CNM Touchpad 9DC Semi Bricked any ideas? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Got a CNM 9DC Touchpad a few days ago and noticed there was a newer firmware online via the CNM website. Flashed it, flash went ok but when i turned the tablet on it displays a white only screen. Have spent various hours messing about with it since then, resetting, flashing different firmwares etc with no joy. I didn't save the original firmware before flashing it (schoolboy error!).
The only firmware i have found to semi work is the firmware for the 7DC but the screen is far too stretched due to the size difference so therefore unusable but at least i know the tablet isn't completely bricked. Tried emailing CNM but have had no reply so far. Anyone know where i could find the original firmware or how i could solve the problem? :good:

Anyone?

Got the same problem, did you every sort it?

CNM 9DC
Same here happened to me over a week ago. got 2 for my kids at xmas. i wanted to root them and found a website which had rooted versions for 7dc 9dc and 10.1dc. wanting to play it safe i made sure i had download the firmware from the cnm website so i could flash back if there were an problems. with the rooted one i was left with a white screen and it was no better with the cnm firmware. it is working as i get a display using hdmi and im able to control it using a mouse. i do still have one of the tablets with the firmware on which if i could just copy it off would sort the problem im sure but havent a clue how to. i also emailed cnm and got the following in reply.
“All the fir mare we have available is on our website, we do not have any other versions for the 9DC.

the rooted firmwares i got from here blog*zackehh*com/cnm-touchpad-modified-firmware-images

Life saver, there is a bit of software you can use to get a flash able back-up from, just need to find the link for it now.
http://www.freaktab.com/showthread....your-RK-device-(ROM)-with-the-new-RK-2-1-tool this is the one, there is a read me file, let me know how you get on.

If you manage to get the image then if possible could you please make it available somewhere. I have the exact same problem, but don't have a second one to get an image from. I also feel sure that there are quite a few others out here that would be extremely grateful. If what I have been reading is anything to go by.

The main files needed are boot, kernel and recovery, if you can upload them then that would be a great help.

Kernel is only 7 meg, both the boot and recovery have the kernel in them, so it's about right, will download and have a play in the morning as have a 4.30 start for work.

Help flashing
has anyone downloaded the files? I have tried to dump again to be on the safe side, but still no luck. i feel so close. im sure you will need the system.img aswell

Try this
flash this file to your tablet http://www.theattab.com/support-nine_dual.html , it will start but you will have no touchscreen, power the tablet off and then flash the boot, kernel and recovery img you made and see what happends.

its working!!!
Its working, i re flashed what i had and its booting into android. whats the best way for me to get it out to you all is there an easy way to package it up?? all i ask is that someone root the bloody thing. little bit worried as it seems to have my google account on it. isnt that stored in the userdata.img?

I flashed mine with the file that lonegunman suggested. Then flashed just the kernel.img to it as I was getting an error when I tried all 3 files. It seems to be working I will give it a proper check and post the end result. Of course if what I have done is likely to cause any problems then please let me know.
Looks like I spoke too soon. I don't seem to be able to enable the wireless at all. Stopped there as didn't seem much point in going further till that's sorted)

If the previously bricked tablet is now working why not factory reset that one then dump image from it. No chance of personal data then.
Is your wireless working ok?
Steve

Indeed, the best thing to do is to flash all the parts, do a factory reset and dump again, there is a tool to make all the img files into 1 file, it's a little hard to explain it all but have a read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2517181&page=2 , in a nutshell you will need to unpack the @tab image and replace all the .img files in the folders with your working .img and as a plus i think this software will root as well, if not then there is another bit that will, will sort out link later.
Can you upload the rest of the files minus the system img one please.

