[Q] XT912 4.1.2 to 4.0.4 - is it possible? - Motorola Droid RAZR

Hi all! I have a question.
Is it possible to downgrade from 4.1.2 to 4.0.4 with no problems?
System version: 98.72.16.XT912.Verizon.en.US
Kernel version: 3.0.8-gbacb1cf [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Feb 1 20:59:31 CST 2013.
Build number: 9.8.2O-72_VZW-16
Rooted
Bootloader: Locked
Or i can flash any custom ROM using BMM or SS without downgrading and having any problems? I've read, that flashing another ROM with another kernel will cause some trouble.
And how to unlock bootloader?
Sorry if there was a similar thread!

Well, unlock boooader is not possible on this device. If you already flashed JB.xml via RSD Lite were isn't any downgrade sollution to ICS. You can flash Custom ROM via BMM without problems. Your ROM still can be JB, no need of downgrade to ICS. These ROMs seems to be so far stable for me.

Thank you! Now i can breath easy.

Oh, sorry, i have one more question.
Can i flash custom kernel on this stock ROM?
Or i can flash it on custom ROM installed via BMM or SS?

I flashed and rooted Jelly Bean on my droid razr, that came with ICS, using DROID_RAZR_Utility_Jellybean_XT912_WinMacLin.zip. The Jelly Bean 4g and Wifi Radios are terrible compared to the Ice Cream Sandwich radios. So, I want to go back to ICS. Is this possible? Google gives kind of vague answers. If not, could you recommend JB custom roms with a good 4g radio? My phone is my only source of my internet.

There's only one custom kernel,JBX, available for RAZRs (AFAIK), and it is not compatible with stock ROM. You need a kexec based ROM for JBX kernel.
The latest configuration at present is KitKat ROM+JBX.

Plain answer, No, you Cannot downgrade. As for the custom ROMs, they've been working very good with LTE. You can try the CM 10.2.1 stable if you want to stick with JB.

[Q] Possible or not to install rom higher than 2.3 with out unlock bootloader?

I am new user of motorola. I follow guide line to unlock gsm on 2.3.5 it's work fine. I need to install higher rom but I not sure if I flash ICS or JB rom by CWM but still on old kernel this thing possible?
The kernel is part of the ROM, so flash away with any of the newer ICS or JB ROMs. You might be thinking of the radio.

If you are on the sprint 2.3.5, you can only use the 2.3.5 roms with bootstrap. You will soft brick your phone flashing unlocked roms with bootstrap.

Thank you for any reply. I hope KEXEC project for photon will solve my problem.

Take the OTA or stay on 4.1.1 for unlock/root?

Hi all, thanks for having such a helpful support forum. I just picked up a new Note 2 and it is on FW 4.1.1. I want to unlock and root/ROM and was wondering about the recommended sequence.
Should I first use Casual to unlock, or should I take the OTA (which I believe updates the bootloader) then unlock? Is there any benefit or detriment to using one way or the other? Thanks for any help.

Over in origional dev section adam has the new root, jailbreak, recovery for the new 4.1.2 ota. So if you want stock 4.1.2 with root and all that you would be safe to take the ota on stock then run CASUAL. I beleive either way your reallywanting 4.1.2 unlocked so you can have custom roms and ive seen some of the roms being updated for the vramc3 base anyhow. So if want you could run casual now with 4.1.1 that you have (you just picked it up so im assuming its all stock) and flash a cust9m rom that has 4.1.2 already implimented. cheak out the rooting/custom rom guide and the jailbreak thread and decide. In the end both paths will lead to the same place.
Just root/unlock 4.1.1 and flash a 4.1.2 VRAMC3 rom of choice in recovery...
Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. I thought it might be six of one half dozen of the other, but after recently going through OTA he11 on the DNA I'm really leery of any updates.

Yes, it was 4.1.1 stock. I took your advice and unlocked/rooted in 4.1.1. What is the difference in having a base of vrall4 vs. vramc3? I flashed Jelly Beans and am showing 4.1.2 on vrall4. If I went to a different ROM based on vramc3,would it cause any issues? Thanks for the help and sorry for the n00b questions or if they've been answered a lot, I haven't modded Samsung in a while.

Many sites have a change log of all the changes that vramc3 brings to the Note 2. I flashed a stock vramc3 ROM that VZW pushed OTA. The only difference is that the Jelly Beans developer (beanstown106) rooted it, replaced the secure bootloader and made it flashable. So I've basically accepted the OTA but I'm still rooted and unlocked.

