Has anyone tried CWM on Verizon gs4 MK2 yet?
Looks like Cyanogen may be claiming a nightly mod ready at this link - http://wccftech.com/install-cm11-nightly-android-4-4-on-verizon-galaxy-s4/
I'm currently rooted and have safestrap recovery (thanks Hashcode!).
Would like to load this mod but want to know if anyone has done this with safestrap in a ROM slot yet. Or if CWM is required and if it works with VRUEMK2.
Looking for a good step by step as still very much a noob.
Thanks

i see in your signature that youre running hyperdrive on mk2... where did you download your kernal module?
This (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2441441) says its not available yet.

please take some time and read some threads in this forum.....this question has been asked countless times and been answered countless times. There is no custom recovery available for users with phones above mdk base and the only option is safestrap
no CM or ASOP based ROMS will run with safestrap

I tried the MD5 verification upon install and it fails, only goes through when you uncheck it. I kind of thought the verification could be the problem. Do you have a link or website I can get HD 12 with a valid MD5 file?

Not tied to install...The md5 needs to be checked on the downloaded file...downloading can corrupt large files and u need to run a md5 checker on it. The md5 checksum is posted at the file hosting site u dloaded from.

I am having a problem getting with my MD5 number matching so I can't flash to anything. MD5#d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e Is what my phone shows as my MD5#. Which i was told meant a bad download that i flashed via Odin a long time ago. Build#JDQ39.I545VRUAMDK , Baseband I545VRUAME7, Kernel 3.4.0-562219
Problems stuck with a reqtangle in the middle of my screen that never goes away even in the app draw(as seen in screen shots). No apps to sd function as I am back on MDK. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks in advance for any and all help.

you have fixed one of the problems wooo hooo. What is your take on the other? my MD5 being a bad #? Is doing a odin flash to back to factory MDK before root my only option? Thanks again Ryno77!!! I would thank you but i can only thank 8 people a day so I will hit the thanks button at 12 lol. Hopefully you got good news for my MD5 being jacked up. I don't even have apps to sd anymore. But I don't have a brick positive!!

Okay, I just installed hash DROID to see what you were doing. After starting the app select hash a file then navigate to where you saved the file on your Sdcard then select calculate hash. It will then run for a minute while it calculates.
My result:

My MD5 is from straight off my phone on Andys ME7 Rom. It appears i had a bad download when i flashed it and now my MD5# is jacked up. i am on mdk build as shown in the pics with loki and don't have recovery at this point(and cant make one). So i was gonna Odin back to orig MDK image and reroot and make a recovery again. Hopefully my MD5# will match than and I can get some of Old&Slow's rom goodness. I downloaded the stock MDK image and I put in odin mode and and use pda on it to flash this correct? And Phone for Modems? Sorry used to HTC Learning Samsung. Just want to make sure I do this right. Does everyone prefer CWM for recovery? Thanks looking forward to getting this done Thanks to all of you my phone is atleast working
I got it back to stock MDK build and firmware. It didn't wipe any of my data. I tried running motochopper exploit next and it just keeps saying waiting for Device. I have all the stuff that needs to be checked in Development and security but still nothing. I Odin'd the previous Kernel 2 times to make sure and tried again. Still can't get past Motochopper. I checked to see if I still had root and it says no. But yet if you use check the md5# it gives you that same one I had before. Any ideas?
Recently flashed the RLS12 Safestrap rom for my GS4, Verizon on MK2. The flashing and install seemed to go smoothly, wiped etc with no problems. Ran through the aroma installer, again, no issues. Flashed the MK2 verizon modules and rebooted. The bios boot sequence came up (pretty sweet BTW) and all seems fine. However, it stops at "Beginning Android Boot sequence" and won't go any further. I've heard rumors of this first boot taking upwards of 10 minutes, but I've tried this 3 times now and let it sit for as long as 35 minutes without any results.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!

Im having the same issue and I even flashed MJ7 and tried to flash it too. I don't even get to the boot screen I have a black screen but a flawless install up to the reboot. I have flashed plenty of hyperdrive with the correct modules I even tried different versions of hyperdrive. The OP stated compatibility with everything up too MJ7 that's why I went back to MJ7 still no joy when I as originally on MK2.

I had that problem and I got fixed by downloading the right file.
You need to download the RLS12 Safestrap Rom not the regular RLS12.
The regular one is for MDK TWRP recovery rom so it doesn't boot.

You delete ROM slots from within SafeStrap. Just activate your stock slot, then go over to whatever slots you have and I usually formatted and then deleted them. Fairly simple. Then try creating a new ROM slot and reflash the ROM and modules.

