[Q] Pasting file to root - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Phone : LG G2 vs980
Rom: paranoid android 4. 0
Android version 4.4
Stock kernel
So I'm trying to put kali Linux onto my phone using the vnc way. I have the file (1gb zipped 3gb unzipped) I have 11gb of free space on my phone. I have to get that file over to /kali a folder I created using root explorer. Yes I am rooted with supersu. I mount the system as r/w and when I paste this file into that folder my phone crashes. Like it begins to do it (gets nothing done) and then crashes. I managed to get the zip file into the folder but when I try to extract it it crashes as well. This Also doesn't work on nexus 7 2013 running slimbean. Why can't I move that file there?

I found the problem : there isn't enough memory on my system partition. But I am not around a computer so I can't adb or anything. Is there an app or something that can change the partition sizes? I'm not touching used space, I have like 11gb free on my SD card and I want to move 2gb of that to system

[Q] Removing Apps from /system/app folder

Hello,
I hv rooted my device (Canvas HD). IT has 4GB Internal memory and out of it 1.77 GB is user usable space. And 1GB is ROM. So doe sthat mean the rest are used by The OS?
Anyway I wen to root and browsed to /system folder using the root explorer, it shows 624.67 MB used and 15.94 MB free. Is it normal?
Why the root explorer shows used and free space only for /system folder?
The /system/app folder shows only .apk and .odex version of some apks. So is this folder only a container of these apps. So can we delete these apps or move it to external SD to make more space inside the /system folder?
Am I going to loose any functionality in the device if I delete few apps inside this /system/app folder?
Please help me.

from my understanding on the subject, and I'm far from an expert, you can delete the apks in the app folder.
i'm in the process of creating a ROM. on my S4 in the app folder, there is SetupWizard.apk. I don't want this to be installed once I flash this. I delete this apk and it wont be on the phone.
now I have a question, hopefully someone can answer...once I delete the SetupWizard.apk are there any other associated files that I need to delete or modify?
To answer both your questions yes there are various apps in /system/app that can be deleted but many of them can cause unwanted issues. Be careful what you delete and always have a backup.
Moving apps from system to SD isn't always a great idea, actually chances are you don't need to create extra space there if your ROM is up and running, most of the time all additional apps should go to your data partition and yes some times its makes sense to put them on SD fat32 or ext partition.
Deleting the setup wizard won't cause any specific harm but the initial setup your phone business will be gone at first boot of a fresh flash.
Just Google search safe to remove system apps to find some hints on what is safe to delete, of course this varies on every phone what kinds of bloat etc is on there

Accidently deleted SDCARD folder.. from Android File Transfer (apple)

So, just said above, while I was cleaning some folders I removed SDCARD folder (sdcard?? what f*king folder is???) from Android File Transfer and the I see at leat 11 Gb memory (before "cleaning" was 80 mb... 16gb sdcard)
Could be restored something? Im osx user.. sdcard memory is removed from phone fisically.
I got some aknowledges about disk image creation and some software recovery but I recovery only photos and video, but I need some others folders.
From phone I see all apps, but from ES File Manager, i see only few folders empty.. but with Android File Transfer, i see all folders but I cannot recovery anything (item not available at copy/paste).
Anything is appreciated.
Thanks

[Q] can't create new folder in external sdcard

Hi,
I bought a z2 yesterday. formatted my old 16gb microsdcard to use in my z2. I can see the folders and the phone can read my card. So i tried to download a file directly to my external card but it showed me a error lik "no valdi folder" or something like that. After i tried to create a new folder in my card using a file explorer but it gives me a error "operation stopped". Any idea why and any solution?

On Android KitKat applications aren't allowed to modify the files on the SDcard. They are only allowed to place files in their own folders on the SDcard (/SDCard/Android/data/app_name if I remember correctly).
You can fix this only by gaining root access and modifying build.prop.

Uch, I was wrong about the build.pro. Actually you need to modify "/system/etc/permissions/platform.xml".
Here is some reference:
http://jrummy-apps.com/fix-sdcard-on-kitkat/
Root access is essential.
You can create a folder if you use the file explorer that came pre installed on the z2, all downloads go to internal storage but can be moved to sd card with 'file commander' this is the only app that can create and move folders to the sd card, apps such as astro and es explorer no longer have the permission.
Maybe I misunderstand the problem, but PocketCast can download and save the files to SD card without any problem. So, if this one can...
Yes PocketCast CAN write to the SD card, but only in its own folder, not everywhere. And it could write to a public folder (there are some defined in the Android SDK).
See Jackos post above...
Only software that is installed as system software may modify the files on the SDcard outside their personal folder. For example the build-in file manager.
File Commander (The built in file manager) is able to read and write to external SD. Use it instead of any other third party file manager app.

ES file explorer encryption on external SD (task failed)

i changed on a different ROM and ES File Explorer can't perform file encryption on my external SD card anymore
but it was ok on my previous ROM
i tried different ROMs (based on CM13 also) but i still cant encrypt files on my external SD card
i always clean flash (wipe data/system) when i changed to a new ROM
thank you
(error says like this)
Could not open file /storage/
extSdCard/lockFile.pbx for the
reason: /storage/extSdCard/
lockFile.pbx: open failed: EACCESS
(Permission denied)

It is a MM limitation, even with Root access, ES cannot decrypt these files on SD any more! You can move the files to sd/android/data/(es folder)

Nope. I had used ES encyption at extsdcard in my LG Magna with stock MM and worked fine.
But i can't use in Samsung Galaxy Note II with RR rom 7.1.2.
I can encrypt only at storage/extsdcard(or anything)/android/data/com.estrongs.android.pop/ folder. The file that you want to encrypt, must move to the folder.
Problem solved. You need rooted phone and with Lucky patcher or Titanium backup app convert ES file explorer to system app.
With this you will be able to encrypt/decrypt on internal or sd card memory.
This worked for me.
But be careful, it will erase your .eslock encrypted files (this happend to me ) so backup your encryped files.

Can't save anything to the internal storage

Hello! I recently flashed the official linage os 16 nightly rom and opengapps following wing the instructions from lineage wiki. The rom successfully booted but i cant save any file to the internal storage even though it has around 40 gb free space. The camera app says sd card error cant use camera, cant download or play any media file or document from whatsapp, gmail. Even chrome cant save any file to internal storage. i can access the internal storage using file manager but it shows only the android folder and nothing else(movies, music, pictures etc. which are created by default). When i connect my phone to pc, it doesnt show any folder inside the internal storage and cant move/copy any file to it. Although i can use the adb push command to move files while in twrp recovery. So, i reverted back to the stock color os6 but now, it also has the same error. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
