[Q] Pdroid on Omega rom - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Heya,
I have been trying to get pdroid running on Indie's Omega rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663656), but as yet have been unable to. Currently using Omega v11 but have been trying since v9.
The latest method I have been trying is by using the Auto-Patcher by mateorod and pastime (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1719408). Every different type I have tried comes back with 'error: failed framework.patch'.
So, the main question is, has anyone gotten Pdroid running on Omega rom or a stock S3 deodexed, rooted, rom and if so what patcher/script etc did you use?
Uptil now I have been using LBE but from everything I have read I would be remiss not to use pdroid instead.
I know I could switch to Aokp, CM etc, however I really like Omega rom and would prefer sticking to it if I can.
As this is my first post I hope it is in the right place, if this is not the case I apologise and please feel free to delete or move it as is fitting.
Thankyou in advance!
EDIT: Really? No one has tried putting pdroid on an omega/sammy rom?? Or am I missing something (ie a better alternative, it's not possible, etc)

Hmmm, PDroid hasn't been updated for a while and it was having problems with the latest ROMs in my old (faithful) Galaxy Mini, so maybe when a Universal Patcher comes out as promised by the developer we may be lucky. That is probably my most missed app. BTW, there were other patchers that are meant to continue on pdroid's so I guess you can try them, I haven't myself because I know very little about developing or creating ROMs, etc. I'm barely able to flash after reading the instructions about 32 times.

Unfortunately from what i understood that great tool of autopatchrr is working only on cms aosp and aokp.
We have to hope period owner will throw out a specific version of it for ics jb ...

Thought this thread got buried without a reply. New version of the autopatcher is out, is looking closer to working on non aosp/aokp roms. (if not already?)
The alternative I have been using is LBE security, not the market one as that isn't JB supported.
The english translation of the latest versions are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1422479
Still buggy but overall works well.

LBE is a security problem

LBE is a closed source product. Devs are not responding. The app has complete root access.
=> BIG Security ISSUE
If you really go for security I would use this. Just answer for yourself:
Do you trust the manufacturer of LBE in a way that you open the complete phone for any access for them just to stop a couple of applications accessing your contacts? (just as an example ...)

Finally Noxious Ninja was able to run PDroid on Galaxy S3 with Stock ROM and TouchWiz!
But it's for the Verizon Version.
I hope with this the biggest obstacle is overcome. Maybe here is somebody able to make it analog for the International Version (I9300) and Omega Rom?

Awesome news, nicely spotted. Hopefully it wouldn't take too much to do it for the international. If I knew enough I would give it a go myself.
Been a long time coming.

Ninja didnt share the most important thing. How he managed to run the patcher on that ROM.
Maybe it would be already possible to create the patch.., we need to know how he achieve this. I was already writing in there

If you don't know what PDroid is look here
All I have done is patch MiniCM using this
Flash PDroid.zip in CWM
Flash Restore.zip in CWM if you have problems
Credits:
nAa & co for the ROM
svyat for PDroid
pastime1971 & mateorod for the patches
Go ahead & thank these guys
Usual disclaimers apply
Looks great, I'm gonna try it out NEver heard of it, but seems it offers a better alternative to permission denials
does anybody want me to upload latest patch? (for MiniCM9 3.0.3)
To anyone who is interested there is a pdroid & V6supercharger version, I just haven't tested it...mainly because I like ICS memory management & didnt notice much improvement when using it. Look here
Also could a moderator move this to apps forum, sorry :good:

I've been desperately trying to get pdroid on MiniCM7!
First, I couldn't patch (with either the original patcher or the pastime1971 & mateorod patcher) because the ROM was odexed. So I deodexed it but it still won't work. The patcher created an update.zip output but pdroid keeps displaying the "Bad news: pdroid patch is not installed" message. Even after mount system.
So, my questions are:
1) Did you deodex the MiniCM9 before patching? If you did, did you use kitchen?
2) Did you have any further trouble?
3) Is the deodexed and/or patched ROM noticeably slower than the odexed version? (my non-working patched MiniCM7 was much, much slower than the original nAa ROM)
And the bonus one: is MiniCM9 as fast/reliable as MiniCM7? Should I make the switch? Any flagrant disadvantage?