Here's what I did: Stock 4.1.1 VRALL4 -> Unlocked/rooted with Casual --> Flashed Jelly Beans build 16
Now in my "About Phone" setup, i have this: Android version 4.1.2; Baseband version I605VRALL4; Build number JZO54K.I605VRAMC3
The build flashed just fine and it appears I'm on VRAMC3. However the baseband remains at VRALL4, I assume because JBeans doesn't update the baseband. Is there any reason to care about the "mismatch" between the baseband and the build? Should I go through the work to update the baseband, and if so what is the best method? I've been looking around the net and have found a bunch of conflicting answers to this question, so hopefully someone can straighten things out regarding the Note 2 specifically.
Thanks for the discussion.
Baseband is the modem. Just download and flash the zip.

If you look at post #2 in the beans thread, there is a link to the new radio. Flash that and you will be completely up to date.

[Q]: request for help in flashing a seemingly locked kernel

Hello,
I am quite new to the forum although I have some experience in modding my mobile, so I hope I am posting in the right section.
I had ICS on my XT910, then I installed BMM on my XT910 and a ROM named "Muscle China" that brought along a JB China kernel (which allows flawless phone call recording), a new radio and very interesting features with Andoird 4.1.2 version.
While updating an installation on Slot2 I deleted the "system" partition on Slot1 by mistake.
I was in a hurry and I needed to have my phone functioning ASAP. So I used a method to "unbrick" the RAZR that worked but installed the stock 982.124.14.XT910.Retail.en.EU
Now it seems that this JB EU is locked and does not allow you to install other "unlocked" kernels.
In fact when I tried to reinstall the JB China kernel and I enter in AP Fastboot, I connect the RAZR to the PC and I input:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
what I get is:
writing 'boot'...
(bootloader) Preflash validation failure
FAILED (remote:... )
finished. total time: 0.613s
My system info are:
System version: 982.124.14.XT910.Retail.en.EU
Base band: U_04.10.00R
Webtop version: wt-3.0.0
Kernel: 3.0.8-g7198280 [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Feb 28 01:30:46 CST 2013
APFlex: GAS_EMEA_USASPDRJBRTGB_P011 GAS_EMEA_USASPDRJBRTGB_A012
Build: 9.8.2O-124_SPUEM-14
Can someone advise me something to do or give a help in order to substitute this kernel with another one?
Thanks!
The CG version of your device has changed. You cannot flash any older(lower CG) kernel or ROM. That is also the reason you cannot downgrade once you flashed an update.

Thank you for your reply.
Is there any way to "trick" the device and make it believe I am flashing a newer kernel or ROM?

No there isn't. Though you can flash any kexec ROM and then jbx kernel. Other than that nothing can be done.

[Q] Need Help Switching ROMs (HELP WANTED)

Phone: Droid Razr XT912 CDMA spyder
Current Custom Rom: Avatar Rom
Android Version on Custom Rom: 4.2.2
Kernel Version on Custom Rom: 3.0.8
Stock Rom Version: 4.1.2
Stock Kernel Version: 3.0.8
Current SafeStrap version: 3.11
I am trying to switch to [ROM] UnOfficial MIUIv5 Droid Razr xt912 CDMA 4.2.2 but do not quite know how?? The requirements for the ROM are what is causing me the hassle. MIUIv5 only works with kernel 3.0.8 and Jelly Bean 4.1.2 or 4.2.2, and can only be flashed using Safe Strap 3.65.
Do I have to completely unroot my phone and activate stock rom again and root again then re-download new version of safestrap then flash the desired rom, or is there an easier way? Plz help I am new to changing roms, walk me through the easiest way to go from Avatar Rom to MIUIv5.
No need to unroot or anythin.
Update your safestrap.
Delete and re-create the rom-slot.(MIUI works only in slot 1)
Wipe the slot,
Flash the ROM.

Thanks a ton for your help. One question, are you currently using MIUI v5? If you are, would you classify it as being stable? If not what are the some of the major issues that I should be aware of? Sorry for asking so much questions I just really want to sure myself that it is worth the switch. Thanks again for your help! Much Love! :good:

I used MIUI v5, and its stable as hell. All apps work and no random reboots. One of the best(if not the best) ROM on the Razr. Only issue i had that it ran a bit slow. Apps take marginally longer to open. Though i did not try JBX.

I'm using it at present in slot1
Its the most stable one for me. Everything works smoothly. The RAM usage is a little high, so you might need to freeze some system apps.
Overall, I'd totally recommended it.
