Do you have the stock messaging app installed, or are you using Hangouts? I don't know about Hangouts as I uninstalled it, but for the stock messaging app there is an option to turn the vibration on in the notification settings of the app. By default it's set to never vibrate. This can be changed to "Only when silent" or "Always".
Thanks dude (Y)

Can you stop the phone from turning the screen on when you receive a text message?

I don't think there's anyway to do it through the stock messaging app. Maybe through chomp sms or handcent?

Yes, through Handcent.
are you using the puzzle lock ( on by default on the vibrant ) is so turn it off ....
settings>sound n display>un_check puzzle lock
This doesn't work. Notifications still turn the screen on even with the puzzle lock disabled.
Hello, I am looking for application that can set a different ringtone, vibration mode for each contact
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Just edit the contact through phonebook and assign your ringtones.
Not sure about different vibration modes though.
But in this way I can't set a notification for SMS for any contact.

Use an sms client like handcent then.
Search is your friend.
Any ideas to why my vibrate text notification is not working, and maybe have a possible fix? All other haptic feedback is working just no notification. Yes, I've checked my settings.

how about going to message setting....click on text message and then click menu button and check if vibrate is selected or check marked...
That fixed it for me!

How to modify vibration strenght (intensity) and number for each alert.
for example, in go sms pro i could choose the number of times it vibrated and how intense it would be, it was perfect!.
Unfortunately, i do not want to use go sms pro...so i tried some other apps but their vibration intensity was way too low...i need it to be more intense than the default one, not too much, but more anyways....

R: Custom vibration alerts??
Oh i forgot to specify: ive already tried intensifying the vibration thru samsung settings: it works. Its not perfect, but its good.
What im interested in, other than possibly having it set a little higher (in terms of intenseness) is custom vibration for sms notificationS. If i go to "sound" in the settings i can set a custom vibration for the phone calls, but not the messages. To do that i have to go in sms app(stock) and settings from there, they have almost no settings for vibration (just enabling it and having it repeat a notification after a min of 2 MINUTES, how messed up is that?).
Anyways i tried other apps like vybe and stuff, and they DO manage to set up custom notification patterns, but the vibration intenseness is reset to minimum...sucks...
I wanted to specify this just to anticipate any answers that could not be concerning my problem.
