Hi folks.
I'm moving to Australia in March and was curious if this phone would function there, with proper SIM, etc.
I am using i605 in India for the last 8 months.... Works great... Hope you got your answer
Thanks,

It should. Note II is a world phone and is sim-unlocked. Some software versions have APN settings uneditable... if you can;t edit those, you will not have a data connection on your Aussie carrier... check the following:
system settings --> wireless and networks --> more --> mobile networks --> Access Point Names
if you can add and edit APNs from the menu above, you are good to go.
it also cant hurt to check what bands the major carriers (optus?) use in Australia and confirm that the Note II also operates on them
I'm rooted and can edit apns.
I know AU is quadband which I believe the I605 is based on what the google machine told me
Yeah, I would say you are good to go then. I'd still do some research on Aussie phone companies just to be sure (and also know which carrier is the best value).

just for reference of anybody researching this later:
Quad-Band refers to a phone being able to operate on all 4 GSM Bands... aka it will work ANYWHERE.
The Note II is listed as: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900

This map shows what bands are used in what countries:

i also made some research and i got this explanation:
3G/WCDMA
What is 3G/WCDMA ?
Developed by the global GSM community as its chosen path for 3G evolution, WCDMA is the air interface for one of the International Telecommunications Union's (ITU's) family of third-generation mobile communications systems.
3G/WCDMA (Third Generation / Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) enables the continued support of voice, text and MMS services in addition to richer mobile multimedia services such as
* Music
* TV and video
* Entertainment content
* Internet access
but still my question when i flash my Rom which way i should go (GSM or CDMA)?????????????????
i mean is there any rom like original from htc pro(for both)
when i try to update the Rom from HTC site and i had to enter my serial# it came back that the Rom not suitable for my Device????
so for examplae if i would bought the phone unlocked sim free and insert my current Softbank Usim card should work fine . right ??? cause the phone handle GSM andW-cdma
so i am confused and dont know what i should be doing???
please help.
thanks

Sorry I'm another noob to android.
I have an unlocked but branded O2 GT-I9100, I am trying to use a Tesco sim, everything works apart from the mobile internet. I have manually set up the Tesco APN on numerous occaisions but still can't it. When I put an O2 sim in, everything works perfectly.! I have tried vodafone sim and it's the same as Tesco. It seems like the firmware is somehow blocking anything but O2 from accessing the data connection. Is there an easy soloution.? thanks
model : GT-I9100
Android version: 4.0.3
Baseband version: I9100XXLPW
Kernal version: 3.0.15-I9100XWLD-CL524746 [email protected]#3
Build number: IML74K.XWLPD
Remove all APN's. Add only the Tesco APN, ensuring you choose 'default' as APN type. Reboot. Check to ensure the Tesco APN hasn't gone away after you've rebooted. Test.
If you've already done the above, I'm tipping the phone's locked (it does sound that way from the details in your post; you're having the same problem with two sims/different carriers).
O2 phones are meant to be unlocked anyhow....same as unbranded.
Can you confirm youve had the phone since new.
It shouldn't matter if the phone is locked or not as Tesco use o2s masts and so the phone won't know the difference
If voice calls work then presumably that proves the phone is unlocked and it is therefore most likely to be an APN settings issue?
I use a GiffGaff SIM in an unlocked SII GT-I9100 which operates in the same way as Tesco (both run as 'virtual operators' on the O2 network). Once the GiffGaff APN settings are applied the data connection works fine for me.
Maybe you can post the exact settings you're using for your Tesco APN configuration and someone can take a look at them.
Alternatively, are there any apps that help with APN settings? Tweakker, for example, claims to cover Tesco Mobile so might help. Note that there is a separate "Tweakker ICS APN Beta" for Android 4.x devices.

Thank You All for replying, I have fixed the problem. I have de-branded O2 from the phone and the APN is now working on all networks
using Odin3
Firmware: I9100XWKF1
Andriod Version: v4.0.3
By 'debranding' do you mean you flashed a different rom/CSC or simply removed all the guff/apps carriers put in their stock roms ?
Edit - Glad you got it sorted BTW

I Flashed the firmware and now it's like straight from the factory.. lol
Which firmware (I.E which carrier's stock rom or was it unbranded UK, or something else entirely ?) single file in PDA section of Odin or multi-part ? Reason I'm asking is if someone else has a similar problem, your solution might give them some clues as to how to fix it if we know exactly what you did.
This is what I did

I googled the problem, and found a website that de-brands, even tho I could probably find the software for free, I bought it (£9.99) and followed the instructions :
C:\Program Files (x86)\FoneFunShop i9100 Debrand Pack\Guide\I9100_Guide.html
Hope someone finds this useful

Hi everyone,
I have the LG Optimus L90 D415 from T-mobile. I'm in Europe using a different carrier and I can only connect to 2G (EDGE). Following the instructions I found, I configured properly the APN and tried to change the radio to "Euro band" from the *#*#4636#*#* menu but when I press the option "Select radio band" I don't have any options to choose, just the title "Set GSM/UMTS band".
I didn't find any custom ROM to check if it changes. Can you please help me?
Thank you in advance.
It may be under the menu found via 3845#*415# ,
Theres radio settings to enable band 2100. Not sure if it will work without a new anntena in your phone. Tmobile US do not use full 2100 band but a cdma subset.
Failing that i think your wasting your time with roms. Try updating the firmware for your anntena. Perhaps the firmware from the 405 model but update firmeware with cation
Did u get it working ?

After enabled is it possible disable it?
hi
Did it work?
The T-Mobile version of the phone does not support UMTS (3g) on band 1 for the 2100 Mhz frequency as many European and other countries use, so that's most likely why there aren't any options, because nothing you could change would make a difference.
Help
Any solution for enabling WCDMA 2100 band 1 on LG-D415 ?
Hey,
I bought the 06 model in Canada. I've moved home to Europe.
Now all apps are priced in dollars, not Euro. I also just found out that various apps don't even appear in the store but they do on everyone else's phone. Some apps also say region not supported so they won't even allow me to download.
I flashed an 03 generic FTF. Everything worked except 4G. I didn't even get 3G. I used exactly the settings the network advises. No luck. So I flashed the custom firmware ftf of the new European network, same problem. Next I flashed the original Canadian network custom firmware and 4G works perfectly, no settings needed, the network installs the right settings immediately. I checked them, they're the same I inserted before.
How to solve this? Ideally I'd like to use generic European firmware, have 4G and see local apps.
P.s. My phone is network unlocked, and I noticed a tremendous speed difference with 4G back, it's not just a symbol issue.
Thanks

Hi, I need help.
So, I bought 2 moto E 2015 model (at&t unlocked) from Ebay - very cheap.
But this phones working with only 2G mode in my country (even theese are LTE models ).
I want to reinstall system to better one - which there is no any at&t default applications or any of carrier applications.
And I also want to change baseband versions - because, this phone working only with 2G network type with my country's mobile carriers. I think it should be for baseband (network standarts) .
is it possible to fix problem with change firmware and baseband to no-contract version?
I asked my mobile carrier, they said, "we are using 900-1800 MHZ for GSM ; 900-2100 for 3G, 2100 for LTE (up to 2100)
Who can provide how to and links?
Thanks.
The AT&T model cannot be bootloader unlocked, so you cannot change the firmware to another version. There's a guide in the General forum about enabling additional LTE bands, you can try tweaking it for 3G, but there's no guarantee that the AT&T model's antenna hardware can support those bands.
