(JB) AOKP problems? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I recently switchef back to tasks AOKP ROM after trying out shostock. I like AOKP the best because of the layout options beep encountering problems with the ROM. I know its no longer in development so I assume its stable and its just user error. I also don't know where else to ask these questions so I hope I am in the right place
First off, I can't access the settings (not AOKP settings) in the menu. It crashes every time. EVEN on a fresh install with nothing but the gaps.
Second, the ROM starts to slow down after only a little bit of use. I want to say this is bad memory managment but clearing the task manager doesn't help. The only thing that gets it up to speed is using the kernel tweaks app and setting the gov. to performance mode which really kills the battery.
Third, which type of kernel would I use to put on this ROM? With or without mic swap? Plus what is the difference between AOKP and AOSP?
Sorry for the nooby questions guys but I'm rusty on this stuff. Don't bash on me too hard

Probably best place to ask would be the thread already created for it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2303484 I've ran this rom myself and can say I didn't experience any of these issues, a lot of the time it's user error or not doing a complete and total wipe before installing. Or a bad flash.

As far as I know, AJK v4.9 AOSP and STI v2.40EX14 would be the choices for a custom kernel. Use the AOSP version, not the swap or no swap versions.
AOSP = Android Open Source Project
AOKP = Android Open Kang Project
AOSP is a generic term for Google's code. AOKP and all the other rom names such as cyanogenmod, miui, carbon, etc. are names given by the developers.
Oh, and nobody around here bashes any more. All the high strung guys evidently have moved on to newer phones. Or they've mellowed with time, lol.

I installed ajk kernal and it gave me a huge speed boost. But I still get a ui crash when I go into settings=>kernel settings. Any ideas?

Yes, don't use the kernel settings in the settings menu. It was meant for the custom kernel that originally came with that rom.
Instead, use STweaks to make any changes you desire; it was installed when you flashed AJK.

Ah, TY dude. I tryed this kernal a long time ago when it was still in its early dev stages and there were some bugs. I remember STweaks but you had to install it via the play store. I kept searching for "st tweaks" not STweaks so it wasn't showing up. I was wondering what happened! haha

[Q][POLL]CyanogenMod or ParanoidAndroid

Hi,
I have hard times to decide which ROM should I run. Both are great and amazing. So I need some help from both CM and Paranoid users.
What I look forward are: A better battery life and fast-stable operating.
Thanks in advance!
You're posting to wrong section.
But I prefer CyanogenMod

Paranoid Android has more UI choices from normal to hybrid. Really good and stable ROM. Cyanogen will are the main source. You have any problems its them that fix it not Paranoid. I'm on Cyanogen now. Was on Paranoid and enjoyed it. I'd rather stability than anything else.
Please read the rules about posting in the correct sections.

This one I did not closed because the OP is asking about a comparison between two specific roms not asking a general "which rom is best". I feel this thread is ok and tolerable. lol
only thing i dont like about cyanogen is that you cant have a brightness slider, i use paranoid but a recommendation i could make is install the latest siyah kernel then run one as a first rom and the other as second rom and give them both a try i do it for omega stock touchwiz and pa very useful :3

How do you mean by "run as first rom and the other as second"?
He means dual boot, see siyah kernel thread. But quite odd to dual boot with two non Sammy (or 2 Sammy) roms
More logical to use paranoid as it's cm based with more features.
Newb question here:
But, what's the difference between CM10 and Paranoid Android?
Since Paranoid Android is built on CM10 - wont it just have a few extra features? (Hybrid mode looks cool imo.)

Don't you think hybrid is a big difference ? Just flash and compare, no one will be able to choose for you. Ten minutes work, restore is easy with nandroid, you could even try without data wipe as it's same base. But CM10 bugs ==> Paranoid.
I look at the voting poll and it's pretty close. Right now I'm running CM10. I must to say that the battery life rocks. The only thing that I don't like that much is the Contacts feature, a lot of stuffs are missing. Ow and also I can't find Power Saving mode in Settings?

