Аfter the update to 4.3 I lost root. I tried with Chinese VRoot_1.7.2 and King android root, but does not work. Before updating I rooted with VRoot_1.7.2.
Any idea how to root?
Unfortunately, I have no answer for you, but as a warning to other people, I will repost a previous post here.
If your current firmware does not have root access, then use the Vroot tool to gain root access. After gaining root access, install SuperSU and turn on its Survival mode and Install SuperSU into /system settings. Make sure the Install SuperSU into /system setting is greyed-out before updating to 4.3 via OTA. Do not update via Sony PC Companion, Sony Mobile Update Service, or by flashing FTF -- doing so will likely cause you to lose root access. That is what happened to many people during the last firmware update. People who had root access with SuperSU installed as described above and updated via OTA, retained root access. People who had root access but updated via Sony PC Companion, Sony Mobile Update Service, or by flashing FTF, lost root access. Luckily, the Vroot tool became available and allowed those people to regain root access. There is no guarantee that the Vroot tool will work with the 4.3 update. Of course, I could be wrong.

Did your vroot 1.7 updated automatically to v1.7.2 ?? mine is trying to update but gets error after a while.. since an hour lets see if it updates successfully to v1.7.2... my model library date is still 130912... I think I'll wait for OTA
Edit**** After many retries I've now landed to V1.7.4... do you guys think I should try to flash and try to root?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588442
It works fine, the guide is a little confused, dont need any backup, just follow the procedure and have the files ready
so basically vroot wont work then?
Actually I tried a lot of one click roots and they failed. And if u remember super su updates one of them was writen in whats new: If u just updated to 4.3 please reroot ur device again so I think that even the OTA will unroot ur device even if u r using survival mode so I think that some body can root using cmd rooting ways ex: Runme.bat files. I was asking if flash tool can root because I has a root function.

I found a very easy way to root our tablets but we need unlocked bootloader here is the link :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2590602
My question is if i relocked the bootloader I will lose my root?
If for those who have wifi models to know if it is allowed to unlock ur bootloader do the following steps:
1. Open ur contacts
2. Press the three dots and select settings
3. Hold for 5 seconds in the blank over the status bar like that:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
4. A button will appear press on it:
5. Enter the service code *#*#7374823#*#*
6. Now go to sevice info ---> configuration.
7. If it says bootloader unlock allowed: YES then go to Sony Mobile and search for how to unlock the bootloader or there is another way to unlock the bootloader using flashtool but I didnt try it. I dont know if I can post the link or not. Before I forget if bootloader unlock allowed: No dont do any thing just wait until there is a way to root ur tablet like one click root software or rooting toolkits like Doomlord one.
Plz answer my question: if i relocked the bootloader I will lose my root?

The easiest way to root is unlocking bootloader as the link I have put but I dont know if I have the permission to put external link for unlocking bootloader. There is another way but hard and looks dangerous and boring ( u have to downgrade then upgrade then root. Looks dangerous and complicated)

Did you start with 4.3 and downgrade, or can you simply root the 4.3 without downgrading? I have 4.3 installed and it seems like a hassle to downgrade to 4.1.2, root, upgrade to 4.3. Which may not even be possiple, because I used sony companion tool to upgrade to 4.3?

Unlocked bootloader, via testpoint method in this tool. via http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1409269.
Rooted by following all steps mentioned in this post.
Locked the bootloader again.
Will update if any problem occurs in usage or updating.
TESTPOINT method should be used very carefully. better to take some help from another person. when connecting or disconnecting of usb cable is required it should be done from pc, microusb should always be connected to avoid moving the phone while touching the testpoint.

Root does not equal unlocked bootloader. Read the important information in every thread before you attempt to use what they post. Else, you wind up looking like an idiot, like you do now. Now if you want to do nandroid, follow the link in the post above and unlock your bootloader.

Rooting your phone, and unlocking bootloader are 2 different things.
Rooting is for your ROM, while unlocking bootloader is for your phone...

I want to root and back up TA
1 - My understanding is for backing up TA, i need to be rooted. But for rooting I need to be unlocked. But unlocking will erase the TA information. Am I wrong.
2- If I unlock boatloader can I flash back to pure stock for either warranty or returning the device.
Thanks
C6806 eh?
- Open the dialer and dial *#*#7378423#*#*
- Go to Service Info -> Configuration and check what is says under "Rooting status". Does it say Yes or No?
If it says yes, go ahead and downgrade to 532 and root it using Bin4ry's root tool, backup your TA partition and then unlock the bootloader, update to 757 again and flash Jackie's kernel and flash SuperSU. You can find links and what not here.

So I guess, I will follow what you are saying
One thing; don't panic when you're noticing that you're not getting any signal at all (cell, WiFi etc.). That's the way it is when you're downgrading the baseband past .290, but you're only going to be on 532 for a short period of time, so it's no big deal. You'll get your signal back once you're back on 757.

So you figured out that you had to use Flashtool? You backed up TA? And you managed to unlock the bootloader and root?
Don't worry, this is a one time thing. The boring stuff is the downgrading and backup of TA, so since you've backed it up, it's done. If you have to relock your bootloader and un-root for whatever reason and you want to root again, you don't have to do this again. You then have to unlock the bootloader and simply flash a kernel.

