I have Samsung galaxy Y handset. I just rooted it for trying new ROM. I installed the zip file of klerks and also the custom ROMs cyanocream v3 and paranoid. I switched the phone to recovery mode and clicked 'apply the custom rom' option. And since it wasn't showing the wiping and the other formatting option, I clicked 'reboot' option. And from then the phone isn't running, I see only the Samsung logo it shows on switching. I tried everything, the recovery mode is also not running, took the battery out but still same problem. Can you please crack this problem? I need my phone!
I dont own this device so Im not sure what's the process (although im familiar with the whole galaxy family), but I do wonder, did you install custom recovery (like CWM)? Did you make a backup before applying the ROM?
Can you still access the recovery mode? Whenever i mess up an installation, i usually search for an stock rom and flash it via the external SD card.
Perhaps this might come helpful

i am still not able to run the custom rom.
I rooted my phone.
Opened up the CWM v5, and wiped-data,cache partition, format data, format cache, mounted all drives,---
went into advance to wipe dalvik cache and the other data.
Installed the custom rom by opening the zip file through install zip from sd.
I installed the custom rom (tried all, jellybean, cyanocream v3, paranoid, icecream).....
BUT EACH TIME EITHER IT STOPED WITH Samsung Galaxy Y logo screen OR at logo of cyanocream (when installing cyanocream).
SO I HAD TO FLASH MY PHONE EACH TIME WITH STOCK ROAM THROUGH ODIN. Then it works on its standard android.
I tried many times. Checked all steps. Checked all videoes.
I CANT MAKE OUT WHERE AM I MAKING MISTAKE EXACTLY ?????? Can any one please tell me the most accurate and effective correct method to do this successfully?

I don't own this phone too but my mother has . Did you flash the kernel for custom rom such as 'white xp kernel' for cynocream before flashing the rom? You can download it from the same post you download the rom and you can backup your stock rom in cwm so if anything happen you can boot to cwm and restore it back.

Try this if you are using CM based roms.
Go to CWM. Wipe data, wipe cache, go to mounts and storage mount all (except SD card) install kernel zip(not ROM zip, use kernel zip) go to advanced NEVER WIPE DALVIK CACHE AND BATTERY STATS WHEN INSTALLING ROM, reboot recocery, you will get mounting error. Ignore it. format all (except SD card). Install rom zip reboot. I have used this many times and no fail yet.
I own this device and if you have any problem feel free to ask.
If you want instructions for any ROM, reply here with Rom's link.

I rooted my device using Gingerbreak.
I have 2.2.2 installed out of the box. I installed CWM. I installed busybox.
Busybox failed. I tried all the versions that it contains.
I checked root status, and RootCheckBasic says I'm rooted.
I installed Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. It will not reboot to CWM.
It only reboots to the standard Android recovery.
I'm trying to install Bumblebee ROM 2.4.
Here are some things I am having issues understanding with it...
Backup current apps and their data with Titanium Backup (available in the Market). Is this required? The phone is new. I have nothing to back up.
Do a nandroid backup in recovery before doing anything else below.
And the nandroid backup is done with CWM? Again CWM won't reboot, only the standard Android recovery boots.
Required if installing BB 2.x for the first time: Wipe. Wipe it all. Data, cache, system, dalvik-cache, sd-ext if you've got it (might need to look under Advanced or Mounts in recovery to do the last two, and while you're there format /system). I assume you wipe it all with CWM while in recovery?
If upgrading from BB 2.3, wipe cache (and only cache) in recovery.
Does not apply to me
If not upgrading from 2.3, install Wiper zip (see below), just to be extra sure that all is wiped. Don't reboot yet. Installing wiper.zip is done by sideloading using adb commands?
Install ROM zip (see below).
I assume this too is done by copying the zip to the external SD, then selecting update from SD card in recovery... right?
Please someone shed some light on this for me.
In standard Android recovery it says e3. I know on my Captivate I had to use Odin to install GB loaders to get it to work.
THANKS!
Flashwork mod recovery? Never heard of it.
Try downloading rom manager from the market and use that.
Everything else should be simple

