Note 3 ROMS - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I've noticed only a few ROMS available for the Sprint Note 3. I know Sprint is always a few months behind other carriers but I do greatly prefer Sprint over all other carriers. For their political beliefs there environmental outlook and quality of service. Though... One of my favorite things to do is flash ROMS and tweak my devices. So I'm now I'm in a position where my carrier is preventing me from doing one of the things I enjoy doing. I'm wondering if the ROM developers can start porting their ROMS for SM-N900P Sprint Note 3, or is there a moderately difficult process someone can point me to so I can port them myself. I can follow directions no matter how difficult but I cannot program.

just a bit dramatic, technically they are not stopping you. the lack of roms is stopping you.
but i digress...
While I'm always for more roms, i like mine to be different enough from each other to be able to tell what i'm flashing.
i guess we could just get a bunch of very similar roms that way you could just flash a new one all day.
though i say with the ones we have, and at the rate they get updated, if yuo install them and play around with each one, by the time you were done there would be updates to the first ones to go back and start the whole series over.
that wasn't a run on sentence by the way.
porting roms is a whole can of worms...
starting with getting permissions from the original authors
to figuring out what needs to be changed to make it work.
can be painfree and simple
or can be worse than doing it from scratch.
though i have a prediction, not that i would have heard or anything, that we will see a few new roms shortly.
shhhhhhhhhhhh dont tell them i told you they wil AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Interesting did you have to do some tweaking or just flash and use. I didn't think Sprint could you other carriers ROMs.

Definitely had to tweak, had to mess with the framework

I wonder the same thing is to why we have a very small list of ROMS.

[Q] Is it even safe

I am by no means new to the rooting world, I have several android phones starting with the moto d1, d2, and an inc. After moving to the thunderbolt I am seeing people are having a lot of issues with rooting and what not else. My question is, is it even safe to root and flash ROMs at this time, or is it better to wait till the issues get worked out?
people who have issues are the ones who do not follow directions.

I'm referring to the talk of posts dedicated to people with bricked and non bricked phones, like at the top of the dev board.

VERY old news... Nobody has conclusively got to the bottom of that issue. It's currently assumed that HTC used an off-spec eMMC chip in some of the earliest devices. Those tended to fail for some reason with the use of the original GB leak radio. I'm not sure why that thread is still stickied. The other thread relating to that was unstickied like 2 months ago.
Alot of the people I've seen that did get stuck in that boot loop, which was being called bricked, was resolved by simply flashing a different radio. I heard of some people actually having bricked devices, but not many. I am fairly new to a lot of this, in comparison to many others, but I have never had a problem that wasn't caused by my own stupidity.

Nothing in life is safe. Even breathing will kill you (eventually)
However, I do think more of the newbies that are cautious than the ones that just jump into thinks without thinking or knowing why they are rooting to begin with. So good for you Mr. OP
You will Never Know
I have not rooted my Thunderbolt (yet) but its not because I am afraid I might brick it .. I prefer to read as much as I can about it before diving in head first. I dont know if its "safe" but I do know the success rate is pretty good from what I have read, if you are not the kind to take short cuts.
I say go for it. Just make sure you do your homework first. Life is too short to live with bloatware.

[Q-View]Hulu hacked to look like you are using a flyer?

I see the new version of Hulu "supports" the flyer, but not the view. Seems stupid to me, but what do I know. Anyway, is it possible to "hack" it so it shows up as if it were a flyer? Or am I asking for too much?
Leave a review on the app so the dev can see and make the adjustments. Usually tends to work out
I have. Still haven't seen anything yet. I've even emailed them, but their tech support is useless. I'm getting a stream error now on my Rezound since the update and they just recommend things I've already done.

I played with the kitchens on winmo, but nothing ever worked properly for me, so I don't think I'll be trying that. I don't feel confident enough in my limited abilities to do that. Thanks though.
I wonder if it reads the build prop, and if I does if I could just change a few things to "read" like a flyer?

