I have got my SMS message centre number from my network provider and now want to be able to enter the info into my XDA. I cannot do it automatically by 'Get Voicemail & SMS settings' in Phone as it keeps returning an error.
What I want to know is, is there any way or any software that will allow me to be able to manually enter my networks SMS message centre number into my unit.
Any help would be MUCH appreciated.
Jollster
Can you be more specific with the type of error message you receive?
Go to Start->Inbox. Take Tools->Options and touch and hold on SMS. Lo and behold, the Message Centre(er) number.
The error message I am getting is 'Network Error - Unable to read setting from the network'.
In response to your post "Auldg" I did that and entered in the Message Centre Number for 3 (my network provider) and pressed OK. My understanding is that this would have saved the number. Trying to send a text didn't work and I still got the error message "The sim card is invalid. Please contact your service provider for a new sim".
I know there is nothing worng with the sim as it works fine the phone supplied by 3. I have tried 02's message centre number following a conversation with them and this resulted in a failed SMS send as well. I know it is not the XDA as this sends txts using an old T-mobile sim.
When I looked at the SMS centre number again after entering two different numbers neither of them were there. Trying to select a network doesnt give 3 as an available network.
Does the XDA store the SMS centre number in the SIM card or the phone. If its the phone is there a way to hard code my sms centre number into it?? This is driving me mad as I can do everything else with my 3 sim as normal just not send texts
This '3' network, what is it? Is it a GSM provider or a 3G Networks Provider?
Ah "3" !
Are you in the UK on 3? This is a new GSM/UTMS network and I wonder if the SIM card has new fancy stuff on it the the XDA doesn't know how to handle. You are clearly a VERY early adopter, bless you.
I didn't have to enter my MC number (or Voice Mail number) when using my XDA on Orange so these must be picked up from the SIM. Maybe the 3 sim holds these details in a different place from the rest of the networks?
One for the xda-developers firmware gurus to take a look at I think.
And so can one of the XDA-Developer firmware gurus shed any light on this matter???
I didn't really switch for the new technology that 3 offers, quite the opposite in fact as I din't really need to use it. The reason being was the deal on free mins they offered, but that's by the by. I can still use the 3 sim in my XDA and make / receive calls using the 02 network (this is what it uses if it cannot pick up the 3 network) and also receive texts. Just not send them.
Can any development guru's PLEASE shed any light as to this situation and may be even be able to offer a solution. If its even only that its something that can be addressed in an upcoming firmware ROM.
Some divine inspiration from the gods would be hugely appreciated.
So, let me make sure I am getting this right. You currently have no way to set your SMS service center number in the device, and if you do using the normal options the number does not stick?
OK that said you can do a registry hack telling the reg to override the SIM and use "# you choose" number. See my thread towards the bottom on how to novice level write a reg key http://www.xda-developers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1660
I haven't yet looked up where the reg key for SMS service center number is but I’m going to guess it is located right above or below the location specified in the thread.
I'm just going to guess but I don't think forcing your machine to use a SMS service center number from the device end rather than the SIM end is going to solve your can receive but not send problem. Given the service center, number is what is used to send your SMS. If your device is not reading it from the SIM and you are hand putting it in and it's not sticking this sounds like SIM network problem not device problem, could be wrong though:? Let me know overriding the SIM works. Can you use that service center number to send SMS on other Mobile Terminals (handsets/cell phone) Does a regular cell phone see the SMS service center number from the SIM? If the software set the XDA uses to talk to the GSM network is failing, but works talking to other GSM networks...sounds like a service provider protocol or provisioning problem (the way they have their GSM network set up i.e. do they have their own towers or are they ridding on someone else’s footprint but have or do not have their own switches etc.)
You might also try un-checking or checking the use Unicode option under accounts SMS in Inbox, but this should really make no difference as this is only when necessary protocol anyways, but who knows. I still think it's on your service provider’s end/SIM. The XDA just talks to the network using GSM "Standard" agreed upon protocols for GSM. Now the provider can do whatever they like. These are just suggested standards so problems (maybe) like this from occurring. Anyway, let me know if this makes any difference. Always learning