It looks like I finally have it working. Even the wifi
I had to grab a (broken) firmware for the 9dc (search Google for cnm firmware and look for the result that send you to zackehh's blog
Then unpack it using the tool suggested by lonegunman. Replace the boot, kernel and recovery.img files with the ones grabbed from bigdaddy78. Repack it and flash the resulting update_out.img to the tablet.
It looks like I will be able to sleep soundly tonight without worrying that the wife is gonna murder me in my sleep. (yes, it was HER tablet)
Thanks for all the assistance, you have both, quite literally, saved my life
If anyone wants the file I'm more than happy to upload it somewhere for you.
One thing that is a bit odd though is that the model number shows as VS TOUCHTAB 10.1DC
Oh well, at least it's working.

Yes thats because the firmware on the cnm site for the 9 dc is the for the 10.1 tablet, that's why we have all the problems, 1 thing to try is the 7 dc firmware and see if thats any better.
Sent from my GT-N7105 using Tapatalk 2

I tried the 7 dc one, works but the display is a bit big for my liking, any chance of the system.img from your working 9 being uploaded bigdaddy78?

Am i the only one that loves to search on Google when i face a problem?
These terms i speak of , are backup images for your tablet.
Let me explain better. Your device is like a computer. It has a OS, operating system, Your tablet is probably Android ?
When you first get the phone, before you change anything, it has a stock recovery, so if you play with it too much, and mess it up , you can return it to factory settings, like a computers recovery partition.
or the factory oem disks they send you if you break your PC. Well within the Open source community, you can find these images for your tablet, MAYBE... depends on how cool your tablet is.
Search my friend. Talk to the guy who sold you a hunk o junk, and ask him.. or make Google" your best friend...

Lol...He doesn't know what a kernel, recovery or nandroid is and you expect him to have changed his kernel or recovery to root and install cwm or twrp?Ask your best friend on how to gain cwm without changing recovery and lets face the rest in future. And what he needs to search for when he is a noob with no knowledge on what it came with?Understand that everyone on xda doesn't know much about those and even some about root!do thinking everyone here has their phone rooted and installed custom recovery is just foolish!
You have to act sensibly when trying to help a noob.Answer your best or if you can't just ignore the question and someone with more knowledge will help.Dont mislead noobs!
To the OP(The thread creator): After factory reset,it is normal for the device to start up late.It may take well above 5 minutues because it has to rebuild device setup wizards (not technical but to understand). So wait for about 10 mins.If it doesn't boot, ask your seller if he knows how to enter stock recovery. Then you may do another factory reset from there and see if it works.

I browse through these threads every day and nobody helps these "noobz" as you call them. or they put up an ignorant reply. atleast i took my time and gave him my opinion. Before i posted, nothing was on here. Even if he does not have a rooted device, after receiving my answer, he now has terms to go to "Google" and search them out. A"backup image" is on a phone rather its rooted or not. If he is not using a phone to get on XDA then he is probably on a computer, i tried to explain things and relate them with computer terms, thank u and God bless

Seriously???God damn!Dude..please dont talk about something you never know of!How and where in the earth(well in phone actually) would the "BACKUP IMAGE"(the whole system as you mean) would be stored except those nandroid and craps done after rooting??Again I say, dont answer if you are unsure of it.Its not your device and you are putting someone's else device at risk.It is far better to ignore or give/refer to an alternative than misguiding!
So, you trying to start a flame war on this "new users" thead, Let me ask you this , when you press data /factory reset on your phone, How does it return it to factory setting, Is it not a image that it uses to return everything to normal?
Really? your advice to the lil dude was wait 5 minutes. HMMM
Why don't you explain to me, What is an OTA package, when our phones upgrade "over the air" ...is this not an image that is sent to our phone to install update images?
But i guess you do not know? Because i'm looking at 3 OTA on my sd card , one themed by guspeed, one rooted, and a normal one..but i don't know about phones right?
With PlayfulGod's and Hroark13' hard work, I was able to compile a 10.1 jellybeer rom with mods, but i dont know about phones right?