The latest Syiah Kernel allows you to dual boot your phone. So you can have two different roms installed.
I use CM10 because it has faster/more frequent updates. (Usually every night hence "nightly") (could be a good or bad thing though... I feel like I have to flash something on my phone every day. Flashing is sooo addicting lol.)
PA is based on CM10 and will have to wait for CM10 to release its update before it too updates. The PA team is also quick to update when it happens though.
But PA has added features to CM10 that some people may or may not like. Hybrid mode and enabling/disabling hard/soft keys are one of top features that comes to mind.
Dude, first of all.. you CAN'T let other people decide on what you "want"
You just have to try it for yourself..

I'm trying out right now the CM10. Very awesome! I will give a try to PA also.
Just wanted to know which was more stable ..
This is a little off the Paranoid and CM10 but what I tried was this...
Downloaded Omega v29 & Omega v2.0 and dropped into SD Card,
Formatted my Internal Memory, (like completely formatted),
Flashed Omega v29, once done, set it up, and there is S Teaks in the App Drawer, open it up and go across to Dualboot and click the ''Reboot into 2ndROM Utils''
Down the bottom there is dual-boot options, go into that, Format 2md Rom system, Wipe 2nd Rom data/cache and wipe dalvik-cache, and fix permissions, then install zip to from External SD (where you put the omega v2.0 file, and flash that. And the rest is as is comes.
It will reboot and you have a choice to click the home button to go to your 2nd rom or click anything else to go to 1st Rom.
Worth it, due to both those Omegas are different UI, I got Omega v29 for Gaming and 2.0 for sexy show off looks.
i used PA before im on CM10.1 based rom,
PA - i like the phablet mode etc but it has no statusbar transparency
CM - i love the speed, themes and the softbutton below its like a built in. battery and performance are great.
i dont know which is better since i used the same kernel with that 2 cusrom marmite kernel

[Q] Change screen colors on CM 10.2

Hey, first of all thanks alot for all the development and crazy amount of information going on in here
I have searched but unfortunately I couldn't find a solution to my problem so I'm asking here. I recently installed official Cyanogenmod 10.2 stable release on my i9300 international S3 (since CM11 gave me some bugs) and it's pretty great so far, but I've been searching a way to change the color settings of the screen. On CM there are some built in ones but I don't really like those. On the 4.3 Stock Samsung ROM there was "Professional Photo" or something like that that I did like. Does anyone know what I can do? If I understood correctly kernels can do that sort of stuff but I didn't find a kernel to suit my needs.
Thanks in advance

Yes you understood it correctly If your Planning to run a ROM based on CM Screen modes like Dynamic, Professional Photo etc Are available only through custom Kernel.
In Sammy as v all know you can change it under settings but for CM unfortunately you have to stick to Kernel Settings to do that.
Almost All popular Kernels Have that option under Screen>MDNIE mode
All you have to do is select the right kernel
Unfortunatly You asked a Question in this Thread and Also Gave an answer for the same.
Just remeber that for CM ul have to stick to some Externel Kernel as these options wont be available with stock CM 10.2 Kernel as well
Just as a recommendation give GoogyMax , Boeffla, Agni a try as these gave me really good results(Special Thx to Dev's of the same )

Thanks for the reply
I've looked into GoogyMax and Boeffla but as far as I could tell they don't support color changing. If I do install them what can I do to change the colors?
And I have yet to install a kernel, does it come in a zip file that I can install in CWM?

Strange To hear that. Well ive never used Stock CM so cant Comment on that GPS issue.
As Far As Now the AOSP or AOKP Roms ive used have never Had this GPS issue. You Can Try Anyone From Below Thread (CM 10.2/1)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/orig-development/10-04-index-roms-t2218825
For me i would have chosen between PACMAN PARANOID n SLIMBEAN . All are great for Daily use
Also Check out This ROM. MY personal favourite Amongst All. Bug Free and Stable , Archidroid but its KK

Yes CM is definately Smoother than TouchWIz( Thx to Free RAM ). But Try out the ArchiDroid Stock Sammy ROM. You Might Like it for its smoothness
Rom recommendations are not allowed on xda. You have to try out and search for which rom suits u the best same goes with kernels

