missing storage space - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I just flashed jellybeans 4.3 and I have a lot of missing storage space. I have looked everywhere with a root explore but can't find it. Any ideas?

I'm no pro, but did you do a complete wipe prior to jellybeans install? If not, I would first go into recovery see what it reports, then do complete internal storage wipe, data wipe, system wipe, both caches, everything, and reload. Then see where you stand. what's odd to me is that the system knows you have 16 gb storage but not telling you where it's going, so <imho> it's hidden to JB somehow. regardless, I think if you wipe it completely you'll be fine.

[Q] Cleaning Internal SD Card

Hi
Guess the question is relevant to all devices Anroaid.
I searched and read in many places but I still did not fully understand how is the internal sd card is devided, what each part contains and how to "clean up" things that are not relevant to more
My Galaxy S1 device internal card size is 8G.
Checking system -> storage indicates it is devided to two: 1.48 Internal storage and a 5.64 USB storage.
The first question is where is a almost 1G to complete to the total of 8G?
I understand that the internal storage contains the operating system and applications installations.
however,I can see the the usb storage also contains folders of past and current installed applications, of course in addition to music, pictures etc.
Now I want to install a new ROM and clean everything that is not nessacary.
I understand that when installing a new rom the internal storage actually completely cleared and re-installed. Is it true?
What about usb storage? Whether and how to re-format it? Is it necessary at all to do that?
Thanks

Installing a new ROM won't clear all the internal storage. You have to do it manually. In stock, it is recommended to do a factory reset after the first boot. While in custom ROM you have to wipe data, wipe cache and wipe dalvic cache before the installation.
It is not necessary to clear the data in USB storage.

Lately the device has strange behavior every once in a while - and I would like to clean it as much as possible
I am using custom rom, hopefully wiping everything will do the job.
Yet, I do want to clean the internal storage as well.
What can be done regarding that? can I format it?
If yes - how, and how to recreate the standard folders tree?
If not - what can be done?

wiping data will clear your system memory, ie app data
If you want to go deep, there are options available in CWM recovery under Mounts and storage menu to format /system, /Data, /Cache, /sdcard and even External sdcard,

This is the thing...
I am trying to understand what the purpose of each option - and eventually what are the steps the order, to achieve the cleanest possible device with the rom I want to flash
I actually just noticed that in the previous post I wrote Internal storage rather than USB storage. Anyway..I need please some more accurate information.
Is that possible to format only the USB storage?
Or is there a way to safely remove / clean / wipe old stuff, like applications' folders that are not in used anymore, and other things I am not aware off?

Formatting Internal Storage in CWM

So my internal storage is starting to get pretty full and I don't really need to save any of my app data, and I've already backed up all my pictures to my PC. Im going to install cyanogen mod and the gapps, but then I want everything else to be deleted too like its a brand new phone. I've y always been curious of how I can format my internal storage without getting rid of CWM in the process? So how should I go about this?
I feel like this is a noob question but oh well.
CWM -> Mounts and Storage -> Wipe internal sdcard

[Q] Low storage for apps to Beanstalk 4.4.2 KITKAT(for p880)

I have tried the Rom Beanstalk 4.4.2 KITKAT the LG Optimus 4x HD from here -->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2585844 . Stable with good use of the phone and battery and quick. After 10 days , some applications of the Google Play Store as other outside , could not do the installation by displaying the message Error - There is not enough storage space .
By checking the internal storage of the phone and the external memory microsd realized that I have enough free space - > internal storage : 9,11 gb of 12.26gb card and external sd: 29,69 gb of 31,24 gb.
I searched on Google and found a related link --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1665742 so that I can find a solution but nothing happened .
I tried factory data reset the phone and again and flashing the Rom Beanstalk 4.4.2 KITKAT but still not corrected the problem . After some time I again presented .
What could be wrong do you know ;
To you presented this problem ...!
If so did you find a solution ... ;
I recommend backing up your internal storage to a PC and then formatting your storage in recovery and putting everything back on. This should clear this up. Often times, CM based stuff will be installed in /data/media/0 and just doubles up with that and the stuff you already have one /data/media and fills up available app space.

I was not talking about doing a factory reset. I suggested to wipe your internal storage. This is what your phone sees as /sdcard. You must transfer your stuff from the phone to PC if you wish to keep the files as wiping your internal storage will delete whatever is on /sdcard.

Thank you, I will try it but in recovery mode there are two choices, 1 wipe data/factory reset and 2 wipe cache partition. Which one? And I must take out the external sd card before do the wipe my internal storage? There is a problem?

