I was able to get HD11 installed and running fine, except wifi didn't work. I selected both the rom and module zip before install, but I was told wifi didn't work because I was supposed to flash the module AFTER the first reboot after HD11 install. I wanted to start over from scratch and deleted rom slot 1, but its still showing very little space left so I don't think I correctly deleted the rom (might of just deleted the rom slot, not the actual rom files). Should I have used the wipe feature? Can anyone please help me with directions on what to do to get SS back to before I created a ROM slot, and HD11 deleted so I can start over, thank you!

If you re-read the OP it states to remove safestrap via the app. Hope that helps.
delete rom slot 1
I have had issues with HD installing in slot 1, I am not sure why but slot 2 or 3 have worked much better for me when installing Hyperdrive. I would suggest trying this and see if it works for you as well.
Hope this helps!
I installed it following the instructions and did not reboot before installing the MJ7 module zip. It works with WIFI for me. I came from ME7.
Did you get this worked out @ickray?

I just got everything set up from scratch, I'm making a backup with titanium backup pro right now, so I can have all my apps easily restored once I get the rom installed. I'm only backing up "system apps" since I heard backing up "system apps + data" can screw alot of things up when installing a rom (correct me if I'm wrong). Once I get the backup of my apps on my ext SD card, I'm going for round two of installing HD11 :good:. Thanks for the help so far, I appreciate it.
Ok. Just wondering.

So I decided I wanted to root my s4 mk2. Did a bunch of research, found out I can only root using saferoot. Alright, got it rooted, great. Found out I can only use safestrap in addition to saferoot. Okay, I didn't have a problem with that. But then I found out I can really only use like hyperdrive as a rom. So I tried downloading it, wouldnt download. Oh well, I decided I would wait until more roms comes out for my verizon s4 mk2 and I only had lie 2.5 gb space left. I looked up the thread to delete safestrap 3.71, which is the one I downloaded. It said to remove via apk file. This is where I got stumped... I only understand that the apk file is what android apps use. But how and where do I access these files? I got file manager, searched apk files, and deleted the one that said safestrap. I deleted the safestrap app afterwards. But my memory was still large. I found out safestrap is based in TWRP. Okay, so I went in my storage in the settings and deleted twrp which took up almost 4 gb. But I rebooted my s4, and it still boots to the safestrap screen. I'm nit sure what I'm missing and stuff. Btw, this was my first attempted root and stuff.

So going into settings>application manager and trying to uninstall Safestrap didn't work?
I'm guessing that you'll have to reinstall Safestrap through a file manager and then uninstalling it properly, but that's just a guess. The dev for Safestrap is here quite often.
What I think you mostly deleted when you jettisoned TWRP is your backup files.

You remove Safestrap like you delete any other application, using the Application Manager (Settings, more, Application manager).
Doing that will allow Safestrap to remove any slots and the recovery image.
Well, with the way you've taken a sledgehammer to your phone, it may require another sledgehammer to recover it.
Try re-installing Safestrap. Once that's done, use it to remove the Safestrap recovery.
Then, use App manager to remove it. Hopefully that'll get the storage back.
If not, flash a no-wipe ROM.

Do you think he'd have to backup the files he might want to save and reformat his internal storage before he flashes the no wipe?
I'm asking only because I've installed Hyperdrive to the stock slot and have not created any other slots. I suspect I'll have to flash a no wipe if I have to return my phone to stock.
Thanks guys! Reinstalling it and then uninstalling the recovery through the app itself helped! I'm not going to unroot it yet, but I'm just gonna wait until I find a rom that works with my build to install a recovery

