So, I got my Venue rooted, and was changing the boot animation, had one I liked but it had pixelation from bad quality png files. I made a new one with better files, all the right resolution settings etc. anyways, I am now stuck in bootloop. I never imagined needing to make a backup for a boot animation so I am stuck for now. Can't access recovery mode, get the dead droid with the red exclamation mark. I have attempted to adb pull or push with no success, or even update to 4.3 from fastboot. I am completely out of ideas besides a warranty exchange from Dell, which I would rather not do. Anybody have something for a possible fix?
Anybody?

when you see the dead droid press volume up and down quickly back and forth and it should show up the recovery screen. From there I believe you could flash something with the update.zip. I could be wrong though..

I appreciate the attempt, but nothing happens with hitting the buttons, I have a second, identical venue and will attempt to pull the system files, recovery etc. over and flash them to the soft bricked one, hopefully that will work.

I know for a fact there's a button combo to get past the droid with a ! . I do it with my droid razr m but I forgot how to bypass it.
when at the droid on its back screen press volume up and power button for 2 seconds to enter recovery mode.
Its kinda tricksy but all you have to do is at the ! Hold the vol + down then hold power at the same time. Let go of both pretty quick and Bob's you're uncle. It may take bunches of tries.

Hi tehre, i'm having problems to get the phone into the download mode, i'm hoding the vol down key along with the power button, but the only thing i get is the phone showing Samsug vibrant and restarting over and over again.
Am i doing something wrong? I just downloaded an app from the market called wuick boot, i tried selecting the bootlader option, but same thing, the phone just reboots, and i get back to the phone menu.
Any help will be more than apprecciated.
Thanks in advance!
Is your phone rooted? I had the same issue and resorted to just doing it by using a terminal command on my rooted phone.
If you have a terminal app, just do this:
Code:
>su
#reboot download

Just so happens I nearly bricked mine last night. Couldn't even get into recovery mode or see the charging icon when I plugged it in. Here's what I did (after much trial and error):
1. Removed SD and SIM card
2. Removed battery
3. plugged the phone into USB
4. held down vol-up and vol-down
5. popped the battery back in while holding vol buttons
...and that got be from looking like I was dead in the water to download mode and a stock ROM flash.

Work for New Vibrant?
Hey guys, I have a new Vibrant, Im guessing its the new batch of Vibrant because I can't use the volume up+down +power to go into recovery or download mode. I just wonder if this also works for my version of Vibrant because I did a lag fix and it bricked me... Therefore if this works, I would be so happy that I will cry. =( I'll try it anyways, but if anyone have a similar device to mine, please let me know I would love to get some info on it. =( I just needs it to be in Download Mode to flash it with ODIN back to stock. =)
By the way, would you mind telling me what stock rom you use? and software to flash it? Thanks a lot! I appreciate all of your help! Im really desperate to get my phone back to work... its been showing up vibrant screen make a start up sound and go blank... so scary...

Did you remove the sim? Is the phone plugged into a pc via the usb cord? From my experience, the vibrant will only go into download mode if it's plugged to a pc.
I think I also got the new batch of vibrant. Maybe we should get a list of release date and serial of the phone. Maybe we might be able to figure out which phone can or can not use the vol down + power. Mine is 8/13/2010 rs 170-0412

I will try that as soon as I get the phone back. My cousin has it now and he's trying to look for methods to help me fix it too. =( So i will go get the phone soon and try your methods of removing everything. I just wanted to ask you guys to see if you guys had that recovery mode function (volume up _ volume down +power) disabled by T-Mobile. Because if all of you guys have the new batch of Vibrant then most likely mine will have a chance too. =) But thanks for the reply and the tip I will definitely follow all of your instruction and update further about this case. Hopefully it would work with your methods for the new vibrant batch. No one here seem to post much threads about the new batch.

Yeah I definitely got the new batch since I cant use that recovery mode function like everyone else here does. I also got mine in August, 8/28/10. I dont have the box and phone to see the serial right now since it was taken to my cousin house to try and figure out a way to get it into download mode. =( But from the looks of it, anything from August is disabled... wonder hows the July one. My brother has a Vibrant from late July, which is July 23, 2010 and his recovery mode isn't disable at all. =(
I had the same problem last night... thought I bricked... my phone was stuck at the vibrant screen.. and my phone is the newer model.... but I still figured out a way to get it to let me send an ADB command.. I posted a guide in the android dev section... let me know if that helps...

I have another story. I bricked my Vibrant trying to go back to stock using Odin it hung on a step. The brick to where the (Cell Phone ! Computer) comes up. After 30 minutes of panic trying to get my phone to go into download mode. I opened Kies mini, unplugged my USB connector plugged it into a new USB slot then hooked up my Vibrant and re installed the drivers. It found it. But I still couldn't do anything. So then I closed Odin reopened it unplugged and then re plugged my Vibrant back in. It found it on a COM port so then I tried a restore from there and it let me do it. Wow! I am amazed at how hard it is to permanently brick this phone.
I hold the power button and volume button down what do I do to go in recovery I can't just turn the phone on I messed it up and it stays on Motorola dual core that's it
I have tried fastboot, and other RSS, and no recovery please help before I smash the phone thank you

once you see the fastboot at the top you have to scroll down untill you see android recovery. volume down until you see it. then volume up to enter. then you will get the droid and triangle, hit both volume up and down and the menu will op
**edit** this is the stock recovery, not recovery used to flash roms and create NAND backups.

this is true for BSR system recovery, for stock android recovery you do not need to be plugged in.
U might need to sbf if ur phone can't get into bootstrap via powerdown and plugging in.
or if a data wipe from Android stock recovery doesn't help.
There is a very nice tutorial on how to do it...a couple of em....one is a sticky so its easy to find...

Yeah...sbf isn't really that complicated...especially once u have all files/programs u need already installed it really.is only a 15min process depending on computer speed.
I use my sisters computer and the flash is done within 10minutes every time...
And yeah after rereading the op I also think they were looking for stock recovery.
Power and volume down. Then scroll wit volume down til u see android recovery. Then volume up to enter.
Once.u see triangle &exclamation point press volume up&down together. Presto.
But even still. Every time I have been stuck at M logo I needed to sbf...no amount of data wipes would help me...especially the first time it happen to me since I deleted init and build.prop. DURP! Lol

I am desperate and have searched all over several forums to hopefully find someone else that has pulled this boner and had the same situation. I seem to be the only one ... LOL
I tried updating my Razr Maxx to Blur_Version.6.16.211.XT912.Verizon.en.US (actually is 6.16.215). I got a stock 211 on my Razr using RSD. It booted into recovery afterwards and I just went ahead and tried plashing 215 from the SD card. All seemed to be going well, phone rebooted afterwards and showed it was "Optimizing Apps". I walked off to do something and when I came back my Razr had a black screen. I tried to turn it on, No Go. I tried the Reboot (Vol - plus Power buttons), No Go. I tried to boot into recovery (power and both Vol buttons). No GO
The facts as I know them. I did not unroot before trying to flash 215. When I plug the charger in, I get the LED in the upper left for a moment and then it goes out. I have charged the phone for 7 hours and then tried all the boot up options (regular, soft reboot, Recovery). Nothing seems to work to turn my phone on so I can retry everything via RSD or whatever I need to do.
I know this is long, but I really need your help .... From all you guru's ...
Thanks in advance. I am at work so I may not be able to reply right away. Thanks again.

Hi,
Today I helped a friend flash a custom rom on a galaxy gio and I opened cmw on my phone to help him go to the right menu's in cmw.
I think I changed the ext4 partition to 0mb (don't realy know how :s) and now when I boot android Instead of the bootscreen with the red m I get some white text with some different options (like boot in adb (about 10 options)) it also tells me I can move change option with volume down and accept with volume up, but these don't do anything :s.
After I wait for a while android just starts booting like normal and everything seems fine, but when android has booted it seems like the touchscreen move up for like a centimeter (if I want to press a button I need to touch the screen under the button) and my soft keys don't work anymore (but I think this is because of the moved touchscreen)
What did I do and how can I make it normal again? I'm running the latest GB Mrom.
Edit:this is the screen I get when there normally is a red circle with the white M in:
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Thnx if anyone can help me!
I've been trying somethings and if I don't have my usb cable plugged in I can choose some options on the menu, it seems now that I somehow removed my clockwordmod recovery and went back to old recovery? Is this even possible?
Should I just reflash cmw with fastboot again?
Plz help me
I would hold of on flashing another recovery until someone more knowledgeable than I comes along. There might be a chance where you can do permanent damage. Seems like it could have simply deleted their boot logo, and now instead of those options being normally hidden, are being shown. (like when you boot while holding volume down). What happens if you try booting with volume button held down?
Edit: If all else work as it should, just leave it. Makes it look like verbose mode. Forget Motorola and their stupid 'm'. =P

If I hold volume down + power while booting I get the same thing, and everything works normaly, BUT my touchscreen is messed up, the every touch gets detected to high (if I want to hit app drawer I need to push between the home and back soft button) and the soft buttons don't work.
Oh right, you did mention that, my bad. Well, I'd say hold off for someone that might know what happened as I've never read about or experienced something like this. Maybe try posting in the main XDA Q&A section not specific to Atrix as someone might have had a similar issue with another device (maybe even a Moro) Sorry can't be of much help. Good luck.

touchscreen problems are usually related to the pds partition. Did you by any chance make a backup before these problems started?
I don't know if the bootscreen is related to the PDS partition but it might be that this partition is corrupted.

but could that also explain the weird boot message with the options? (or is it also called animantion, because the Mrom annimations works normal (the blue android guy))
I had mistakenly done something that resulted in your exact problems once. What I did to fix. First you'll need to fastboot a recovery again. Next you'll have to do the pds partition fix. Then lastly flash the proper boot logo back to get the m screen. The first step is dependent on you being able to get into fastboot so hopefully you can.

Ok, I just reflashed the recovery with fastboot and then I flashed the PDS partition fix and the touchscreen works perfectly again. Only the red M is still gone.

Actually here you go. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1423763
Alright, so I literally just received a replacement phone after having my Galaxy s4 broken for about 3 months. So naturally the first thing I do it is try to root it so I can get CM on it, but the factory the updated my phone to the VRUEMJ7 build, which apparently you can't actually hard root... so whatever, I do the saferoot, and use Hashcode's Safestrap recovery. But, for some reason I always feel the need to test **** that I don't understand, so in his recovery I switched the active ROM to the stock rom, then tried to reset to factory default, deleting all the data and whatnot, thinking I would be able to get more space for my CM partition. Welp, now my phone is stuck at the Samsung/Custom lock spash screen, and I don't think I can boot into Odin (it's still volume rocker up + power button, right?)
So, is my phone now hard bricked, or it there anything I can do about it? I'm downloading the image from this thread as I type this, but I'm not sure I can use it considering when I try to boot into Odin the blue text flashes in the upper right corner like normal, but then the screen goes black while I continue holding the buttons, and doesn't do anything until I release them, which causes it to just go back to the bricked splash screen.

You reset your stock rom My advice is to read up on what you can and can't flash, and if you have even the slightest doubt, ask someone on the forums for, help. That saved me loads of time and stress.
ODIN/Download Mode
Make sure your device is completely off
Key(s): Volume Down
While holding this key down simultaneously press the Power button until you see a disclaimer on the screen
Then let go of both buttons and press Volume Up to accept the disclaimer
Once the green robot is visible on the screen this indicates that handset is in now ODIN/Download mode
Recovery Mode
Make sure your device is completely off
Key(s): Volume Up
While holding this key down simultaneously press the Power button
As soon as the phone vibrates, let go of the Power button but keep holding Volume Up
When you see the "Samsung Galaxy S4" logo (not just the word "Samsung"), right after that, the next screen you should see is your recovery
Don't let go of Volume Up until you see your recovery

Sorry, not to sound ungrateful for the help, but I feel like you're not reading what I'm saying :/. I would love to be able to do that, but as of right now I'm unable to get into Odin. Unless you can get into Odin using ADB or something of the sort that won't help me.

ah my fault
You can always enter download/Odin mode. Hold the HOME button and the volume down button when powering on until the screen turns on.

Take the battery out and wait ten mins then put it back then try to boot in download mode. If you didnt flash over sbl 1-3 and aboot you should still be able to get into download mode. If not boot into recovery mode then clear cache and then try to boot to download mode. And what blue text in the upper right corner are you talking about? Download mode doesnt display that and recovery displays blue text in the upper left.

I posted in the Safestrap thread asking for help too, and someone pointed out that you need to hold the buttons for Odin and release them when the phone vibrates, and I was keeping them help. Thanks so much for the help guys, I should be able to flash the recovery image and save my phone now.
