The easiest way: download a cwm recovery from their webpage and put it on sd card and rename it from recovery-xxxx into update. Then download supersu zip from chainfire's webpage and put it on sd card. Reboot your device into recovery (vol up+home+power button) and navigate to apply update from sd card and select update.zip and it will flash you cwm recovery. When it boots navigate to instal a zip from sd card and find supersu zip and flash it and reboot your device and you will be rooted. Or you google how to root mugma5 i9100m

Look at PhilZ kernels then. He uses stock kernels with his custom CWM recovery (and will also automatically root your phone).
cheers
And search before posting if you want to follow the XDA-rules.

One click method works best for me. By the way, this is in the wrong section.
Or odin a custom ROM and you will have root, kernel and ROM. Then odin a CWR package if one is not included with the ROM package.. Done..

The best method is definitely using Odin to either flash a custom recovery, then flash a SU package or a whole custom ROM (and honestly, why wouldn't you? ).
If ALL you want is root with the stock crappy ROM then using one click is the best imo.
I think the best and easiest would be to flash a custom recovery through ODIN and then flash the latest SU package or any Su package for that matter ( it ll update itself once you are in the market )
http://www.mediafire.com/?mssii1m5tq3d911
this package contains the recovery, su package ( its like 4 months old but will do , or search and find the latest su package ), and odin .
all u need to do is store the su package on your card
shutdown the phone
put the phone in download mode ( hold vol down while connecting with the PC )
flash the recovery thru odin ( kinna simple - just hit PDA button yupp PDA button and give the path to the recovery file and hit ok ) dont do anything else.
also plz remove the battery before going into download mode
then once flashed put the battery back in and just press the vol up + vol down + power buttons together and you ll boot into the recovery hit the zip file flashing option and install the su packge
you are rooted.
( i have elaborated it all coz if you are a new fassy user then you might need this info - i needed it when i started )]
regards
Thanks...I'll give odin a shot. I've gory experience with rooting droids but samsung seems a little different

3. Once in download mode, load your stock rom with odin
4. after done flashing go to recovery volume up+home+power and do a factory reset / wipe cache
5. Boot to your rom, set your csc with csc selector from the market to the correct one for your rom so you receive future updates (unless you dont want to)

For your case, if you want your phone back to normal, you must take the risk. Ignore the file or your phone will stuck like that forever.
Anyway, if another member have better solution. Kindly assist.(coz, I still new on this forum).

Youd need to flash a temp cwm then a custom kernel which contains permanent cwm.

great! so here's what I'm planning to do:
1. I'll flash this temporary cwm: http://www.mobilephonetalk.com/showthread.php?141995-CWM-Recovery-v6-0-1-1-For-SGS-2-Root-Method
2. then I'll install CM 10.1.
am I right?
I never read your 1st post properly, was thinking you didnt want to use a pc,and your on GB.
If your using a pc,you can flash siyah2.6.14 using odin which will give you root and CWM.
Youll need to see what the install instructions are for the rom you want in your other posr, whether you need ICS 1st or straight from GB.
Oh yeah I forgot to include that to my post. Yup. I don't want to use my pc. So, will it work?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
What does the rom install instructions say;do you have to be on ICS or GB or what.
And I wouldnt recommend not using a pc.If you get a bootloop or cant boot, you can lose recovery/cwm and the only way out of that is using a pc.
Its best to get a pc setup so you can hook your phone up to it in case of emergency.
You can use mobile odin later if you dont want to use a pc(once your rooted) and/or cwm.

The only requirement for cm10.1 is to have cwm. And I say a post saying cm10.1 can be flashed directly to gb provided that it should have a cwm because cm don't need an ics bootloader.
Ps: my phone is not yet rooted.
And yeah, thanks a lot!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Believe it or not,Ive never seen anyone or anything saying that an s2 running GB can be rooted/get cwm without using a pc.
All the advice says to use a pc or update to ICS then use recovery.
Can you not access a pc for this and the reasons I mentioned earlier. And Im away to chuck out an xp laptop that works ok with Odin.

You have stock recovery, you need to Flash a custom one like clockworkmod to be able to take nandroid backups and flash roms.
If you are on cwm, then just choose the install zip from sd card option and browse for your zip..

if you boot your device into recovery mode (power + volume up), does it say CWM recovery 5.x.x.x?
if it does, then you have a custom kernel.
if not, flash a custom kernel. use rj's kernel if you have a physical home button or entropy's kernel if you have a capacitative home button.
If you really want to see a drastic difference difference, try cm 10 or ParanoidAndroid.

To flash any of these roms, just copy the appropriate zip to your internal storage and reboot into recovery.
Then:
1. Wipe Data/Factory reset
2. Wipe Cache
3. Advanced > Wipe Dalvik Cache
4. Install zip > from internal sd card
5. wait and enjoy.
Also, i would highly recommend you check out http://xda-university.com

Will less start with some specs...
What is the exact version of recovery.
What is the exact build date and version of ROM you have and ROM you want to run.
And the exact phone model you have.
Feel free to include a:: settings, about phone, screenshot with that info as well as include what is written under the battery of:: model and:: sku
Then what is type and class speed of the micro sd card.
.
OK the model is sch i500. I'll have to get my Bros phone and check the other stuff as I'm not sure. The SD card is class 4 sandisk 8 GB. The ROM was cm10.1 (I'll check the build datelater and post don't know at the moment but I think it was stable) and I was going to flash him slim bean. I need to check cwm version and then I'll post back. Thanks for responding. Anyways I'm pretty sure its a cwm problem because the cwm I had installed first worked fine but when I updated it it stopped workimg. The problem is when I try to flash a different recovery it gives same can't mount anything issue. So can i just flash it with Odin or something? I'm not too familiar with that as I'm used to flaahtool. Anyways I'll provide the rest of the info later when I can get w screenshot of his phone

Hi, it might be easier using twrp recovery, to flash that you can go to twrp website, download the recovery image for your phone then download flashify from the play store, and use that to flash the recovery image( you should have a file explorer or root browser lite)
Once you flash that and are in recovery wipe cache, davlik, data and system then flash the rom and gapps............make a backup before wiping and flashing a new rom!