Cheers,
E.
You have hit the nail on the head exactly. When I try to enter the number manually it does indeed not stick. I have tried the sim in the original phone that it came with and it works as per normal. All the functionality is there.
The network I am on in the UK is a new network that is giving the 3G technology but this is only being rolled out and is not nationwide. They do piggyback onto another providers network (namely 02) when you are not in a 3G area so that you are always able to make voice calls / send tetxs.
I have no idea as to whether they have there own switches etc as its like trying to get blood out of a stone when talking to there customer services.
I have looked at the thread about editing / creating registry keys and did look at the key that you mentioned. Above the vmail key is an SMS key but opening it led onto all sorts of other fields and protocols which threw me. I am not sure which of these (if any) would be the correct one to start entering SMS Message Centre numbers into or what I would need to hard code it as a new registry key.
To this end I cannot see if hard coding it to make it stick works or not. Can you shed any light as to this??? Would be much appreciated if you could.
With thanks
IanJ
I'm going to see if I can get my XDA to overide the SIM SMSC, I'll post success or
many thanks for your help
Why does it always say "Conditional call forwarding active" when I make any call?
Hi there, basically I bought a new and sealed T-Mobile branded Samsung Galaxy SII phone from eBay and am using my 3 mobile sim in it.... I assume it wasn't originally locked when I bought it, as I went through the root and unlock method (ChainFire app), and the code was 00000000, and never at any point asked me to enter that code into the system, so hey, my 3 sim seems to work in it.... apart from the fact that for every call I make the message "Conditional call forwarding active" always crops up with a beep to go with it, then after a couple of seconds the call is made. It isn't a major problem as such I don't think, but hell it definitely isn't normal and is quite annoying after spending £400 on this otherwise amazing phone.
I have tried to fiddle with the settings but for some reason I cannot disable any of the call forwarding settings, some sort of error message crops up. I have phoned up the 3 network who I am with three times today and they asked me to enter a few # codes to sort the problem out, but I had no luck, and then they had me factory reset the phone using the option in the settings. I did that, and I still have this problem. I also get the message "Connection problem or invalid MMI" when entering most # codes, this seems to have happened after rooting, though I am not 100% sure if that is the case.
My phone is the Samsung Galaxy S II I900, just to confirm that.
I look forward to hearing from you guys
I am on Three and I get the same message although my S2 was purchased from O2 then rooted. I have not seen any other reports about this but the message has not bothered me.
I have the same message. Ave tried several hings without success, however since it really does nothing, I am starting to get use to it. But if someone knows how to solve it please let us know
voice mail
Hi guys i have this to but it only started when i activated my voicemail so i think its down to the voicemail
e.g if your on the phone and someone else calls they are placed forward to your voice mail ???
hope this helps
Hey there guys, thanks for the replies so far, glad to hear others are experiencing this annoying problem. I seem to have had this since rooting it, originally T-Mobile though I am 99% it was never "locked" to the network for some reason as I mentioned as I have never had to enter the 00000000 code, which the free ChainFire sim app gave me (seems like it means it is unlocked already???). The guys on the 3 helpline were giving me loads of codes which weren't of any help, and telling me about what options I could fiddle around with, but I had tried all of these to no avail.
Are people also getting the MMI message I mentioned in my original post, whenever they enter # codes in the dialer? It seems to me that both of these problems started at the same time (this error message and the forwarding issue - I am sure they are linked). It means, for example, I probably won't be able to set up a speed dial because of it, nor will I be able to use the "secret codes" as mentioned in the dedicated thread of the same name on this site.
Why is it a problem for some and not for the majority of people, we must have something in common which we have done with our phones which has caused this?
I really hope someone can sort this annoying problem out.
It's normal. "Call Forwarding Active" is displayed when all calls are forwarded. "Conditional Call Forwarding Active" shows when forward when busy, forward when unanswered, or forward when unreachable is selected. To make the message go away you'd have to disable the three forwarding options in their settings. The pre-populated number is always your carrier voicemail (read from the SIM) or Google Voice.