Kernel and Sound

hi guys. i´m trying to put my i9305 LTE the best mp3 player that i can get. i read that are some kernels (siyha) that has audio adjustments that "boosts" the sound, but o confess im really noob with flashing kernels and im afraid something goes wrong..
currently, i run CM11 nightly, but i can also run the CM10.1.3, i don't care about the android version on the phone...and i only "know" cyanogen mods.
so, i ask, is there any rom that as built in some kernel like siyha (i read that boeffla does the "same") that i can just flash the rom and complete my golds for sound?
i searched and searched but really i do know any other rom´s by using them...maybe someone with more experience can help me..
thnks
dont really need a kernel for that just go to the market and install viper4android or go here to the official viper4android site on XDA. It will amp your sound easily without having to have a new kernel

Every good kernel has an Instalation Guide. Follow this steps and no problem
You must find compatible kernel.
Also you must find that kernel include app or you must use Aroma installer to change anything

I tried cm 10.1, omnirom, ct-rom and with these roms if i flash boeffla nothing happens, if i flash agni stays in bootloop..
The only rom that has what i need(kernel)is amsha but i hate the design :/
To flash a zip kernel is not the normal procedure in cwm?

With Agni, you'll have to flash a custom recovery thats able to run f2fs (check the thread, you'll be able to find a link there)
If you get the chance I'd check out SOKP, Milestone 2 is a bit buggy at the moment but they're rolling out MS3. Where most of the bugs are fixed.
Thats part of the reason why SOKP has such a huge following haha
Good Luck!
-- edit --
On the i9305, the boffela kernel + the control app (you can find it on LordBoeffla's website for free) will let you "amplify" the sound. Youll find this under the sound's tab in the boffela control app.
For the best audio, try to tweak it so then you get the minimum background "hiss" [set the android master volume around 80-90% then drop the boffela volume to an acceptable level for your earphone/headphone]
(From a semi audiophile's POV, you're better off getting a dedicated DAP if you're using the i9305 only as an Audio player. If you dont have that much music, you may want to try and stuff all of it on the on board storage as running it off the MicroSD may deter audio quality [from bottlenecks and what not])
thnks for all your helps after trying and trying, i managed to flash c-rom, and the agni kernel, i did not test exaustly but i think its this im looking for...a rom seemed like cyanogenmod and a sound tweak option...the only "problem" for now is i cannot update to the last version of c-rom, i will try to read all the posts on the right section to figure out whats happening...

No sound during call
This might be one of the best kernels for the 4.4 roms out there but it has just one problem in my device : there's no sound during calls. This happens only when I have Boeffla , as soon as I flash another kernel the sound fixes. I have tried uninstalling Boeffla Config and running the kernel without it but it's the same. How to solve this ? Thank you.

Hi,
make sure your init.d folder does not contain left overs of other kernels.
Especially when you were on Agni Pure before, this is a known issue as it overwrites Boeffla-Settings in an incompatible way.

hi good night i install the kernel today with the rom back-to-n00t- and when boot i lose my sdcard (internal) i uset a cwm touch as well and have a issue with that, i have to remove the kernel for keep my internal sdcard, some can help me?
Cwm touch comes with it's own kernel, so this proves it is not a kernel problem.
Must be something else, maybe a defective sd card...

I never tried it. I am not very sure Triangle Away is compatible with any S3 kk rom.
I would be very cautious to not end up in a brick.
I recall I purposely did not put native TriangleAway support into my 6.x series kernel, to not open up any risk here.

Hello.
In NIK60 ROM v.3.0 (4.4.4) I installed Kernel Boeffla 6 Beta 6 with the latest Boeffla Config V2 with Boeffla Config change the values and to reset the phone's settings Governor, the Governor's profile and Internal memory back to their default values pegasusq, standard and CFQ. The other parameters I've changed if maintained.
Where can be the problem? I have proven to Beta 5 and with different versions of Boeffla Config and the result is the same.
Sorry for my bad English.