Flash ClockworkMod Recovery
It's in rom manager.
Which I installed from the market.
But I don't get the CWM recovery when I reboot into recovery mode.
I get the standard Android recovery
-you know... the one that just has "install update.zip"

Oh, okay, um... are you using the reboot into recovery option in rom manager right after flashing?
After flashing what?
I reboot into recovery through rom manager and get:
Android system recovery <3e>
reboot system now
apply sdcard: update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition

Android System recovery...
Do not pull out the battery!!
After hitting flash clockworkmod recovery, immediately hit reboot recovery
After hitting anything in CWM it did nothing more than reboot into the standard android recovery.
This phone has 2.2.2 on it. Problem? Probably.
I followed instructions at androidcentral and got it to work.
Needed Xionia_CWMA_12518.6_VM
Installed BACKside-IHO-VM670-11222011
using Xionia_CWMA_12518.6_VM_Recovery-signed
Had a little problem today and needed to activate the phone. BUUUUT......
the rom didn't allow activation.
So I installed Bumblebee. No go.
Then I tried [rom] basic stock rom.
Neither of these will let my phone boot. It gets stuck at boot.
Nothing happens.
I can still boot into Xiona_CWMA. But no roms will work.
PLEASE HELP!!!!

I believe that may be due to the newer display in your phone (I'm new to this device so I dont know much yet). From the little bit of information I've gathered, devices manufactured recently have a different display that requires a kernel that supports it. In the iho roms this is included, on others you'll need to flash a kernel right after the rom.
For the stock rom I can upload what I use if you need it. Its basically the one posted here just with the boot.img swapped with one from a nandroid backup I made before switching roms
I think you're spot on with that idea.
I loaded CM7 variant, and it worked.
My question is, how do I get another ROM on it if it has the newer screen?
I loaded different kernels that were supposed to fix it, but no go.
Hi,
First time it happened. tried everything but still cant fix it.
after a month or two on MIUI, I wanted to move to AOKP JB.
As I always do when switching ROMs, I backed up everything (efs, pictures, apps with titanium, etc) and format the internal sd card within the os to get rid of all the junk.
Then went into CWM (siyah) and wiped data and cache.
And now for my mistake, I foramt the /system instead of / cache.
So now, when Im trying to install the ROM as a zip file threw CWM I got an error 7.
When trying to do it on ODIN, it stuck on 'factory fs', 'cache', or 'boot'.
After some time, I got the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue" message.
Then got rid of it after somehow succeeding installing a different cwm (the stock one) but nothing worked there either, exept installing the Siyah kernel zip from there.
What can I do now to get my phone back alive?
THANKS :crying:

I jumped from S1 to S3, but I'm sure it's applicable. You need to flash via odin stock rom that originally came with your phone. Then root then flash custom rom. Odd tho in past I've done the 5 formats, boot, cache, data, system, sdcard then while still in recovery flash rom. Good luck

The problem is, I really cant remember what was the original ROM version. I bought it end of june 2011.
I cant even remember if it was a UK ROM, or an open europe one, or anything else.

Rooted my Galaxy S2 last night, running 4.0.4. This morning I used a rooted app I had downloaded which increased the processor or overclocked it or something. The phone then restarted and is now 'bricked' and won't boot past the initial "samsung galaxy sII" animation. Is there anything I can do? I don't have any backups and really don't wanna reset my phone to factory settings..
If I turn it off and then hold down the up volume button, power button and home button it boots into a screen showing the following
I know it's using 'clockworkmod' 6.0.1.5 and it also says "PhilZ Touch 3"?
" - Reboot System now
- Install zip
- Wipe data/factory reset
- Wipe cache partition
- Backup and restore
- Mounts and storage
- Advanced
- PhilZ Settings
- Power off "
Tried 'Wipe data/Factory reset' but no difference, still stuck at the "Samsung" screen.
Not sure what else to try, using a Mac so can't even use Odin fml, any advice? I'm thinking if I can get hold of someone else's smartphone, I could download a new ROM / Recovery file and put it in my phone, to boot from? Not sure what one I should get though

