Hello, I now have a SGS2 9100P with 4.1.2 stock ROM rooted with PhilZ CWM based recovery.
I would like to upgrade it to KitKat 4.4 and I found out 3 candidates:
CM11
SlimSaber
OmniRom
I don't want any special feature, I would only like to have the plain Android with GApps and a good CPU/battery performance, but I need all the HW feature active (such as front camera, NFC, tethering...).
I would also like to be sure I can get back to current ROM just restoring my current Nandroid backup.
Which one would you suggest and why?
Any other candidate?
Thank you very much!
[EDIT]
Important: this is not about what's the best ROM, I'm only asking which one of those will allow me what I asked.

Hey...i'm from SlimSaber thread...
So....my suggestion and why.
Kitkat is immature as of now....afaik...and yes...I did test Slimkat Sabered ....but...if yoj don't need features.....you could go for it with couple of common #blame Samsung issues and such....I really don't know about NFC or any workaround to get it working...or if it works....so....the best I can suggest is....close this thread and go for a reading trip over the threads and look at responses by users....you don't even need to ask anything....a lot is going on and peeps keep posting this n' that....just read man....and you'll become enlightened man:good:
Beam-ed through your pineal gland via//Android 4.3.1//
Thanks for your answer, but keeping pace with those three threads is impossible by a human beeing!
I thought those few questions were quick ones for ones who knows the three ROMs listed.
If they three all can be completely reverted with a nandroid restore, I could test them all.

Hi,
I'm also from slim.
In order to resume a little bit, with slim or any aosp based rom:
-Mali drivers, are not from original Samsung source,
-fm radio is absent but you can use an App called spirit FM to have a workaround.
-HDMI output trough micro USB is not available, due to, again lack of drivers from Samsung.
NFC, is not in the slim rom (i don't know other roms), but there is a patch that you can flash (Google xda i9100 NFC) and with slim rom for i9100 + NFC patch, NFC will work, afaik.
Slimkat is still in beta phase, that is to say, most of the great slim enhancements are not still ported due to slim team is working to recode in order to have a real slimkat code rather than adding just the enhancements. That is what makes slim different from others.
Finally, nandroid. you come from stock rom, with philz recovery and you make nandroid.
To flash slimkat, (I don't know other roms) first you must flash a kitkat compatible recovery, and then reboot in recovery to flash slimkat.
IN order to go back from slimkat, from slimkat recovery you should flash first Philz kernel/recovery flashed and used to make nandroid, reboot to recovery and then restore nandroid.

I know telling you try them all is not helping. But that's actually true.
Personally I love SlimSaberKat of @fusionjack.
Anything HW goes smoothly...
NFC is an /p feature so I don't think is implemented in slimkat. I think if you look around you can find how to add it.
Nandroid works
however please note that 4.4 is very different and some apps MAY NOT BE SUPPORTED YET. They will need to be upgraded to new infrastructure but depends on app's developer, not the ROM.
Back to kill button doesn't work... That's all. If you use nav bar you can use that back button and works just fine. I have a task manager and does great job.
Be careful that you have to install first the KitKat recovery then reboot in it and from that install the ROM.
Personally, I like slimkat for DPI, features, smoothness, ART working great, helpful devs, etc...
I suggest (and it will take just a couple of hours) flash first slimkat then any other ROM... You'll return to it finally.
However, note that any KK is still work in progress so don't expect that you flash one last version and you're set for life.
Most important : READ READ READ.

Also, if you use Banks' Core Gapps you don't get the crappy Google experience launcher with it and get to choose for yourself which google apps you want. They also survive OTAs. No need to reflash them every time.