CM 7.2 isn't currently supported afaik. The last MiniCM7 to be supported by the autopatcher would be v2.1.4
For the most part it works fine, pdroid has a really low overhead I didnt notice slowdown or anything but if you go blocking overboard
then things might FC but its easy to undo.
Don't think our little phone can handle deodexed roms so thats probably why you had issues (could be wrong)
Bonus answer: to be honest, it entirely depends on what compromises you can make as an end user. For my needs, I could tolerate
the little niggles with CM9, they didnt bother me, but they might be a show stopper for you. I was using it daily with no major issues which
would stop it functioning as a phone/media player/time killer. So I guess the best advice would be to try it & decide for yourself
(I really noticed a difference in music EQ - CM9 handled the bass - my dre beats said so)
Speed wise, if you don't mind waiting a second longer every now & then (not always) then not a dealbreaker but again its up to you to
weigh up pros & cons as you use it.
Reliability...only time I got reboots was when trying to stream live tv (unsurprisingly) & wifi speeds seemed slow for me but I might
have missed a trick there...
...thats my two cents!
Im trying out CM10 to check the hype for myself...pdroid patch tested & working. Download from first post
Thanks a lot, brother. I'm at work right now so I can't try any other ROMs but I fear my weekend is going to be spent 50% girlfriend and 50% f'ing up my phone with several ROMs.
I'm gonna read up on CM10 'cause I haven't heard anything about it and also try the MiniCM7 v2.1.4 and CM9 just for fun. If I have any success I'll report it over here.
And just to clear up: I intend to use my phone for calls and texts (duh!), maps, some productivity apps (nothing more demanding than a timesheet) and little games (e.g., Angry Birds). All of these will be used offline because I don't like/trust data plans. So far, I've tested all of these apps in MiniCM7 and all of them work wonderfully; I hope that's the case with the older MiniCM7 or with CM9/10 too.
Have a nice weekend!
Hi, again, brother!
Guess what! I just got PDroid running under MiniCm7.2!
I don't know what I did wrong yesterday (sleep deprivation really messes with my brain). Today I just reinstalled the deodexed version of MiniCM7 (latest version, btw) and reapplied the patch created by patcher v1.31 (patcher v1.32 would not boot - weird).
I guess I won't be trying CM9 or CM10, after all. Well, maybe when a stable enough version of MiniCM9 rolls out I'll try it. Until then, ta-da!
Problem
I have problem with download pDroid of Google play.
On MiniCM9 I can download but I can't download on MiniCM10, so please tell me how to solve this problem.
Thanks and sorry for my English

[Q] Which custom Rom's are compatible with themer for the s5380/s5839ii?

Ello everyone,
I'm running an s5389i with a well known and discontinued Jellybean based custom rom which I'm not allowed to mention on here as it was banned from the forum. Anyway, I've tried installing Themer from the Google Play store, as the custom rom I'm currently using is a bit limited in that respect. However, the rom in question doesn't appear to support themer.
I was just wondering if people could recommend any good, working roms for this phone which support themer? The more customisable the better! Thanks

No you can't Run Themer Beta App in our phone because it requires 4.1 and up and even we doesn't have 4.0 so it is not possible to run it on any custom ROM.
So doesn't the fact that I'm running a user-made Jelly Bean (Android version 4.1.1) completely override that?
Thanks!

[Q] New and needing direction

I am fairly new to the Android scene, and even newer to the rooting scene as well.
I am a A+ computer tech, that said I know nothing about Android, rooting or customizing the interface and am learning daily, I have been told by associates that the xda forums are the best resource for finding stable usable custom ROMs and information,
so I enrolled to pick some brains and hopefully learn a few things.
now since my ability to search forums has always has always been "top notch", (Pinocchio's nose got nothing on me by that statement), I'm sure I'll be asking questions that have been asked a bunch of times, I respectfully ask that in stead of flaming me, please just post a link to the proper forum post and I will be greatly appreciative.
question 1.
where do I find a rom install guide for idiots, primarily for a galaxy player 5.0 YP-G70
question 2.
what is the most stable and fully functional ROM for my YP-G70, when I say fully functional I mean camera and all, as I have been reading there are issues with newer ROMs with the back facing camera, and I need the camera to be fully functional as I use it almost daily at work for lables and assembly/disassemby pictures., I've heard that Cyanogenmod is one of the best out there, is there a fully functional and stable version that will work with my YP-G70?
question 3.
an idiots guide for what can be accomplished by rooting and how to do it, such as turning off adds, removing or moving stock programs and settings etc.
there will always be more questions but I won't push the noob envelope to much, these three are my most pressing

I'm running CyanogenMod 10.2 (4.3.1) and I'm able to use the back camera via High-Speed Camera (there are probably other apps, but this is the one I'm using). I don't know if it works with the other ROMs (and I don't see why it wouldn't), so someone else will have to get back to you w/that one.