Hello.
I have wondered about unlocking bootloader and go over to CM on my Xperia Z2.
But before i do so, i want to clear up some things first.
Is there a way to relock bootloader on my phone?
Will I be able to unlock after I have relocked? (using official metod)
Backing up TA, will it store my DRM-keys and make it possible to get them back after locking bootloader again?
I want to do this because im currently using CM on my Mini Pro, and i want to try it on my Z2. And I want to be able to get back to stock when the L is out for Z2.
If someone can answer my questions, or point me to the right direction, I would be much happy.

1. Yes, using flashtool, other methods i dont know of
2. Yes
3. Drm keys are in TA partition so backup your Ta and restore later (restoring relocks bootloader so flash stock kernel before doing so)
4. Relocking bootloader doesnt bring back drm keys
5. Its safe to restore TA over a locked bootloader
6. You can only restore TA or relock bootloader on a stock kernel
Answers to your queries :
1) Yes, you can relock it once it is unlocked. Restoring TA partition will also relock your bootloader.
2) Yes you can.. You need to have the oem unlock key which you have received from Sony while unlocking for the first time.
3) Yes

OK, thanks for the quick answer.
Here is a short of what I understand now. Correct me if its wrong.
Using this tool, I can backup and restore TA.
When restoring TA, it will lock bootloader automatically.
To restore TA, I have to download and flash stock ROM for Z2 (Nordic in my case), and that should be ok to use XPERIFirm to download?
When done restoring TA, I dont have to do more than wait for L to come to me??
I hope this is right, in that case I might give it a try.
(I dont want to start something without planning a way out of it, thats why I ask.)

Have you got an idea how to enable double tap to wake?? Cannot find it anywhere.
if you have installed a custom rom like CM then the chances of the kernel not having the double tap to wake wont be there because its the kernel that will have it and not the rom . So if you do want it then you have to look for a kernel which has got the feature

After installing m5 kernel, download m5 kernel settings, thats how you enable double tap to wake
It should show an option somewhere in the device settings now

Already payed for sim unlock, the phone was locked to EE UK. Here's a SS to see what it says on rooting status. When i unlocked it, they provided me multiple codes, NCK, SPCK, NSCK, CCK. Is any of the codes for bootloader unlocking? If so, where do i type it? Cheers.

My Z2 should be here on Tues, and I was going to unlock the BL, the directions above are very clear and straightforward. (I had a TMO XZ w/ an unlockable BL, so I know how the rom flashing goes) My question is do I have to use Nutz recovery, could i just fastboot flash recovery twrp.img and use Team Wins? Also for flashing a ROM do I need to use the FFT or can I just flash a rom the more traditional way say like a Nexus device? Thx guys, Im very green when it comes to Sony. Nexus, HTC, and Sammy are my staples. Thx again.
Nut is mainly for locked bootloaders, once you've unlocked the bootloader flash a kernel such as dooms via adb then flash a rom from recovery ftfs are stock roms only any custom rom will have a flashable zip
Sent from my Xperia Z2 using Tapatalk
So you can unlock the bootloader, then relock it, restore TA partition and it will be like you never had unlocked the bootloader? I mean, if you do that, your device will be able to recieve OTA (and all Sony's features like x-reality and better camera performance) and your warranty will be "restored"?
Hi,
A couple of days ago I tried to root my xperia m4 because I want to remove those annoying paid apps you can't remove without rooting. But I genuinely tried EVERYTHING! But nothing would work. The first problem I ran into was unlocking my bootloader, wich I could not do. I followed a lot of different guides but none of them worked. Below are a few links of the guides I followed:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/m4-aqua/general/guide-rooting-xperia-m4-aqua-t3407215

I found a lot more "guides" but they were too sketchy if you ask me.
If someone is willing to help me, I would really appreciate it!

Go to the dialer and type in *#*#7378423#*#* until it pops ups the Service Info,then press Configuration and check for Rooting Status: Bootloader Unlocked,it should say Yes,if it says No then this is the reason any of the bootloader unlocking methods did not work and unfortunately you cannot unlock the bootloader.
And what error does it exactly say when you try unlocking? Make sure you have OEM unlocking and USB debugging on in the Developer Options.

I guess there's no way to unlock it, otherwise it would have worked I guess.
Theoretically you can use dirty cow exploit (stock kernel must be affected) to get temp root, after that you can get permanent root.
Regards, Pavel.

"Dirty cow exploit"? Never heard of that before, quite a funny name for an exploit if you ask me. I'll ask my good friend Google if he knows anything about this exploit. Thanks for letting me know!
And how exactly could I get a permanent root when I have a temp root? Can't find any information about it.

He can't unlock his bootloader
For a guide to unlock your bootloader using flashtool CLICK HERE.
Do that before attempting to root your phone as you wont be able to root as this is the first step and is compulsory

Unfortunately it's not possible. It's only possible to use some exploits

Since I'm not really experienced with this stuff, using an advanced exploit like the dirty cow exploit is probably not going to happen. But I am going to buy a new smartphone in the near future, this time I will buy one that can be rooted.
Thanks everyone for your help!