Sounds like you must be using some form of CWM recovery. If that is so, then you will find the option under Mounts and Storage - Format /sdcard.
You do not need to take out the external, and wouldn't hurt to have a backup of your rom to restore from there, if necessary. Just remember that if you don't back up your internal storage and you format /sdcard - everything will be gone. This means media, pictures, app data that is saved there, etc.

Wiped data before flashing ROM but it's still showing up

I'm pretty new to flashing ROMs. My phone is rooted using all in one toolkit, s-off with sunshine. TWRP is my recovery.
I made a backup of my rooted stock ROM , then used TWRP manager to flash cm11. I checked to wipe all the data and dalvik before flashing. Cm installed with no issues.
Once I finished setting it up, I installed es file explorer again and noticed that all my files from my internal storage are still accessible. Its just listed under 0. Everything is still in tact tho.
Did I do something wrong? I don't understand why I still have all these files.

You have to have internal storage checked for it to be wiped
^^^This. The data that was wiped was system data, not your personal data.
Thanks for responding so quick,
I checked all of the options under install on twrp manager. Looking back, it says wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik. There wasn't an option for wipe internal storage.
Is there anything I can do to fix this now? Or would I just have to go into twrp and reflash cm from recovery, making sure to check wipe internal storage?
Also, if I leave it as is, is it going to cause any problems?

First off, ditch TWRP Manager, its a needless middle man (you're talking about the TWRP Manager app, right?).
If you boot into TWRP and select Wipe, you will see under "Advanced Wipe" there are a slew of wipe options (but be careful what you pick, as there are options to wipe things like the removable SD).
HOWEVER, you don't need to wipe the internal storage to flash a ROM. Yes, you need to wipe user data (/data) in most cases, and also cache and Dalvik. But wiping internal storage (virtual SD, also called sdcard on ES File Explorer, or sometimes /0) is not needed. For most practical purposes this partition is treated like a removable SD card. In fact, by default, backups like your TWRP nandroid and Titanium Backups are stored here. So if you wipe, you will lose those (unless you move/copy them to the removable SD or somewhere else like your computer).
Some folks like to wipe internal storage when they flash a ROM, just for general cleanup purposes. But its a personal choice, and not really necessary IMO. And as mentioned doing so will wipe your backups unless you save them somewhere else that isn't going to be wiped.
Thank you so much for clearing that up.
Yes, I was talking about twrp manager. You're right, after I checked the options, all it did was reset and boot up twrp. Pretty useless...
So since I still have all my game data stored, can I just copy it over somewhere to retain where I was at? I'm talking about android/obb data.
How would I go about integrated all my previous data into this current software? Let me know it my question made sense or not

I think some folks like to use it to install TWRP. But installing with fastboot is easy, and also important to know how to do if you have issues someday and need to re-install TWRP from a non-booted condition.
So yeah I agree that TWRP Manager is pretty useless.

Use the app Titanium Backup to migrate app data when flashing ROMs (also handy to migrate app data to a new phone). And paying the few dollars for the Pro Key and getting the batch backup/restore functions is well worth it if you are flashing ROMs.
Do not use Titanium to migrate any system data to a new ROM, as this will likely cause problems. Just apps and app data. I've had success migrating SMS with Titanium as well. But other things like Settings and Homescreen setup, I usually just do again manually after flashing a new ROM.
As mentioned in my post above, the default save location for Titanium Backup data is the internal storage. So do not wipe internal storage when flashing a ROM, or you will lose your backup data.
Just copying the game files will most likely not work to migrate your game save data.
Thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it.
I used titanium backup and extracted my apps and data from my nandroid backup. Worked pretty well.
The only thing I'm having trouble with now is getting my info like contacts and stuff to sync. It says it's synced, but I'm not seeing it.
I wanted to install HTC backup again and try and restore that info. Would that work?

I can't say, as I don't use HTC Backup.
I prefer to just have my contacts on my Google (Gmail) account. This is the default on the phone, so unless you changed it, your contacts should all be on the cloud on Gmail (you can login to Gmail on a computer and confirm your contacts are there). Then will automatically restore to the phone when you first setup and enter your Google login and password.
If you've confirmed your contacts are on Gmail, and still not synching, go to Settings>Accounts & sync>Google, go to where Contacts is checked, uncheck it, and then check it again. Sometimes the sync will just get "stuck" and this will clear it up.
One M8 stuck on GPE 5.0.1 ROM boot animation
I foolishly reset factory data using TWRP under Wipe, and when I try to reinstall the GPE 5.0.1 ROM I couldn't find it. Then I try to restore my backed up Sense ROM and I couldn't find it under Restore. Maybe I deleted it and I forgot about it. Help me? I don't have MicroSD to store the GPE ROM which I thought would solve my problem because I thought I may have deleted the GPE ROM .zip file when I reset factory data. Now I am stuck on GPE ROM bootanimation the moving around dots. I need help please someone?