If you want to remove stock apps, then you can download Titanium Backup (or an app that's similar) and uninstall them that way.

The short answer here is stick with stock. The rear facing camera has been a problem on every ROM, except stock based roms. There are some workarounds but If you need good quality photos from rear cam then stock based is your only solution...
Thank you both for the info and direction.
I know to keep something stock is to keep it original.... but what do you mean stock based? an original ROM that has been stripped but the core and drivers are the same?
and what stock based ROM would you recommend for my GP5.0 yp-g70 that might give me a little better performance and nice appearance?
also I haven't had a chance to explore all the information yet, but can someone give me a link to a good source of direction on how to use titanium backup, or some other app to back up my device, OS and apps so if I should get something not to my likeing I can revert back to original.
and thanks again for no flaming

Scroll down to "5.0 (stock based)"
"Stock based" simply means a modified stock ROM. "stock" sort of meaning; a ROM from the manufacturer. I haven't personally tried any of the stock based ROMS. They may have issues. Im only saying that it is the stock and stock based ROMS that have the potential to have a fully working rear cam. You have to read in each post to find out if there are issues.

[Q] If no roms support my phone, what can I do?

I have the ZTE Avail 2 (aka Z992) (and it sucks, considering it's a $70 phone, buying a new one isn't an option because I just built a computer). It hasn't had an update since 4.1.1 and it's very slow, (usually have only ~50mb of ram free when just sitting at launcher) even with all of the tricks to speed it up (greenfiy, cleaner, etc) and on top of that, it's loaded with features that ZTE put in that suck. So after searching and searching for a custom ROM with support for my phone, I can confirm there is zero. I looked at the rom dev tutorial - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1272270 and the kitchen program doesn't support my phone either. Does that mean I'm screwed? If there's a way to make a rom compatible other than the android kitchen or straight up learning to program, please tell me. I'm willing to learn anything that isn't hugely time consuming. Thanks for any replies.

No, you are not. You can try many other porting tutorials around the web. I found a list of phones similar to yours, might come in handy.
In fact, since your are trying to "port" ROMs, just think about the fact that "where did those ROMs come from?" Those ROMs were built from source code. The Android project is open source and if you are feeling adventurous, you can just grab the source code and compile it yourself for your device. It might be very easy or very tough, depending on your device. I would advise you to try to build Cyanogenmod 10.1 from source code. Check here and here.
And make sure to check this (must).
Cheers man! Trust me, trying to build Cyanogenmod from source will be a lot of fun!
Thank you! So I found CM for the xperia tipo, which was on the list of similar devices. I should use that one and change whatever needs to be changed, right?
Also, is it possible to do that for 4.4 stock? That may be a better idea if CM consumes too much ram

Oh, I didn't know that would work, thanks again! I have my rom modded like crazy though, tons of xposed modules and build.prop edits, also I uninstalled a lot of stock apps - I'm sure I could get the build.prop somewhere, but what about the other things? Do they matter at all?
Edit: after the backup I now have a ton of tars, a recovery.img, and a boot.img. I extracted all of the tars, now do I just put all of the folders from the tars in a folder with the imgs and that's my base rom?

Okay, I've come pretty far and I've made several flashable zips and fixed many errors, but there's one thing I can't figure out - the updater script doesn't work, and I realized it's because I was using the one from the original port, and I need the one for my phone, which I can't get from the cwm recovery. [2019] New Rom for Ace, is anyone interested?

