Nabi has finally joined 2012 and updated the Nabi 2 to JB 4.1. Will this now make it possible to root and put an aftermarket ROM on it?

The hard part is finding a Dev that has any interest in working with this device. My kids have one and I'm glad to see it get updated, but I'd be shocked to see a custom ROM. I'm just hoping it's easily rootable after the update.

There are two:
mehtuus and aicjofs
They worked on the Nabi when it was still 4.0 and were able to get GApps on it.
However i can not post in that section because i havent had 10 posts yet.

despite how easy it is to just root my tab 10.1 and just slap the 4.0.4 update on there, i've been holding out for the OTA.
the problem is, it seems like everyone already has the GT-P7510 OTA, but i'm still getting nothing when trying to get a software update
might there be something wrong with my tablet (partially why i'm hesitant to attempt root and flash)? or will i just be the last guy to get the update in the world?

Why wait, just root and get going..........the Samsung stock build still isn't as good as the custom ROMS.

I was going to answer..but then saw this in development. Post in the right sections.
All:
I have my note II rooted, and its running 4.1.2
I received the OTA today, and I chose not to download it. Just curious on what folks are doing ?
I dont run any custom rom on my Note II, I just use it for rooting purposes....
if I do want to upgrade to 4.3 what is the suggested path of action ?
I thought I could use wugfresh I guess not though ?
Thanks

Once you upgrade to 4.3 OTA, your bootloader is locked and root is gone, along with the generally unwelcome addition of Samsung's KNOX technology. No bootloader exploit currently exists. If you upgrade by flashing one of the ROM's here on XDA or the non-OTA update to 4.3 (check the Android Development forum), you get the latest software and keep an unlocked bootloader & root.

Wife gave me my Christmas present yesterday...(a Note 2 she bought used...lovely phone). It started an update when I fired it up, (has been so long since I rooted my Bionic, I completely forgot about OTA's) It now has 4.3, and the only sort of tethering I can mange with it is usb pdanet, which merely qualifies as 'better than nothing', as it often drops out. Might have to put the damn thing in a drawer and fire up the Bionic until the tech gods here work it out. Am downloading a zip from another thread mentioned by Tfly12 that purports to get around the entitlement check...will see

Can't flash that zip though can ya? Trust me. Loosing tethering is the biggest thing that ticks me off about 4.3.
Hate having to have an nonroot phone for work.

not sure yet, my last experience with this was the Bionic....and after I got it doing what I wanted it to do.....never bothered with it again. Now I'm trying to learn everything Samsung, (precious little of Motorola knowledge seems to apply here....I always thought Odin was a Viking god...) so I don't end up in one of those frantic "HELPME! MY PHONEWON'TEVENTURNONANYMOREIHATEYUPEOPLE" posts....

Seems like I should wait then... It tried to download and install last night but it failed, so it just rebooted and i am good... probably because i have recovery on... not sure....
I prefer to honestly just go back to stock, and then maybe goto 4.3 once there is a good root out there....

I made the same move after my speaker started going on my BIONIC, fortunately for me I made the move to the N2 a few months ago. If you are lucky and someone is able to get the bootloader unlocked on 4.3, you should find this device much easier to work with then using Safestrap and all that other jazz. Odin is sort of like using HOB except I have only had to use it twice and not constantly. Once to unlock the bootloader initially and just recently to update the modem and wifi parameters when I made the move to 4.3
Hopefully someone can help you get set up to use the N2 the way you need it.

a little clarification please......
you want the LAST 4.3? or do you want his LAST Uber, which is 4.4?
don't have his last 4.3, but I do have his last build, which is 4.4
what are you flashing if I may ask?

Sorry but I got no answer. reason I posted again.Thing is I can not post there since I have less than 10 posts, keeps sending me back to q&a.
I've been checking the thread uber 4.0 but all the links appear to be outdated sadly .
I flashed cardon 4.3 , and read it works beautifully with uber 4.3 kernel.
4.4 will not work as stated bay Jamie so , hope I can find it somewhere. My phone is ok on 4.3, so I would not upgrade to 4.4 if I can help it. thanks for the answer

well, at least your reading.
sorry I don't have that version. Carbon rom was one that many liked. could never get it to run with my Note. I tried al sorts of variations, but just would not work. some times it goes that way. all roms are designed to work with the kernel provided. many folks think they need to flash everything and don't wait for anything to settle in. you should really give a chance to settle in for a couple days. even Jamie would recommend that.
you wouldn't change your transmission just because you missed 2nd gear once would you.
good luck in your quest. the Note is an aged device now, which explains many of the links being expired. there are some really good roms out there. many are the older ones and the developers have moved on.
I've recently switched the G3 but using it on straight talk so root actually helped me get rid of the "unknown sim" icon. It looks like theres no root for Lollipop yet so im wondering if it would be worth upgrading to lollipop now or waiting for OTA and hoping root is figured out by then

The OTA that's out is definitely not official. And yes, no root. Not sure if there ever WILL be a root for the official OTA once it comes out since it has to be done by an exploit, and LP has made exploits even harder to find.
I myself am staying on KK. I must have root for Titanium Backup. That's basically all I have root for and without it, I cannot restore my app settings, so until a root exploit is found for the official OTA (once it comes out), then I'll go to Lollipop possibly. But even with the current unofficial OTA, there are various issues with LP.
Might want to wait until 5.1 (if we ever get it for the G3) comes out as 5.0.1 still have a major memory leak in it.

Yup. Just saw that. That's good, but maybe not that good. How much you want to bet that exploit gets patched before the official OTA comes out?
Really wish they would have waited for the official OTA to come out before releasing the exploit.

I would wait... All I can say is that there will be a stock/rooted LP ROM very soon.
Xposed won't work with our phones on 5.0. I found that out the hard way. Saw the post in the developer's section that they're still trying to figure it out. Back to KK for me as there's functions of xposed that I need to have. A whole lot of tinkering today and I wound up right back where I was lol
I rooted my I605 three years ago (through CASUAL, if memory serves, and that's the last time I've played with rooting and related topics) and I'd like to upgrade to the highest OS possible (that's 4.4.2, right?) but still keep root. I have TWRP installed. My Note II is nagging me to upgrade with an OTA (not sure what it is specifically) but I keep deferring it. What steps do I need to take to upgrade to 4.4.2 and keep root (stock ROM), and is that even possible? If someone can point me in the right direction thread-wise that would be greatly appreciated (there's a lot of info on this site but I'm having a hard time trying to find one specific to my situation.)

The best option to use is Beanstown rom for the 4.4.2, once you take the OTA to upgrade to 4.4.2 you can still root but you will not have an unlocked bootloader. Beanstown has pulled files/firmware and radio to have the most recent upgrades but still leaves the 4.1.2 bootloader on your device to be fully unlocked.

Yea i thought he did the 4.4.2 update but it was the other guy , they both did a lot of good work! Glad I was able to help
