So the NA launch is soon upon us and can't wait to get the SGS3. However besides additional sdcard storage is there anything else between the different size models? Such as the internal storage?
I'm guessing it's partitions on the 16GB one is the same setup as the S2 but would getting the 32GB model give me more internal as well as sd? Or would it just be sd only and cheaper to buy an ext. sdcard?
I'm curious because with all the partitions and chopping of the sdcard down into different sections as well as the SGS3 being bigger in rom size and thus bigger nandroid backups what's best? I know it's cheaper to buy a separate card for plain storage but technically speaking would it just be easier to have a bigger card built into the phone in the first place?

The only difference is the amount of memory. Nothing else. As far as your apps storage goes, it's as much as you have left on the phone... so if you have 10gb left... you can install 10gb apps.
Identical phone, more storage, so if you want your Apps on internal memory then go for 32gb or just the 16gb and keep Apps internal and media external if you use that much.

I'm guessing the 16GB model has 2GBs of internal for apps etc so the 32GB has 4? Or is it the same? Can anyone confirm? This is mainly what I'm wondering

Ah I see so samsung changed their partitions with the SGS3 over how they did it on the S2? You get 12.3 GBs left on the S2 for sdcard and a separate 2GBs for internal? So if the S3 has 11 total where is our missing space? 16 to 11?

I won't go into the details (there are enough technical description on WHY) bu you loose roughly 7-10% of storage due to the filesystem.
Let's say it was a nice round 10%; you'd have 14.54GB left on the device.
Now substract the 1GB partition of the system, 1GB partition of the cache and 400MB of the secure storage.
You're now down to 12. With the additional partitions such as recovery, the binary counter location, ... you're down to a nice round 11.

Thanks, no worries on the tech details I know this already, I just wasn't getting any direct answer about the internal storage section, bortak came off like he only was talking about the SD card storage. Thanks for the info, glad Samsung made the switch to just having all the apps on the whole of the remaining sd card space rather then having a separate partition which I always thought was kinda dumb to begin with.
Hey guys.I just wanted to ask one weird thing. How is it possible that my S3 has only 11.2GB of internal storage? I would get it if there was another partition for apps but there isn't. My apps are in the same place as other things when I open storage in options. My S2 has 11.4 of internal + 2GB for apps. I understand the 200MB difference because android for S3 is 200MB+- larger than the one for S2. But where are the other 2 GBs in the S3? Do you guys have it like me too or is it just manufacturers defect?

The device needs space for the OS, the Odin modes, the recovery partition, cache, dalvik cache etc. Don't worry, your device is fine. We all have the same amount of memory

I bought a 16GB Galaxy Mega, under the settings > more tab > storage it shows total space 16GB and under system storage shows 11.22GB being used. I don't have enough space anymore to install app updates. I have about 400MB free atm and it still says insufficient storage every time I try to update an app.
I read the 8GB should have about 4.8GB user accessible, that would make more sense, but I can't understand how my system storage is so huge. Any idea how to reduce it?
Thanks!!!
Yours must be the 8GB version like mine. Because I have a Hong Kong ROM the total space says 16GB even though it's actually 8GB. If I put a UK ROM on I'd get a very different reading. Does yours have native app2sd support like mine?

Oh no! I thought I bought a 16GB version and had a feeling something was wrong. I'm on a French Rom set to English and yes it supports app2sd.
When I goto application manager and sort by size, my biggest app is gallery with 1.2GB taking up space. I'm not sure why I see that because all of my gallery photos are on SD card. When I try to delete the data and disable the app I don't get that 1.2GB back, is it because those are auto generated thumbnail photos? I can't figure out where all that used space is going, because even if I add all my biggest apps together (not including the gallery) they take less than 1GB. If I have 2GB being used by my gallery and apps, where is the other 2GB being used? Do you have any ideas to free up space?
Does yours say 16GB on the box? Mine is an import from Spain and says 8GB on the box even though the phone reports back as 16GB.
Anyway, I'm not familiar with the French ROM at all. I'm sure if you flashed the Hong Kong ROM you'd get 4.9GB of space available like I did.

I've got a 16gb I527m
16 GB total
System -4.06 32gb (bastards for counting this in the 16 GB)
Used -266 mb
Cache- 8mb
Miscellaneous - 290
11.39 GB free
You can compare that to yours.
That is phone internal storage, NOT memory for apps to run.

