[Q] uk s3 not booting after latest update - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi,
i have an unrooted uk sgs3 on orange.
last night i found an update come thru on my phone which i delayed until i checked it out & backed up all my stuff including an android note pad (which i keep a few things on for work).
anyway my daughter was playing about with my phone & pressed the update, which in turn just about killed my phone ( all it does now is stays on the samsung screen).
ive tried taking the battery out for ages, fully charging it & going into the v+, home, power screen but nothing seems to work.
is there any way to reload the original firmware without losing all the aps etc.
if so or even if there isn't could anyone help me find how to get it back working.
thanks.

got it back up and running, hopefully not lost many pics (think theyre on my ext sd card).
is it worth trying to install the new 4.3 via odin or would you recomend leaving it at 4.1.2 ????
thanks

How to restore an original firmware?

Hello.
I have a problem. When I bought my SGS2, I had a branded software (GINGERBREAD). I decided to update it to ICS. Everything went well, but I played a little bit with Android and messed up some things. My power screen did not appear. Phone was just turning off, while I was holding the power button, instead of showing up the power screen, where I could be able to turn off the flight mode for example. Simply, it was just straightly turning off. And I did not have lockscreen. When I pressed the lock key, the screen just got dark, and, when I pressed it again, the screen went on, without the lock screen to tap and move. It just took me straightly to the screen I had had before. I decided to wipe everything, but it did not help. I searched the Net and found my branded ROM, that I seemingly had pre-installed on my phone. After flashing I hoped everything to go well. Unfortunately, it did not solve the problem. I could not even make a call or access the internet. It said, that I do not have access to the network and asked me to put my sim card in, when I had it done. That was weird. I tried to install KI3 ROM, that I found on the net. It restored my Android to 2.3.5 and fixed the problems. But now, when I try to update my Android to ICS, the problems appear again. I just got stuck on 2.3.5 and I do not see any working way to update my Android.
What is funny, even after wiping, on the home screen, when the phone should ask me to type my google account to synchronize and all that things, it just takes me straightly to the home screen. It looks like the data about my account is saved somewhere on PC, and even the wipe does not seem to delete the data. That is rediculous. But this is about ICS only. Gingerbread is OK.
If you could, give me some real working links. I might used some damaged ROMs or something like that. I do not know, I have no clue. I've been trying to fix that since I got the problem, so I am really hopeless.
Thanks in advance.

1. Download a stock firmware. But, register first.
2. Download Odin.
3. Happy flashing.
I have tried to use Odin. I do not know, which link shall I choose. On the site, you gave me link to, there are a lot of ROMs. Which is the stock?
They are all stock. Where did you purchase your phone (location, carrier), do you have the i9100 or other (i9100t, i9100G, i9100p etc), is it branded.
I am from Poland, so I bought my phone in Poland. The carrier is Play and I have the original I9100. I have already tried to re-install stock firmware and then ICS, but I have no lock screen and no power menu. I also have no connection, it says put a sim card in, even, when it is in. Wipe does not help. I do not even have the first-start screen, when it asks you to type your google account data and synchronize. It just installs and updates aps and that is it. That is weird. It was OK before, but it got screwed up.

Like i said, flash the stock firmware. Sammobile.com>register>FIRMWARE>select your device, region etc>download.
I did, I tried to use the older version of Odin (1.3), and it helped a little bit, but I can not still update Android to ICS properly. I just get sometimes lock-up screen and/or a lot of red messages in recovery mode and I can not boot my system up.

Use CHECKFUS to download your providers or your matching original ICS firmware and flash via ODIN .
Problems then suggest a full wipe of the phone and sd card .

I will try that. But, one more question. Shall I use the PC version of CHECKFUS or the mobile one?
Use the PC version, which will enable you to download the rom & decrypt the package automatically. Connect your phone to PC via USB, fire up Odin, and choose the rom package you download with Checkfus in the PDA section. Flash.

Currently, I did the steps you gave me above and now Odin is flashing my stock kernel (at least, it is supposed to be my stock ROM). Stay tuned.
@ REFRESH.
After flashing, recovery mode vomited with a lot of red messages with errors again. As it was a 3 files ROM, I selected PIT and checked re-partition. Should I leave these options untouched, even when it is the 3 files ROM?

The advice on XDA is never use PIT and never repartition .

