I'm not talking about apps, I'm talking about data like music, pictures, movies.....I have 16gb S4 with a 32GB extsd card and running safestrap with a stock rom and 2 rom slots for custom roms with no memory issues whatsoever

I don't know what I'm doing different if anything. I've tried leaving the stock rom in the Safe Side with safestrap and end up with about 9GB free. Then I installed Hyperdrive in the past to a slot and by the time I add in my apps to it, ect.. I end up with a measily 1 to 2 GB and not near enough room for a 2nd slot, thus my installs of Hyperdrive have been going into the stock slot because of this but now that seems to have caused me a setback in using slots for anything likely because I upgraded clear to MK2 bootloader and HD is MJ7 based so even with the module to make it work, the slot installs aren't working anymore.
Ok, I went a bit off topic but thought I would throw that in there because OUR whole ideas here are saving space on our little 16GB phones. lolz :highfive:

As in the files (types) you mentioned, Yes, media, camera, videos, any other extra files outside of the apps themselves, yes!
I even tried moving some apps which will permit to SDcard storage to no avail. Still can't free up anything like the space you mention.

Attached is the picture from my storage page. Prior to this I deleted a few apps and I thought I had enough space to download GTA Vice City. Halfway through is stopped and had an available space error. What was downloaded was still appearing in memory so I went into recovery and wiped both the cache and delvik cache. I also wiped the play store app and google services framework data and caches so I could try to reset the issue. Since then other apps have been unable to update or download due to "insufficient space", and google music won't play because of it. How can I get this cleared up?
I am running stock android rooted with clockworkmod touch recovery.
Thanks
Try folder mount app in market to free up all that space. I haven't tried it personally but I heard it works for some.
Moves big apps to sdcard and link them as if they were installed on phones memory.

Ok I have 2 16gb sd cards 1 formated extsd with 4gb free out of 16gb and the 2nd card is fat format with 15.1gb free out of 16gb. I have a vzw gs4, and I use SafeStrap, I waqnted to do a back, so I installed the fat32 with 15gb available and it was trying to make the back up on the internal which didnt have enough memory, So then I put the exfat sd with 4gb available, and I was able to make the backup on that sd, I thought that fat worked on every gs4 and the exfat was the buggy one, Is it just a loki safestrap thing? TIA
Hope I get an answer, Its been a while since anyone has posted in here, Thanx again...

exFAT is a newer format that's Microsoft proprietary. The primary advantage over FAT32 is that it allows files greater than 4 Gb.
So, the likely problem is that your backup was bigger than 2Gb and couldn't be stored on FAT32.
Just a guess since you didn't say exactly what you used for the backup.
And exFAT isn't buggy, it's just less frequently supported.
Hope this helps.

Greetings,
I have been busy with this for 4-5 days now and nothing works.
i just resetted everything and started from scratch.
can anyone explain me how i change internal to external memory i gotten a :
64 GB Mobile Ultra microSDXC card Class 10 (30MB/s) SanDisk
And my firmware is:
4.2.2
My Phone is:
Samsung galaxy s4 GT-I9505
Hope someone can help this noob out.
Need my phone to be ready befor end of the weekend (holliday)
So all the help is welcome.
Installed:
Clockwork installed now
Superuser rights.
only need help how to install the external to internal memory now.
Im not quite sure what youre getting at but ill give it a shot. Theres no way to swap the internal to external memory. Apps and their data get stored on the internal storage. By default theres only a couple things you can have saved to the external memory card. There is an app called folder mount that allows you to save apps/data on the memory card though.

Thats a mod, i generally refer to conventional means of doing stuff. Anyway ive never used that and it doesnt store everything on the sd. Apps still get saved to internal storage while data/resources get saved to external. Like I said I would check out folder mount. See if that suits your needs.

Once you install a custom recovery yoj cant boot to stock recovery because its overwritten by the custom version. Thats a mega thread for everything i9500 and i9505. I would try reflashing the recovery to see if it fixes it. If not you might have to odin back to stock. This is also the verizon specific forum for the s4 so posting in your devices specific forum would probably get you more help.

ill try the folder mount hope it works becoas my phone is full fast when i download a couple of games.
Not a problem. Glad i could point you in the right direction. If you made any backups you might want to move those to external storage. They are fairly large. I have a couple 1 gig+ games and several smaller ones and still have 5 or 6 gigs left.

