[Q] Install RUU 3.17 root before or after root? - AT&T HTC One (M7)

Greetings I have a HTC ONE AT & T, before I had a HTC ONE XL, and had the bootloader unlocked, S-OFF and SuperCID, so this applies to factory rom 4.0.4, then apply the RUU aT & T last of which is 3.18, and it worked to perfection ... My question is: 1 - I have to unlock the bootloadre, Root, S-Off and SuperCID as my M7, now, or apply the RUU 3.17 first, then proceed to unlock the bootloader, ROOT, S-off and SuperCID? ?
Sorry for my bad English

you should be able to OTA to 3.17 if your phone is new
s-off is possible on 3.17 with rumrunner
so the correct steps would be
take OTA update
then HTCDEV.com to unlock bootloader
install custom recovery (TWRP 2.6.3.3)
Make nandroid backup
Install Root and custom Rom (like ARHD 31.6)
then S-off with Rumrunner.us

I want to update it, I downloaded the ROM SkyDragon_New_Year_v_5, and I have to manually install the Boot, and does not respond when you start the Back button, probe and installing InsertCoin ROM does not work ... Downloading Curtain CleanROM second time to see if I can install it, and I still have the factory 4.1 ROM and as commented already unlocked the bootloader, S-OFF, SuperCID and ROOT

so all you really need is a rom and firmware update
Also so you know the 4.4 roms require s-off and this recovery
openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-m7.img
here's your firmware
(Credit to @dark2099 for providing the OTApkg.zip)(latest) ATT 4.3 Official OTA 3.17.502.3 Firmware/Not From The RUU (Boot.img & Recovery.img removed) ---> http://d-h.st/YDI
From @nkk71 Guide
Rename the downloaded file to firmware.zip (careful about firmware.zip.zip in Windows)
In bootloader/FASTBOOT USB, flash it:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip <- yes TWICE, the first one will report “failed flush again”, the second one will succeed.
fastboot reboot-bootloader

As for which Rom, it's a matter of opinion. I use ViperOne, InsertCoin, MaximusHD, ARHD, and Stock Rooted ..depending on whats new.

[Q] how to restore HTC Evo 3d to original firmware without locking the bootloader?

hello everyone
I recently installed KingCobra3D ICS 1.2 ROM on my EVO 3D, and it was running well until all of a sudden it started having many issues of turning off while the screen is sleeping (it wont turn back on until I do a battery pull), rebooting, and wont turn on until I do multiple battery pulls. First I thought it was the kernel, so I reflashed the kernel along with the ROM many times, and it still does those issues. My question is, how dp I go back to the original stock Gingerbread firmware without relocking the bootloader? I flashed the ICS ROM, not firmware.
EDIT: I tried restoring my backup from the recovery, but the phone didn't boot after that
any help is greatly appreciated. thanks

Hello madmajd,
S-ON as your phone is you can not flash boot.img(kernel) from the recovery.
Extract boot.img from your gingerbread rom.zip and flash-it from fastboot
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
reboot in recovery, do a full wipe
and flash your rom
sincerely,

While its true YOU CAN flash the kernel that way its not needed with HTC Unlock...
If u enter your recovery via fastboot command prompt ( fastboot boot your recoveryfilename.img), roms And KERNELS WILL flash like normal from the recovery. Here's some extra info I pm'd to another gsm user...
mpgrimm2 said:
Some key points:
- The ICS /ICS Leaked roms (3.6/4.0) typically have trouble booting the stock kernel on several HTC Unlocked phones. This doesn't seem to occur on S-off phones. (Boot loops are usually a sign of a kernel issue).
- I am on a Sprint CDMA EVO3D & have no idea how to s-off your gsm version/downgrade the bootloader.
- I do have an HTC Unlocked guide in my signature that covers many of the basics for the CDMA version. It's the same process/steps for gsm, but the files used need to be gsm specific from the gsm threads (recovery, kernel, roms, etc).
- If u decide to run an Ruu (exe or zip), you must be locked/relocked & run the same or higher firmware version as currently installed. The exe will work with the phone booted to android or with the bootloader in "fastboot usb". The zip must be renamed exactly PG86IMG.zip and put directly on the root of the sdcard & boot into the bootloader.
- If the phone boots to the bootloader, you can use fastboot command prompt to " unlock" the phone again with your unlock code. Then fastboot flash the recovery again (4ext or Cwm 4.0.1.4 gsm versions recommended), then fastboot boot the recovery, run a superwipe (or format system, data & cache), & flash a gingerbread Rom or one of your nand backups.
- The correct HTC unlocked flashing process (ICS or GB) is to enter recovery via fastboot command prompt, format/superwipe, & flash the Rom (and/or kernel) as you normally would. (4ext Recovery is a solid workaround to using fastboot commands)

Doing what?
You might want to consider upgrading your firmware and getting S-OFF status. I have a guide here that can help.