Cheers for the reply Barry, yeah I expect it is normal but the thing is I cannot change these settings, my phone won't let me as an error comes up. I know it's not a major problem, just a bit annoying I can't get it to go away. I can't disable those three things, I tried a few times already.
Plus, I constantly get the MMI error message, which I mentioned before, seems a bit of a coincidence how these problems started the same time. I can't enter the majority of "#" codes into the dialer, it always says "USSD Running" or something along those lines and then produces the message like 2 seconds later.
Any ideas? Thanks so far for the advice
I have this problem but unlike all others I cannot make any calls on account of it. When I try to disable call forwarding I get an error msg saying it's not supported by the operator.
There HAS to be a way to fix this. I cannot make any calls or use 3G.
Try this
menu-call-additional setting-select network default...
It work with my sgs2.
On the Galaxy S2 if you go to: settings-call-call settings-call forwarding-voice call forwarding -- You will most likely see that for unanswered or unreachable calls it's not disabled because it forwards it to your voicemail, that's why it says conditional call forwarding is active. If you disable all options you won't get the message but then unanswered calls won't go to voicemail.Hope that helps.

you realise thats almost a year old? Check the dates on threads before you post
ADMIN EDIT: True, but it is a current issue for some people so it's still valid to answer the question.
Doesn't work
My phone drops every call, even with SIM cards from different countries and in all conditions. Thinking this call forwarding might have something to do with it, I tried to deactivate it, first through the settings -- no luck -- than by reformatting the phone. Nothing, cannot get rid of it because it says it is set by the 2 different phone companies I use.
I don't mind the message but when I call someone, I can hear that the call is being sent somewhere, there is a 1st ring, then it rings the other phone. Does this have to do with call forwarding? Can it be interrupting the phone signal and causing the call to drop ?
I have also removed both the Turkcell and Telefonica SIM cards, put them into another unlocked phone and tried to cancel but as soon as I put them back, the message returns and my calls drop.
Im also getting this error when I updated to 4.1.2 and used galaxy s2 sim unlock
Has nothing to do with call forwarding !!!
The Message worked on all AT&T cell phones, since i can remember,. i been using go phones since 06..... and they all had this message when right after the number was just dialed, right after pushing the green phone icon button to dial it , right after entering the number to be dialed on the keypad.
I have found this message on LG Cell Phone 500 CU series... and all my other phones as well...
IT is NOT a CALL FORWARDING ISSUE>.. because i had worked on that for awhile myself...
IT is a Carrier Issue I believe.
and it doesnt happen ever single time , just on certain days . not sure, why... but perhaps, call your carrier and ask them what type of phone they have your phone listed as.
Then tell them the model and make u have. that might change things... Cell phone carriers know how to mess with your phone and break it too...
so if ur having issues with messaging, call forwarding, it just may be the settings the carrier has you listed or down for.
blah.
anyways. yes it is annoying, i just got a new phone, samsung galaxy express. it is starting to happen too on this one. but had it for a few days and it never showed up till about 2 days later.
I thing it is perfectly normal for your device to display this message, I'm central america and mine also says the same thing anytime i make a call "Conditional Call Forwarding Active. However since I have a prepaid or pay as you go plan with my carrier and whenever I have no more credits to make calls i get the message "Calling Barring Enabled". I guess it has something to do with your carriers settings, it doesn't bother me at all though since I'm already used to it so hope that helps.
Enabling call forwarding for real and then disabling it seems to work
I got the same error also on every version of the stock rom (it used to appear occasionally, though) on my Samsung Galaxy S2 (i9100, without g), in that case going into forwarding settings was enough, because the mobile used to read the current configuration from the network and recognized that there was no forwarding active!
I moved to Cyanogen Mod 10.1.3 / Stable and going into forwarding settings was useless... He was updating with the data from the newtwork, all the forwarding options were disabled but the notification message was still there...
I decided to enable it for real by putting a friend number from the same carrier and then disabling it immediately after, and it solved my problem! Hope it helps!
PS: I'm not sure that enabling the call forwarding is free of charge, just double check with your carrier first!

