If you don't know your root method, how do you know you're rooted?
Maybe your confused, do you know what being "rooted" means?

One of the Kingo variants did something with the camera code on the phone if I understand correctly.
That was the focus of speculation that the rooting method installed malware on the phone. You may have been hacked.
So, to help you understand what you need to tell us to help you:
1. "Galaxy S4"? What model? Settings/More/About phone, then look at the "Model number".
2. What build? Same screen - Build Number.
You'll need to repair whatever damage was done by the rooting tool by recovering the camera stuff. Probably the easiest way to do that is to re-flash a factory stock ROM and re-root.
Use my rooting program. It won't mess up your camera.

It doesn't matter if you are rooted already, just follow the instructions for unlocking.
I actually rooted before I unlocked and I'm doing fine now.

So would I be safer using CASUAL or flash a bootloader through odin to unlock?
I was rooted before unlocking. I just flashed back to stock with odin and used casual

No. In fact some root methods lock out CASUAL. Its been a problem in the past where CASUAL cannot get root because user rooted, sealed exploit holes in an odd manner then unrooted or temp unrooted.
Its best to be stock.

My last post was implying rooting is the first process of casuals command...meaning in order to unlock the device must be rooted. Casual roots the device before unlocking...do you follow what Im saying? Now get off my sack -n- ballz already! :good:

Yeah, but that statement causes problems. people go searching for a way to root first then they use CASUAL and it causes problems. Also, noobs repeat that. I didn't mean to come across as a ****.

I think I might have accidentally let my VZW Note II accidentally update to 4.3. (although I swear that it did it by itself without my permission. or it that not possible? I have denied it for a long time)
Anyway, what are the chances of rooting the phone now? How do I root it?

Saferoot.. search it in the forums.. just a reminder bc A LOT have people been doing this.. Rooting your phone does NOT allow you to install custom recoveries or Roms. .so please don't make that mistake of thinking you can flash something

Rooting can be done using Saferoot and framaroot and others.
But be advised as said previously. . This will not allow you to have a custom recovery like TWRP, Philz or CWM and install custom roms! Unless it has a unlocked bootloader. As of now theres no simple friendly way to do this anymore. Only solution is to have mobiletechvideos downgrade your chip and send it out to them for a service fee. There highly recommended on here for doing this. Hopefully a fix will be released soon as many people are working on this.
Good luck

You got the answers on rooting, I would just add that yes after a period of time of you denying the update it will just do it on its own. In the future root and freeze the update program. In this case SDM 1.0

XDA developer h311sdr0id made a post a while back to help out with rooting the sch-i605 on 4.3. You can find his post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2608827
I'm still on 4.1.2, so I haven't had to use it yet, but this seems to be the method that a lot of other people are using to root their devices on 4.3.
Thanks to k1mu for posting the root method and h311sdr0id for pointing it out for the Note 2.
Good luck!

I think I must have read too many threads and got confused.
After using Saferoot, I was able to root in less than 5 minutes.
The only problem now is that I have no idea why I want or need root at all. Are there any interesting apps that require root?

You can use titanium backup and restore apps. You can also download xposed framework and there are some random mods with that and you can also disable ads with ad blockers. Honestly that's pretty much all I use it for. I'm pretty upset this happened to me. In really hoping that the devs are continuing to work on safe strap for our phones so we can at least install other tw roms

I have a SCH-i545 model GS4 running build number KOT49H.I545VRUFNC5, and I'm looking to try to root my phone, but I can't seem to locate a rood method that says it works for that build. Is it just too new of a build? To rare? Am I just being a moron and looking in the wrong place? I'd really appreciate some help, as there are a few things bugging me about the phone since I updated to KitKat that I know rooting would help.
There is no direct root method for kitkat....but there are a couple downgrade/upgrade methods available.

theres no native method being worked on that hasnt been explored at this time. the trouble is we dont want to break knox or trigger it by rooting that would break our warranty. otherwise there are a few options from the international version that would work for us too its just ummm whats the point when you can downgrade then upgrade and avoid triggering knox and come out with root and safestrap which is what everyone wants/needs to flash a custom rom. you can check out my thread in my signature for the easiest way known to man.

Ok, I understand that we already have root, but I have used auto root many times with other phones. I am always able to install TWRP directly after on any phone I use. I guess maybe its because the bootloaders are already unlocked?

it'll probably be your only method. the Chinese seem to be taking over these root and jailbreak exploits. over on iOS, TaiG is the only group who has a jailbreak for the newest versions of that. and kingroot seems to be getting a similar status for people who want one-click root exploits.
keep in mind, root is a dangerous thing and it seriously harms the security of your device. you may not trust the Chinese, but they've probably been doing this all along.
good news though, you can replace the kinguser stuff with SuperSU somehow. don't ask me, I'm still running KitKat

Apparently you can flash Stang5litre ROM on OTA 5.01 using Flashfire. I haven't tried it myself but if you go to the last couple of pages on the Stang5litre topic you will see post from those who were successful in flashing it on OC1.