UPDATE: Hey buddy - I got it fixed yesterday. It's amazing how much you learn by making mistakes. My first mistake was, as mentioned in an earlier post, I got trigger happy and flashed to my stock rom slot instead of setting up a custom slot (stupid me). Looking back, I can't believe I did that. My second mistake was trying to reflash the incorrect stock rom file using Odin. I finally got the correct one from SamMobile.
Anyone having trouble on galaxy phones should check out rootjunky's youtube posts. He's great!! You have to be careful though because he jumps around on different builds. My only question now is whether or not Hyperdrive is compatible with the MK2. Everything I see is for the MDK and others. Is the build number critical or is it more critical to have the compatible recovery or both? I thought I would ask before I try flashing this rom again. Also, any suggestions on compatible MK2 roms would be great. I'm having trouble finding any.
Thanks,
BC

It's really the most complete and helpful site I think for our phones.
Just remember that since you're on MK2 4.3 that whatever SafeStrap rom you flash must also be based off 4.3 as well, and you will also have to flash MK2 modules zip file as well.
And I'd also like to say for the record since were here.... You're most likely going to want to hold off on the KitKat update from Verizon until there are proven and reliable root methods and SafeStrap is available. .. that is if you want to keep flashing ROMs.
Just my two cents lol

questions should be posted in Q&A forum
Most likely you didn't load the kernel module after installing hyperdrive, this is discussed extensively in safestrap and hyperdrive threads
Those modules are in the Safestrap thread, just don't leave SS without flashing those 1st. You should be good

And: if you're one of those people who don't notice the "VERIZON" in the title of this forum, and don't have a Verizon phone, well, you can't use the VERIZON modules to flash a T-Mobile, ATT, Sprint phone.
If you're not on a Verizon SCH-i545, doing things that you read in these forums for the SCH-i545 is like trying to install Windows on a Mac. Yeah, they're both Intel CPUs, but not compatible. The ATT/Sprint/T-Mo phones are NOT the same hardware as the VZ phone.
Sadly, repeating this once again:
To install the modules, use Safestrap to boot your stock ROM. Copy the two files from /system/lib/modules to your external SD card. Boot the Safestrap custom ROM, then copy those files from the external SD card into /system/lib/modules and reboot the custom ROM.

'm running Eclipse build 7 on a Developer Edition S4. I recommend you go to the developer's website and check out the threads on Build 7 by other SafeStrap users. Go here:http://www.elementalxdesigns.com/eclipse/forumdisplay.php?55-Galaxy-S-IV

It seems im the only one with this problem. In the installer I do full wipe and no kernel option and reboot when done. How did you get it to work

Well first off, I'm not using SafeStrap. I have a Developer edition S4 so I have an unlocked bootloader and don't need SafeStrap. Have you visited the Dev's website. There are a lot of threads from SafeStrap users about installing build 7. If you haven't gone to that site you should...you might find the resolution to your problem. If I remember rightly there were other SafeStrap users who had the same problem as you and found a work-around. There is also an issue downloading and installing paid apps from Play Store, but there is a fix for that also in those threads. Check it out if you haven't already.

I've just read the last few pages in the forum that bamige1 pointed you to. Eclipse 7 does indeed work on MK2 with Safestrap.
Since lots of people apparently have it working, the likely suspect is a bad download. Did you check the MD5 hash after download to verify that it was correct?
Re-downloading is probably worth trying.

At this point, it's past time for you to involve the ROM developer. Since nobody using Eclipse has posted here, you'll need to reach out to those that are successfully using it.

Hey all. Just switched back to Droid after being with iPhone for a few years. I've rooted my s4 but don't believe I'm able to install custom roms based on the build. I've attached a screen of my about page. Any advice greatly appreciated.

With the MK2 build you can only use safestrap as your custom recovery and your limited on what custom roms you can use. I'm on the MK2 build as well and personally I like the stock rom with the tether mod.

Okay Buddy with the MK2 builld you can only use TW based roms no ASOP/Cyanogenmod.
1.) To root u must use saferoot here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758
2.) Then you must install Safestrap 3.71 Hashcode has a thread about ithere: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2441441
3.) After doing that you want to look on this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2630040
decarturbob has compiled a list of MK2 Safestrap Compatible roms.
Hope this helps buddy. Make sure you read the threads carefully and follow each step. My current fav roms are the TW(ASOP themed roms):fingers-crossed:
Thank you all for the help. Really appreciate it.
To add to my question, after rooting, running the stock ROM, can I turn off OTA updates? I keep getting an annoying notification to update.

Using Titanium Backup, you can "freeze" applications, which keeps them from running. The software update application is called SDM.
So, open Titanium, search for "SDM", the click on "Freeze!". It won't run any longer.

Thanks.
I have installed safestrap and downloaded the module for the MK2 build. It then says to flash the modules file..how do I do that if I cant boot into recovery mode? I assume this is why safestrap is telling me I'm not rooted.

You flash the modules file AFTER you flash a custom ROM into a ROM slot. How did you manage to flash into a ROM slot if you can't get into Safestrap recovery?
If installing Safestrap fails and tells you you're not rooted, then either you're not rooted, or you still have Knox enabled. You'll need to be rooted before you can do any of this, so start there. See the Saferoot thread.
