Root method for build KOT49H.I545VRUFNC5? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I have a SCH-i545 model GS4 running build number KOT49H.I545VRUFNC5, and I'm looking to try to root my phone, but I can't seem to locate a rood method that says it works for that build. Is it just too new of a build? To rare? Am I just being a moron and looking in the wrong place? I'd really appreciate some help, as there are a few things bugging me about the phone since I updated to KitKat that I know rooting would help.

There is no direct root method for kitkat....but there are a couple downgrade/upgrade methods available.

Thanks! Is there a method being worked on? If so, I can be patient. If not, I'll go ahead and look into the downgrade/upgrade methods.

theres no native method being worked on that hasnt been explored at this time. the trouble is we dont want to break knox or trigger it by rooting that would break our warranty. otherwise there are a few options from the international version that would work for us too its just ummm whats the point when you can downgrade then upgrade and avoid triggering knox and come out with root and safestrap which is what everyone wants/needs to flash a custom rom. you can check out my thread in my signature for the easiest way known to man.

Where can I find that native root method that would trigger knox. I don't care about the warranty, and didn't even know there was an option.

i used this method and it worked great.... my question (which may be stupid) is?? the swap call function on the keypad dial was switched to record call which I don't need. Is their any way to fix this so I retain add/swap call function? I don't need record call at all or the black keys.

There are people working on root and @Hashcode is looking into getting Safestrap to work with it. But as to a recovery like twrp or CWM no dice on any build after mdk to install that.

I think you are hosed if you are already on MJ7
Pardon if this is a noobish response, but can't we just use ODIN to force downgrade back to a build we can root and/or use custom recoveries?

There are no confirmed cases of anyone managing to downgrade even using JTAG. It's best to assume that you'll probably never be able to downgrade.

Hmm. The basis of my statement:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2500826
Has anyone ever heard more from h311sdr0id about his post (see here) to get more info about this "state" that allows you to flash MDK over ME7 in Odin

No response. I know that h311sdr0id is "indisposed", of course. However, nobody has come forward to say that they've witnessed this. Thus my claim that it's unconfirmed.
It'd be great if JTAG was able to do this, but I'm rather skeptical given the fuses that get blown with each build to block going backwards. However, there is some hope as these are qfuses.

MJ7 Progress to Flashing

So we on MJ7 obviously at this point are stuck with barely gaining root and still not able to flash custom ROMs... So I'm making this thread for us to post up any leads or any questions we have on furthering our phones to be able to flash...
Any devs currently working on this would be helpful to chime in to let us know what's up and what you need for us to help...

Your telling me! I did a lil research and saw that there were ROMs for the s4 and I just got it the other day and coming from the s3 I was like this will be easy to root and flash again..... Pshhhh come to find out I bought an MJ7 so the rooting process was a pain in the @#$%& lol
So figured I'd start a place for us with this crappy problem to discuss stuffs lol

I just recently bought a new S4 as well with MJ7 on it and I'm going crazy all over looking for a way to root and install a custom rom specially now that this one came out for us on the S4 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2524644 ufff!!! I will be watching over this!!!!
Admittedly I'm new to this, but from my research, can't you just flash an old kernel/version and then install whatever you want?
Wouldn't this method work? galaxys4root . com/galaxy-s4-root/how-to-root-verizon-galaxy-s4-sch-i545/
Basically put in ODIN mode and install an old image, then you can install the ROM you want, right?

Exactly.
If you are on a newer version of ROM, you cannot go back.
That is why, one should be very careful about taking an update.
Thanks for the info. Glad I didn't try that
When I got my device it was at least two versions back, so there's no way to factory reset my device to what I got when I first received my device?

It's relatively well documented that you cannot downgrade from MJ7. If I recall, it's not a hard brick. It's either a soft brick or the flash just fails.
I have faith that we'll have an answer to this soon. Devs never take long to find a workaround.

@Stolly08 what method did you use to Root? I'm still hesitant to try...had my VZ GS4 (running MJ7) for about 3 weeks now.
I'm basically trying to rid my device of bloatware (and praying to eventually flash custom ROMS whenever we all figure that out )
After having HTC phones for 5 years, all rooted, I said enough of the crappy battery life and decided to take the Samsung mainly because of the huge dev support and good battery life. Kinda bummed out we dont have root for MJ7 with unlocked boot loader but Im sure the Dev's are working hard to get it for us

One of the Kingo variants did something with the camera code on the phone if I understand correctly.
That was the focus of speculation that the rooting method installed malware on the phone. You may have been hacked.
So, to help you understand what you need to tell us to help you:
1. "Galaxy S4"? What model? Settings/More/About phone, then look at the "Model number".
2. What build? Same screen - Build Number.
You'll need to repair whatever damage was done by the rooting tool by recovering the camera stuff. Probably the easiest way to do that is to re-flash a factory stock ROM and re-root.
Use my rooting program. It won't mess up your camera.

There currently is no native root method for NC5 but you can downgrade partially back to MK2 and gain root.
Read through this thread and really take your time and make sure you do all the steps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2726868
Downgrade method is a little further down in the OP

It works. It was confirmed by someone in that thread, but I don't have the link. It shouldn't trip knox either.
Root without tripping Knox? Thought that was impossible as Knox is in the bootloader.. Hmm.. May take a look at this when i get my S5. I don't have any sort of warranty on it as i got it from swappa. But interesting.. Wonder what Sammy is gonna do bout this since they just got a number of devices confirmed for enterprise due to knox.
I can confirm this, I have just rooted my Tmobile S5 and my knox flag says 0x0 I'll post a picture in a second. This method works for us.
Works great! Can't comment about Knox as mines already tripped, but root is super easy as the tethered method as well
Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk
Knox would probably be tripped once you install a custom recovery though