I can only recommend Hyperdrive because that's the only one I've tried. The longer I play this game, the less I like flashing the ROM du jour. I can't say nothing but good about it.
I've got mine installed in the stock slot with no other slots partitioned. I've got just over 6 gigs left. If it gets tight, I've got a 64 gig SD card to move stuff over to.
Yeah I was definitely willing to try hyperdrive! I was really wanting liquid smooth, until I found out that nothing if available fur ny build lol. I checked out hyperdrive instead, was getting ready to install it, but then I saw it was 1.6 gigs haha. My maximum download speed at my house is like 150 kb/s which is a problem. Plus we're throttled at 475 mb/day... I had to wait to try and download it when I got to my college the next day. For some reason, hyperdrive kept failing for me between 5-10% if the download so I just ditched trying to get it
Hi, I just recently rooted my Samsung Galaxy s4, Installed the latest SafeStrap. After successfully installing SafeStrap I made a custom boot and selected the boot and wiped both caches and did factory reset. Then I installed HyperDrive and then without reboot installed the mk2 module. After rebooting the phone I waited 10 mins and restarted the phone. Everything worked but the Wifi wont toggle on, so I did a lot of searching to find a solution. One thing i tried was loading up the stock boot and copying the two system/lib/module files and putting them on the hyperdrive rom. I did that buy deleting the same two files in the hypderdrive rom then copying the two file over from the stock rom. Restarted and it didn't work. When i boot from the stock rom the wifi works fine but not on the hyperdrive rom that why i tried that. I went to advance wifi and made sure the setting for Keep WiFi on during sleep is set two always. I looked around all over forums for mk2 wifi solution and tried a couple but to no avail Can you guys please help me? Thank You!

If WiFi won't turn on, then you haven't flashed the proper kernel modules corresponding to your stock ROM.
Are the "MK2" modules you flashed the ones for your specific model?
Sigh. Here we go again...
Boot the stock rom. Copy the files in /system/lib/modules onto your external SD card.
Boot Hyperdrive. Mount system read/write, then restore those files into /system/lib/modules
Reboot Hyperdrive. You should now have WiFi.
Try reflashing these modules that are from the safestrap

That's impossible to say since you didn't say anything about what you might have done to make it stop working.
Did you install Safestrap?
Did you install a ROM into a new slot? If so, did you subsequently flash the correct kernel modules?
What software are you using? For that matter, what phone are you using?
The most common cause is forgetting to flash the kernel modules after flashing a ROM. The instructions in this thread explain how to recover from that.
Ok so I am now super frustrated. I don't know what to try now.
ATT l337 S4
I did the down grade from the first post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2663545
Did the bypasslkm exploit and thats where I stopped. So my MK2 is now rooted and has wifi.
I then installed hyperdrive on rom slot 1
Now no matter what I do I can not get the wifi to toggle on.
I clean installed the rom, fresh slot partition, clear davlink etc, install rom, install mk2 modules, reboot, nothing, wifi wont toggle.
Tried the above suggestion of moving the system/lib/module files from the working rom.......did it both in ESexplorer inside the rom, and also from the file manager inside safestrap......still no wifi.......
Its the last thing I need.
Have a rooted gear watch with nova launcher etc. Needed this rom so I would have bluetooth tethering, which I now have....but no wifi.

Mounting system read/write? Use Root Explorer or a similar tool that is root aware.
Or, use a shell and "mount -o remount,rw /system".
I have a 16 gig 8.9" KF that I bought a week or so ago.
I immediately installed safestrap and after rooting the stock ROM and creating a new ROM slot, I restored the backup to ROM slot 1. I then did a bunch of mods including all the GAPPS/HDXPosed module etc. to the ROM slot 1 ROM and everything works perfectly.
I have both the Google Playstore and the Amazon Playstore running side by side and both work perfectly. GMAIL works perfectly and so does Chrome browser. Google voice search works and so does Google maps.
Nova Prime Launcher & live widgets work perfectly, but I hardly ever use that setup as the main reason I bought it was to use as a Kindle reader(to replace a Kindle Paperwhite that I don't really like).
Now that I have it all setup the way I want it, I don't plan on making any more changes at all. At this point, I have been considering doing the same thing I did with my Galaxy Note 3 running safestrap and a Beans ROM.
With the Note, after I had the ROM in the slot running perfectly, I backed it up (and saved a copy of the BU to my Surface tablet) and then went in and deleted the ROM slot and restored the BU to the stock slot so I regained all the space taken by the ROM slot.and have run that way ever since.
Now, I am considering doing the same thing with the KF. Does anybody see any reason why this wouldn't work fine with the Fire the same way it has in my phone??

I would like to know the answer to that question as well.
Just to clarify, you are talking about writing over your stock rom with the modified one containing Gapps and Amazon?
I've never had to restore from safestrap, if something happens and you cannot boot to your new stock rom will it let you enter recovery and load a rom from a source not already on the kindle? So, load your backup file from your pc on to your device?

