Hi People,
I recently rooted my phone and things were good for 3 days until I screwed up, I installed "Disable service" app and I froze a service called "SIM Toolkit -stkapservice" and after restarting the phone is not bootling up, the boot logo appears again and again..
I'm not sure if disabling that service cause that, I have been disabling some others as well like qcconnectivity service, wiper app, smartcard service, picoservice, geocode service
Could someone please help me what to do ASAP? Should i flash it again? is so all my user data will be deleted again right?
Is there any way without deleting user data and settings? I've been hearing words like CWM, wipe dalvik cache etc but im not an experienced user, I just rooted and messed up my phone..
Could someone please advise me how to fix it?
what do you mean user data? pictures?
or saved logins & settings?
if you do wipe to cache it will remove your settings, not your personal files.

Yes I meant my logins,installed apps etc..is there a way to backup those settings also ?

Well, only if you had clockworkmod recovery, but if you don't have a custom recovery installed then no. A custom recovery would allow you to backup the full data partition, but OEM (stock) recovery doesn't.
Your only option is to do a full factory data reset I'm afraid. Also wipe the cache.

Ok thanks for your reply, I have flashed my device again by wiping out everything and now it booted to stock, the next step im about to install CWM recovery by following a online guide,
So after i install that whats next? how do i take my full data partition as you said? Can you pls tell me how or share some guides if possible?

To make a full backup is easy once you have cwm. Also, make sure you flash the cwm image made for YOUR device! Other images for different phones aren't going to work on yours! It will hard brick your device!

My question is what the usefull solution for backup and restore the rom? CWM backup / restore seems not really working well. Xda and custom rom's dev always remind to make a backup, but when u face a problem after flashing rom, you cannot access CWM if you got bootloop, then how to restore? And if you dont like the custom rom that you just flashed for some reason, you might want to restore back to your 'fav' rom.. but unfortunately it's not work as you thought. Sometimes restore failed. Im looking the solution for this..
-restore / backup anywhere without using pc.
-not reflash the rom, this will need to customize it again.. Hassle.
-any android app or android system ability to handle this. If CWM can handle this, then tell me how to restore when u got bootloop and cannot access the recovery mod.
-if there's any other app or method, please suggest them to me.

When ever Ive made a backup Ive always booted to recovery,"backup and restore" and then "backup".That gives me a full Nandroid backup.As far as the bootloop goes Ive never had a problem to boot to recovery with the 3 button combo.If the 3 button combo works,and its never failed for me then select "backup and restore","restore".Ive also read that reflashing your kernel can solve the problem.I know a simple factory reset can,but not always.
nandroid backup is the best
You can always restore the rom when you can access the recovery mod. If you are a flasholic, you cant escape from bootloop and no recovery mod. My odin binary counter now up to 539.. Nandroid backup sometimes got problem.. Let say i made a backup a checkrom, the i flashed miui, suddenly miui got problem, and i get into recoverymod to restore back my checkrom.. When u done restoring, you will be in checkrom but this time its got many problems. Flashing compatible kernel will not solve the problem. The only solution fot me is to reflash it again.
Im not looking for this way, reflash the rom is hassle, sometimes u got bootloop and cant access recovery, then u need to get back home to use computer with odin to flash only kernel.
What else backup method other than nandroid backup.

Normally when I flash a ROM over top of another and I know,from other threads,that they are not compatable in terms of insalation and basic use(FCs)then I always do a full wipe (format system/data/cache,battery stats and fact. reset) prior to instalation.With Titanium it only takes a few minutes to reinstall my apps and during instalation there is no conflicting data between the old and new ROM which would cause a major failer to occur.Thats why if something happens the 3 button combo always works cos nothing major has happened.A factory reset and Im done,althought very rare and the nandroid backup is still in the SD if needed.The problem is when there is to many ROMs cluttering the devices system.Ive read that flashing over top of CM7,Lightning and Miui can sometimes be problamatic.

Ahaaa! Your description attract me, i think you're right, base on the way you explained about full wipe does make sense to me. The real interpretation of 'full wipe' is including formatting the system?
Maybe I'm doing it wrong here, flashing another rom on top of another. What usually i did is 'full wipe'... This is my step :
1 - clear data/factory reset
2 - clear cache
3 - advance > clear dalvik cache
4 - flash new rom
This is what i did, i didn't format anything as you mentioned above. Is your full wipe method lead to 'fresh install'? Well buddy, could you please note down your full wipe method step by step including format the system? Which step should i do 1st and what step next? Could you?

