also, I dont want to change the backing for extending battery which diminished the thin aspects of this phone. (I just carry a spare and it will for SURE last at least 24 with heavy use; greater than 6 hours of screen time if not more)

It does matter. The right hand pin (when you are looking at the front of the charger) is +.
When you hold the Anker battery face forwards and upright, you can see the +- markings on the battery. This is the direction to use in the charger. I have not yet bought (or seen) the adapter from Seidio which is supposed to their charger work for this sized battery.
I was originally getting 12 hours until 0% battery left. After I shut down all the background syncs, wirless, gps, bluetooth..etc, and installed juiceDefender, I was able to get to about 20 hours with the OEMs. That means, 20hrs with minimal use and it would be dead/unusable at that point.
Then I follow the rooting and de-bloating the i777 and it gets my phone up to 30 hours until dead with normal use. This is around 3 hours of screen time. It would be great if I can ge to about 40 hours..
After a week of use, these batteries seems to last. I think they are as good as the OEMs or maybe 5-10% better. I have also notice that the weight on these ankers are a bit heavier too. Not sure if that means it contains more juice or not.
I have JUNKed the charger that came with it, as its just not user friendly. I been using the GTMax wall charger and its been fine. It take like 6-8 hours to completely charge. (I have not tried again with the Samsung wall charger as the 1st time only charges it up to 89%)
If you are like me, who don't like to chain the phone to the wall and prefer to swap out batteries, then these are good. I hope it there are a lot of cycles life with them.
I travel a lot and with every swap, I get abother 30 hours of moderate use (3 hours of screen time). Under heavy use, I get about 20 hours (4+ hours on wifi)