I had the problem. Just solved it. select any one sim. Select settings-call settings-call forwarding-make sure all the options listed therein are disabled. Do this selecting all your sims one by one. The problem will have solved.

Hello,
I also got the similar problem I can't call anyone since 2 days whenever i try to call someone the call drops out and shows the pop up message "Conditional Call Forwarding Active".
I tried to disable call forwarding in call settings but i cant disable the fourth option " Forward Call When Unreachable "
When i try to disable it another pop up message shows up " Unable to deactivate call diverting when phone is Unreachable. Unsupported by operator. "
Please help it is really annoying i can't call anyone.
I use Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo
ok i got a i717 note and a att striaght talk sim card. I finially got the APN setting that came with the straight talk sim to save. Phone is making calls and messaging but the data services are not working. What am i doing wrong?
If your settings are like the ones in the screenshots I posted, then I would say there is likely problems with data im your area.
my settings are the exact same. no luck

also my carrier says "HOME" in the top left corner. I wonder if this has something to do with it?
Mine displays HOME when I pull down the notifications window and only for a few seconds when in the lock screen. Other than that it doesn't display HOME from what I've noticed. I don't think you have to worry about the what is displayed as the carrier's name. Since you are able to make phone calls and received messages (both SMS and MMS?) and the only thing that is not working is just data, then it's probably something in the phone configuration or a problem in your area. If you haven't done so yet I would recommend contacting Straight Talk.
What symbol, if any, do you have to the left of the signal bar?
I know this probably isn't the case but did your turn Wifi off? If not try turning it on or off and making sure it stays off so you can connect to the data network.
I don't know if you have done so but you could try a factory reset, not sure if this would help.
If none of the above works you could try rooting and flashing the AT&T stock rom to the phone or some other rom. (Consult this recommendation with someone more experienced here on the forums. Personally, I don't see more troubleshooting options.)
If there is no problem with the network and none of the above works then I think your phone may be damaged, unless it used to work perfectly with AT&T. Did you switch from AT&T to Straight Talk or did you buy the buy through ebay or on the street to activate ti with them?
Hi ya,
the guys from android-hilfe.de sent me here because they cant help me anymore. I brought the HOX+ 3 weeks ago on ebay local. the first week everything went fine and then out of a sudden I cant sent SMS or call anybody. when I try to call anybody (no different if I enter the number by hand or chose it from the contactlist) the connection isnt established. no error message, nothing. just "beep" and thats it. I use a vodafone simcard and if another vodafone user tries to call me, he gets the same "beep" like me, when I try to call. SMS dont reach me either. the sender gets an error just seconds after he tries to sent. I cant sent it too. BUT i get access to the internet. surfing, whatsapp and the facebook-app works fine. I had switched off wifi to make sure the connection is established through my vodafone carrier...and it is.
I called my provider an they say it must be the simcard - so they sent my a new one. but it doesnt helped. the same errors like before. then i tried to chance my simcard with a friend who uses o2 in his galaxy S3. my sim worked in his phone perfectly and his sim in my HOX+, too. Then i took the simcard of another friend whos also using vodafone and put it in my HOX+. the problems with calling and SMS were the same. my sim card was working fine in his HD2. so i tried more and more...it seems that only vodafone simcards got the problem with my phone. i also tried to reset the HOX+, deleted call forwarding, which doesnt fix the problem too. even gsm-codes like #004# or *135# wont work and a got the error message "Connection Problem or Invalid MMI Code".
because i brought it on ebay i´m afraight it might have been stolen and locked by the provider - is there something like simlock or netlock? and if yes, how to fix it?
please excuse my bad english and thanks a lot for your help in advance
http://www.imei.info/
use that to check if it's stolen
Hi Lexx,
nice to see you here .
I dont think that is stolen ( more I hope so ). First check that out , maybe you or someone else is able to unlock it, if it is simlocked.
If it is stolen I would force as much preassure as I can to the seller...
Paypal or a complain to the police
thank you for you warm welcome.
i just checked the imei at imei.info and can't see any clue that the phone was stolen. do you need any information provided by the homepage or how to go on now? the phone still isn't working (except internet).
Goto the Vodafone website,
In their support area you can find a formulae to reapply network settings.
I had the problem you described with my dhd, reapplying carrier settings fixed SMS and calling.
Alternatively you can manually crosscheck all settings.