I did, but it did not help. What about trying to unmount these directories instead of just formatting in CWM RECOVERY?
Do a full wipe again...select PDA on Odin for rom file...select CSC also and insert the same firmware file u have inserted into the PDA onto the CDC..... It will change ur sales code back to the stock firmware and wipe all the crap that was on there before.do not select any other option on the odin board other than the ones that should already be ticked/selected

I've managed to fix that.
I just had to use a command prompt from Play Store, to change a line of code in one file.

[Q] Is my S II soft-bricked?

Hi everyone,
I have a Galaxy S II from Bell Canada and it was recently updated via Kies to Android 4.1.2 a couple weeks ago. I've been having all sorts of problems with it since the update, including random freezing, crashing, and so on, so I intended to backup and factory reset this weekend. Before I could do that however, it shutdown and now I can't boot it back up.
Symptoms:
- The phone gets past the Samsung Galaxy S II animation, but then goes immediately to the glowing SAMSUNG logo and stays that way for several minutes before shutting down.
- Battery power is not an issue. Half-full to full battery makes no difference.
- Connecting it to my PC allows Windows 7 to install most of the needed drivers, except it fails on 'MTP USB device failed'. This might simply be because the phone doesn't fully boot.
What I've tried:
- Multiple reboots (shutdown and restart)
- Removing the SD card and multiple reboots
- Wiping the cache partition several times and booting via the stock recovery menu (reached by Volume + Home + Power)
I have backups but from several months ago, so anything I can do to flash the firmware and retain my data would be appreciated. I've looked at other threads but many users seem to have slightly different issues or are with other carriers. I haven't played around with flashing or anything since getting the phone two years ago, so I don't know how much of a difference their steps would be from mine.
The phone is either just inside the warranty period or just outside... I don't have the exact date if that makes a difference here.
Any help tracking down the issue or helping to get it back to functional would be appreciated.
Firstly, from your post it looks your phone is not rooted. If that is the case then i am afraid we are left with not much options to try.
I would advise, if u want to come out of this issue and data is not the concdrn then do a hard reset by getting into the recovery console.
And, if you are rooted than simply reinstall the rom without resetting anything. This will bring back the rom and you will also not loose any data.

That's correct, the phone isn't rooted. I'd like to exhaust all other options before attempting something that will wipe the data... is it possible to determine the exact problem some other way?
Nope. If it were me I'd be doing a wipe (and this wouldn't faze me because I back my stuff up regularly).

Looks difficult to save the data. But you may try, i am not sure it will work.
find out a compatible rooted kernel. Get into the download mode and with the help of odin flash this kernel. (ensure its *.tar file ).
Once done try to boot the phone. if no luck, clear the cache and then again try. Still no luck, then i am afraid you have to hard reset.
Best of luck.

[Q] SEEEEERRRRIOUS problem when updating to 4.3

I am actually a Newbie to Linux & Android stuff...
I am from India & since a Month, My Phone SGS3(Current Version is 4.1.2) kept saying there's an OTA Update of 4.3 & I kept Postoning it till today...I have downloaded the Update, but I kept postponing it...
But, just today, I decided to do the OTA Update...
1) Phone had 37%-of-Battery when I started the Update...And ALSO I connected to the Power Source before starting the UPDATE & made sure the Phone was charging...
2) Exactly at 84% of the UPDATE (it was just around 2-Minutes after starting of the Update, so that means the 30%-odd Charging left is not a Problem I am sure), PHONE went BLANK & it did not Restart (or) do anything even after I waited for around 30-Minutes...It is Just SIMPLY-BLANK...
3) Now, when I disconnect & connect the Charger, there is no Indication of Charging also...
4) Now, When I Hold the POWER-button till the Samsung LOGO comes, it just goes BLANK again...Phone does not Load into the OS...
5) Now, KIES also not detecting the Phone...Also, I Re-installed Kies, but in vain...(Actually, many a times, KIES would not work for me, so I always used Phone Explorer to Backup the Data...I hardly use/used KIES)

Need Help With Galaxy S7 in Bootloop (Please :( )