Tried it earlier and it sent me in to a boot loop. If/when I get back up and running again I'll probably just do the modifications on my stock to begin with and see how that works out.

I tried what you are talking about. First, I had difficulty getting safestrap to do the backup. it was as if there was not enough space to write the backup. I had to cannibalize the install by deleting apps until I could get the backup to complete. Second, when I tried to install the backup in my stock ROM partition, the install failed. Third, and most importantly, I then mistakenly touched the reboot button....then I had a non-recoverable brick type device.
If I decide to try again I will use safestrap to backup my stock system and install everything from scratch on my stock ROM partition not a ROM slot. Right now I am operating on a new device in a ROM slot because I haven't had the courage to build from scratch on my stock ROM.

Too many of the system files and directories were missing to gain root again. I had access with adb but couldn't install the system files and safestrap was gone. I could push a few files, but without root access nothing would push into the system directories. adb "shell" didn't work because of missing libraries.
endless bootloop
This was my first time rooting an S4. I installed safestrap and installed Hyperdrive rom. My issue is that my internal storage is completely full. It says that misc files is taking up 15gb of space and it's system memory.

I'm in the same boat. Trying to find out if I can install HyperDrive over the Stock ROM without bricking the phone. I'm hoping that will free up a lot of space as I would need to wipe the slot prior to installing. Just a little worried about doing it.
One thing I did do was boot into Stock and remove all apps, updates, and as much stuff as I could. This didn't have any effect on the loss of space. I know that while digging through posts on these forums I saw a lot of outrage when the S4 first came out about all the bloatware that took up a good 6gigs of space on a stock phone.
Also when I did the backup of the Stock ROM onto the SD card, I made sure that I moved it off the SD Card and onto an external Hard Drive for safe keeping and to free up some space on my SD Card. I also deleted the HyperDrive install as well since it is 1.xGigs of space on the SD card.
Sorry I don't have anything really to contribute, but would be interested in hearing if you find a way to free up some space as well.
I run all of my roms in stock slot because of that very reason. I have a stock rooted backup I keep on my computer so it doesn't accidentally get deleted from SD card and to also save space on my external. I haven't had any problems at all with running any tw based custom roms in the stock slot. Just make sure your base is compatible with the roms you flash. HD15 requires mj7 or mk2 just do like normal and flash the modules after the install and before booting into the rom.
Profit and enjoy the extra space [emoji1][emoji106]

The best way to do this is to Odin to stock, root, install safestrap, copy System/lib/modules folder to ext SD or comp. Back up stock slot in safe strap recovery. Then wipe stock slot and flash hyperdrive 15 and mk2 or mj7 (according to your build) modules. Reboot then replace system/lib/modules with the one you copied from stock and Fix it's permissions.

Something that will save plenty of time would be to backup your slot 1 and wipe your stock slot then restore your hd15 backup of slot 1 and restore it to the stock slot and flash kernel modules for good measure. Delete slot 1.

Ah. Gotcha. I must have just gotten lucky then haha.
I will omit that so nobody runs into that.
I did restore from slot 1 to stock. But what I did was backup slot 1, wipe everything on stock slot, restore backup to stock slot then flash modules.
Like I said though I must have gotten lucky.
But why would you want to copy the files in the lib folder? Isn't that the same as flashing the modules before booting into the rom?

All I know is that I tried just flashing modules and wifi wouldn't even turn on. When I researched it the solution above is the one I found.
k1mu said:
Here's what you do to recover your Wifi.
First, if you didn't overwrite the stock slot:
1. Boot your stock slot.
2. Copy the two files in /system/lib/modules to your EXTERNAL sdcard.
3. Boot the custom slot.
4. Use your favorite root file manager to mount /system read-write, then copy those files from the external sdcard into /system/lib/modules in your custom slot.
5. Reboot. Wifi should be back.
Second, if you flashed over the stock slot: :crying:
Well, you've written over the factory modules. You'll need to get them back.
A. Find someone with the same device as you that's unmodified and ask them for the contents of /system/lib/modules. Copy them to your /system/lib/modules.
B. Remove Safestrap and install a factory stock ROM. You can now use Safestrap to flash into a different slot and use the directions above.
If you INSIST on flashing over the factory ROM again (i.e. you haven't learned why that's a bad idea), then copy off the files to your external sdcard before you install Safestrap, then go to step 4 above after you finish flashing the custom ROM.
C. Take apart a factory ROM image and extract the contents of the /system/lib/modules directory onto your external sdcard. Go to step 4 above.