Dude!I'm not here for a flame war!Every android phone has something called /system and /data./system contains all your rom's apk, framework, libs etc and your /data contains your personal data, apps downloaded from playstore, app data, settings etc. When you do a factory reset, your /data gets wiped off/formatted and hence all your settings gone and your phone is new again. And when it boots again,it has to dex optimise the apks and framework (if deodexed),setup your phone for first boot etc apart from starting core services and hence the delay for the first time.
OTA updates are never an IMG!OFC or phone's roms are not mere 30mb or 40mb!And if you dont get surprised I have received a 15mb update and you think galaxy note with soooooo many features can be packed into 15mb when its odin rom image is aroung 700mb?Thats 46x compression and I dont think it exists!OTA updates are just a zip containing diff files from the previous build which gets updated through stock recovery(more like flashing a custom rom but automated and some changes in zip). That never proves to be a backup to the entire phone!
All those 3OTA's in your phone you are looking at are not OTA!Its just a cwm update zip IMO!Get it checked with guspeed.
Oh...you compiled a rom!Good work :good: but if you really understood what you were doing, you must also have come to know what I have said above and feel free to verify it with others .
Oh...and for all your question at the end: Yes, you were right .Sorry Ego is human's devil!
If you still feel,I dont know anything thats fine. Please let me know how to restore the "backup image" you said without root and I will be happy to learn it.Unfortunately your best friend (mine too) didnt help me out

The OTA "packages were frauds, I did not know this. They pushed them in the thread as real OTA images from the latest upgrade.
As far as the tablet- I think its , like i said before-halfway broken..

Cant get PC to read watch in step 10 of flashing
I have an Omate 1/8 which arrived yesterday. I factory reset it. I got through steps 1-9 of the recent Rom update. When I tried 10, to connect my watch to my PC, it recognized a "removable disc G:" and told me to insert a disk, but it didn't/couldn't read the watch contents.
(The setup file in step 2 did properly set up according to my pc.)
Anyone able to suggest what I do?

Are you trying to flash the ROM or trying to run the patch? They are two different things. This thread is for the Patch.
No root
Thanks for all your work so far on the x201! Having an issue of no root on the watch...

4. Reverted back to stock, reflashed. Attempted the 1.0.1 version. Security Settings and SU say no root ("There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!")

Is ADB installed?
Did you disable Quickboot?
Did you enable USB Debugging?
Did the Patch give any errors when you ran it?
Just hard wiped my dev unit, flashed stock Jan20 and ran the Patch v1.0.2. The only thing I had happen was SuperSU tell me the su binary needed to be updated. I am curious as you mention trying to install SuperSU, it's preinstalled by the Patch and should not have to be installed by the user.

I did all of that according to your instructions and didn't get any errors. Decided to wipe and return to stock, but got an error during flashing (status bar went to 100% really quick and an error popped up around 13 seconds). Watch won't respond to anything including plugging it into a wall charger. Will try with another computer to see if that helps, and then try pulling the battery if that doesn't work. Any advice to unbrick?

Those errors are really important. Knowing what the error and what color the was was tells me a lot of things. As far as the watch being unresponsive, battery pull or wait a few hours for the battery to die. If you don't want ot void the warranty I suggest waiting for the battery to die.
Something is not right then because if SuperSU (or any file file that matter) was not installed, the script would have given an error.
EDIT:
I don't want to seem like I'm not trying to help but I run the script 20-30 times before a release and use it about 10-15 times a day on a regular basis. In fact I use a slightly modified version to cut down on dev time.

Sounds good! SuperSU was installed, it just said the binaries weren't installed. I took off the screw covers for the waterproofing warranty, but one of the screws was stripped, so I think I'm out of luck...the watch is off so I don't think the battery will even drain. I guess it is time to see what Omate customer service is made of.

Unless you pull the battery, the watch may appear to be off but stuck on bootloader mode. It's happened to me a couple times as well.
If yours is anything like mine, the placement screws are better than the ones in the TS.