Alex

well I crosschecked the settings at least 10 times. they are definately correct. A konfiguration SMS cant be sent by 1&1 (a reseller of vodafone i use) because I cant receive sms at all. so my problem is still there. I recognized, that after I try to sent a SMS the connection always breaks down and I have to enter my pin-code again.
It seems there's something very strange with that phone. maybe any kind of lock?!
ps:
i can sent MMS but do not receive them.
Did you try a factory reset?
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2
yes i tried software reset in the settings menu. But i didnt worked
Sounds like you need apn settings
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda app-developers app
are you sure? The settings are correct and internet and mms wouldnt work if the settings were wrong. Right?
Depends and you said the Sudan? Hmm may be its a band issue. If your not on the same gsm bands your not going to receive voice. But if your on a compatible data band you will receive data. Now call your service provider and simply ask if the settings are correct. And there are data only Sims so you gotta watch out. Call the service provider and see what's what
. Good luck!

it worked some days until it suddenly stopped working. i already got a new simcard and checked the settings. they're right. but i found out that i'm not the only one having this problem:

i just use the carries 1&1 (a german reseller of vodafone),but the problems are the same... and it seems there's no solution to fix it
maybe you got a clue?
Hmm ok how is the signal?
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda app-developers app
depends on where I am. Right now in the middle of berlin it says hsdpa with maximum signal.
Can you tell me what the right settings would be when I enter *#*#4636*#*# ??? there are loats of information and maybe there it can be seen which is wrong.
any clue? Well I found out that there is something called "vodafone protect" which seems to lock and/or delete the mobile when it's stolen. maybe I bought a protected one Or should this be "deleted" when I reset by menu??
I posted this in the Hyperdrive thread but thought maybe it should go here since my questions aren't all specific to the ROM..
I did some basic searching this weekend and was unable to find a definitive answer to these questions, and the few answers I DID find did not seem to work in my case, so I apologize if this is repetitive.*
-Wireless does not work for me- based on what I read, this is a kernel issue, and in order for this issue to be resolved, I have to use a different one. That being said, the one I tried installed successfully but the wireless still did not work. Does anyone have a suggested kernel that WOULD work and allow me to utilize my wireless? I'm on an AT*T Go plan so I'm burning through my 4g cap faster than I'd like because I cant get the wireless to take.*
-When I try to set a wallpaper, the home wallpaper works fine, but when I select 'lock screen' wallpaper or the combo of both, it freezes and then TouchWiz crashes.*
-And the most FRUSTRATING issue- and this is not ROM specific, I realize... but this phone when I purchased it(used) was used on Verizon. I was able to unlock/etc and get it to work with the AT&T Go network after manually entering the APN settings..however- any time an inbound call comes in, it puts a '+' in front of the number. The end result is none of my contacts names show because my contacts obviously do not have a '+' prefacing their number. I tried using an app called Prefixer and set up a rule for it but that did nothing, and I verified country etc is set correctly..does anyone have any clue why this is happening? Very frustrating.*
Bump...anyone? Am I in the wrong place maybe?