Too late!
Ok so I followed someone's note to me that said I needed to relock the phone first. So following the instructions for relocking I did the "fastboot oem lock" and now I am "Relocked" but the phone only boots now to Bootloader/Fastboot.
What do I do now?
All I really want to do at this point is get the phone back working. I don't care about root as this phone is going to someone else.
Thanks

Hi
I think you need to downgrade to HBOOT 1.49.007 Because versions 1.50.00 and above have a restart issue with custom ROMS
The bad new is that you must spend your HTC EVO 3D S-OFF
I followed this thread to downgrade
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=17434661
Follow this thread to return to 1.49.007 version of hboot
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1906172
If you really want to s-on your phone after this downgrade, you can enter
fastboot oem writesecureflag 3
in fastboot mode, but i don't recommend it
Pay attention to these manipulations and does not hesitate to completely read all the tutorials and all comments.
goodbye,

1) I am on gingerbread. S-OFF but not rooted. I have a T-mobile OTA update for ICS. Can I download safely?
What I was going to do is just download that and un-root it the same way I did when doing the S-OFF process. Can't it just be that easy!
2) If not is this the correct way that will work with JUOPUNUT bear?

You have two options:
1. Restore the stock recovery and proceed with the update, it won't do anything but update the system files, it may or may not remove the JB hboot, though I recommend you restore the stock GB hboot since updates tend to cancel when the hboot is higher than the one being installed, which the JB hboot version is set higher so as to prevent any new updates from over writing it.
or
2. Download the stock ICS ruu from the ruu/ota thread and install it via hboot by renaming the file PH85IMG and placing it on your sd card.
No reason to get suspicious, it's okay.

[Q] Return ICS to Stock

Hello! I'm running Scott's ROM ICS S-ON. I'm not looking to S-OFF unless absolutely necessary; I don't prefer messing up with a bricked phone.
I want to update to the official ICS OTA distributed by Verizon. I haven't found a post that has any information on how to do this with S-ON Relocked and a Relocked Bootloader.

Is the new RUU the one from the Android Police website? Yes, I unlocked the bootloader via HTC Dev, and I just relocked "fastboot oem lock".
I have it rooted, so I guess now it can't boot, as it only boots into bootloader.

Alright, I'll try that. If I come up with any errors (I'll be sure if it's one), I'll come back and talk of it.

No, you don't need to flash stock recovery. The RUU will do that for you. Just make sure you're locked before you flash the RUU. Unlock and re flash your choice of recovery after RUU is complete.

Okay so I've never flashed an RUU to my device, only flashed custom ROMs based on the ICS leaks. My H-Boot still says 2.11 meaning I'm on gingerbread firmware (correct me if I'm wrong). [Q] Get bootloader unlocked and I already have S-OFF

Hey! A while ago I rooted my phone using the revolutionary method. Later I reverted back to stock and locked the bootloader. However the S-OFF remained. A few minutes ago I had 1.53 HBOOT and ICS stock. But now I got HBOOT 1.49.0007 and I wanna use revolutionary tool to unlock bootloader yet again. But now it gives me an error saying, "Failed to get root! "
Is there another way to get rooted WITHOUT using the HTC method since I already got S-OFF and 1.49.0007 HBOOT? I don't feel comfortable using HTC's method....

I think the "Failed to get root!" message is because HTC patched the tacoroot exploit in the ICS builds that was being used for temp root with the GB builds.
Why do you want to unlock the bootloader? If you want to run the additional fastboot commands you should be able to just flash the JBear version of the current bootloader, or does that cause problems on the GSM model?
ramjet73
Since you are S-OFF you can flash whatever bootloader you want. I don't know revolutionary method, I was using jbear to get S-OFF. After S-OFF i flashed RUU and I was on stock 1.53.007 locked bootloader with S-OFF and i couldn't root my phone. I've flashed hboot from this site:
http://unlimited.io/jbhboots.htm
There you have 2 versions of GSM Evo 3d hboots. After that you can do everything with your phone. Good luck!

Any ideas?
I have tried to repair premissions after the install of Super User. I have also updates Super User from Market after Install due to force close after the fresh install from CWM

Follow method B (steps 1 to 14 if you want to be on rooted stock) and it should be ok. If I remember correctly, there is a 4ext recovery to download, maybe try this one. Good luck!