Hi,
I'm considering to buy the Samsung galaxy s6 edge. today I have the s2. I have a big problem with the s2 - I don't have enough space to update and install applications.
my question is if I want to avoid this problem with the s6, do I have to buy the 64gb version, or will the 32gb version would be enough? I don't need much space for pictures, songs etc.
thx

64gb will save you aggravation in the long run. Keep in mind no SD slot so you cannot upgrade later.

Get the 128gb, everything is bigger now, apps, photos, videos, might as well get the top end
Go with 64gb.
The camera images and videos are big in size because of high resolution.
There is no option to upgrade later as no sd card is supported.

thx for the replies. as I wrote, I don't need much space for media, and my only concern is for apps. i don't want to pay more for 64gb or 128gb if i don't really need it. the device is as expensive as it is. do u think the 32gb will solve the problem of not being able to install and update apps, or do i have to buy the 64gb?
I have the 64gb version.
I don't have much music on my phone (I stream with Spotify instead but do keep a few tracks locally stored for offline music). I don't have any videos installed so my storage is pretty much used solely for photos and apps. If I had purchased the 32gb version I'd be out of storage now as I've only got 33gb free space left. So yeah, get the 64gb version!

Not really. I've used up about 2.5gb in photos. 16.5gb worth in apps and app data (a couple of big games like Hearthstone for example) and about 4.5gb worth of Helium backup data. There is over 9gb dedicated to Samsung/Google system files there too.
Sent from my SM-G925I using Tapatalk
I'd go for the 64GB one. I have an S5 now, with a 64GB SD card and it's less than 50% full, although I have loads of videos, apps, photos etc on it.
I had the same issue you have with your S2, fortunately my phone was rooted and I could delete 3GB of junk in the logs folder. Crazy!! Nowaday's (with my S5) I use the Clean Master to clear cache and junk and I have always space left.
My husband has got himself an S6 edge with 64GB. Just waiting for it to arrive.
As a rule of thumb I'd say go with the 64GB version for peace of mind later on. The 32GB version only has around 22GB of free memory so be careful. The 128GB is just useless unless you plan to watch DVD rips on a 5.1" screen or install 300 apps.

OK...you offered...I am thinking about purchasing the Huawei Ascend XT. In the specs (phonescoop) I noticed 16Gb internal storage with 8.4 "open" usage. That's 7Gb of factory installed bloatware? #1. Other than the Nougat O.S. could most of the bloatware be SAFELY removed #2. In asking that...is most of the bloatware Google and google support services?

I haven't bought the phone...yet. I'm in need of a new phone and it's just one of 3 o r 4 I'm considering. Doesn't almost 3 Gb's of bloatware seem like and awful lot? It does to me. One other item of question: I noticed and it very much caught my attention, in the specs it states: FM Radio-YES. Is this an FM receiver (local FM radio) or just Internet Stream FM?

i dont use the fm turner app i remove it from my roms or least my phone my roms have pretty much all the bloat removed that i could find im still working on new one will be a bit the phone is nice just when we finally get a working dev tree etc we will have custom roms the phone has same hardware as honor 5x i do believe the rr port i did where wifi was broke the phone runs fast so im trying to fix the wifi for it for temp if i can if not im still working on my new rom
It's a FM receiver which requires wired headphones to be connected as the wire functions as an antenna too.

Hey Madvane20.
I'm using stock ROM on B170. My phone only has 8.55GB of internal storage available. From the advertised 16GB. I only have 0.44GB left. I really don't have much on my phone. But as a result of low storage I can't have all the apps and games on my phone that I want.
.how can I expand the internal storage to be more like the 16GB as advertised. What's the highest amount you have available on your phone? Do you have more than 8.55GB on your ROM? If you do how much and link to ROM plz.
Because as you know we can't install aps on the SD card. Or do you do that?
Thanks
Uninstall apps you don't need that take up internal storage, use the storage manager to clear apps caches, move data including music, pictures and videos to micro SD, set apps to store their data in micro SD where possible. Can't do anything else that I am aware of. I usually have 1GB free internal storage after doing this and have to do it regularly.

