I'm trying to extract the Astraware crossword app (which came with the Nook and has no Ads) using File Expert app from the Nook HD+ so that I can install it on the HDX. I was able to back it up to an apk file but it would not let me transfer it to the desktop. It created the apk file, just wasn't visible on the desklop side. Any suggestions?
Try apk extractor

This may be common sense but I was having problems earlier syncing my kindle for mac and pc books with my Kindle for android. The kindle app on the nook is a nice alternative to the built in B&N reader for the availability of .mobi files.
Basically this is how I wireless sync my kindle app with my kindle for mac. If there is a better way I'd love to hear it.
Requirements:
-Dropbox app and dropbox on pc/mac.
-.mobi ebook file (or any other file readable by kindle)
-Root Explorer or similar
-SD card.
1) take the .mobi file or .azw file you want in your kindle app and put (or copy) it in your drop box. (I use calibre to edit the metadata/ add a table of contents if they are not already present before I move them).
2)Open dropbox app and download ebook. Then exit dropbox.
3) Open root explorer then to /sdcard/dropbox. Hit menu then multi-select, select the book (or books) you want to move and hit move. Go back to parent folder.
4) Go to the kindle folder (should be in /sdcard/kindle) you have to use the kindle folder on the sd card.
5) Click paste and exit root explorer.
6) To get your kindle app to sync with your sd card you have to pop the sd card out and put it back in. I just press it twice.
7) Open up kindle app and your books should be there.
Obviously you can avoid doing this by using an sd card reader and just dragging the books, into the kindle directory straight from your computer but this is just a neat way to do it via wireless.
Also you can load apks from dropbox if you want.
On my sd card i created a folder called kindle...... i put my files in there and the kindle app see's them all. woot
I happen to be failing searching the market and the interwebs,
I can't find a way to open .rar files from my phone, this is my first android phone; but im starting to miss the WinRAR app on my HTC touch pro.... (not literally, but I want that app on android xP)
Is there any .Rar file uncompressers? (for non-root users?)
androzip, its in the market.
Where does the default browser store downloaded apk files? I downloaded a few apk files that refuse to install, so i'd like to move them to my sdcard so i can sideload them using adb. Where would i find the downloaded files?
They're under Library>My Nook>My Files>My Downloads
Hope this helps.
that will not allow you to install your apks, just show you where they are. your best bet is to install "root explorer" and open it and go to the media folder, then my files & finally, my downloads. install your apk from there, or move it to SD. Hope this helps.

Thanks Swiissjokr. Found them using ES File Explorer.
/media/My Files/My Downloads/.
Copied them over to the SD card, and will sideload them from my laptop using adb.
Where the downloads go
After practically pulling my hair out over this same problem, I finally found my downloads by going to my library. First is the Books category, scroll down there are Movies, keep scrolling all the way down through all the categories and the last one is My Files. That is where I find my downloads. Hope this helps. :fingers-crossed:
I have a few apps that I used market unlocker to acquire on my Atrix (notably nba game time). Despite using market unlocker on the Prime I am not able to find these apps in market... is there any way to move the installed apps from my Atrix to my Prime?
You could try to copy the apk from you Atrix to the Prime (you need an file manager for this). It should be located in /data/app/ folder. You might need root for that. I never tried without so I can't say if you can copy without root access.
If you send the apk via bluetooth rename the apk to zip otherwise the Prime won't accept the file. On the prime rename back to apk and click on it to install.
Hope that helps.
thanks but not locating the file (and yes i'm rooted and i'm using Astro file manager)
Have you tried backing it up with Titanium Backup, then transferring the backup files to the new device?

will give that a try and repost, thx for reply
I'm requesting the silk browser APK file from the kindle fire.
To get the apk file use root explorer. (note: needs root)
Go to system, then apps, then copy the app named browser.
Then upload it here or something like dropbox and post the link here.
Thanks!

I'm not running the stock kindle android anymore, so I can't get it.
I believe you can extract the apk if you get the system.img of the kindle OS, then look in /system/app/.
I saw a system.img for the kindle fire 2 in Hashcode's CM10.1 ROM thread, have a look there?