Heya,
I have been trying to get pdroid running on Indie's Omega rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663656), but as yet have been unable to. Currently using Omega v11 but have been trying since v9.
The latest method I have been trying is by using the Auto-Patcher by mateorod and pastime (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1719408). Every different type I have tried comes back with 'error: failed framework.patch'.
So, the main question is, has anyone gotten Pdroid running on Omega rom or a stock S3 deodexed, rooted, rom and if so what patcher/script etc did you use?
Uptil now I have been using LBE but from everything I have read I would be remiss not to use pdroid instead.
I know I could switch to Aokp, CM etc, however I really like Omega rom and would prefer sticking to it if I can.
As this is my first post I hope it is in the right place, if this is not the case I apologise and please feel free to delete or move it as is fitting.
Thankyou in advance!
EDIT: Really? No one has tried putting pdroid on an omega/sammy rom?? Or am I missing something (ie a better alternative, it's not possible, etc)

Hmmm, PDroid hasn't been updated for a while and it was having problems with the latest ROMs in my old (faithful) Galaxy Mini, so maybe when a Universal Patcher comes out as promised by the developer we may be lucky. That is probably my most missed app. BTW, there were other patchers that are meant to continue on pdroid's so I guess you can try them, I haven't myself because I know very little about developing or creating ROMs, etc. I'm barely able to flash after reading the instructions about 32 times.
Unfortunately from what i understood that great tool of autopatchrr is working only on cms aosp and aokp.
We have to hope period owner will throw out a specific version of it for ics jb ...
Thought this thread got buried without a reply. New version of the autopatcher is out, is looking closer to working on non aosp/aokp roms. (if not already?)
The alternative I have been using is LBE security, not the market one as that isn't JB supported.
The english translation of the latest versions are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1422479
Still buggy but overall works well.
LBE is a security problem

LBE is a closed source product. Devs are not responding. The app has complete root access.
=> BIG Security ISSUE
If you really go for security I would use this. Just answer for yourself:
Do you trust the manufacturer of LBE in a way that you open the complete phone for any access for them just to stop a couple of applications accessing your contacts? (just as an example ...)
Finally Noxious Ninja was able to run PDroid on Galaxy S3 with Stock ROM and TouchWiz!
But it's for the Verizon Version.
I hope with this the biggest obstacle is overcome. Maybe here is somebody able to make it analog for the International Version (I9300) and Omega Rom?

Awesome news, nicely spotted. Hopefully it wouldn't take too much to do it for the international. If I knew enough I would give it a go myself.
Been a long time coming.

Maybe it would be already possible to create the patch.., we need to know how he achieve this. I was already writing in there

yes, after you flash ROM to to selected Rom slot, then select the kernel patch zip and flash that after ROM is installed.

I flashed the elclipse rom with no issue and did the kernel patch right after but I can't verify wifi as I am work. My wifi analyzer program sees our WAPs so thats a good thing.
I also did the GPE Rom and kernel patch and wifi does work. My only hiccup was I lost of radio/mobile data on the stock rom as well as GPE rom and took me a bit to see the network selection was not on CDMA/LTE/EVDO. Once I selected that, everything worked

I am fairly new to the Android scene, and even newer to the rooting scene as well.
I am a A+ computer tech, that said I know nothing about Android, rooting or customizing the interface and am learning daily, I have been told by associates that the xda forums are the best resource for finding stable usable custom ROMs and information,
so I enrolled to pick some brains and hopefully learn a few things.
now since my ability to search forums has always has always been "top notch", (Pinocchio's nose got nothing on me by that statement), I'm sure I'll be asking questions that have been asked a bunch of times, I respectfully ask that in stead of flaming me, please just post a link to the proper forum post and I will be greatly appreciative.
question 1.
where do I find a rom install guide for idiots, primarily for a galaxy player 5.0 YP-G70
question 2.
what is the most stable and fully functional ROM for my YP-G70, when I say fully functional I mean camera and all, as I have been reading there are issues with newer ROMs with the back facing camera, and I need the camera to be fully functional as I use it almost daily at work for lables and assembly/disassemby pictures., I've heard that Cyanogenmod is one of the best out there, is there a fully functional and stable version that will work with my YP-G70?
question 3.
an idiots guide for what can be accomplished by rooting and how to do it, such as turning off adds, removing or moving stock programs and settings etc.
there will always be more questions but I won't push the noob envelope to much, these three are my most pressing