You just resetted to factory settings. Now you can try different things to get your phone up and running again:
first, I hope you don't have a GT i9100G variant, because i only know the GT i9100
-if you have used SetCPU: boot to recovery (that menu where you tried "wipe data/factory reset"). Then >flash zip from sdcard > flash zip from internal sd. Then navigate to setcpu_safemode_toggle or similar, it's in the root of your sd (meaning it's not in any folder, just on the sd). flash it.
-if you don't have that file, boot to recovery, there you "delete cache" and advanced > delete dalvik cache. Then try to reboot. If that doesn't help:
-try to reflash the kernel with which you rooted btw the one you wanted to overclock (looks like it was made by PhilZ...). if you have a stock rom (not AOSP, but a modded samsung ROM) try a cf-root kernel (use the search!) which matches your ROM (sorry, no clue how to find out if you don't already know... just try one of the 4.0.4 kernels)
I have never connected a device in recovery to a pc for file transfer. Maybe it helps to fiddle around with the mount/unmount options.
If all of this is no use, find a friend with a windows machine and use odin, or learn about heimdall suite. I heard it works on linux and maybe mac too.
Hope I helped.

Problem is, I think I accidentally formatted my SD card, so the original ROM is no longer on there /derp
Also, does this mean I've wiped all data from my phone?
I'm thinking I'm gonna have to try flashing it on there using someone elses SD card, as I can't see how I would get the files onto mine.
So you must download a stock rom (www.sammobile.com) and flash it via odin. DO NOT WIPE ANYTHING until you flash a safe kernel (syiah, philz, dorimanx...) or you'll face the real hardbrick!

You erased all user data and apps when using "wipe data/factory reset". You can find out if your sd is formated by trying to flash a zip in recovery. If your folders are gone, you did format. If it is formatted or unaccessable, It is also possible that it is connected to the SuperBrickBug, though it seems unlikely. The advice by googy_anas is good. It is the safest way. Odinflash a stock rom, and see if it helps.

Could you please link me a rom? I'm confused where to get them from, I used this link: technoxide(DOT)blogspot(DOT)com/2012/10/root-galaxy-s2-ics-4.0.4-xwlpx.html to install the root in the first place, using the "METHOD 1 : ROOT 4.0.4 XWLPX WITH ZIP PACKAGE" method, not requiring a PC.
I've tried flashing several different ROM's I found online, all of which have come up with a big red "FAIL" in ODIN, except the first one, which caused a yellow triangle to appear and made the screen go weird and wouldn't allow me to boot into recovery mode any longer.
What am I supposed to do? Where should I get the ROM's?

I think you have kies program active on PC. Try to close it completely or end its task in the task manager, then retry with odin flash.
To be absolutely safe, you should also download a 4.0.3 rom instead of the unsafe 4.0.4
Hi,
so I tried to install a new theme and during the install the phone froze. I tried to access the recovery again, but I can't, the phone stucks at galaxy s3 screen. However I can access download mode.
My question is, what do I have to do to keep my SD Card content (like pictures)? Which firmware should I flash? I was on Wanam Lite Rom.
Thanks for Help

Flashing a theme will not mess your recovery partition so it cannot happen that you have lost recovery..so try again..
Once you are able to boot into recovery flash the ROM which you were using without a wipe first...you will not loose anything..if you face problems then wipe data/factory reset in CWM ..even then you will not loose the data on your internal SD..