Agreed. I think you and all the Dev's are doing great. Learned a lot about the phone and ODIN just from the developement going on. I appreciate all the hard work.
Agreed. This is a niche phone, and still the quality of the development here is strong, and gets better by the day.
Best to dig in and enjoy the things this phone can do as opposed to what this community lacks.
Easier to complain, I suppose.

Thank you for the post freeza, the quality of what is available now is top notch. The Note 3 is already an amazing phone, so for you guys to improve it so much is a commendable feat to say the least. I appreciate all of the devs hard work and really anyone contributing in a positive manner. I know the latest onslaught of self entitlement won't ruin it for the rest, but there had been a growing sense of it in here lately.
Even if it's not necessarily an entitlement thing people just need to respect what is currently available and be grateful for it.

When I first got this phone and came here I thought about development being slow, but then one dude pointed out that the quality of this phone from what I came from is night and day and there was a reason for there being so much development in other forums - - pretty much because the phones had a ton of issues and this one doesn't... I'm in the same boat with grandfathered unlimited data plan...honestly the mega is sick...and if you root your i527 and put setcpu on it you'll see a massive improvement. I think shayne is testing out the settings I run mine on with stock kernel. Just keep it and see how it goes. I'm a huge tinkerer and dev, working in a custom kernel for the mega and still run rooted stock that I themed with xposed and wanam, combined with max clock it's as near as a custom rom as you'd want, with all the stability and speed of a rom. If you just download xposed and wanam the amount of customizations are literally endless.

Are you running the ATT version also?
I have often wondered in my 100's of flashes I have done, is it the custom rom that is necessary, or can I get all tge tweaks I really need just by using the Xposed Module.
I do like the phone alot, but I have held off on the root until I decided to keep and I feel I have read enough about it. As Shayne knows, I can really EFF things up if I want too.
In the past with Xposed, I have had reasonable success in modding, of course it could have been me or conflicting options on phone. Does it seem to be fully functional with rooted Mega?

Not with the mega...i have a note 3 n900a att...at least for me, I still try rom, and help some of my friends develop them but I pretty much stopped doing full devs of roms since all the tweaks you'd want can be done to stock with xposed and now wanam, plus stock rom stability. I really only build kernels and flash kernels and theme or tweak my own stock builds. Always heavily themed, sometimes I do some xml or build prop alterations...but since 4.2 I've run pretty much stock with tweaks as I've found it generally faster, smoother and more stable...Especially with certain kernels. And I have to say for a stock kernel the mega has a great one, and is really streamlined and efficient in the source code.
stick with your megas fellas trust me I have several devices l around and I always go back to my mega
(Even changed my xda handle lol)
Mega
---------- Post added at 03:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:41 PM ----------
And just for the sake of clarity...everything I do, or other devs do either can be done, or is actually done thru xposed and the subsequent modules...so yes you can do everything I woukd do building you a rom in xposed, minus say deodexing or other tweak, which these days with the new krait chips is really unnecessary tbh. The chips are so powerful and efficient in the mega and the quad version of it in the note 3 don't need or show really any noticeable gains by many of the old tricks anymore. So my 2 cents on it...keep the mega, it's the best all round device I own, and by far my favorite. Run xposed, and wanam and I can almost guarantee you won't be missing a single thing.
Mega
I haven't used Xposed, but I'm pretty darn happy with the Mega stock rom. I'm running 4.4 on my captivate and my asus tf300t. The 4.4 is nice and smooth and small! I'm sure we will see a 4.4 update eventually for the mega. Google's ART feature is still very experimental, once they get that matured and implemented in their 4.4 builds, I'm sure even light weight devices will see the performance benefits.
Having root and being able to remove bloat was a big bonus for me. If I like themed roms, I would most certainly play with Xposed. The battery life on this Mega is something wonderful! Worth keeping the phone just for that reason.
Actually, after rooting and removing ATT and Samsung bloat, I am pretty happy with stock. I alternate between Nova and everything.me launchers.
Believe me, I have been a flashing addict. I have tried every rom available for my 3yo Nook Color, Captivate, Infuse, Note 1 and Nexus 7. And I have tested roms for 4 different Devs.
I find it's refreshing for everything on my phone to work without having to use a third party app (although it is boring)!!! I'm keeping my Mega, but I will probably never use ATT again, unless all the other carriers start locking their phones also.

