- scoutdriver73's method: sp flash tool hint me that it can download only a full image
- root with recovery method: script doesn't recognize when i confirm on smartphone for the reset, same for root option in mtk droid tools
- this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2332783 for extract boot.img and recovery.img and fix root permission with mtk droid tool, i get this error: 0 [main] gzip 4324 find_fast_cwd: WARNING: Couldn't compute FAST_CWD pointer when i load my recovery.img on mtk tool.
i noticed there is a size difference between TWRP img i downloaded from web (5640Kb) and the one i extrated directly from phone (6144kb)

(LATE REPLY) This is how I rooted my a390
I noticed the post is 10 months ago, but I'm replying right now because there may be other users hunting for root solutions for this device.
How to root your Lenovo a390:
1. Download Framaroot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276
Framaroot is an Android app created by XDA user alephzain. It allows you to root your device directly from your Android device-please click on link above to view full compatibility list. Download and Install this app. If it says "Installation blocked", go to your phone's Settings>Security and tick the "Unknown Sources" box. (Believe me, there are n00bs )
2. Open Framaroot. For the a390, there is only one exploit-Boromir, since it's a Mediatek powered device. Select Boromir.
3. Now you see two buttons: Install Superuser and Install SuperSU. You need to select only one of them. Framaroot will then root your device and install Superuser/SuperSU. (Superuser/SuperSU are apps which control root operations on your device ie. ensure no app uses root features without your permission-it is a MUST.)
The choice is up to you, but I'd recommend Superuser since it's like the Industry standard of rooted Android phones.
4. Reboot your phone. You'll find Superuser installed. Open it, swipe from left to right to access Superuser settings. The su binary is outdated and it'll appear in a red font. Tap it to update su binary.
This is proof enough that your phone is rooted, but if you really need to see, here's one more step.
5. Install Root checker from Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joeykrim.rootcheck
Run this app, and if your phone is rooted, Superuser will come up automatically asking you whether Root Checker should be granted permission- press Yes and root Checker will deliver the result.
That's it-congratulations, you've rooted your a390 without any pain. Now you can flash a recovery, install Busybox, overclock your phone, get rid of the dumb apps Lenovo has included with the a390.... Enjoy!

Root MMX A116 CHD (MTK6589) using Motochopper (with latest SU v1.86)

Friends
The Motochopper is tested and working with various devices other than Motorola, one is Micromax A116 Canvas HD that is in the list.
The Motochopper is the work of Dan Rosenberg, @djrbliss and original thread is :-
http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/t...pper-warning-no-longer-works-on-newer-builds/
If you wish to donate, use the "Paypal" link below, as that leads to him.
Paypal:

However, the procedure and links are already on XDA and other sites, but I seen at several places that users getting problems during updating SU binaries. Therefore, I replaced the superuser with latest available on Play Store i.e. v1.86 and uploaded it again to share here.
Download the package from here :-
http://www.mediafire.com/download/x9mfbqagbky4r9k/motochopper.rar
Step by step procedure :-
1. Install Drivers for your device
2. if you are on Android 4.1.2 then goto Settings>Developer Options>Now tick "USB debugging"
- but if you are on Android 4.2.1 then goto Settings > About phone.
Then move on to Build number option, Tap on Build number repeatedly 7 times.
Now go back to Settings>Developer Options>Now tick "USB debugging"
3. After installing driers and enabled the developers options, connect your device to PC / Laptop
4. Run "run.bat" [on windows 7/8 run as as administrator (right click on run.bat and chose "Rus as Administrator")]
5. Wait for the process to finish. Once it is done it will say "Exploit Complete"
6. Hit enter (when ask) so that your Phone Reboots.
Once rebooted, you should see "SuperSU" in your App Drawer.
This will root MMX A116 CHD.
Enjoy rooting !!!!!
pls search before posting. this method has already been mentioned in many other threads. there are even better methods. for example, try framaroot.
and please, don't start another thread saying "Root MMX A116 CHD (MTK6589) Using Framaroot". It also has a thread already.