Hi guys.
My phone is a international i9300
I've been searching for a problem like mine in the forum for three weeks now and I couldn't find a proper solution.
I just can't flash any rom via CWM anymore...
I can flash roms via ODIN, but when it comes to CWM, it gets stucked at Samsung logo after the install.
I tried:
Wipe cache / Dalvik / factory reset.
before the installation, after the installation, every combination possible.
Tried megawipe and no help.
Changed the kernel, Siyah, Googy, stock...
Changed versions of CWM, touch.
I have now the Phil'z 5.0.15.
I like very much the XXELK4 version from roalex with its MOD, for the call recording and full multiwindow support, but can't flash it anymore, nor any other custom or stock via CWM.
By now I can only have a full stock flashed via odin, or my Omega 46.1, wich I have a full backup.
Another solution could be find a .tar rooted and with the MODS flashable via Odin, but I really wanted to understand what's happening with my recovery.
Thank you all and congrats for the great work with the forum.

Sorry.
Forgot to include in the original post... I tried that too. Formatted everything
Got the 6.0.6.3
I also tried with the last Philz recovery.
And with previous versions of both too.
Have you tried to go bk to stock, root that firmware then install cwm then flash custom rom? Clean slate start.
Your problem may be a bad file download .

I'll try to download again, although it's not likely that several files are bad. I tried with so many different roms...
I bought another micro sd of 64gb. Maybe the one I'm using is ruining the files...
There can't be a so huge bug in philz recovery
Try install from internal sdcard, a simple 'Factory Reset before New Rom' no need to mega wipe anything.

Of course. And I tried with different versions of Philz' and also CWM. It can't be a bug in recovery.
Re-downloaded the revolution 29.0 and the Roalex XXELK4 rooted, copyed directly to internal and flashed... Same problem. Stuck at Samsung logo in boot. I'm begining to think my phone is screwed up. But this is so strange. I can restore my backup with no problems, and also can flash with Odin.
Is there a way to flash a .ZIP ROM in Odin?
Does not make any sense .
What model phone do you have ???
What model firmware are you flashing .
What about basic stock custom roms flashed via CWM ??
Have you booted to Philz recovery mounts and storage format sd card cache system and data then flash rom ??
Agree it is strange Deviating a little from your problem but have you tried flashing anything with TWRP recovery see if the problem persists with that.

I know it doesn't. That's why I'm going crazy.
I uploaded the screenshots with my system specs.
The model is correct, international i9300. Tried to download from the site and also directly from rommanager.
The firmwares I'm trying to flash are stock, but rooted by Roalex. I couldn't find a pure stock .zip for testing with CWM. The firmware I'm using is UBEMH5 from sammobile, wich I flashed via Odin.
Yes... Tried and formatted everything, several times, mounted, unmounted, every possible order...
Almost giving up. :crying:

I never used TWRP. Can I flash the same ROM file .zip with it or it requires it's own rom file type?
I'm gonna be out of the country for two days. When I come back I'll give it a try.

It's been a while since i used it last time was when I had a S2 and I used it all the time:good: You can flash any rom with it that cwm can flash (as far as I know) but it had a little trouble restoring backups made with cwm but I think that got fixed. But you can make backups and loads of other things with it I recommend people to try it at least once This won't fix your cwm problem but would be interesting to see if it works
If twrp doesn't work on stock Flash googy Max dualboot kernel and keep stock as primary rom and custom as second rom. Then you have best of both world's  also take the pic down with your emei showing :banghead: never ever show this!
What i would do in this situation is .
In recovery format cache system sd card preload .
Flash stock rom via Odin.
Check phone works ok .
Then root / flash philz recovery .
Put custom rom on sd card boot to recovery factory reset .
Then install custom rom watching setup to spot a failure point .
Wait for rom to load 10 mins fails then remove batter replace and factory reset .
Problem solved
Hi folks.
Think I figured out what's going on.
Via TWRP it says the files were corrupted, although the file sizes were identical.
I MD5 checked the files in my computer and they're ok, but when checked already inside my phone or SD they're not.
Instead of copying the files via USB cable I removed the SD card and inserted directly in my laptop slot and copyed the files. MD5 checked and they're ok...
After I tryed again copy via USB and the files were corrupted again.
I think my desktop USB or maybe the Samsung drivers are doing that.
Well, problem solved. I hope this helps other people in future problems.
Thank you all for your help and support. Keep on with the great work.
Mark solved then for other users .
