If the Important DATA is stored in ur phones Internal Sdcard (the 11.5 gb partition) then u can safely flash any stock firmware from ODIN
for stock firmwares u can check.
www.samfirmware.com or www.sammobile.com
and u can easily search for a video guide on youtube on how to flash a stock firmware on i9100 using ODIN.

......or you could check the stickyed threads on this forum right here on XDA for Odin flashing instructions.... No need to look elsewhere on the web when everything you need is RIGHT HERE......
This might be my S2, or it might be my W...but it's definitely CM

well its a CWM prob
1. search threads for how to flash stock rom back via odin
2. re root and install cwm
3. Install the correct rom

well modded roms are like for example
some devs take the stock rom push their kernals with some minor or major tweaks
it might be in UI or apps or can be of anything
in simple works taking a stock rom or any other rom and overlaying it with some tweaks

I am familiar with flashing. I had the LG Optimus LTE before this and flashed quite a few roms, This phone however has me awfully confused. I have been researching all day. And so far i am under the understanding that the touch cwm are not good and the use the 4.0.1.5 recovery. But what i don't understand is how do you install roms without wiping data/factory reset through cwm? don't most roms require this? and isn't that what causes the superbrick? Sorry for sounding like a noob. but can you tell me how you do your flashing?

Just use a different kernel, like siyah (www.gokhanmoral.com and make it's for the s2 not s3). Then you can wipe data. Just didn't not be on 4.0.4, and have a samsung based kernel (the kernel dev should have info in the op). Once you're on a safe kernel you can flash whatever you want and wipe data.

Yes I wiped data, cache and dalvik cache. Couldn't get into recovery so i just re-flashed my firmware via odin. All is good now and successfully flashed cm9 with no issues. Must have been a bug in the rom.

> need help before i risk flasing my first rom <

This is my first post and i was wondering if people could answer some questions i have.
First off heres my phones specs
Samsung galaxy s2
Model number
GT-I9100
Android version
4.0.3
Baseband version

Kernel version
3.0.15-I9100XXLPQ-CL223505

I've rooted my phone using rachmat3 method and thats how far i've got because only just got phone as a gift and im scared to flash a new rom incase i brick my phone.
Is it safe to use the cwm.zip to flash a rom that i used from rachmat3 root method or do i need a updated version of cwm?
Can someone recommend a fully working paranoid android rom that i can use for daily use?
Which kernel would be best to use with paranoid android rom?
Should i flash a kernel before i flash a rom?
If i install paranoid android rom would i then have a permanant cwm on my device or would i still need to use my temporery cwm.zip?
What is the chances of me bricking my phone?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Flash what ever rom u want till its for GT-I9100
No need to worry
Just read the specific rom instructions carefully
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Yes mate now u can flash any Rom ....Just read the instruction before flashing
I would advise you to flash a safe kernel first before doing any wipe and flashing any roms. Siyah is a safe bet.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
1. Download ROM Manager and you'll be able to flash any ROMs you wish using that.
2. All the PA versions are working fine, so just browse through and choose for yourself.
3. Asking questions like that is against forum rules because they often lead to arguments. The best advice is just to download and flash different kernels and stick with which ever one you're happy with.
4. It really doesn't matter in which order you flash them. The result is still the same. I personally always flash the ROM first, but it doesn't make a difference.
5. If you use ROM Manager, as mentioned previously, even if you have to do a full wipe when flashing a different ROM, it doesn't matter because you can simply download it again anyway. Or just save it to your SD card.
6. The changes if bricking your phone are higher if you're worried about it. Just be sure to read all instructions given about installation and follow them perfectly and you'll be fine.
If after reading about flashing ROMs you are still worried, then you're better off waiting for a bit until you've done more research into what exactly is needed.
I'm a product of the system I was born to destroy!
Thanks for your replys.
just follow the steps mentioned and follow some video (like on youtube) and it'll be easy!

I don't recommend using ROM Manager since it can brick the phone.
Why don't flash custom kernel and use real CWMR?

Most ROM zips include kernels, so if somebody wants to stay with the same kernel, then it's necessary to flash custom kernel again.

Just coz i have no pc to revive a bricked phone and i wont beable to check online for solutions as my phone will be bricked.

You will need a pc if for example you flash a kernel and somethings not right. You cant get cwm, only download mode.
That happened to me when I flashed a siyah kernel.Phone was stuck and I couldnt boot into cwm.Only way to fix was boot to download mode and use odin/pc.

[Q] Impossible to update to stock JB 4.1.2

Hi, I have been having troubles updating my samsung galaxy S2 GT-i9100 from the rooted stock 4.0.3 XWLP7 to the last version of the official JB 4.1.2 for Spain.
I have downloaded the JB rom from Sammobile, decompressed it and installed it using Odin 3.04 but I got stucked in a Samsung's Logo boot loop.
I entered again in recovery mode and did a wipe data/factory reset and a wipe cache but it didn't fix the problem, also pull out the battery for some minutes and made a wipe again and nothing fix the problem.
Is there anybody here with another idea that not be a full wipe or to pull out the battery?
Thanks in advance
Wrong thread buddy..should ve in q+a..Anyway,you can try flashing it via mobile odin.it will give you the option to root the firmware you are flashing.Obviously the firmware will be as a tar file which mobile odin is designed to flash, and it will flash the relevant files for you.Ifyou need any more help just pm me.Oh and hit thanks!

Do you think that will be necesary to flash the .pit file? Could be a problem with the partition table? I have tried with Omega ROM v20, several stock JB roms and CynogenMod 10.1 and all of them didn't boot. The only rom that I was able to flash was the same stock rom 4.0.3 that I already have.

Lol you don't need to be rooted inorder to flash a stock ROM
1. Yes you can flash a JB firmware directly
Go to here and find your fitting firmware. You can check by going to setting>about phone
Do you know how to flash this stock rom with Odin?
*edit - you will be unrooted when you flash stock JB rom so you will have to root it again using any JB-rooting method

Not this method. Im waiting for op /mod to give me edit rights.
In mean time go to general > sticky roll-up and read "understanding the basics" I have links in there for rooting

Hi guys i'm new to the forum as well, i rooted my SIII (european version) some days ago using this --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238 and worked great. It was pretty simple and quick, maybe u can use it too (not sure if asian firmware changes something)

Like I just said DO NOT use this method. Chainfire no longer supports it but worse than that, cwm it comes with does not prevent SDS. Do NOT use this method.

Thanks, i flashed the new cwm that should have SDS fix
So i guess it should be fine to use the cf root and then just update the recovery, right? i mean there's not a big chance of sds on first recovery use

That's exactly the same as using cf auto root. So why not just use that?
Or just flash recovery if you don't need root. You don't need root if you're flashing a custom rom.
This is ALL covered in general > sticky roll-up > understanding the basics before rooting

I guess the best thing is to check the main features of latest stable roms (based on stock firmware if you want all samsung features) and then try the ones you like the most..
I wanted to try android 4.3 and eliminate all the samsung (mostly useless for me) stuff, so i checked some threads in the forum and now i'm trying the supernexus 3 rom, it's pretty good, with not many customizations, but very lightweight..