Cool.The thing is not all ROMs are compatablie and therefore can cause problems between each other.Your phone holds data from the previous ROM and also your battery collects info and data from each ROM.All this data and info if not cleaned up (and if from various non-compatablie ROMs) will most likely always result in problems.A full wipe,that I will write below is like installing your ROM on a completely clean devive.First of all a nandroid and titanium backup which i explained ealier,I think?
1.Pass the new ROM to internal-SD
2.boot to recovery and wipe cache partition,dalvik cache,battery stats(go back)
3.select "mounts and storage"
4.format cache,system and data (go back)
5.now wipe data/factory reset and your phone is now completely clean
6.now just install your ROM from the internal-SD as normal and I also do another factory reset to avoid possible bootloops and reboot device but if you get one pull the battery or use the 3 button combo to do one.
this full wipe will clean up all system data but will not touch your SD card so your titanium and nandroid backups will not be touched if you should choose to use them.Once I reinstall all my apps again with titanium its a good idea to reboot to recovery and wipe cache partition and dalvik cache then reboot phone.This will help avoid market connetion problems.

I have a samsung galaxy S2 no reason to turn it off and back on I go into boot loop reaches the S and returns to the animation of the operator (Personal Argentina) I made the wipe cache partition remains the same. I need to urgently recover contacts and notes, is this possible? as? thank you very much

Have you tried factory reset? There is a chance you could lose data though.
If you dont want to lose data then go into download mode and flash the official ROM via odin this should recover your ROM and you wont lose anything
The /data partition could be corrupted already. If you really need the data try do a Nandroid backup from CWM, wipe, and dig up the data later in PC.
Still, I cannot guarantee that it will work though.

I had this too, I made factory reset and it problem was solved, maybe it can help for you too.

estimate, this phone does not turn, so I can not see the kernel version or install the nandroid. There are some generic rom to install? root was not, thank you very much
Well, I tell them I've got: I installed the ROM Unbranded from Argentina without achieving any progress, then install the kernel-CF-Root-v4.1-CWM4 SGS2_UH_MUL_KG7 without progress but I also discovered that the download menu (V +, home , power) was enabled nandroid!! thus perform a full system backup, wipe data / factory and Encendio!! Now I have to figure out how to unzip the backup on the PC nandroid to import contacts and notes mainly.

You can download the CWM zip to temporarily load CWM with the stock recovery, then do nandroid backup from there
BEWARE THOUGH, if you are on 4.0.4 and using the stock kernel, it will cause brick. If you're not in 4.0.4, or have changed the kernel (if you don't know what a kernel is, then most probably you haven't changed kernel)
-So you just can download this http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.1.5-galaxys2.zip
-Put that on your sdcard
-Flash that zip from Stock Recovery, and it will boot CWM
-Do a nandroid backup
-Mount the phone as mass storage to PC, move the nandroid to PC
-Reboot to stock recovery
-Wipe data from there

Thank you very much for your information, now everything is working, just that I find how to read the files *.img nandroid generated because attempts to restore it with the same menu nandroid from the recovery of the S2 the phone back to stay in boot loop.
Now I have discovered a wonderful application called nandroid BROWSER with which I can "walk" img files but I do not encuentr nandroid genre folders / data / data / .... where supposedly contacts and notes are stored on different routes each course. but if I found a path .//app/contacts.apk other ./app/contacts.odex but I can not open or install. will be these? not meeting the equivalent of /data/data/com.sec.android.app.memo/files. Thanks

KcLKcL, thanks for your information, unfortunately I could not retrieve the information most important to that team who were the contacts and notes. I returned my computer because I use a lot for work, but not before teaching synchronize with KIES to have backup of all your information. A hug and thank you very much for the help.

Hi Obagleyfreer - sorry for being a total noob, but bewildered by the amount of data out their and having followed a load of threads related to my issue and not getting far, I turn to your seniority for support.
My galaxy s2 is stuck in a recurring error-message loop on startup leaving the phone (im pretty sure) innacessible. I can open download and reset modes though. about 20% of my dissertation data exists as photos on the phone hard-drive, and my thoughts are I might be able to recover it via rooting the phone (it currently is running gingerbread). Unfortunately the computer doesnt recognize the device when it is plugged in. You mention flashing odin - can this be done via 'update from SD' in the reset menu? I was under the impression I had to download CWM from the appstore before I could root and flash a rom, which I cant do.
I could provide many details (such as it being in airplane mode preventing me from installing apps on the phone from my pc) but i wont bore you with details if you cant help. but if you can I'd really appreciate it!

