hello, i recently just flashed cm7 alpha 3. one particular issue which i have noticed is the choppy video playback (when on youtube for example). i searched the forums and there seems to be some people who have experienced this issue beginning with alpha 3.
since i only recently flashed cm7, and the version being alpha 3, i have no point of reference to determine which of the alphas is the most stable build.
to those who have been on alpha 2.1 as well as alpha 3, which would you consider to be the more stable build? also, does alpha 2.1 have video issues as i described herein above which i have found on alpha 3?
appreciate any insight you can give. thanks in advance.
I have used the two and three versions of Alpha. Two was a major improvement over just plain old WebOS. Three was able to remove the SOD that so many of us experienced, however Three is giving me audio issues with Pandora; a semi-regular "pop" and "hiss" sound as if I was playing a record. As I am 42 years of age, this was funny for about 3 minutes as I was able to relive my 80's childhood. And yes, I did play with DSP Manager, to no avail.
I have not experienced any video issues with Netflix or Youtube.
All in all I love my Touchdroid. As we all are, I am looking forward to a full beta on CM7 or ICS CM9.
I've used 2 & 3. Now I'm trying the tweaked cm7 xron-fied and have no problems, and considering that this is still in alpha; imagine what it'll be like once stable!
I've had no issues with video or audio.
You could use the uninstaller, reboot and install again.
Hope this helps, good luck.
my experiences with alpha 3 isn't so good lots of problem as compare to alpha 2.1
my advice is alpha 2.1 i couldn't see any noticeable improvement in alpha 3 over 2.1
alpha 2.1 is rock solid for me i don't have any issue
Maybe you should try the Xron-ified Mod ver of CM7 alpha 3, works flawlessly for me.
So I took the plunge and bought my self a Gtab, not too keen on blowing ridiculous amounts of money on tech, so for the specs and price tag the Gtab seemed to be the best bet.
Now I am fairly comfortable flashing Roms, I just would like some input from the community.
So whats the most functional and stable rom available currently?
CM7 has always been my go to first base rom for pretty much any phone I have flashed, but I dont quite like it on my Nook Color, its fairly buggy, but I blame the nook not CM7
but Hardware Acceleration sounds nice, and I know that none of the Comb roms have it, but neither do the GB Roms either right?
Looks like Clemsyns V8 is probably the best 2.2 rom out, but how is it in terms of functionality and compatibility with newer 3d games and other applications?
any other input would be greatly appreciated, I just figured I ask before I go on a flash spree, because it usually takes me a couple weeks of flashing this and flashing that before I settle on a rom and I didnt really want to drag this out that long. I just wanna flash, and use until ICS Stable Rom is released.
FrankenTab and Beastly ROMs are FroYo based and should have hardware acceleration, camera and video support. Plus, they are actively being updated. They aren't Honeycomb, and I still prefer VeganTAB 7.1 (even without hardware acceleration), but the FroYo ROMs will pretty much have everything working until a stable ICS version hits.

I've tried most of them at some point I guess it matters what you are willing to sacrifice. I love the look and feel of Flashback but no hardware acceleration, no camera, more ram used by the system ... (all Honeycomb roms are like that).
CM7 works great and I keep one gtab on it. MX Player has Tegra 2 software acceleration for video and most games and apps work. Has been very stable for 4 months, not buggy at all and looks great.
My other gtablet has landed on Beasty-Clemsyn. It is a Froyo rom, very stable and very fast with full hardware acceleration. I ended up here because everything just works like it is supposed to. Installed the new market, flashplayer, new version of VTL launcher and I really like it. It will hold me over till an ICS rom comes out.
FrankenTab and Beastly
I've been switching between FrankenTab and Beastly myself.
I think FrankenTab looks nicer overall but I've run across less issues with the Beastly rom and so I've settled with that until ICS is released for our G Tab.
Let us know which roms you try and your experience with them.
I am pleased that my FrankenTAB ROM has found its way over to XDA.
I would love to hear any issues users are having since we are actively developing this ROM (currently working on v1.0.2), but I cant help over here yet with an official support thread. If anyone needs help, you can PM me here, or google FrankenTAB and look for the original and most active thread for it on the site that starts with an "S".
Franken Tab is a great rom, I also went through allot of flashing trying different roms, soon the ICS ROM will be around and I am using the pre-alpha so what ever you decide set up for 1.2Bl and the latest CWM touch version. its coming n its cool.
Yup FrankenTab is the first rom I have flashed on this thing, and I am liking it so far.
-great wifi integrity
-fast as hell
-and the included VTL launcher is nice too.
plus having the ability speak with the Dev directly about suggestions and bugs is very nice as well.
If you want Flash to work well are you limited to 2.2 ROMs?

Flash works fine in 2.2 and 2.3 based ROMs. I have it working just fine in VeganTab GE 7.1.
From what I understand, it works (with caveats and quirks) in Honeycomb, and only with certain versions of Flash.
Sadly after messing with Franken and Beastly, I found my self at CM7s door.
Franken had me really really excited at first, it was fast, it was responsive, I only had it set at 1.33ghz, but there were a few issues with both that I found a bit to unstable for my taste.
Will see how CM7 holds me over.
I love 1.09 frankentab. It performs better then anything I have tried but is way behind brilliant corners in bench mark tests. I can't figure that out because it's seems 5 times faster in real life.