How to root Android 2.x.x/4.x.x/5.x.x/6.x [Guide]

Hi everyone!
I'm gonna be short, rooting requires the following itens:
* Android supported version (Read title)
* Pacience
* Kingroot app
* No fear to void warranty/get bricked
Okay let's go!
Follow the following steps and please DON'T SK1P ANY STEP (YES I WROTE SK1P), I WON'T BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DEVICE BRICK, OR ANY BROKEN WINDOWS AFTER THE PROCESS.
1- Charge battery until 60% at least. (Just for precaution)
2- Download Kingroot apk from the web. (Sorry, not posting links since it's very popular, you'll find it when you search for it)
3- Install Kingroot apk. (Tick the option "Allow Unknown Sources" under the "Security" tab on the Settings app).
(VARIES WITH DEVICE) -> 4- Turn off write protection through recovery mode. (Some devices won't let you root until you set write protection off, not doing this, results in a soft brick, not all devices have this option, if your's hasn't, skip this step).
5- Enable Progammer mode. (Tap 8 times on compilation number under "About device" on the Settings app).
6- Enable Debug Mode. (You can find this under "Programmer options").
7- Open Kingroot. (Turn on wi-fi)
8- Press " Try to root" if your device is compatible, don't forget to leave wi-fi on!
9- Wait until 100%.
10- Congrats! Rooted! Now you can find new apps such as Purify and Kinguser on your app drawer, I recommend you not to use Superuser from ChainsDD if you don't have a custom recovery, that will lead you to deadly brick, believe me, it already happened to me once, learned the lesson
Hope you succeeded and happy rooting!
It's not the right forum to post this, move it to android general

How to root any phone using kingroot and replace it with super SU!

How to use KingRoot to root any Android Device
Key Points to Remember
HTML:
If KingRoot finds Sony_RIC is enabled and system can't be mounted, then you need to unroot the device first. Then you can re-root it and disable RIC automatically.
Those who have already installed KingUser on their device, need to install KingUser 4.0.5 fix, before uninstalling the same. Only after uninstalling the KingUser app, you will be able to re-root the device using KingRoot tool.
In case you face issues while removing KingUser, try force stopping KingUser, perform wipe cache data and then root with KingRoot again.
There are two versions of the KingRoot tool: Mobile and desktop.
•I m not responsible for any damage to you're phone.: D
Step 1: On your Android Device, Open Settings > Security > Device Administration > Unknown Source (tick to enable it).
xD
Step 2: Download and install KingRoot APK on your Android Device.
Step 3: Once Installation is completed, you will be able to see the following icon in the Launcher
Step 4: Tap on the KingRoot Icon to Open it. Once KingRoot Application is launched you will be able to see the following screen:
Step 5: Now, Tap on the Start Root Button to begin the root process.
Step 6: Now, KingRoot will start the rooting process.
Step 7: Within a minute or two you will be able to see the Big Green Tick, which signifies that your device is rooted successfully.
Step 8: Restart your Android Device.
Now to replaced kinguser with superSU
Caution: It seems SuperSU-Me App isnt working any more on latest Android Devices. I arent recommending you to try the tutorial on latest Android devices, as it may cause bootloop. If you still want to use, then use it at your own risk.
Remove or Replace KingUser with SuperSU
Step 1: Download Free Version or Download Pro Version of SuperSu-Me Application on you android device.
Step 2: Once, SuperSu-Me Application is installed on your device Open It.
Step 3: Once, SuperSU-Me application is launched, it will ask for the root Permission. Tap on the Allow button to continue.
Step 4: Once SuperSu-Me is fully launched, you will be able to see the following screen:
Step 5: Now, Tap on the Blue Android Button to begin the replacing process (replacing process may take 30-50 seconds to finish).
Step 6: Once replacing process is completed, SuperSU application will launched automatically.
Step 7: Now, you will notice that KingRoot, KingUser and other Chinese application is deleted from the application launcher and SuperSU is installed.
Optional: You can also verify that SuperSU is working correctly or not using any Root Checker Application.