I'm having a very strange issue with my i9300 today. I left it charging switched off overnight, and when I tried to switch it back on, it hangs on the Samsung bootscreen. I thought it was odd, but solvable. I went into recovery to try and reflash with the backup I have stored on my sdcard, however when it tried to wipe /Data, it rebooted and hung on the bootscreen again.
I initally had CWM 6.0.4.4 recovery installed, however I have tried PhilZ and TWRP to no avail. All three reboot on flashing /Data.
Anyone have any ideas?
For information, I was running 4.4 KitKat Unofficial. If you need any more information (preferably what can be pulled in Recovery/Download), I'll be happy to post it.
I need my phone running back normally ASAP!
Hi just a little confused..When you say all three reboot on flashing data do you mean data from your backup? If so your backup might be corrupt have you tried doing a clean flash with another rom or tried returning to stock?..Also if you don't want to lose data stored on your backup you can try flashing the original rom that you where on when you made the backup then using philz recovery in advanced settings/ restore you can then just restore data from your backup not the whole rom...And try formatting data system and cache but don't forget this will leave you without a rom so have one ready to install on your sd card....Hope all that makes sense

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I was trying to Format the /Data partition in recovery in preparation to restore the backup, and every time a Recovery attempts to Format the partition the phone reboots.
I understand now thanks..Mmm..If you can't format data I would probably just flash stock again with Odin get your phone stable, then try to restore your backup...

Bleh. Returning to stock didn't work. It went past the bootscreen to the green android loading bar screen, went part way then rebooted, and stuck on boot again. >.>

You now have to go to recovery and wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache and reboot. It'll most probably work.

I think I'm resigned to the fact I'm going to have to replace this. Most likely with a Nexus 5. Oh well. That sets back some of my luxury spending for the month again.

Are you even flashing the correct ROM for your device with the correct model number? If yes, redownload the ROM. It could be a bad download. This time try the latest 4.3 Jelly Bean.
I have an International Samsung galaxy S3 (GT0I9300) which is about 2 years old.

I followed all the steps correctly. All went fine until the red android came up on my phone. Then after all the process was completed, odin also showed done! But, my phone did not bootup. It is looping in the Samsung logo bootup screen.
I tried all possible methods to turn on the phone, but it still stays in the boot screen itself.
Also my phone is not going to recovery mode when i press <VolUp>+<Home>+<Power button> so that i can wipe cache data, instead it just displays the android recovery logo for a second and reboots again and loops in Samsung logo screen.
I have very valuable data stored in the phone which is not backed up!!
This phone is my daily driver, so I would require some urgent help regarding this...
Please, give me a solution to make my phone work normally as before and also help to root it if possible without any hassle!!

Couple of things you could try (1) flash a stock rom with odin this should restore your phone but you will lose your data (2) flash a custom recovery with Odin either Cwm,PhilZ, or Twrp when finished flashing you can boot into recovery and wipe cache etc.

Then as you mentioned I also tried backing up from backup/restore option.
The cache is wiped properly.
When i tired backing up, i saw two or three lines of message log from CWM and then device just boots up and is stuck at Samsung logo boot screen itself again.
Any other solutions?

Looks like the root didn't take if I where you I would flash stock rom with Odin from Samfirmware (factory reset after flash) you will lose your data but you will have to put that down to experience.:fingers-crossed:

Why didn't the root work?? I thought the root worked as CWM requires root permission right?
Is there any other way to just bootup my device without having to flash a new ROM?? What is the reason for the root access to be denied? Can it never be rooted?
PS: Because I don't wanna lose any data. I had about 250-300 apps which I have been using and had saved a lot of info in them.

Yes you can boot to cwm again and wipe data cache etc but like I said all options now involve loosing your data.Plus this is not guaranteed to work depending on what whent wrong with your cf Auto -Root flash.That is why I suggested flashing back to stock with Odin this will return your phone to how it was before it was messed up (minus your data of course).

Yes you can boot to cwm again and wipe data cache etc but like I said all options now involve loosing your data.Plus this is not guaranteed to work depending on what whent wrong with your cf Auto -Root flash.That is why I suggested flashing back to stock with Odin this will return your phone to how it was before it was messed up (minus your data of course).

