Trying to unroot my me7 to update and reroot. How do I do this? I'm running Linux.

Undo any changes you did (Xposed hacks, frozen apps, replace bloatware)
open supersu
Go to settings
At the bottom choose full unroot

You may have to flash me7 in odin if after you do all that and it still doesn't let you take the ota. Just a heads up. Some had no issues and others still did.
All of the current basebands have a method to root and a safe one. Just once you get to mk2 stop there.. There's no guarantee we'll have a root method for whatever is coming next.

Unroot Question

I rooted my Verison Galaxy S4 before they updated the bootloader to ME7. If I wanted to unroot my phone can I follow the ME7 unroot instructions to update to Android 4.3 bypassing the update, or do I have to go back to what my phone was originally prior to updating?

Just. Don't. Do. It.
You have MDK Lokied bootloader apparently. If you take Verizon update they will ruin that! Wait for developers to incorporate the best 4.3 features in custom roms.

Should I unroot first if I want to accept the 4.4.3 OTA update from Verizon?

Should I unroot first if I want to accept the 4.4.3 OTA update from Verizon?
My VZW Note 2 was rooted via Saferoot. Then I disabled SDM and FWupgrade by renaming them to *.bak.
I don't mind resetting everything to factory default. If I do that, should I unroot as well?
Thanks!
nope you shouldnt have to unroot. However, do understand that there is a chance that you cannot root in the future with 4.4 due to Knox 2.0. We just have to hope developers find a new way to root/unlock bootloader.

Thanks! That exactly what confuses me right now.
If I don't unroot and turn on SDM/FWupgrade to allow 4.4.3 OTA update to
be installed on my rooted Note 2,will the rooting disappear afterwards?
(going back to rooted state by itself?)
Or will the Note 2 remain rooted?
Thanks!

There is no 4.4.3 Ota. Only 4.4.2. And yes you will lose root. It's not currently rooted.
Never take the OTA's. Just wait for one of the ROM developers to make a ROM based on the OTA.

yeah, I meant 4.4.2
If my Galaxy Note 2 is currently rooted, it will not lose root after 4.4.2 is installed. Is this correct?

Is that even possible on a Verizon Galaxy Note 2 that came from Samsung with 4.3?

Once you update using the OTA 4.4, you WILL LOSE root.
If your phone came with 4.3, then it is not possible to flash another rom since the bootloader is locked. Root is possible though.

Actually it is still possible to flash custom roms with locked bootloader: safestrap.

Easiest way to upgrade to 4.4.3

Hi, my wife has my old rooted S4 on MK2. It has been debloated so I know the update will fail. I don't want to do safestrap. Do I need to Odin back to a clean MK2 and then accept updates, or could I Odin the stock Kit Kat factory image?

I am currently rooted on MJ7 and do not care if I lose everything in the upgrading process.
Is there a post somewhere on upgrading straight to NC5? Do I just do a normal odin flash of the NC5 update then use towel to root?
Or could I just take the OTA then use towel root? Or to do that do I need to properly unroot, take OTA, then root NC5 with towel?
*EDIT*
I am assuming I could just follow this to do a full wipe to NC5? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735172

[Q] Why does the MK2 bootloader matter?

Probably a noob question, but if you want root for titanium, wifi tether, xposed mods, etc...
Why is it so important to stay on MK2.
There's a few threads on downgrading from NC5 to MK2, and back up to keep the MK2 bootloader.
MK2 is not MDK, you can't run a custom recovery.
So what's so bad about taking the NC5 OTA and then just rooting? You can still run SS? Can yoi not flash a SS compatible ROM on NC5s bootloader?
Just trying to understand the difference. I know the benefit to MDK, just not anything else.

People hold out hope that someone may unlock the mk2 bootloader. To me it doesn't matter I'm on the NC2/NC5 bootloader myself.

Are we pretty close to unlocking MK2? Should I hold out?
I used your method to upgrade to NC5, but the audio over wifi glitch has me on the verge of taking the OTA.
Im not really seeing any other way of fixing this issue except going stock?
Also alot of those threads were made before a native NC5 exploit was released. Before towelroot, the MK2 bootloader downgrade was the method for root.

It really sucked having to do that. It was my first root ever and I soft bricked my phone three times because I knew less than nothing about rooting and whatnot. Three weeks later: Towelroot. Now its a party lol.

But there are more devs working for a bootloader exploit for the S5, than the S4.
And the S5, so if there is an exploit on the S5, it will probably transfer over to the S4 at the NC5 level since that firmware is on par with the S4s NC5.
So isn't it better to go to full NC5?

How root NG6

The phone took update and I jus got it working earlier. I had to Odin back to NC5 cause wiped whole phone lol. Not familiar with NG6 so needing a point in direction. Thanks in advance

Your best best is to downgrade to NC5 or upgrade to OC1 but be cautious once u take the update to OC1 android 5.0.1 THERE IS NO GOING BACK DOWN!!!!! but OC1 has root wit kingroot and NC5 wit toowelroot but NC6 not that I know off. I used to have the rom the rooted version of NC6 because I was capturing the OTA updates. So anyways u can choose if to downgrade to NC5 or update ur phone to OC1 to lollipop 5.0.1 to gain root back.