Must have something to do with the rom.
It seems like
- either you have scripts init.d that overwrite the settings
- you have another app that resets this stuff again
- the rom start takes extremely long (you can give additional startup delay in boeffla-configs settings for a try)
Unfortunately there is no way to do a better diagnose without having your phone in hands.
But... there are reasons why I recommend going on pretty clean roms like JustArchis Port. There these kind of things do not happen.

I am sorry, but I have no time to try all sort of roms. That's what you users need to do.
I officially do not support the roms you mentioned, only Archiport. So, if all works, fine. But if not, it is like it is.
Especially on the 6.x kernel series I do give only very limited support as it is kinda inofficial and experimental kernel only.
If it worked fine on Blekota 8.0 and not on 8.1 anymore, it is quite obvious something changed which broke some functionality. But as said, I cannot support all roms around as my day only has 24 hours
Thanks for understanding

WHEN (!) I use zram, I use 600 MB total size with 4 devices.
But I almost never use it, I am a lean user, I always close my apps with back button. So zRam is not required for me.

SHV E210K
I 'm using S3 SHV E210K and my phone don't boot when i flash boeffla kernel.
Do boeffla kernel support my phone?
Lame question maybe. Should I turn the S3 power saving feature on while running a power saving profile or is it useless?

The slim kernel won't boot the cm12.1 builds.

I don't use CM, so I don't have any experience with what builds may be more stable. I know that Lanchon has done some CM kernel work recently, and perhaps the shift kernel is up to par, but I haven't tried any of them. I don't run CM.

What am I running? SlimLP. (<-- NOT bug-free)
Which do I recommend? This is a loaded question, which has no clear answer.
It's all about personal preference. Different firmwares will bring you different experiences with battery-life, features, tweakability and so-on. I like the minimal/lightweight approach, and so am a huge fan of slimroms firmwares.
If you want something close to stock, but debloated and fast, then I suggest trying cooked or ShoStock.
All of the 5.x firmwares for the s2 have the outgoing call bug, so I wouldn't consider any of them "bug free"
All of the 4.4.4 firmwares are pretty good (SlimKat for the win) and are very reliable.
Other users may have other recommendations, but you'll have to try them for yourself to know for sure what you like, and what you don't.
Happy flashing,
-Cyril

thanks. One more question and sorry for that ı'm asking too much...
What're think about overclocked stock rom? I'm using 1.4 Ghz overclocked really stable stock rom. I cleaned all At&t apps.
I don't have any experience overclocking.
My impression is that it's best use is to get the device to perform better at cpu-intense actions, and I use my devices primarily for email, texting, music playing, or other simple utility apps -nothing that benefits from over-clocking.
My favorite stock experience was using ShoStock (with the suggested Jeboo kernel). Clean, fast, & reliable.

It's usually under Settings > More > Emergency Broadcast (or something like that).

You can always use Titanium Backup Pro (or an equivalent), and freeze 'Cell Broadcast'.
Overcloclocking SlimLP - i777
Really love this ROM, nice work. Completely renewed my S2. However, the S2 is showing it's age and feels a bit slow with some apps.
Is anybody overclocking their S2? How would I go about doing that? What kernels would work with this ROM?
Best

Hi all,
I am currently running SlimKat 4.4.4 and would like to try this ROM. Thanks a lot for the amazing work put into this!
I read somewhere that a higher version of recovery is needed to flash LP roms. Do I have to get CWM Recovery v6.0.4.3 (or higher) first or can I flash directly from TWRP v2.7.1.0?
Best,

Any up to date 4.4.4 recovery should flash L firmware without issue. I can vouch for twrp. I don't use philz or cwm.
Happy flashing

Hi all,
I want to ask if its only me or its an known issue.
On LP I started to suffer from memory lack. All apps are being installed on to internal memory though I have a working SD card (both internal and external).
I have to move istalled apps to internal SD tofree up some space but this is not much help.
For example I cant isntall big games that have to download additional cash (Jurasic park for example) because I dont have enough space.
Is therу any way to install apps to the SD card at once?
