I rooted my Verison Galaxy S4 before they updated the bootloader to ME7. If I wanted to unroot my phone can I follow the ME7 unroot instructions to update to Android 4.3 bypassing the update, or do I have to go back to what my phone was originally prior to updating?

Just. Don't. Do. It.
You have MDK Lokied bootloader apparently. If you take Verizon update they will ruin that! Wait for developers to incorporate the best 4.3 features in custom roms.

hey guys, i was just wondering if/how to downgrade to MDK from MI1 on my verizon galaxy s4 because i want to flash ROMS but can't right now with safestrap on my rooted s4 with MI1. is the bootloader unlocked on the MDK version? because if so i would be able to flash TWRP without having root access which would be awesom.e any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can't downgrade to MDK. You can only reinstall the same version that you currently have, or update to a newer version.
There are no versions of the Verizon GS4 that have an unlocked bootloader. There's a method for MDK phones to bypass the bootloader lock (loki), but that's it.
At the moment, all you can do with MI1 is use safestrap and ROMs compatible with the stock MI1 kernel.
I have read that people have downgraded back to MDK with JTAG but I have also heard it is very risky and I would not know which direction to point you in.

Trying to unroot my me7 to update and reroot. How do I do this? I'm running Linux.

Undo any changes you did (Xposed hacks, frozen apps, replace bloatware)
open supersu
Go to settings
At the bottom choose full unroot

You may have to flash me7 in odin if after you do all that and it still doesn't let you take the ota. Just a heads up. Some had no issues and others still did.
All of the current basebands have a method to root and a safe one. Just once you get to mk2 stop there.. There's no guarantee we'll have a root method for whatever is coming next.
Verizon Galaxy S4
SafeStrap
Hyperdrive 12
Sprint Galaxy S4
Philz

Should I unroot first if I want to accept the 4.4.3 OTA update from Verizon?
My VZW Note 2 was rooted via Saferoot. Then I disabled SDM and FWupgrade by renaming them to *.bak.
I don't mind resetting everything to factory default. If I do that, should I unroot as well?
Thanks!
nope you shouldnt have to unroot. However, do understand that there is a chance that you cannot root in the future with 4.4 due to Knox 2.0. We just have to hope developers find a new way to root/unlock bootloader.

Thanks! That exactly what confuses me right now.
If I don't unroot and turn on SDM/FWupgrade to allow 4.4.3 OTA update to
be installed on my rooted Note 2,will the rooting disappear afterwards?
(going back to rooted state by itself?)
Or will the Note 2 remain rooted?
Thanks!

There is no 4.4.3 Ota. Only 4.4.2. And yes you will lose root. It's not currently rooted.
Never take the OTA's. Just wait for one of the ROM developers to make a ROM based on the OTA.

yeah, I meant 4.4.2
If my Galaxy Note 2 is currently rooted, it will not lose root after 4.4.2 is installed. Is this correct?

Is that even possible on a Verizon Galaxy Note 2 that came from Samsung with 4.3?

Once you update using the OTA 4.4, you WILL LOSE root.
If your phone came with 4.3, then it is not possible to flash another rom since the bootloader is locked. Root is possible though.

Actually it is still possible to flash custom roms with locked bootloader: safestrap.
I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (SCH-1605) that is running android 4.4.2. I am currently out of contract with Verizon and I would like to start installing custom roms on my device. However, the latest OTA update has my bootloader locked down like Fort Knox. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mike

You can use a method in the general section to get root, which isn't one click, but you have to unlock the bootloader to install custom recovery to flash roms which can't currently be done on 4.3 and up for this phone.

I am having no luck downgrading the software on my verizon S4 to OC1 from OF1.
I used odin 3.09 and odin 3.10.16 with it failing.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

That's because once the i545 is updated to OC1 there is no way to downgrade.
Usually the Odin flash will fail with a message similar to :
Fail (Auth.)

so thats a solid no to downgrade even from the micro update
To the best of my knowledge the i545 is very unfriendly when it comes to downgrading bootloaders /firmware.
The only S4 model that I know of that is downgrade friendly is the i337.. Infact I know from experience that it can be downgraded from lollipop back to kitkat with a simple odin flash.
The only way a microupdate can be Downgraded is if the bootloaders... Which include TZ (trusted zone) are practically the same and only system files change... But this is rare with Verizon phones specially after Knox.
Two things... There are threats of Verizon s4 that warn about update OTA, no way to return previous bootloader my friend... muniz roms are the only capable of cuz they don't update bootloader I did recently downgrade from of1 to nc5 with no problems.... S4 must be deactive OTA, if I could I would return to MDK bootloader unfortunately when I receive this was already in NK bootloader.... That's Verizon....

The I545 can be downgrading just like any other model but only to where you rooted it at. So me MDK. I can go all the way back to when phone was purchased. Nk1 they would be able to revert back to Nk1 and so on. If you took the OTA then your bootloader got upgraded. stang5litre 5.0 Edition doesn't upgrade your bootloader.

Incorrect. My rom doesn't upgrade your bootloader. Read comment I left above. Where ever you are rooted at is where you can go back 2. Plan and simple. My ROM doesn't update the bootloader.

I'm afraid there is nothing you can do if you took the update. As far as I know it patches all root methods. So If your on OF1 from Ota by Verizon they upgraded your bootloader and now your stuck with stock verizon without Root. [emoji45]

To down grade to previous versions........ the only way that can be done is if you have the OC1 .pit file (mapping file) and the other files ...... without the .pit file it cannot map to a previous version.
In other words......... without the .pit file it cannot be done ........ Sorry

You could flash the 0c1 kernal in odin and the use mobilego to root.
However i cannot apply any custom roms without soft brick/bootloop. Still trying to get xposed working...
