I had been trying to find out what type of port the Viewsonic G Tablets docking port was and couldn't find the answer on the web. But i kept looking at it and couldnt help but see that it looked alot like the iphones charging port. So i tried a stock apple usb charging cable and to my disappointment it didn't fit. But for the sake of curiosity and frustration over not having a docking station that was easy to get in the U.S. I tried wearing down the sides of my old plastic energizer portable charger adapter for the iphone and after some work it fit. The pins even seemed to line up right with each other. My only problem is that i have no way to test if i actually works. So if anyone has and old usb iphone cable and dremel to grind down the sides like i did you can test to see if it is the iphone stock charging port customized not to fit the iphone cable. If anyone tries this please post back because i'm ordering cables to try it myself.
I will buy one Ipad cale to test.
I will buy one 30pin-HDMI adapter for Ipad to test if it is suitable for Malata Zpad..
Not sure if yo have seen the threads but there is a dock available and the same company is still working on a straight cable for hdmi out.
We will keep you guys posted on developments as you are not the only ones wanting them. Keep an eye out for docks here in the next few days.

The dock is available from some distributors in china and made for the ZPAD by Malata (I think). I got one last week and all tested well.
I'm hearing that there may be a few dock floating around here soon for quicker purchase in the US but don't know much more than that.... yet.
Hey guys, so did anyone ever get the g tablet to charge from an iphone cable?

Nope... We have all tried over and over with no luck. it's a proprietary cable that took developers a long time just to get the hdmi out

SPN5633A is Motorola's part number (18W US Power Supply). I am also looking for it. Did you have any success ?
HD dock power supply
so do i... any luck?
picked up a laptop dock without charger. What are the charger specs/ replacement? Is there a compatible generic charger available.
?
You can use one similar to the IPhone USB/AC adapter. Been using it at work and no problems. Basically any Micro USB/AC charger will work. But stay away from the AT&T adapter. I bought it and when my phone is plugged into that adapter, the touch screen is sketchy, ie acts flaky and buzzes around my head and stuff.

for the laptop dock? I think its more of a power brick adapter design, right?
You are right, didn't correctly read the original post. Ignore my suggestion.
Here you are.
I know radio shack has versatile AC transformers with interchangeable heads. Ask and they can probably assist you. Good luck,

(In case that turned out unreadable)

Hey all,
I recently got the official Samsung car dock for our phones but am having issues charging it through the cig lighter. Everytime I plug it into the phone, I blow the fuse for the lighter in my car. I've tried different plug-in sequences (like turn on the car first, then plug it in, then plug in the phone, etc.) to no avail. I've probably gone through about 3 fuses so far.
Since I have a custom stereo installed that I installed myself, I figured I borked up some wiring. However, today I tried to plug it into my wife's car (stock stereo) and immediately blew her fuse, too.
So, before I call and complain to Samsung, does anyone else have this issue? Could this have to do with a bug in CM9? (running the nightlies)
Thanks!
Sounds like something is shorting out internally on the charging dock. Do you have a multimeter? You could check continuity between the negative prongs(ones on the side of cigarette plug) and the positive prong(one on the end of the cigarette plug).

Yeah I do have one. What will I be looking for with that test? I got the multimeter for Xmas a while ago but have never really used it.

Why test?
There is no reason to test, it is 100% the dock's wiring. Just return it, I have had similar issues with other car stuff, like an xm radio dock. Just take it back, don't waste anymore time with it.
Well sure enough I did do a continuity and there is no continuity. I'll be returning it to AT&T. Here's hoping the store will exchange it for me even though I ordered it online. All I need is the cig lighter... the actual dock works perfectly

Charger
I also have the same problem as the op. In metering it, it does seem to be shorted. I haven't blown any fuses but the light on the charger goes out and it looks to be shorted. I got a replacement and it does the exact same thing. I torn the one charger apart and couldn't fine anything wrong that I understood. To get it apart I pretty much broke all of the plastic but the circuit board came out OK. I tried to use a razor blade and scribe around the joint. Just would not come apart. I tried to email Samsung and got no answer. I've just gone on and used another charger that works. It sure appears that there is a problem with a lot of them. I'd like to see it fixed but?

If you're sure it's not a short you can put in a larger fuse into your car just an increase of 5 should help you also have to think how much power the phones may be pulling and the cars not being made to charge a smart phone

OK so I have a Viewsonic Gtablet. It broke this weekend. Well the charging port broke, the little pin in the middle of the port where the AC adapter blogs is loose, it is still in there but even careful cord placement will not charge it. I have just enough battery left to wipe it clean. But I was going to try to repair it.
So one, where to find decent instructions to open it up. I figure a charging port is an easy fix and I am no stranger to a soldering iron. Secondly I was going to sell it as I just ordered a new tablet. So would anyone be interested in this for parts or repair themselves. I was going to sell it before it broke for like $120 OBO. Can't do that now.
It is right now I wish they added USB charging to the device. At least I would have a backup plan...

It is easy to pop the cover off the back of the Gtab. Here is a link to a video on how to do it.

A google search will also direct you to another site where the topic has been discussed.
Same thing happened to me: knocked it off a table while charging
Anyway, after looking into fixing the barrel connector jack I decided that it was going to be hard enough finding the part - much less getting it properly soldered onto the board, so I went a different route:
After finding the pinouts for the docking connector on the web at [*** see Note #1 ***] I went to [*** see Note #2 ***] and bought 2 connectors (in case I messed one up - the pins ARE pretty small).
I then soldered 2 wires to pins 26 (g) and 27 (+12) of a connector and cut the barrel plug off my charger and soldered the wires to the cable.
Works great.
Hope this isn't too late, but I figure in any case it might be helpful to someone in the future.

NOTES: Forum rules prhibit me from posting links, so here's how a human can find the places I would have listed
Note#1: pinouts
Google "rootzwiki Viewsonic Gtablet Dock Pins Discovered And Listed"
Note #2: The Kineteka eStore
Google "kineteka viewsonic gtab connectors"
I bought SKU# GTAB-DOCK-M-1 but the breakout board looked like an option as well