I just flashed back to stock, what next is needed?
Following Lokifish's very helpful video, I have finally succeeded in flashing back to stock. Do I need now to do a security patch, or was that included in the stock file I'd have used? Also, how might I obtain some of the useful additions that Loki installed in Imperium, working from stock?

If you flashed back to stock then none of the improvements listed in the OP will be found on your device. Stock is exactly that, stock with no changes at all.
Except for some build.prop edits, removing preinstalled apps like FB and a different launcher, there is no difference between the patch and the ROM. I in fact use a slightly modified version of the Patch myself to build the test builds of the ROM.

I am not sure if I understood. Weren't there some security issues you helped address,( before Imperium), that were recommended to add to the stock rom?
Are you saying if I do this patch, I will basically have the Rom plus some adjustments? Are these security related or just improvements, tweaks and some helpful programs? Either way, I think I will prefer this to the basic stock. (I took your reply to suggest there might be no need to do the patch, that it is useful to you but not so necessary...)

Oh, by the way, for us true newbies, it might be helpful to offer some advice how best to negotiate the downloads at host-dev... I found myself in a hellish loop of websites offering that I join for free but then never giving a way to get past the "upgrade to premium" offers. In the end, I downloaded iLivid download manager and got it to work.

Fixes have not made it to official firmware yet.
Rom = Patch + extras
Use an adblocker and only the actual download button will be seen.
Thanks. All working with the patch now.

I successfully downloaded the patch. I was downloading apps and after downloading cal from the Omate store, it froze. I cannot shut the phone off. Neither button. Touch screen unresponsive. Is there any other way to reboot things than to take the battery out? Any reset pin hole or such?

Iv'e had that happen to me a couple of times even when on stock w no patch. Short of pulling the battery you have to wait for the battery to die.
Omate TS slow and built-in memory full
Hi all, hopefully this time I am posting in the right place. After flashing the patch my TS seems to be slower and seems to ignore storing things on the sd card. The TS memory now has only 228mb free and the SD card is all free (this is set up as the default storage). Has anybody come across a similar situation (TS slow and memory full) and how could I overcome that? Many thanks in advance (please be patient, I am not an expert)!

COMPLETE guide to BRICK your Truesmart! --{SOLVED!! Unbricked!!}

[update 2] I just summarized a way to backup and restore (all based on other great DEV's work, just put in one place) your TS before your play with your TS here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52820278#post52820278
Go check it if you plan to root your TS!
[update] With the help of cheahcl, I got the latest F/W for 4th List 1/8/2100. With the MTK SP_Flash_Tool, I was able to upload a corrected F/W for my TS and everything goes back to normal!
Thanks for cheahcl for his dump and Lokifish Marz for his All in one tools! You guys really saved my day! (and my TS).
A Quick summary: Do NOT use any method on XDA yet to root or change TWRP recovery! It seems the TS of 4th list is different in some way than the ones before which render most of stuffs here invalid. However, fear not to play around since now we have a way to go back to stock!
In my experience, I found that it's really difficult to truly brick a MTK based system. The system will just reject flashing at slightest sign that a F/W is not compatible. The only cache is you need to have the "correct" F/W specifically for your TS!
In my observation, OMate made changes between each delivery. For Example, the 4th list of 1/8/2100 is different in (At least F/W configuration) of the 3rd or earlier 1/8/2100.
------------------------below is my original story of what I tried and failed--------------------------
Just got mine (1/8/2100) 5 hrs ago! I am on the 4th list. The delivery in FAST!
The watch starts normally. I played with it for a while, than decided to root it, install TWRP and apply the security hack made by +Lokifish Marz
Now I have a brick! Just after 30 min I receive the watch!
<<Can anyone help me here?>>
First of all, in respecting to all great DEVs, I have NO intention to blame anyone else but myself. (I did this to my own watch!)
Second, I have been rooting Android since Cupcake day, so I am not a Noob... (or so I think...) I am very familiar with ADB/fastboot... and use almost daily.
So here is the guide to brick. If Anyone have any idea please help me out!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1st, I tried to use this tool to root+TWRP+scurity patch http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2713183&page=2 knowing it's NOT tested against 1/8/2100. I just tried anyway... The script went with a lot of errors, it seems the script cannot locate correct files but still push the security patched files into the /system/app (and other places).
I turn on the watch, but it just stuck at boot logo (the orange "Truesmart" logo without animation)
Also, the Recovery is still stock, TWRP is no where to be seen.
Since ADB still works, I adb reboot couple times, pull the battery, let the watch run for 2hrs, etc... Nothing works. The watch just stuck at the boot logo.
Than I follow this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2641261 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2641261 with Stock firmware downloaded from http://d-h.st/users/Lokifish Marz/?fld_id=30814#files (Omate_1-8_2100_TrueSmart_20140328.zip)
I installed all drivers, restarts my Win 7 (x86) pc (several times), and after several attempts the Flashtool just flash in the Firmware.
The Tools flash with a green Check mark, indicating everything is ok!
However the watch just become a brick after this....
Than this completed the brick process! Now the watch won't even turn on, when I try to use Flash tool again, it always say S_FT_ENABLE_DRAM_FAIL. Google this and you find it's due to flashing wrong F/W, but I don't know where went wrong!
Anyone else have same problem or it's just me? Anyone have solution?
You said everything...
You made mistake but that shouldn't be problem.
You soft brick it using wrong recovery image and root tool but as you said, you had adb and fastboot on - so if you know what are you doing and I see you know (except of that pary of flashing something that's not for your device .) you should be able to flash stock firmware back.
If you can flash another firmware, try with other firmware...
Don't know what else to say....
Omate build piece of sh*t and we'll all have problems with it...
It's very hard to differentiate devices.
All of them has same nr on mother boards and, as I said, we will all have problems with Omate and their TrueSh*t...

