Even if you got the kernel, what would you do (since you won't be able to flash it)?
guys, this is my mobile's current specs (also, i have attached a screenshot);
Xperia neo (MT15a)
Android version 2.3.4
Firmware Version 4.0.2.A.0.62
i need to downgrade this to .42 to continue rooting. can somebody give me a link to download ftf file for MT15a??
thanks in advance, really appreciate your help guys.
You can make your own ftf. Repair firmware with update service, then we'll help you with thw next steps.

hm.. but update service will give him .62 not .42, right? or are you thinking on making prerooted image? hm now i got idea
@ prazadx: are you willing to do clean flash with pc companion or sony update service, then we'll instruct you how to make .62 .ftf, but it will be around 150MB after you zip it, wich you would need to upload..
then if your phone is sim-lock free your fastboot should be open, and it should accept prerooted .img.
even if your bootloader is locked i think it only matter for kernels.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong
its here mate
Just flash this with flashtool (extract using winzip or eqivalent first to get the ftf), root using flashtool, update OTR, install cmw and you are fine.

I'm gonna perform this flashing with flashtool. all i need is to downgrade my current firmware to .42, so that i can root my device. also this is a sim lock free device with a locked bootloader.
is there any other way to root without downgrading??
also, thanks mate..
There are another way to root but you need to unlock your bootloader, sorry I cant put links, but if you search right here in this Forum "unlock bootloader" you would see the options to do that.
Definitly this way is the only you have without unlockink bl. Thats all the peoplo say because I cant flash .42 on mine....flashtool stop always before 100% I will format pc...i dont know what other thing can be.
Any suggestion??

Just flashing a stock kernel won't affect your user and system data! And neither would OTA update..
But flashing a ROM would..
Sent from my Xperia Neo V
I know Flashing kernel will not affect my Save data but wasn't sure about Update
Thanks mate.
i don't understand... the bootlader is unlocked how can he receive an OTA update..!
I don't know and I was wondering too!
Receiving an OTA update is no issue! But updating the phone through it is..
Because phones are often bricked when people try to install the OTA update.. But many users have reported that installing the update is possible if you unlocked your device via test point method!
If you unlocked your device the official way, you will eventually end up bricking the phone!
Sent from my Xperia Neo V
I unlocked my Bootloader via Official method.
Thanks for the info and I will never think about updating my Neo via OTA.
No problem!
Many users have faced this problem of bricking their devices when doing OTA update..
Thought of passing that to you too!
Sent from my Xperia Neo V
I just hope someone upload a ftf file of this new update.

answer: I think you have unlocked bootloader..
you need to lock it using a ftf "Xperia_Relock_bootloader.ftf" using flash method. Find in this forum for the ftf or google.
after that perform the update..
thanks

I was wondering how Carrier and Country affect getting updates? I have a Z Ultra 6802 (HK - came with Chinese apps) and haven't seen the 501 update on my phone yet and I really don't want to unlock the bootloader.
So I guess my ultimate question is: Will I get the update in the US while on AT&T? (I'm ok waiting, just want to know)
Thanks,
toonhead

Eventually. Or you can do what I did and flash a generic 510. Then use PC companion to repair if it doesn't work properly. When repaired, a new version of 510 is installed by Sony that works.

Look at the opening posts for both these threads. The first shows you how to flash the firmware that will need repair and the second will show you how to repair.

http://www.htcdev.com/ this is what you need... But beware this if official method and you can just loose you wannanty if your phone is in warranty. Before hand install minimal adb ..... if you could have told me which phone you have it would have been better...

Root method for all htc devices is identical, provided htcdev supports an official bootloader unlock for your model. Just good how to root htc "your model" and pick the right result