I can share with you a simple and minimal Android rom that could make the ace completely usable in 2018... Would you be interested?
I think that the best idea is to use Android 2.3 as base (no bloatware, no TouchWiz, and no Android 4.4 that just crazily drains battery)
I' ve tested less known apps that can still run on 2.3 (and found them very fast too). I will replace old system apps with them
I also thought that a good way to push the Ace beyond it's limit is to take a look at the Sony Xperia Play threads on xda. This phone has the same cpu/gpu and it has been supported a lot through the years (being a gaming phone, Devs has done their best to optimize performance instead of themes and useless functions)
Let me know what you want to see in this rom and I'll try to do it!
Just leave a comment with an advice :fingers-crossed:

Hi jaymor,
Regarding 4.4 :
the 4.4. battery consuption problem is caused by Jellybean itself. Devs that made 4,4 roms made a wonderful job, but the the ace hardware doesn't have enough power to work on a so new new/heavy os.
Regarding Whatsapp :
I don't see any reason to don't use WA on Android 2.3
1) they stopped updating it just 4 months ago (I don't know if you have the latest version)
2) they aren't adding new features, and the most important one that is messages criptografy is supported on 2.3
3) WA does nothing else that increasing in size with each version, and you just tell us how limited storage could be annoying on old devices
Regarding GT-S5839i
I checked its specs, it seems to have 158mb of rom and support for micro-sds up to 32gb. Using a custom rom you shouldn't worry about memory.
Unfortunately you can't flash my rom (it's for s5830) I'll surely make a rom also for this device if I had a device for testing it, but first of all I have to complete this rom
Hi Mich-C.
I agree with you : Whatsapp work for now on 2.3, but they announced (I cant post link in XDA, but search Google for "WhatsApp-support-for-mobile-devices" ) it will not work anymore in 2020. Same for Symbian and iOS 6 (and old dino-smartphone).
Not a big deal, but if I could refurb this phone to my kids for free, it will be cool.

Hi jaymor,
Regarding Whatsapp :
I don't see any reason to don't use WA on Android 2.3
1) they stopped updating it just 4 months ago (I don't know if you have the latest version)
2) they aren't adding new features, and the most important one that is messages criptografy is supported on 2.3
3) WA does nothing else that increasing in size with each version, and you just tell us how limited storage could be annoying on old devices

ok thanks
but did you know that this is not an actual Lollipop rom? It's a rom themed to look like lollipop. It was posted here on the forum, if I'm not wrong it's based on cm7.1 (so Android 2.3)

Ok, anyway we still have almost 2 year to keep using whatsapp. I hope that until then it will be replaced by something else.
I would also recompile those apks to make them working on 2.3, but apps like Whatsapp (or even Telegram) are not opensource...

Mmhh, not sure... "About Phone" shows 'Android 5.0' . I never used lollipop so I cannot verify whether it is a lookalike or a ROM. Here in the forums I did not find it, maybe you had " conceptL' in mind? That one was posted here indeed as far as I remember. And that one is a CM 7.1

The showed android version can be modified by the dev.
The name of the author is probably hidden in settings or in the easter egg (touch 7 times "about phone")
Last "actual" android version that was developed fo ace is kitkat

It's the first time I see this rom.
Do you mean that you like its non-lollipop look? Or that it's a real lollipop rom?

Ah ok I just finished watching the video, the guy said a lot of shareable things about planned obsolence and privacy!
Thanks for your opinion about the theme

Well, it's a very nice rom but I find useless to fuse both the look of iOS and LineageOS on a CyanogenMod rom, it would be better If he just made a pure iOS or LineageOS looklike rom.
I like the fact that he didn't install GApps and the full Facebook app, I won't include them too in my rom too! (I'll try to do it without losing features)
My rom should also be faster than this one, or at the least I hope so
@Mich-C haven't you shared your ROM eventually? I'd be interested too.
Hi @Erpinoob
I'm sorry for making you and other users wait, the reasons are
1)I'm busy for the university
2)Recently I got a boot-loop I'm going to fix
3)I don't want to release 99999 versions of the rom
4)I'm including several "old" tools for android 2.3, often links are not working and so I'm still waiting for developers to provide me new links
4)I'm learning how to develop apps in Android Studio at the university, and I'm taking advantage of this creating 2-3 exclusive apps for my rom
I hope to finish the rom after christmas holidays, anyway I'll tag in the post all those who left a comment in this thread
Greetings