Ha! Very true! I think you are right! I believe Omate have many segmentation on their HW/SW, even with same model number.... A lot of things changes between versions which makes the "factory image" not compatible....
Anyone has the latest (4th list) 1/8/2100 TS who could dump their whole image for me would be helpful...
I would like to help you but mine is 2nd list and it's still on customs office...
Omate shipment experts, you just gotta love them....

Not sure what to tell you on this. A board revision change is possible as the Omate_1-8_2100_TrueSmart_20140328.zip was from a 1/8 2100. I can't even test stuff anymore as I gave one to a tech student that's studying network and system security and the other four were stripped down, reworked into data gathering modules and then donated to near space projects.

Thanks Lokifish for your comment... Is there anyway to get a latest F/W? If you know anyone I could contact, please PM me... Thanks!
Anyone have yet received a 1/8/2100 on 4th list could PM me a Factory F/W dump?
I tried another XP PC with all steps checked and rechecked but still... No luck...
Teach me how to do a dump and I'll dump it for you. I was also looking how to backup my stock firmware before playing around, seeing as no one has our version of firmware uploaded for restore yet.
Also received mine yesterday and firmware version is 20140513, pretty damn recent.
You guys are going to have to help each other out on this one. I've already deleted 90% of any and all Android dev stuff from my personal file server and computer. This includes tools, guides and work going as far back as the original HTC Evo.

Thanks a lot! First of all, Currently don't do anything posted on XDA yet since most of them will not work with this version of TS... (This is where I am now...)
First of all, please get all necessary tools directly from this post "All Tools" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2734687 (Do NOT download or install any other things there!)
Follow those steps: (modified from link above)
1. Download "All Tools"
2. Install Universal ADB Drivers (included in All Tools) <--If you already have ADB up and running, it's not necessarily, then.
3. Enable USB Debugging on watch
4. Launch MTKDroid Tools
5. Connect watch to PC
6. Please follow the instruction from here: http://www.chinaphonearena.com/foru...up-MTK6592-MTK6589-MTK6577-and-all-MTK-Phones
   a. Skip everything above and just starts from "B) Open ADB prompt to begin communication with the phone" .
   b. Don't worry about the recovery thing... TS comes with a recovery which is not locked and you can do everything this article said with only stock recovery. (also no busy box is needed, nor su since TS run everything in root!)
   c. You could also refer to the video guide below for details
7. it's okay to just provide the file you got after finishing the step "C) Read back the ROM with MTK Droid Tools" I should be able to do the Step D) and after myself.
Thanks a lot for your help!