If you did the "default" TWRP factory reset (data, Dalvik, cache) this is not foolish, and is the correct wipe for moving to a new ROM.
You either bypassed the default, and went to "Advanced" and wiped the internal storage; or there is also the occasional instance where internal storage is corrupted by no fault of your own (more common with oldr TWRP versions?).
adb push a ROM to the internal storage (or adb sideload flash) while in recovery.
okay I kind of fixed my One M8. But one problem remains, I can't use my internal storage. My Camera App can't use the internal storage so does all the other apps such as Whatsapp or downloads from Chrome. It's as if my internal storage is not there or somehow malfunctioned or the ROM doesnt support the use of internal storage. But before I got into this problem (I forgot how I got it in the first place as it happened months ago only now I was able to fix my One M8), it worked perfectly fine, the Storage had no problem. But I had problems with Wifi, I thought maybe reflashing the ROM was a good idea to fix this but it didn't instead I can't access my internal storage by File Manager or by PC. If you have any solution please help me. Thanks in advanced.

Broken WiFi is usually a symptom of wrong (outdated) firmware for the current ROM.
Internal storage may be corrupted. Try to connect to a computer and format it, or you can try RUU.
Or try to re-flash custom recovery, or update or try a different one (if TWRP, try CWM/Philz or vice versa). Some folks fixed similar internal storage issues by flashing recovery.
I need help again.. I decided to format all my data but I kept my backup in the internal storage.. But after rebooting the phone it works but then I can't download apps from the play store or from chrome.. also I can't transfer files from my pc to my one m8.. But I can take photos (which I think uses internal storage).. Also my guest mode is not working.. Ithought something must be wrong with the internal storage so i wiped it out.. When i rebooted everything is black but when I long press the power button 'power off' shows up.. Something must be wrong.. Oh when connecting to my pc it shows CD Drive instead of HTC_OneM8 like it usually would.. Pls reply even when there's no hope to fix this phone at all..

About wiping

I generally just wipe the data, cache and dalvik then flash the ROM. I have seen in a few threads to also wipe internal and SD. My question is what is getting wiped if I did do internal and SD. I've never done this before and wanted to ask before I did something I might regret later lol. Thanks.

Anything you keep on your internal SD card...like pictures/music/documents. I would recommend not doing this at all. If you keep a ROM or other flashable zips in these locations and wipe them before you flash them, they'll disappear. It is kind of like formatting.

wiping internal clears out everything. meaning you wont be able to reboot into the OS from recovery unless you have a rom on your external SDS to flash before rebooting. I would recommend it unless you know what you are doing and want to start fresh.

Wiping internal is wiping the internal sd card . . . so as the first person said, you'd lose all the pictures/movies/etc. one may have in their sd card...

i wipe internal storage on every clean flash. if you get in the habit of using auto backup apps like g+ for pics, and move anything useful from downloads to the sd card as you get it, its really no haste to wipe it. i also have titanium do full backups every night while im sleeping, for system and app data.
im sure some people wil say they havent wiped it in 10 years and never have an issue. i can tell you, i dont have a fraction of the random issues most people have that arent known bugs.

i have never tried it, but im pretty sure thats not accurate.
wiping internal storage should be nothing more than an advanced data wipe. instead of only deleting user data, you are deleting system data too. but you arent wiping any system files, so the system data should rebuild on boot.

you probably are correct. I only replied because I recent had an experience with it. I passed my G2 on to a friend. I offered to load up what ever ROM he wanted and he chose CM12. I got it all loaded up and working fine. Then I decided to go back into recovery to erase any data I had on the device. I selected Internal Storage in TWRP, rebooted and it wouldn't go beyond the lg screen.
If I am correct, you would never notice it since you wipe then flash.

weird, maybe you are right. ill try it next time i clean flash and see what happens.
none of the rom code should be stored there, so it should rebuild.
if you accidentally wiped system, it defiantly wouldnt boot then.
I NEVER wipe Internal or External sd. I wipe cache, data & dalvik from time to time. I'll wipe system as well if I'm flashing a new rom. I tend to keep all of my media and app backups on my External sd just in case something ever happens. For example, if you have to revert back to stock, your Internal sd is completely wiped.
