After 2 years of rooting, flashing custom roms, what I see the most important things before flashing anything is
1st.. Backup your rom / apps
2nd.. Efs backup

You don't back it up. You can only backup personal settings using many of the utilities available. If you want the original ROM you just get it from your provider or the phones manufacturer or do a Google search and I am sure you will find a source for it. All the kitchens used the original as a base to build on.
Thank you all, i posted the quistion at the general forum and from there i understand that i can "dump" my ROM and turn it to flashablle later.
Wrong device...
Thread closed.
Good morning everyone!
I'd really like to know why installing a custom rom can delete or modify the EFS folder ....
And also why the IMEI of the device is stored in it.
What developers are doing to make it happen???
I did not backup this folder and even if he had done believe it would do.
The folder can not be deleted, nor overwritten ......
I always thought that the IMEI was written on a chip can only be read and not written.
Look my search results about IMEI here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=222446237
And here too:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=222446965
This is absurd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I lost my S3 last week and would like someone to explain to me why this happens .....
Can anyone help me???
I know that many people will read this post looking for a solution to the same problem, but I can not help.
I hope the answer of "developers".
And I hope to see here "indie" and also the "Kryten2k35"

Read the stickies/RTFM.
Why is hard to say because all this text contains no specific details. Best answer, read the imei / efs thread in general > sticky roll-up thread

Hello everyone! I just bought a new S3 under contract with Orange,It does not have the brickbug firmware so all is good. However in relation to the rom changing efs partition format i have a question that i couldn't find an aswer for. I tried flashing the XXEMG4 and newer roms but they would not do anything to my phone except giving me emergency calls...however my phone works with older firmware and basebands but not with the new ones.. Could this be because it is sim-locked? and somehow my efs remains unchanged? or did i get it wrong?
RECAP: the phone works only with older firmware and basebands but not with new (efs changing) roms...giving me weird imei and emergency calls on newer roms etc, basically all the problems that people experience AFTER flash MG roms and trying to go back to older.

Hi,
We have a sticky thread all about IMEI / EFS issues. This is because if you do a search here now, you'll find literally hundreds of threads all about the same thing.
Please go to:
general > Sticky roll-up thread > "IMEI / EFS - Know this stuff"
... have a read. If you have further questions, please feel free to ask them in that thread. We set it up to try and keep the forum tidy.
Thanks
Mod Edit
Please read what ^^^^^^^rootSU^^^^^^^^ says.
Stickies are there for a reason

I have looked around for a while but cant seem to find anything clear. So i made an account.
Will i be able to root my S3 (i9305) and install a custom rom?
Got the phone from T-Mobile UK on contract. I updated to 4.3 when it came through ota.
Sorry for asking :fingers-crossed: but thanks to anyone who replies.
Hello Heych123 and welcome to XDA. First a fair warning .... you will get addicted to this site :silly:
Ok, rooting the S3 I9305 is prety easy, altough i'd like to advice you to read read read before you do do do.
For rooting your device, use / read this thread
[GT-I930x/T/N][SHV-E210*][SHW-M440S] CF-Auto-Root
After you've succesfully rooted your device, i'd advice you to use / read this thread
[APP][4.0+][ROOT] SA Manager (EFS, TA backup & restore)
Lastly, or maybe better yet, start with reading the first four pinned threads on this page.
My last advice would be to keep everything (downloads and stuff) nicely orginized on your PC by putting everything in clearly labeled folders.
Like a folder for root-files ...... and a folder for ROMs ..... and a folder for backups ...... and so on.
Good Luck and have fun !!! :highfive:
