I'm on the latest CM11 nightly and I use the stock messaging app and have no issues with SMS or MMS. Go to the Play Store and download Offline Sim APN Database. Open it up and select Search APN Settings for this SIM. Select any of the the four options, then select Go to Android APN Settings. Select the bottom option, I forget what it was oringally called because I renamed it. Then change to these settings:
Password= *
Server= *
MMSC= http"colon"//mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms (Couldn't put an actual colon due to new user policy)
MMS proxy= (leave blank)
MMS port= 80 or (leave blank)
MCC= 310
MNC=120
APN type=mms
Then save changes.

OK I made the changes as you noted but mms will still not download.
Is there a way to verify that my phone is using the apn settings that I saved?

Depending on your ROM, you may have to turn off WiFi and have 3g on before sending messages. I had that issue with some ROMs. There is an app in the Play store called 8sms. If you go into Settings then MMS settings you can see what MMS settings your phone is currently using.

Hello All,
Hope all you are having a great 2011! I just noticed that my x10i cannot receive picture text. When I received the picture text, it popped up like a normal text, however, instead of displaying the picture, it says "message cannot be downloaded". Have anyone experienced the same problem? I had my data traffic disable because I do not have data plan, but after enabling the data traffic, it still does not download. Is there something in the setting that I need to enable in order to receive the picture texts? Thanks for all the help!!

Try using automatic settings. Go to settings and click on Sony Ericsson at the top of the page. It should download it automatically. Make sure your WiFi is off.

You have probably incorrect network settings and the number may be wrong in mobile messaging centre .
See TMobile and check settings .
jje
I went to tmobile web site they checked my number the phone that the sim was in and sent me a message which i ran and this installed relevant information on my phone they then sent an mms which I got however when i try and send an mms it fails to send and reports server response error
Any help?
Try manually setting it up. Google your network mms settings, once you got that in phone settings go to wireless network > mobile networks > APN. Settings should be under your network provider and copy and paste the settings as in the Google search

JJe, (in his own unhelpful way ), is trying to say the message centre number may be wrong.
Go into messaging>menu>settings and check under message centre you have +447958879879
i would also scroll down to mms settings and check under creation mode its set as free
if thats all ok then im afraid im at a loss as to what else it could be except possibly mms not being set up on the account properly. Try ringing them after checking the above and ask them to check that all the socs for mms are currently selected and activated.
Phone number ok
Creation mode set as FREE
Don't get it.

Well today i flashed my EVO 3D to virginmobile, i basically cloned my Optimus V, i have gottem everything to work but still no MMS! data works text and calls work! How can i fix my mms, i already went into ##3282# and changed my APN settings, i still cant get my MMS to work! Any ideas? When I lost my flash info after downgrading from hboot 1.5 to 1.4 S-OFF one of the steps I took to get my phone to play nicely with boost mobile was to connect to wifi and then manually update my profile and then my PRL in that order and everything worked great after that.
Hope this helps!

I would use it, but go to an AOSP ROM first. For example, MIUI or CyanogenMod. make a Nandroid backup.
or you can try doing ##3282# (##DATA#), edit mode, the password is your MSL code (you can retrieve your MSL code by downloading the MSL reader from the market for free). open Data Profile, menu, restore. It'll grab your profile again.
You can also try inputting the APN/MMS server URL settings manually. Download and install "Any Cut" app. Once installed open the app and select "New Shortcut" then select "Activity". Scroll down until you find "APNs" and select it. This will open "Edit shortcut" menu, "APNs" name will appear on the type field so just hit "OK". An "APNs" shortcut will appear in your Home screen. Open it and select "Menu", "New APN". Once there enter the Virgin Mobile APN settings.

When u are finished entering the correct settings hit "Menu", "Save" and reboot the phone.
Hope this helps, Cheers.

I have a rooted, stock rom hox+. Everything great aside from an issue sending/receiving mms. It will be working fine for a little while after boot, then randomly stop working. Rebooting fixes issue. When the issue is occurring, there is nothing to let me know until I find out I never got a mms someone sent, or someone never got mine. Texting app (tried several, they all do it, currently go sms as main) says it sent just fine. When someone sends me a mms, I get the 'download' button, but it tries for a second then does nothing. The problem didn't start occurring until after I deleted the stock sms app. This makes me think deleting it caused the issue.
Unless someone thinks it is something else, I want to restore the default sms app to see if that fixes it. I was stupid and didn't back it up when I deleted it. Is there an easy way to restore the stock sms app? I'd rather not do a factory reset if I can avoid it.
Thanks =D
Can you specified which ROM you are using? Also can verify if your APN's are correctly installed?
If you follow this path : Settings -> click on Mobile Data left part -> Access point names -> APN's
Do you have a black screen with only APN'S & Menu on top? If yes, then you need to create an APN to regain your DATA access.
Who's your service provider?
I am using the stock rom, up to date (4.1.1). APN's are installed and look correct. I'm with AT&T.
Thanks for the help