Hello,
I have had my Gtablet for about a year, and I have tried many roms.
FY,GB,HC,ICS,etc. Various incarnations. (Well, only 1 ICS)
From my understanding, Viewsonic, like many companies,
uses various suppliers for components, so the individual results with roms will vary.
And the physical build may vary. eg/ Volume (+) is actually (-)
(this is a reported build difference that my tablet has)
I seem to come back to Froyo roms for many reasons. Base platform OS.
Hardware acceleration. Stability. Etc.
Personally, I haven't found a newer gen rom that works as well as Froyo.
As stated on this and other sites, Be sure you follow the recomended
procedures for pre and post install. usually posted in the OP.
Really get to know and understand NVflash.
I always come back to the C+C rom final version. Beasty, although nice,
wouldn't do what C+C does for me.
I use my tablet as much, if not more than I use my PC, and I can run Splashtop
to access my pc, which is cool.
I do find certain games or apps that wont work, but, I am patient.
No problems with google apps.
It really comes down to researching, and testing, and finding out
the best rom for you and your tablet.
After all, this support, is almost free. Kudos to the devs.
J.
sorry. this is on another post. hope that is ok.
I've been on FrankenTAB 1.0.9 for two weeks or so and so far one of the best Froyo ROM's I've tried. I flashed quite a few ROM's for the 1.2BL but this one seems to work the best for me at the moment.
I just put the ICS rom on my gtab, and it looks great. Installing it wasn't that hard, I did have to switch bootloaders to 1.2. The only issue is I can't get my external SD card to work. I love using chrome.
In ICS, the external sd card is not named the way it is in other ICS distributions...look for /microsd folder instead of /emmc or /sdcard/external_sd like you may be used to.
If anyone is already on BL 1.2, ICS is definitely worth installing. The only two things that I've found that do not work are the camera and microphone but for me both are non-issues.
Hello ive been using my gtab with tnt rom and it runs really good

While I absolutely love the Eclipse 2.3 rom on my X2, and appreciate all the work that went into it, I might have to give it up. The camera just doesn't function well. While it does work, the quality is terrible. I need it to output good quality pictures (Almost as if it were on the stock rom). Is there any work around to this?
Thanks so much,
Bob
That's strange. i've been on Eclipse 2.3 since it came out and haven't noticed any quality changes in my pictures. Can you post one just so we can see?
i just tried mine and the pics and videos are the same as my dx running vxl1.0. great quality
After doing a reset and re-loading Eclipse, it seems to have improved considerably.
Thanks for the responses....
Hello, first an explanation then a question...
I'm pretty experienced in installing roms, etc.
The video camera is broken in Jelly bean 4.2.x for the samsung galaxy note i717 (att).
Several other models too.
I'm really really disappointed because that means i'm going to have to go back to ICS.
I spent many many hours working on this and can only get low quality fuzzy vid that doesn't even play back.
Many others have had this issue as well, but I can't find any word on a fix.
yes, i've installed the latest GalleryGoogle.apk
i'm using the Liquid Smooth RC8.
If anyone can provide some info, is anybody working on this problem etc, that would be great.
Also, is it possible to get the older ICS camera app working with JB ? I kind of doubt it.
I did install MX camera but it showed the same behavior. it wouldn't even record...
I've tried to post to the developer section for Liquid Smooth i717 but I'm "Not allowed to post there"
So this is the only place i can post...
any info is greatly appreciated.
i guess it's back to ICS then. bummer.
Since all the developers creating JB roms are working with a base rom that isn't from our phone, the video board and camera hardware are not an exact match. So on our phone no video.
Until samsung releases a JB rom for this model/hardware, there will be lingering issues.
Download ucam from play store records video fine on JB
sent from my lovely phone....hmmm wait its a tablet...waaa i dont really know.....im PARANOID NoW!
or a 4.1 camera apk
Thanks for the responses, have temporary fix that works.
Hi All,
Well after a ton of mucking around I've found a kludge.
Firstly the ucam is weird. i think it leads to what the actual problem is. in ucam you can only select either 176x144 or 1920x1080. That's it. It defaults to 176 because the note doesn't support 1920... this leads me to believe that the internal software/drivers are not recognizing the right 'pins' for the note i717 camera... interesting.
What worked for me was to go to 4.1 jellybean . I'm now using Gubment_Cheeze_v3.4.
After finally getting that setup, the included 4.1 camera works. Takes very nice video.
Note that I tried to use the 4.1 camera in 4.2 liquidsmooth, but it kept crashing, rebooting, etc.
I tried ucam as well but same behavior in 4.2.
Now, after installing Gubment I installed the camera 4.2 apk and it works too, but not for video.
but that's ok because i can do video with the 4.1 camera and cool picture stuff from the 4.2 camera.
good enough for now!
I've been looking though all different ROM's and still can't see one with a working camera. I'd prefer 4.2.2, but will go with 4.2.1, 4.1.x and even 4.0.x if needed. I just need a stable, FAST build with a working camera.
Thank you in advance.

Seems like developers' interest to G Tablet (and to most of old devices) is cooling down day by day. And we ain't gonna get 4.x with working cameras ever.
I tried lots of ROMs and for everyday use (at work and home) stopped at CyanogenMod7.2.0-RC0 BUILD98 REPACK | GTablet | 2.3.7 GWK74 (see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1144847 ) with some build.prop tweaks. Not the best ROM ever built, but much better than others. Skype works fine, office software, too, children play some games, bla-bla-bla... The only issue is SOD time to time, mostly after leaving the tab charging for all night long. In the rest - fast and stable enough.
Even when working, the camera itself is so poor that its not really useful for much. However, a hi-def usb webcam works fine with Dirty Bean and gives you a great picture.