Im in the same page here.. if rooting works for me is more than enough. I have removed all the "junk" apps and im happy with the stability of the mega and software. Yes is nice to use different roms and have options but at the end of the road as long as there are ways to "personalization" of the mega software im happy. I might miss the kernel abilities.. specially overclocking...
I appreciate the feedback folks and I am in. Stability is the key and I have experience with multiple device. Trusted advice is a valuable thing to and I beleive that is what I am getting here.
I now only need to find the trusted files and instructions on rooting this thing. I think I found them last night, around p40 in the "bounty for root" thread. However, I have always been hesitant about going into build prop and making changes. So I guess I need to read more.

Well, not what I was hoping for. But, they say that about the G5.
All I know is that Sammy makes it hard as frick to root their phones, so I'll most likely stay with HTC.
^^^^^ while I agree with sticking with HTC, what, on earth, gives you the impression it's hard to get root on Sammy devices. My experience with GNex, and all I've read, shows sammys are the easiest to root.

Bro....
My brother has the GS4 through Verizon, and there are like 6 different versions.
Rooting wasn't the issue, as I rooted it for him easily. The issue was "bootstrap", "Safestrap", "modems", and other terminology.
Not what I'm used to. He's rooted, but you cannot flash AOSP ROM'S with their locked bootloaders. You can only flash stock ROMS, and you have to use "Safestrap", which apparently makes multiple partitions and you have to keep your original stock ROM.
And then there is Loki, and Odin, whatever the hell those are. I'm guessing for unlocked bootloaders, but I haven't got that far yet.
Friend of mine from work blames Verizon, saying they try to seriously lock down their phones.

That's a Verizon thing... I have a sprint gs4 and it was ridiculously easy to root. Took me all of 2 minutes, it took longer to download the files...
Sent from my EVO using Xparent BlueTapatalk 2

Well, not what I was hoping for. But, they say that about the G5.
All I know is that Sammy makes it hard as frick to root their phones, so I'll most likely stay with HTC.

I don't know about Samsung devices (on Sprint) but I know rooting my HTC wasn't too bad, but flashing it was a different story.
I'm not sure how much Truth is in that whole story. I mean, who can be THAT foolish? If it was me, I would make sure hat my kids don't even talk about it at school. Shoot...I might not even tell them.
Furthermore, whether this is true or not, this still provides HTC with premature feedback from users who want to see what the M8 will look like. While it is too late for them to make physical changes to the phone, at least they can try to make a few software changes to the phone. For example, I'm sure that someone is going to criticize the camera app. Based on the general consensus, they can make the needed modifications. This video has brought much attention to HTC, whether negative or positive, and there's nothing that good ol' Sammy can do about it.
Did I mention that this is FREE advertising? That's something that HTC never did very well with, and funding has a lot to do with it. I'm not saying that this story can't be true, but I certainly feel that there are more factors at play under the hood.
And to add to those who have said that Samsung is difficult to root, I beg to differ. Once I downloaded the correct files to the computer, it took me 2mins to root my wife's GS3 with an auto root tool. I had to do a lot more work to root my EVO. Mind you, I'm not saying that my EVO was difficult to rllt, but i also had to obtain S-Off in a separate process. You just have to root a Samsung and you're good to go.

They didn't, he made that up along with the other lies on his twitter after the video was traced back to him. His father works for a company that does soil testing (http://tsccorp.com) and his mother is a school teacher. I doubt that either would have access to the phone through their work.

I don't know who he got it from, but it wasn't one of his parents. Could be another relative, friend's parent, etc.