So I posted the following on a few other places
(please expand)
I am in desperate need of help . Yesterday, I woke up and went on my phone and it was acting strange. It was saying that apps that I wasn't using had stopped working or something like that, which was pretty weird, so I decided to restart it. However, when I tried to turn it on again, it got to the carrier screen (I have AT&T) it didn't do anything after. It just stayed on that screen and vibrated in a pattern. I was able to hold home + power + volume down to restart it, and I was able to get to the recovery options screen. I tried clearing the cache and all the data, but no luck. I tried flashing the stock firmware but I couldn't find anything new enough. I had rooted my phone about 5 days earlier, but it had worked perfectly fine up until yesterday. I tried everything I could think of and find online. I recently called AT&T up and they're sending me a new phone, but I have to send my phone to them, and I feel almost certain that they'll find that I've been messing with it. Whether it's the giant lock with the word "Custom" above it, or something in the files. I have 10 days to send it in to them and I need a way to either fix my phone, or wipe ALL of my phone's data before then, but I feel like completely wiping everything might void the warranty as well. I'm not even sure that the root caused the problem.
I do have friends who have the same phone as me, would it be possible to somehow get the most recent firmware off of one of their phones and get it on to mine? I have the G930A and I couldn't find firmware recent enough for my device. I have read A LOT about this issue in the past day and I vaguely remember something about being able to get someone at Best Buy or some other store to flash the most recent firmware onto the phone? Is something like that possible?
Please help, I can't afford the $600+ if it doesn't pass. Any and all ideas are welcomed. Thanks .
After reading some stuff here, I have found out that I can somehow make a backup of the stock firmware. I wouldn't actually be using my phone to make the backup since I don't actually have the stock firmware. I wouldn't be using my phone to make the backup, I have friends with the same phone and carrier. All I need is direction on how to do it. I have a Galaxy S7 (not the bomb edition) and my carrier is AT&T, although I'm not sure that's needed.

Haaaalp! Another victim of the OTA update screwing my phone after debloat...possible to recover some files via recovery or download mode?

Hello all...hoping to get some assistance with this thing. Long story short, debloated it due to horrid battery life and high heat. Everything was great until about a week ago when my settings app go renamed somehow. Tried fixing it but couldn't find the com.android.settings file with the correct signature for my phone (AT&T, US Model, unlocked, not rooted).
It's been working fine except no settings...so I backed up the usual stuff and had plans to do a factory reset this weekend. A few hours ago I picked it up and it went all wonky on me. Upon boot, it comes up to the lock screen and then the screen just starts turning on/off. I'm unable to bring up the passcode screen...but, am able to bring up the power menu by holding the power button. But, can't power down or get into safe mode that way. After about 5 seconds of doing this, it reboots. Rinse and repeat. Safe mode via buttons starts, but, does the same thing.
I am able to get into both recovery mode and download mode though. I can view logs/etc.
Normally, I'd just ***** and moan, then do the factory reset, However, I made one huge oversight when I backed up my data earlier this week and forgot to backup my notes. There's about a dozen of them, pages and pages long with all the medical details regarding my sons illness that I've been tracking for years. It's a nightmare dealing with different Dr's all the time so I've logged it all on the phone. Unfortunately, the best app I've found for it doesn't do cloud storage and keeps them saved as local txt files on the device.
Is there any hope I can somehow pull the files using recovery/download mode or utilize the logs to determine the errors and fix it enough to be able to get them? I'm fairly tech savvy and have ADB installed. I'm super ADD though and my head is just spinning trying to sort through all the possible posts regarding trying to do this...many being for older phones.
Absolute worst case, is there a legitimate service that would be able to do it?
Any help recovering my son's medical notes would be really really appreciated.

Yeah...that's the first thing I tried after safe mode failed. :\
There's quite a few folks reporting similar issues since the last OTA update a couple weeks ago.
Usually I delay until I get a chance to restore then allow it...this one didn't even give me a chance. I was using my phone when it popped up. No option to remind me later. When I tried to exit it counted down from 10, rebooted and installed.

Thanks for the idea. But, yeah, tried that to already...cleared cache and repaired apps afterwards too. Tried it with cable, tried a 2.0 cable too.
No dice.
The app repair works just fine and then it does the same thing when lock screen tries to appear.

I think that you can't trip Knox only when you flash official firmware over unlocked bootloader and custom ROM, but I'm not so sure.
Last time I did that is when I had Samsung Galaxy S2 and flashing official firmware over official firmware and that didn't trip the Knox counter