Is flashing a custom Rom same as flashing the stock Rom?

Sorry just saw your question about cwm requiring root..No Cwm or any custom recovery does not reqire root, recovery is a separate partition root is acquired through your rom. Technically you can flash a custom recovery and a custom rom without root because root is included in all custom roms.You need root to access system files that is why cwm failed to backup your data because it needs access to your system which it cannot have without root.Stock roms don't have root built in that is why you need to root them to access system files unlike custom roms which like I said have root built in to them

So I guess I'll be flashing a custom rom with kitkat as I'll be losing the data anyways.
All the data in external sd will be intact right?

Yes ext sd will be fine this is where you will need to put your custom Rom anyway to flash it.Please read all the guides in the stickies before you start to make sure you know what you are doing.Also read the stickies about backing up your efs (VERY IMPORTANT) because if you don't back it up then you may have major problems later if you run into problems.

Anyways, I'll wait a few more days and try to figure out a way to restore my existing stock rom to work.
If not there is no other choice left but to flash a new one...
Is there any way to root my phone again and try backing up the data?? Will it work?
Or is there any working recovery software so that i can create an image of the memory?

I have a 2 year old Samsung GT-S5282 i just rooted a month ago, by installing CWM 6.0.3.7 and flashing SuperSU 2.07 in it.
I've installed a few root apps that "boosts" the phone's performance.
But a month later i tried rebooting the phone, it passes the boot logo, then it comes across a dialog saying "process system is not responding, do you want to close it?"
I pressed "wait", but then the system crashes and the screen turns off. I tried consecutive battery pulls, wiping cache partition, but no luck, it still crashes on the dialogue screen.
I reckon it's on the kernel, but i'm STILL not sure what is going on.
Can anybody suggest a fix? I really need this phone and i don't want to lose any data.
(I've backed up my personal files, i meant i don't want to lose any internal data that cannot be backed up)

I guess you are able to reach recovery mode. If yes, then u should connect it with computer. Try installing a custom rom (i would suggest CM11).

Um thank you so much for the suggestion.
But unfortunately when i try to boot to recovery, the stock recovery opens up, not the CWM i flashed.
I tried to flash a fix for it, but it also didn't work.
But i guess flashing a new ROM will be the last option i have, so....do flashing one delete all my data? And if so, can i restore all internal data if ever i'll back it up? Thank you SO much for replying.

Well, then try three button combo (volume-down + home + power) to boot into bootloader and flash TWRP with odin.
No, your files in internal and external storage are not deleted when you format dalvik,cache,system and data partitions.
Edit: volume-down + home + power (boot to bootloader)
volume-up + home + power (boot to recovery)

By the way what version of TWRP would work great? (I have XXANF4 stock kernel btw, i still can't access the main screen of the phone after booting up)
And if i wipe system and data partitions will it delete the settings i have on the phone (ex. WiFi connection history, Bluetooth transfer history etc.)?

I still can't access the phone. It just boots up, shows the lockscreen, then crashes and automatically reboots, then gets stuck in a bootloop.
I wanted to install a custom rom like you said but i cannot copy the rom files to the sdcard (the phone's still inaccessible).

Also, when i try to flash the TWRP 3.0.2 you sent, Odin gives me an error that the md5 is invalid.
I still don't know what the hell is going on.

Also, the reboot problem existed since i installed root apps, the system crash existed since i installed a custom launcher. (Nova to be exact). I don't know if that has connection to problem.
Can anybody help?
I can't just format this phone i have internal data and settings that i cannot delete.

Do a factory reset
Go to advance and format system and data
Then flash Stock Deodex Prerooted rom by akshay
Done
It won't delete anything
Flash cwm for star via odin
Then flash twrp via cwm
Remove ur SD card and using a card reader copy ROM file into SD card.
Mount ur SD card
Then flash the rom

I mean, it deletes all the settings right? Like WiFi hotspots and bluetooth transfer history and every app i have on my phone. I just can't wrap my head around the idea that i will delete all of that just because my phone crashes on passing through the boot screen. . .

U couldn't mention what tweaks did u installed to boost the phone and what exactly happened.
So,all I can say is 'do a factory reset'..
Just flash official firmware. The problem was automatically fixed without wiping data.

So i can just normally flash the stock firmware through Odin and Download mode and not wipe data? Is that correct?