Like you said, you were lucky. Because if the module zip were the same, why would one need to get the unmodified one from a stock rom rather than downloading the one from the safestrap thread? I'm guessing the module zip is meant to work on rom slots and not the stock. Idk how yours worked, but to the OP : flashing to stock slot is not recommended by hash and you won't get any support/help from him as he states in his thread, so proceed at your own risk. But the above method has worked for me and others . Good luck.

Yeah. I have the patience to work with it. Plus I been with safestrap since it first came out for the razr so I knew what I was getting into when I unfortunately had to do a warranty claim on my mdk due to a faulty touch screen digitizer.
If I get it screwed up too bad I just start over with Odin.

Flashed HyperDrive RLS15 over the stock ROM this morning. Flashed the Modules before reboot and after install. Only issue I had was TouchWiz Home crashing on occasion, but a kindly soul on here told me it looked like it was an issue associated with restoring data. Although I didn't restore data, I also chose to just flash over the Stock ROM and use the installers Wipe/Factory Reset option instead of wiping the ROM slot first. All I had to do was boot into recovery with SafeStrap and Wipe the new ROM, reboot, and good to go.
Oh, and the free space on the device using the flashed Stock ROM is now close to 6Gigs! Oh the Glory! Gonna give everything a few days and if it all remains good to go, I'll delete the RLS14 ROM and maybe try some other ROM's out, now that I have room.

I have a Verizon droid RAZR that the screen has cracked in many places. I have bought a new phone and have no plans for ever using this as a phone. What I would like to do is install a ROM over the stock one, not dual boot both. I was also wanting to get rid of all of the phone stuff, no Verizon apps, no SMS, and no phone logs. I would use this like a tablet and would love to save as much space as possible. I don't need the moto docks (I don't have one). Basicly strip this thing down to just bare necessities. Is it even possible to do this? If so is there a ROM that gets great battery life? Thanks for reading my question.

You can flash ROM on your stock slot and then delete the useless apks.
Try any AOSP ROM. It should work fine.

I have downloaded tonyt's aokp rom. I have extracted the rom to its own folder and have looked at the apps in the app folder. System>app. I am not sure which of these I can get rid of. I would like to get ride of anything that is VZW or phone related just keeping maybe the contacts. I dont know what apps should be gotten rid of with out breaking the rom. Sorry I'm a noob. All I have done was flash a few roms, never tried to remove apks before. Do I need a cellphone broadcast for location services like maps and for the in browser location? I have safestrap installed. It will not let me flash a rom over stock rom. I am trying to find a way to get cwm or twrp installed instead.
ok bricked my phone. Device would restart and get the red moto logo, then nothing, blank black screen. rebooted the phone and could not get to safestrap. Used Matt's utility to install jb and reroot phone.
The procedure that I used to install the rom on my stock image is as follows:
1. copied rom zip to micro sd card
2. booted to safestrap
3. wiped cache, delvic, and system
4. installed rom zip through safestrap
5. no errors got success
6. reboot got nothing
I think anything could still happen even if SafeStrap didnt indicate any error after installation, that's why backup is important, also this ;

Notice 2 - MAKE SURE you see "Update partition detail...." in SafeStrap log console before you press "Reboot System" or you will not get boot!

You will need to do a complete wipe when flashing a new ROM, including /data.
Use latest SS. And make sure the ROM is compatible with the latest SS.

How do I format the internal storage? I have about 3 roms I have running and I have games and apps that I have uninstalled that left behind folders in root folders and some apps that did not get uninstalled also left behind some data. I tried doing a factory reset and also tried using safestrap to wipe internal but it fails. I made a folder in my system folder and put 2 pics in it then factory reset, wiped system data, and checked every box in the advance wipe options and that folder (along with the others) are still there.

Every slot has its own /data partition.
After you activate a slot, wipe /data along with system and cache.
That is called full wipe. It will remove all your apps, files and user settings will be deleted.
Then flash your desired ROM.
