Help! No sound from internal speaker?

This just started randomly the other day... When I call people or people call me, I can't hear the phone dialing, the call connects and the person on the other line can hear me, but I can't hear anything they are saying. Everything works fine if i put it into speaker mode...
I also tried playing music from my mp3 player, no sound... the sound works when i get txt messages and things however, just not when in call or when trying to play mp3z via the speaker.
What could be wrong????
did you try increasing the volume?
yes... ive tried everything I can think of. The phone thinks its in headset mode even though I have nothing plugged in. I've tried plugging in headphones in and out, but it still doesnt work.

The first thing I would do is update your ROM! You don't have to go JB but at least flash an ICS 4.0.4 ROM. There were quite a few changes from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4.
If your sound issue is still there with a new ROM, then we can address it.

OP, you could try to ODIN to stock firmware. If it doesn't help probably the part itself (the earpiece flex cable) is damaged and needs to be replaced. Fortunately, this part only cost 3.91$ on ebay and is easy to replace. (IF you don't have warranty, otherwise just use the warranty).
Also, please check do the following parts work : headphone jack, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor. Because those parts are on the same flex cable as the earpiece.
inverted speaker
i don t no if is any diference.. but i have download gaps and cyanogen.. (before i have install ics passion) i install everything and everything thing seems to be perfect except the same problem.. external speaker only work if plug in my headphones. video sound not work i think calls is in the same.
my android version now is 4.1.1.. i think is the lastest
version of cyanogen is 10 nightly.
i don´t no much more to do.. any help. thanks!!

this problem happen after i root my phone or in the process.. so i think it is strange that cable is dead.. i think after making something at odin, volume keys have changed ( up is down and down is up)
Download and flash a different rom and of course factory reset and format system is important. To the other guy with inverted volume keys, you flashed another devices kernel and/or rom lol.Our phones are Vibrants/t959
Inverted keys
can you tell what rom or kernel should i download?? because if cant find it. thanks!

Did you use Odin to get back to stock?
If not please do so using this guide and files. Where it says step 1. Return to JFD
After that you can get clockworkmod recovery, not Samsung recovery. This guide explains how to do this as well. Once you get this done we can get you set with a new ROM.

Thanks for the help and waiting for new instructions
Reboot your phone into recovery and factory reset and most importantly format system. It's in mounts and storage. Then reflash that passion rom you have. Just for kicks, after it completed reflashing, go to the option called reboot recovery and then do a factory and system wipe again and reflash...You shouldn't have sooo many issues.

That's what I was thinking. You can never over wipe.
Turn off the phone. Might be you have to hold the bottom-middle button + power button (on the top). When it seems to be starting again (could be you have to turn it on again, but not shure) hold the "back button" (bottom right). So you end up where you installed the miniCM from (CWM-based Recovery)... There you should "wipe data/factory reset", and in "advanced" you should "wipe Dalvik cache". Not sure if you need a factory reset, but if you do this you should be in the clear... If not, I think you flashed the wrong rom.

I think a factory reset is essential. I had some problems installing a rom and hunted all over the net for a guide to installing them. Lots of sites say you need to do a factory reset.

[Q] hardware problem reboot S2

Hello everyone.
I expose my problem. My S2 reboot many times without any kind of reason. When? When I press the Power button and the S2 going to sleep (or also when go alone to slepp) the S2 reboot.
I have just do everything, factory reset, deep clean #1 #2 and have clean the usb port, because another problem is this. When I connect the S2 with the usb the S2 going crazy, and show me the window dialog of reboot boot.
So I think there is a problem with the usb module, but I don't want to spend for this before I have the real answer.
Have you ever heard this problem?
Sorry sorry for my English.
Many thank.

Siyah Kernel. I have also used the kernel clean... but nothing, the reboot not stop.
In that case, do a clean install of stock & see if you can reproduce the problem. If it still happens running stock, it's probably some kind of hardware issue. From there you could always reset the flash counter & send it in for warranty service.
If not, then it's obviously a problem of some kind with Siyah/the rom you're using.

[Q] My Samsung Galaxy S II is fully bricked

Yesterday I've start data wipe (going to give the phone to my wife).
Data wiped, started rebooting and I've got a black screen.
Seems the phone is fully dead. It's not turning on, not entering recovery mode (Volume Up+Home+Power), not entering download mode (Volume Down+Home+Power). When I connect charger it does not show battery charging on screen. :crying:
At Samsung Official Service Center they said me that it is motherboard fail and it is need to replace it and it costs $270. F4k them, I sure that this is a software problem, not hardware.
And when battery is in phone, the battery is heating up, so phone is on.
Can I do anything myself?
PS. All manuals here assume that one can enter download mode (Volume Down + Home + Power), but I can't enter it.
You could try using a usb Jig to get to DL mode.

bricked = dead = don't need to cry here on General forum = take it to fix at samsung = if still on warranty, it's free
If the phone is not booting at all (and it doesn't have any signs of life), then it's definitely hardware problem.

The only sign of life - is heating when connecting the battery
But how can this be a problem of hardware, if this problem arose after a reset to factory settings?
Seems that u wiped data on 4.0.4 with stock kernel .. which has the brickbug ( i mean the emmc brickbug , it corrupts the emmc , once it is corrupted, u must replace the entire motherboard ..i had the same problem last week .. sent it to samsung and was out of warranty too)
Sorry for your phone

The software has affected the hardware. Why have you got no warranty?.If you bought the phone 2nd hand then now you can see it wasn't such a good deal.
Samsung should be giving people like you a "goodwill warranty" gesture.

I have a warrany but I thought that it is soft problem and can be solved quickly.
But yesterday evening I took the phone to Samsung official Service Center for warranty. They said it could take more than 2 weeks. Will be waiting.

Yes I told about resetting to factory settings. They accept it anywhere on warranty service.
But you wrong, I have not flashed it! I just choose data wipe/factory reset in standard recovery menu.

Then I took it to a phone repair shop, told me that the problem is not in matherboard but I can solve it in another way by flashing rom without Odin or kies ..
Is there another device that specializes in the installation of devices to Roms..