The space was given to me for free as a recognized developer and contributor. Seeing that I have left development completely, it is not right that I continue to use the services. So at the end of the week the files will be purged and I will ask the xda remove my developer and contributor status.

I've done step D as well, good to just flash it I guess.
Let me know if it worked, before I start messing about. I'm not good in all these stuff. Been flashing since HD2 days but still, just a tutorial follower, can probably count Linux commands I know with 1 hand.

If you want to play around, please don't forge to back up your IMEI! since the MTK SP_Flash_Tool will wipe your IMEI!

Ive managed to get my brand new watch stuck in a bootloop after using framaRoot to root it. (I know, I know)
Now, I am able to boot into recovery mode or factory, and tried a factory reset. No luck, so i'm pretty sure the issue is in the /system partition.
Does anyone know if there are zip files somewhere that i can flash from recovery, to restore the system partition?
Device:
- 1GB / 8GB / 2100MHz Version
- Originally unrooted
- OUI 2.1
- Modem Ver: MOLY.WR8.W1315.MD.WG.MP.V4, 2013/08/14 18:16
- No other modifications besides the rooting (which did work already before I rebooted)

The TS (or any MTK based system) does not use the usually "recovery backup/restore" way we familiar of, instead it goes the "special tool on PC backup/restore" method. You need ask people who receive their watch in around the same time as yours with same configuration to backup their watch FW with MTK tools than restore with said FW.
Basically what I had done in this thread!
Please follow my another guild to see how to do this...

And in case three smiley's aren't enough:
Also, quick note for other people bricking their phone, my issue (after I bricked it again), was that I used an app to change the density property, which broke the boot of the watch.
The app that broke my watch was: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.birdapi.android.dpi

Looking for recovery help

I tried to update Android over the weekend and it somehow went wrong. Here's a quick rundown of what it does:
1. Says "installing system update"
2. Goes to text window saying go to Dload mode or Reboot. I'd attach a crappy pic of the screen if I can find a way to upload it directly.
I've had the phone activated for about 360 days, meaning I have about 5 more before I can't make a warranty claim.
To prevent going through cell phone withdrawal (the 24 hours I did endure were absolute agony), I decided to let Sprint sign me up for a 2 year (f)lease of the G4...$8/month...m'eh... So, basically, what I want do is recover pictures and any other personal files (my level 40-odd Clash of Clans, AdVenture Capitalist progress, text messages, notes and doodles) on it before I send it in to LG for a warranty replacement.
I'm a reasonably tech savvy EE, though I deal mostly with analog hardware. I've never got around to trying to root phones; go easy on terms please, include links to any Windows tools!
Thanks!!

Sounds like update didn't flash properly. You can use THIS guide to get you back to ZV4 firmware, then let the phone update itself to ZVC. Or you can search Google for Sprint ZVC tot and .dll file, usually coming in the same package. Replace the ZV4 tot and dll in the guide with it. You must follow that guide carefully.

**Data** recovery not really phone recovery...
So...both of these methods look like they will wipe the data saved on the phone while it returns them to stock.
What I really want, and apologies if I didn't convey this properly, is some way to simply retrieve the contents of a phone (at the very least is the DCIM folder with irreplacable snapshots of my kids). If there isn't, I'll just fill out the warranty claim and ship it back to LG to get a brand new replacement.

I honestly do not think that you can recover what is saved on the phone if you can not get it to boot into a rom or a custom recovery.

5. it failed completely since now I soft brick my device...so in order to fix my device now.... is for anyone who has this device & has root could give me the following:

And from what i see is a boom in one click rooters messing up binary and tripping knox and bootloops are the ffirst occurence of little knowledge ..... bootloops keep the kiddies busy becoming Adults. I had bootloops when i was a kid too.but the FRP binary pick up and kknox kickin half of us {me included} on the knobel kernel...... im sick of bootloops tooo

How do i make an official post with model #. Build # and android static being code? Do i use my own drive cloud? Whats propper form to post? Copy a senoir? Ask a senior for help and development approval? I mightas well publish the root solution right? Uhgggggg.....
Ok ok........ would a senior developer help me out a little.... heres what i wanna post...... unboxing 2) lg ms330 k7 metro mobile devices and romdump.... going to do all partitions raw .img and .tar zips with exceptions that must be in place to use as recovery ....... root solution .... or root failure lol... recovery images with all info (ill make sure to flip the goo.gl FRP switch the wrong way once ! Joke joke....) ...... i didnt see a forum on posting real official facts in official forumns unnocially....
Well itll be about 12 hours any way ..... someone will let me know..... i have noticed that no one has really posted a tried root solution... guide.... its got alot of ppl anxious so maybe this will help. Well there are a couple but they are all loopy unfortunately

I used the latest kingroot from the official site to root - then used Supersu Me from the Playstore to replace kingroot with Chainfire's Supersu. Worked like a charm, not a single issue.

I havent tried to install supersu in my terminal app (yet) I just finished on my app & just started testing it on my own....I will try to add a supersu option for anyone who has root, but not from supersu
It seems most can't understand the situstion im in....
I actually rooted my device, but the complications came after when i made an app to install the xposed framework...it worked the first time, but when i tried to install it again to see what will happen...the app crashed & rebooted my phone...after the third attempt I was left with a brick....
So my issue here is that I DID NOT have trouble on gaining root....HOWEVER I figured out why my app broke my phone & I fixed my issue(s) & added many safety protocols to be initated if the the same case ever happen again

ON this end things are great but im on one and just going to clone the other .... but i hadnt heard from anyone ..... i need to know protocol to post findings in an official way and the .img .zips and .md5 files.
i have had terrible luck with LG taking root and then Loopburn in the past and im just waiting to see these under "performance" conditions where the android system exSU id really crunched .... thats when the ls770 went bonkers along with another i got siittin in the "test me im done" pile lol
Is there a stone cold reliable method to root and flash TWRP for the k7 with minimal risk?
LG K7 MS330 MetroPCS rooted recovery image in TWRP or CWM would be the answer
Are you asking us if we have the clean fresh ms330 rooted recovery image along with the images written route of system root for integral forensic troubleshooting for later non recovery solvable issues? The image im trying to figure out how to make on this freshly rooted k7 sitting in front of me with barely a sign on ... on to it. The one that every little question is crucial to someone else maybe rooting their devise if i do this right?
Was that the question?
What kills me is IVE NEVER EVEN SEEN A CWM RECOVERY and i gotta make an image for one ? ! > ! HELP
I am not joking ..... I havent been a PHONIE long. LOL I cant believe i get any of it this far along ...... I did brick and run over 3 Sams notes along the way!
any way any help? i seem to be a little alone in this endeavor

I wish I could help brother, but I only very recently got in to this stuff so my knowledge is extremely lacking.

Not as well as I liked.... K7 a little akward
I had as just a hard time if not equal to the ms770 stylo ... Im beginning to not like LG grrrr. It's almost like the bootloader is locking .... As this thread started it was all about the su binary not taking it then maybe rooted after restore. But in both devices I had to uninstall root. Just had root until reboot and a mess after that. Is there another issue with the bootloader on lg? I can say that I think there is a diference in su ap and installed binary so pay attention.
I did not do well in my imaging ability... I should have reached to ask assistance but need to start and finish these two. I went ahead and customed them with out root apps ... The buyers didnt carecause they never seen root apps anyway. Im getting another this week ... More time hopefully
I've seen quite a few people swear off LG. In my opinion their phones aren't bad but I guess as far as 3rd party developement, they make it difficult.