The short answer here is stick with stock. The rear facing camera has been a problem on every ROM, except stock based roms. There are some workarounds but If you need good quality photos from rear cam then stock based is your only solution...
Thank you both for the info and direction.
I know to keep something stock is to keep it original.... but what do you mean stock based? an original ROM that has been stripped but the core and drivers are the same?
and what stock based ROM would you recommend for my GP5.0 yp-g70 that might give me a little better performance and nice appearance?
also I haven't had a chance to explore all the information yet, but can someone give me a link to a good source of direction on how to use titanium backup, or some other app to back up my device, OS and apps so if I should get something not to my likeing I can revert back to original.

Scroll down to "5.0 (stock based)"
"Stock based" simply means a modified stock ROM. "stock" sort of meaning; a ROM from the manufacturer. I haven't personally tried any of the stock based ROMS. They may have issues. Im only saying that it is the stock and stock based ROMS that have the potential to have a fully working rear cam. You have to read in each post to find out if there are issues.

AT&T (geeb) L Jolla Kernel V12
AT&T (geeb) L Jolla Kernel V12
WiFi does not work. Someone was able to start it?
Someone managed to connect a memory card?
I tried it, and found rear camera and sd card were not functional.
I tried this Lollipop Rom, i am not able to get 3G network even after i reverted back
Hi,
I Have give a try for the rom based on Lollipop version. In that rom, i am not able to get any 3G network, so then i reverted back to slim kat through nandroid backup. But to my surprise, the 3G network is not available in the Slim kat also, even after i reverted from lollipop rom. I have struck up without 3G as i tried as many roms as possible. can you please guide me to get through this? FYI - I am living in India using the unlocked version of AT&T OG E970 and my current ROM is Paulicat's Kitkat 4.4.2 based on F180's stock.
Thanks in Advance.
Thank you
you are awsome buddy

working data/wifi
As confirmed earlier, a combination of a v11.1 Jollaman Kernel as well as any of the android 5.0 versions seems to work. The only downside to it is that the back camera doesn't work, but I'm sure that will be fixed soon. I don't think it's a problem of camera driver issues, but more of just a kernel problem and implementation with 5.0. Someone should look at the sources between geebkernel and jollaman and try to hybridize them in order to get all 3 things working.
The modified release 17 posted by KevTheGuy addresses the issue of working WiFi, data and camera. I've noticed a battery drain issue on release17 though that limits its usability as a daily driver.
wifi mac address changed
when i use this phone i can not use my hostel wifi because of mac filtering in my college and after installing this rom my mac address changes....this problem is also there on new builts of pa rom by their legacy team. wifi works on router's without mac filtering..pls help me solve the issue.
Another issue I've been having with release17 is that the Bluetooth is not discovering nearby devices. Does anyone else have this issue.
I have a problem "Sdcard: applet not found",i can't mount sdcard1
Flash this kernel:https://mega.co.nz/#!VNcRCCiK!I0cV-A...t7DjP_dEqY_WwU
can you provide mirror for it too ??
newbie here can anyone tell me how to enter busybox command
I'm using a GEEB device (e973) and out of the box data works but camera doesn't. After flashing the GEEB Kernel posted, camera works but it breaks data(4g/3g). Any chance to get a GEEB kernel that doesn't break data?
Consultation geeb e971
Hey guy i have geeb e971 canada version, i can flash this rom? Not have problem?
I flashed this on a e971 Rogers version with no issues (everything works). The only problem I'm having is a fast draining battery about 4hrs of use. Tried turning off WiFi scanning and GPS but it doesn't solve the battery drain. Have not tested Bluetooth yet. No SD card in this device so can't make any comment about that.

friend thanks for the reply provided by you. This means I can flash the rom without problems? when you talk about the battery lasts 4 hours, you mean 4 hours of screen? apart from the excessive consumption of battery there some other bug? as is the flashing method? use the conventional method of wipes or have to make a pattern of different wipes? that custom recovery should be used? currently I have philiz touch. Sorry but my english is not very good looking

Hey guy, restore the backup of your efs folder to restore 3g Connection, check that you have configured the apn from your mobile service provider. If this does not solve the problem Thou shouldst one kdz flash and restore it to its factory stock version.

I used TWRP 2.8.1 provided by brothaedhung in the OP (Original post). Before flashing I wiped system, data, cache and dalvik. Then I flashed the ROM, PA gapps, and superSU version provided in the OP. The battery lasts about 2hrs of screen time. Other than that everything works perfectly. To be honest at this point I still prefer using KK Mahdi ROM because many of the custom features of CM are still missing in this early version (no custom power menu, no way unlink ring and notification volume, no way to customize the notification bar, etc). I'm also not a big fan of the kernel since it doesn't have the options to correct gamma and tune the audio output. I'm not sure if Jolla Kernel L preview works with this build. For an early version of CM for GEEB this is awesome.

Thanks guy, the jolla kernel tends to drain the battery that is the main reason to have 2 hours of screen time. rom which I currently recommend to my e971 since I have the stock rom paulicat kk. to be honest I've been through artmod (with a patch modified by a friend to work on my e971), I had the rom cover gee 3 (flashed as the E970 and works without problems), use the slimkat v7 is good rom but not me was more than 3 hours on screen time, I wanted to use the cyanogenmod but only have in the stable version 10.2 (4.3 JB) has only nightly rest, paranoid does not have support for e971 and e973, not for the moke you I have no information about whether or not it supports the pacman gave me some bug, I'm looking for a well optimized without any kind of bug rom. Sorry for my english, i speak spanish.

HybridRom Concept EditioN
Description:
We all got used to the idea that most stable ROM is a Stock one.
This ROM will prove you otherwise.
Main Futures:
Very fast and responsible ROM based on Z3 aosp concept and GPE libs with amazing battery life and memory management.
Perfect combination of Sony and Google apps.
No bloatware, no adds.
Only 400 megabytes.
Optional modifications.
Installation options:
Feel free to install the rom the way you want it:
Wanna install & forget?
Then LB version without any mods is your choice.
Care about security and want to have nexus like phone?
Then don't install recovery on top of LB version , with encryption your internal storage can be only erased and only using a computer.
Are you advanced user who'd like to experiment with their phone?
Feel free to install mod for theme support and kernel for advanced futures.
You can also convert your phone into a hacking device. (Like in watch dogs game )
Change log:
V2:
Updated Sony and Google apps
Removed:Browser,Google Now,Gmail,Viper,Video(support implemented in Album) and some other bloatware.
Fixed Sony Sound Enhancements
Fixed Write To SD Card (I hope so)
Added new weather widget
Bugs:
Some people might have 5ghz wifi connection problem
In case of the using LB version and Universal Patch, trying to reboot into recovery using advanced power menu will result a bootloop. (System is trying to access a part of kernel which is not available on LB version]. Solution: reboot into flash mode and back.
Wifi may disconnect during screen off no matter the settings. (This is android problem, not my rom)
Installation Instruction:
Make sure that your Bootloader is Unlocked.
Boot in TWRP.
Wipe system,data,and both caches.
Flash the ROM.
FOR LB USERS ONLY: Flash this kernel on top. (Thank @scrubber for that one )
Then (optional, but not recommended) flash recovery for locked bootloder from here
Reboot device.
Prepare to be amazed.