Finally updating about jtrue's suggestion. Tested to see if any adblock apps were causing the issue. Turns out that isn't it.
If anyone has other suggestions please let me know, this is beginning to get very annoying.
To reiterate: mms will randomly not send/receive. I've done everything I know to troubleshoot it, at this point I'm hoping for helpful suggestions in that direction, or a pointer on how to restore the stock sms app (hoping that will fix it).
Thanks in advance for any help.
I don't think there is anything like this for the Moto X on here or I didn't see it.
The goal is to increase you mobile data speeds.
*Disclaimer*
I don't take responsibility for anyone ruining there data settings or if you speeds are so fast you start having addictions and run up your bill.
First, lets explain what the APN is. It is the Access Point Name. Its function is basically a gateway between your phone, the carrier, and the inter web.
There are a few ways to accomplish this. One is adding the APN in your settings, but I had(and read other people too) where the stock ATT APN overrides the one you create.
Option 1) Adding a APN in Settings.
Go to Settings>Under Wireless & Networks click More>Mobile Network>Access Point Names>Click the Plus
Some info on these settings. If there is nothing in the field below, leave blank. Also if the MMS Port set as 80 causes issues, then use 8080.
The Bearer settings will be a hit or miss if it helps you. eHRPD is for CDMA and is just a software tweak used by verizon to help hand off between CDMA and LTE a few years ago. Sprint users may benefit from this since they are rolling out there LTE.
Name: ATT pta

Password:
Server:
MMSC: https://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS Proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net

MNC: 410
Authentication type: none
APN type:default,admin,fota,mms,supl,hipri,internet
APN Protocol:
APN Roaming Protocol:
APN enable/disable:
Bearer: Default is unspecified, but you can try LTE if you are on GSM. CDMA can use the eHRPD
MVNO Type:
Click on the menu and save. Click the radio button to select the APN, Reboot your phone, and check the APN to see if it is still checked. If it isn't then use option 2.
Option 2) Removing the APN's and creating one
You will need Root for this to work. 4.4 changed some write settings for 3rd party apps. They have to be installed in the system/priv-app/ folder for this to work.
Either google for APN Backup & Restore or install it from the Play Store
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.APNBackupRestore
Step 1) Setup APN App
Option A: If you downloaded the APK.
Then using a file explorer move the apk to system/priv-app/ and install it.
Option B: If you installed it from the Playstore.
Go to Data/App/ and find com.riteshsahu.APN.apk and copy it to your sdcard.
Next using whatever you use to unstall apps, uninstall the APN app.
Then move the apk from the sdcard to system/priv-app/ and install.
I set the permissions to rwx r-x r-x.
Step 2) Backing Up & Deleting Current APNs
Open the app and click the menu button.
The last option is to disable the ICS Check.
Now click on the first options, Backup APNs. A pop up will come up to save the file. Press ok.
If you get a error about the app can't write to the APN settings, then the apk is not installed properly.
Click on the Delete APNs button
A popup will appear warning about deleting them, click ok
Until you reenter a new APN, you will not have Data, SMS, MMS service
Step 3) Install Anycut
Anycut is a app that makes shortcuts. In this case to the Programming menu
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spring.bird.anycut
After you install the app. Do the following
Launch the app and click the button that says new shortbut
Click on Activity
Scroll down till you find the Programming Menu. Click it and click ok to the popup
NOTE: There are 2 listed. Select the 2nd one first. If that doesn't work, then redo the steps and select the 1st one.
Step 4) Create a new APN Via Programming Menu
Click the shortcut that Anycut made
Scroll down to 13 APN Controls. Click APN Config Edit. You should see no APNs listed
Click on the menu and select New APN
Enter the same APN settings from above
There is a setting that you have access to that isn't in the settings option APN. Under the APN Protocol you can select IPv4, IPv6,IPv4/IPv6. From what I read this is experimental and may not improve anything, but tmobile customers may find this working.

I will add in any credits later,
This is what it did for me. The first screenshot is showing the 41(full service as you notice) then I reverted back to original apn. Those are normal at my house. The last 2 are at my school.

This is from a Austrailian site. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1663451
There are alot of sites that have different setups for each carrier, but not many that explain what they mean. Here are some of them.
The FOTA and MMS are obvious. trying to find info on the admin and internet.
1. Dial Up Network (TYPE_MOBILE_DUN)
This is really old but might be used for some very old networks. Networking Bridge so that the carrier is aware of DUN traffic. It may coexist with default data connections.
3. High Priority Mobile data {TYPE_MOBILE_HIPRI}
A High Priority Mobile data connection. This connection is typically the same as {TYPE_MOBILE} but the routing setup is different. Only requesting processes will have access to the Mobile DNS servers and only IP’s explicitly requested via {@link #requestRouteToHost} will route over this interface if a default route exists.
Below are the APN TYPES that you set in the APN config on your phone.
1. Default (TYPE_MOBILE)
The Default Mobile data connection. When active, all data traffic will use this connection by default. Should not coexist with other default connections.
3. supl (TYPE_MOBILE_SUPL);
A Secure User Plane Location specific Mobile data connection. This connection may be the same as {TYPE_MOBILE} but it may be different. This is used by applications needing to talk to the carrier’s Secure User Plane Location servers for help locating the device
