Hello all
I've had a bit of a search and can't see my questions being answered, if they have sorry point me to the posts.
1: Are there any obvious drawbacks to updating using OTA rather than the other ways? The phone is still in warranty and I know 3rd party builds may invalidate it.
2: If I update to Ginger bread OTA do i need to unroot froyo first?
3: After update can I still root the phone and use a Webtop hack
I think that's about it.
Thanks for any help
Jonnym
To part answer my own post. I did unroot.
I found that rerooting was fairly easy.
Im yet to try webtop hack.
Hope that helps someone out there
if i unroot, (sorry for posting this elsewhere too) does it still say tampered? if so, will best buy still take it back if say its broke or something?
The thread about rooting answers this question.
I have been reading a lot of the forums here and for the fist time im a bit leary of rooting and flashing a rom on my phone. I had no problems doing it on all mt other android phones so before I proceed, I would like to ask a few questions. This is more towards Canadian users like the rogers users. Thats what I have.
1: seeing that a fair bit of users have lost their IMEI I was wondering if any rogers users have experienced this loss? If so, what did they do to get your IMEI lost?
2: Is this the best way to root my rogers phone?
[HOWTO] [ROOT] No Tripping Flash Counter - Updated [ATT / Bell / Telus / Rogers]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
3: If I stick to non asop or cm10 roms are my chances of loosing my IMEI very low?
Thank you for taking the time to read my post and hopefully answer the questions I have
Anyone?

1) the brick bug is only there on stock 4.0.4 firmware kernel for u so on JB ur safe for now
2) u can root ur phone without installing a custom firmware for sure
3) of course rooting will always have an elemantary risk for sure, but u have to see to it that, why do i require a root in the first place
No (Ask a ridiculous question, get a ridiculous answer).
You really need to learn 'the basics' before you do anything to your phone or you will break it. Read the threads stickied at the top of Q&A, and also read the threads linked in the Stickies thread third post from the top in General.
The questions you've asked have been asked/answered here thousands of times over the past two years, and the answers are in those threads. If anyone serves you up simple answers without you understanding what you're doing, you're going to end up with an expensive plastic paperweight like countless people before you.
Thanks for your answers.

But MistahBungle , i wasn't planning to root my phone right now. And i know i am not ready yet. Those are questions that popped into my mind when i began to read some documentation on rooting and custom firmwares yesterday and i didn't find any answers to those. Sorry if i bothered you.
Anyway thanks again for your help.

Sorry, but just not sure which forum to post my question in. Running a LG P769 phone with t-mobile OS. want to at least eliminate biggest room hogs which include t-mobile system apps and some I put in which now won't go fully away.
Need to get advice on the hopefully simplest root unroot method to employ.
Thanks for listening and for your help. Jim
Root unroot question. Which forum to use?
Edit: Removed as unnecessary reply to my original post. My apology if any confusion resulted. Jim