FAQ:
Things you need to know:
Before reporting bug reports make sure that you use this rom without any mods such as Xposed
"App XXX crashes" posts won't help me to understand the problem, learn how to use logcat.
Don't ask for ETA
Before asking something, make sure it wasn't asked before
If you ignore my rules - I will ignore you
Q: Will Xposed work?
A: Yes, but install on your own risk, don't complain if battery life will become worse.
Q: Are themes supported?
A: RRO Layers are. Use Layers Manager + LPThemer(Xposed)
Q: Option "double tap to wake" in settings is not working
A: It's kernel related,so this option won't make any difference.
Q: Can I use old Hybrid Rom v1.x Kernel?
A: It will work, but deep sleep won't, so you will have a massive battery drain.
Q: Are you going to port Sony futures such as stamina, small apps and etc.
A: No, as this requires to use Sony framework. This rom is different. If you want stock futures - take a look at my other projects.
Q: How to allow 3rd party apps to write to SD card?
A: Use this app, you can remove it after applying the fix.
First,
Will try and report you back. Just one question does theme engine from sony is working or not and does it gpe based or stock sony based. Thanks for you great effort.

probably theme engine would not work . Its aosp based with limited sony framework to make only essential sony apps work .This was a new bloatware free concept rom from sony itself.
Ahh @Uncle Lucifer waiting for my exams to get over asap to get back to testing this rom

Nope, it's AOSP Z3 Concept and GPE based.
Clean AOSP Rom with Sony look and Apps.
P.S. If you will have problems with installation, you can try "Modem fix" from GPE thread, as I've heard that ZUltras for Indian market don't like gpe modem.
It have the latest goods from the 1.5UB ROM ? And the camera its from Sony ? How its the battery usage ?
Thanks U for share, this room very small, can have flash add Gapps?

Well it nowhere says that it needs to flash gapps, so no, there's no need

Because I don't have any .zip of gapps on my sd0 I guess you don't need to flash gapps. And flash instructions says none of gapps needed.
Theres no harm to just boot the rom and see if gapps is there. If its not well then u dont have any google apps in your drawer.
edit: the rom is 450MB big...I'd be surprised to see gapps not included in such big file
edit2: in the description it says "Some Google apps removed, others replaced with stock ones." ...lol gapps is included for sure.

Work fine so far on my c6802 with exposed (v74), WiFi work as it should
No modem fix needed (encounter sim card not detected on first boot, but mobile data work just fine :silly
Rom is really smooth. Menus just fly by very smoothly without any skips or lag! No errors or anything. Everything is stable from what I experience.
I am very impressed with your work @Uncle Lucifer
Tried the ROM for a couple of hours. Amazing and smooth. I just wait for more kernel features (OC , governors, hotplugs) like advanced kernel of the OLD HybridROM.

After testing oc and governors for few months I've noticed that more thing you add to kernel, the heavier it gets, and instead of improvements it's getting worse.
The best result are so far is without extra governors and oc.
I mean battery life and performance.
With OC you can get extra 1k in antutu, but I don't think that a really important thing.
Hi !
love the new rom, seem so fast and battery friendly
however i encounter wifi problem seem likely as cm12 custom rom. thats y i never stick with any cm based rom.
on gpe based rom, this bug currently not happening at all.
wifi keep disconnecting after several minutes and cant found any access point, if you try to disable and enable back, its still the same, only reboot will fix this, however wait 10-20 min, wifi will disconnect back, and the bug go on and on.....
i did report to cm12 based thread, about several thread, about 4 months now, the bug still not fix, maybe because it only happen for a few users, so they ignore it. yah, 4month and counting lol.
Uncle, i love your gpe based rom, and this current rom as well, i hope it did well and great as same as previous rom.
im coming from your gpe based rom, however already did full reset.
maybe i need to stick back to your previous rom.

Well, I didn't touch hardware related stuff and I never had this problem.
I mean that wifi should work as on gpe port, as hardware related stuff is still from gpe.
Tey to change wifi-frequency band in settings.

I guess you see this problem, because you have two xperia phones with custom roms. And your phones have same mac address. When you use your phones in same wireless network your wifi will be dropped. Try to change your mac address...

It's just less aggressive therefore it's more battery friendly.
And the minimum level is less, so it's don't burn eyes in darkness.
I personally like it more.