Well the main problem was when i install a couple of games the main memory is full way to fast
thats why i wanted and hoped the swap would help the problem.
tho i just made more problems and consumed to mutch time :silly:
i think i just have to stick around on the problem and hope samsung will fix of have a solution to this in time.
i did not make any backups. so i just have to start frome scratch tomorrow.
thanks for all the help again and gl helping others.
You could also try the app Folder Mount in the Play Store here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devasque.fmount&hl=en this will allow you to put the "data" folders associated with larger apps on the SD card. If you are looking to swap internal to external memory the other suggested thread will help you do that. There are pro's and cons to it and when you factory reset or change ROM's you need to do it all over again.
I searched the forums and I don't see anything sorry if I missed it. Is there a work around to save apps to sd card? Tried updating some apps and phone is telling me insufficient storage. Thanks for your help in advance. I have it set to go to sd card but when I got to where the apps are to move or what have you there is nothing to move to sd.

Apps to sd card?
Anyone have any ideas how to get apps to sd card tried deleting some apps due to insufficient space (can't even update a app) deleted 3 apps and still can't download Folder Mount as suggested. Any help would be much appropriated as I am stuck can't update apps or install like this. Did I miss a work around in the OP?
How bad is your storage situation? In terms of MB available?
Also, do you already have Titanium Backup installed? If so, just back up a bunch of apps to your SD card, delete the installs, and then restore from the backups after you've got Folder Mount running and your storage cleared up.

As a reminder, the "/mnt/sdcard" device is INTERNAL memory on this phone. You want to move your apps to /mnt/extSdCard, which is the microsd slot.
I've never tried it, but pretty sure I saw an option in Titanium Backup to move app to sd.

No, you can't just move them there. Applications won't be recognized if you just pick them up and move them.
If you choose to use Folder Mount, that's where you want to move things to.

Ok never mind. That isn't going to work. I can't download folder mount that is kind of my problem. out of space when I have plenty. as shown in the screen shots. So basically I am going to have to wipe everything and use my titanium backup to restore apps? I have a feeling even if I erase all of the apps it will still say that as I have so much storage free(internal). Sigh
There are multiple me7 based ROMS that can be flashed that have native app to sd

I haven't pulled the battery oddly enough..(you would think that I would have done that first)... I will try that when I get home as it is in a otterbox case and I am at work and it's a pain to get out. As far as ME7 Builds go last I heard once you flash to a ME7 build you would be stock on ME7. Which I am not trying to do. I am happy with touchwhiz at the moment. Not really into the plain dark look as it is just that to plain for me. Which Rom where you suggesting that you can revert back to a MDK build with? I have a nandroid already. But I tried deleting apps to see if if would let me download it and all it does is delete that app and I can't put the app i just took off back on. With all the storage available. Just kind of baffled that no one has really ran into this. I have TWRP on it now. I might switch it to 4EXT Recovery as it just has way more options.
1. Deleted apps no difference
2. Deleted Cache no difference (TWRP style wipe)
3. When I get off going to try and wipe Delv/Cach (see if that does anything)
4. If all else fails I will do a complete wipe and start with that app.(Even though you can just change the file destination in root explorer to go to sd card. There is also 2 places it stores on your phone you have a internal sd and a emulated storage. I believe this is wear the hang up is being caused.
Just seems strange that you are getting any type of error with the amount of internal storage you have available. When you get an app from tue store itsaves to your phones internal storage, which is not even close to being full. Also if you are rooted you can go back and forth between MDK and ME7 builds. Devs dont really mess with bootloaders when making roms...

You shouldn't need to wipe your stock slot, not to mention I'm pretty sure things would get screwy if you wiped that then tried to only run on a ROM slot.
There are plenty of people who run 2-3 ROMs + their stock slot.
You just need to make sure everything is being sent to your external SD Card ( you do have one right? )
Go to the play store and grab Disk Usage , it can show you what is taking up all your storage space.
My guess is youre going to just have to erase some things, and move some things. You have to remember, mostly everything defaults to saving to your "SD Card" which is actually just the internal memory.
Also, these phones say they have 16gb internal memory... But its actually more like 9.59gb of usable memory.

Well that's one way to help the situation. People certainly do use just the stock slot for ROMs but it just depends on how comfortable you are.

Seems my internal storage is split in 2 I want to feed my three gig some of that unneeded eight gig that's just sitting there... Do I need an unlocked boot loader in order to have that option?

Our phones have 16gb,4gb is reserved for the system,4gb for apps and 8gb for other stuff.
And we can't change that...