Okay first thing first...
1. I rooted my lg k7 (metropcs)
2. I created an app to install the xposed framework WITHOUT A RECOVERY
3. It work! but after further testing my app....it started to reboot my phone whenever I tried to run the installer script...since xposed framework was already installed from the first initial attempt....it way suppose to say it way already installed...but this only happen on this device but NOT my shield TV(i do NOT know why & do NOT have any logs)
4. after my latest testing of getting everything to work...I tried the latest concept I came up with a better way to install xposed framework succesfully...
5. it failed completely since now I soft brick my device...so in order to fix my device now.... is for anyone who has this device & has root could give me the following:
1. boot.img
2.userdata.img
3. recovery.img
4. system.img
5. other img file here
I really need this phone to work again because app development & (hacking) is a hobby of mine & the lg k7 is my only phone that has root & my only MAIN phone too since my kyocera hydro wave sucks & its sorta hardware broken....
also I did explained a few thing about the app im in the middle making...BUT, Once I fix this bug(s)....I will try to release it on google play or somewhere on here
you won't believe how easy it was...to do it without a recovery!

my personal opinion is playing is that using apps without recovery is stupid. i am also guilty of being stupid/impatient and f'n up my phone. but lets not encourage stupidity bro. educate the people. i installed xposed through adb before recovery was available too but, and for those of us that are just tired of typing the commands, copy, paste, rename directory and all its awesome. but to mass distribute it to the masses of newbs????? how many willl soft brick their phone cause thet wanted their wifi signal bars to look like a deathstar. (yes, mine do) i've had more than a few items in the repository cause mine to bootloop. and this is complicated and frustrating to fix as i'm sure you saw that recovery only has factory reset option. they don't give you superuser permissions out of the box for a reason. theyd loss their ass doing warranty repairs and file bankruptcy. and then no more android. sorry bro better shuck out that 600 bucks for that new iphone that seriously looks exactly like that other iphone when you turn it on. oh, and my sisters tablet after it got the latest update. i've been up too long and i'm babling all this to say i'm searching site for system.img because i dropped and broke my first k7. and when i got the new one and didn't unlock bootloader 2nd time. i feel like jeff goldbloom in jurassic park "they spent so much time trying to figure out whether or not they should they never stop to think about wether or not they should" lol. do you have the system.img? picked up a sweet send_command unbrick method from dealing with a boost stylo. non unlockable bootloader. no custom recovery. this made this unbrick guide and gave up on twrp for it. my girl got one cause i had a metro version thats badass. i love it best bargain out there for the price. but i dropped it out of the attic at workand now the cell radio doesn't work. wifi bluetooth and all are good though and the case did protect the screen but no longer functions as a phone???? go figure got this k7 cause that was all i could afford that very day. a week later i'm bootlooping it being careless even though i know better. this is my little hobbie but my girl gets mad i spend too much time at home so i be trying to do things riding to work in between houses and want to have phone back up and functional before get there cause let's face it. trying to explain that your phone was bootlooping all day and you needed a file off your pc to fix it andthats why havent answered all day only works a few times before it gets ugly. lol. babbling again system.img please?

Read that some one made the KINGROOT TO CHAINFIRE SU conversation but then ended in a bootloop. I need to know if the switch was the cause or was it because of something else? I would love to switch and have a terminal script to do so but not chancing a brick or loop.

I'm so excited!!! once I get my phone back from LG to fix my phone & send it back to me...(they won't let me fix it myself)
Im going to build cyanogenmod & TWRP for LG K7 in the meantime
so here's the download link for the LGMS330 source code...it contains the kernel as well!

I can download the actual source code for the LG ms330(LG K7) yet LG wont send me the same firmware file for me to flash in download mode so I can fix my phone myself...I really did like LG though....but this screwed me on a whole new level.