RE: Madvane 20
First, you need to know that no matter what, there was never 16Gb of memory. They (all electronic storage) "say"-advertise 16gb (or 8 or 2 or 64...etc) but in actuality there is only the nearest binary unit number closest to 16Gb. 16 Gb is actually 16.384 Gb or 16384 Mb.. Got you confused? OK, all storage is designated in "bytes" (one unit of storage) and bytes use the binary system when computing their size/storage capacity. Therefore an "advertised" 16Gb is only actually just slightly more than 15.9 Gb. If your not sure what I'm saying, use a conversion chart for Mb to Gb (or vice-versa) and remember that your dealing in the "binary" code. Then , on top of that, manufacturers set aside a certain number of "sectors" to account for bad/defective sectors that may occur when manufactured. Thus, it would not be unusual for 16Gb to actually only be about 14.7 Gb (or so) of actual usable storage space. Example...I have a "16" Gb pendrive that has 14.5 Gb of "actual" storage capacity on it. If the doesn't make sense to you, look up "How electronic storage works" (google-bing...etc..) Next, look up just how much "space" the O.S. on you phone occupies. Then, after deducting that number from the "actual" storage capacity, you'll be able to determine just how much "bloatware" you may have on the phone and you can -CAREFULLY- start eliminating some of those apps. This will open more "storage space" for personal use, (Mb's) on the phone. One last thing...you can put apps on an SD card. Now, that said, SOME SD cards are not "compatible" with certain phones and that may prevent you from being able apply the apps to the SD card. Some PHONES do not recognize the SD card as "internal" storage and thus, you have to re-format and change the SD card designation to "Internal". And a lot of "bottom-line" phones just don't have the hardware or firmware capabilities to handle this. Now, have I got you thoroughly confused? don't despair...you can easily look up all I've said and read and understand it at your pleasure.

No you don't have me confused at all. Thank you for the response Madame. Sorry for the late reply. Well I think today is the day I will finally root and flash a new ROM. As im tired of EMUI and no adoptable storage.
Can you link me to the ROM you reccomend? I want adoptable storage. Not that much bloatware. Full functionality, including camera, wifi, netflix, wireless display etc. Also I want a little more available RAM if possible. I want adoptable storage. Please reccomend a ROM.
One more thing. I've seen that the Samsung Micro SD cards above 32 GB are working for this phone . But I may pick up a 32GB or 64GB Sandisk micro SD card. Will the Sandisk be just as compatible as the Samsung? I plan to simply get an Class 10 of 95mb read speed and 10mb write speed. Like the Sandisk ultra or the Samsung evo cards. Thank you fam.

Sorry i called you Madvane, Rick new here
What's up. I'm new to these parts of the forums. I have downgraded from s8+'s and now I'm on the H1611. I have your b180 room installed on my device and for the life of me cannot get Xposed to install without dealing with the constant boot loop. I know it takes something like 20 min. I've read somewhere but an hour is ridiculous. I have tried flashing through TWRP and I've tried through Magisk and no luck. Any idea to get Xposed installed?
Current:
Your b180 room
Rooted with Magisk
Another thing is it normal to have ram at like 300-400mb free? This phone feels super sluggish and I think MIUI is far too heavy for this phone. I agree with the folks in here that want lineageos. I'll search for a branch or source tree to see if I can get something going at least. If not I'll join the club with trying to build a tree. This phone has "0" snappiness whatsoever. A friend's LG Leon lte feels way faster than this BEHEMOTH of a phone
epikroms,
You might want to post in the H1611 Xposed thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-ascend-xt/help/xposed-huawei-ascend-xt-t3536003/
several of us have Magisk Xposed installed and working.
Well, I actually have it installed now and haven't posted here since this part of the forums are a complete ghost town. I was gonna share my current build for this device but seeing from the lack of anything here I'm not gonna even waste time releasing it to the general public. And thanks for your response but it would've been easier with just providing some information rather than making me go through pages of nonsense. But the response is what matters. I will be returning back to a real device shortly because this phone is not as snappy as everyone says and nor is it as good as everyone says for it's dollar. I bought this phone and a brand new Samsung j3 and kept this phone because I hate Samsung but now I really wish I had kept it. So good day/evening. I am out....

Well what information exactly were you looking for? Installing Xposed is not a one liner and can get a bit complicated with all the different versions.
You could have written up what Xposed version you installed and how you did it to help the next person - that's how forums work.

Exactly so, why was your reply opposite of what you are telling me? And it's quite obvious that there is only the magisk way of installing it. I'm not trying to argue with you man. I asked that question a day or 2 ago and I noticed that no one really was even cruising around in the forums so I said to myself what the heck, might as well keep trying things on my own. Also, noticed developement has come to a complete stop a while ago. I honestly thought this place was deserted.
