Yep nandroid...I don't think you have much choice but at least you will have a backup..Also if factory reset does not work you can flash back to stock with odin then restore your backup.. There maybe other problems going on but try the basics first then see what happens.

Sorry for my newbie question, but is there any way to restore from a CWM backup via PC (using Odin or something else).
The reason is that whenever i go into CWM recovery, it crashes and reboots before i have a chance to even select the update.
< Background Story> I accidently updated my Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 while it was rooted on Stock rom, it wouldnt turn on after that, but keeps rebooting at the "Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300" screen. i tried to install stock firmwares, i tried countless times with CWM to recover, but all failed. now my only option left is to Jtag or give it to the service centre.
So guys is there any way i might be able to install my backup from the CWM recovery i made earlier?
Guys PLEASE Help out a noob. I shall be very thankful.
have you tried reinstalling a stock firmware with Odin?

It gives a Write fail or something. I've tried all sorts of firmwares. I've tried flashing the Recovery from CF Root but unfortunately it just restarts the phone after 2-3 seconds after being in it. So can't restore it from there

I'm another noob but I have been reading and just DL'd and installed the S3 Toolkit from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488 It looks to me like it will let you do all kinds of things from the PC. I haven't used it yet but there's a good list of options.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

You should try and wipe your data/restore factory defaults from the recovery menu itself.
can't promise, but it might help.
Good luck

Can you boot into recovery and do a wipe data? That should allow your phone to boot successfully.

It's an XDA trait. Maybe it's for the thanks or the post count. In a few cases, I've given working solutions and the OPs came back and said it worked, yet I'll find a post after that suggesting the same or something different (sometimes it's easier than what I've suggested, sometimes it's harder and sometimes it's not what the OP was asking for)

Okay.So most likely I already lost my data?Because I still have a backup of that that "backup' on my PC.
Update
I manage to fix my backup file by replacing some of its data form a older backup. And it works,I manage to restore my phone. Thanks anyway
So my S3 went into a boot loop. And I dont know how I got to this point but now the phone wont even boot, when plugged in to my comp it shows the battery symbol but its greyed out with the circle in the middle, and it stays like that. If i hold the power putton it comes up with the Galaxy SIII GT i9300 screen but then goes back to the battery. I can get it to go into download mode though. I think somehow I may have deleted all the files required for the phone to actually boot(Im a n00b so im not completely sure) Can somebody please help me?
I was on custom ROM before and my binary counter is at 4, so sending into samsung doesn't sound like a great idea :/
Thanks for the help and sorry if this has been asked before, I have searched for hours.

If you also can go into recovery, try to wipe. In addition did you flash any custom kernel?
If not, try to reflash a rom with odin after you got into download mode or did you try this already?

If you mean with CWM mod, no I cant, it just shows the Galaxy S3 GT i9300 screen then goes black. Yes i did have a custom kernel, I believe it was the latest Perseus one. I already tried this with a stock rom and it idnt work, it said it had passed but i still can boot the phone.

as you can go into download mode but not recovery, what about flashing CWM another time (if you did not try it already). Maybe it solves the issue with recovery and from there you could go on trying to wipe etc.
Other options would be to do a mega or super wipe (if this is possible from odin & download mode, not sure though), to get your phone completely empty (mega) or at least to factory reset (super).

The thing is there is nothing wrong with my phone in terms of hardware. The problem that I am having is purely software, I think I just need to restore my phone to a previous version. I did see that thread but didnt feel my post belonged there as my problem is nothing to do with broken battery or mobo or anything along those lines. Hence why I am posting here
Just factory reset via recovery then flash a stock rom via Odin .

I did install a stock ROM and it was still stuck on bootloop, left it like that for an hour, still nothing. So I went into CWM (after flashing it) Wiped and factory reset (noticing it said error mounting /data but ignored) and then restored with a backup I had. it did say error mounting /data and so skipped that step. Still stuck in boot loop. now that I try wiping again the same error occurs, error mounting /data any ideas please?

Hi all, hope somebody can help me.... I am currently stuck in a boot loop on my i9300....
How did this happen? well....
I'll start at the beginning... I received an ota update notification for the 4.3 update and without checking the internet to find out how good it was/wasn't, i stupidly downloaded and installed it! as we all now know, its terrible!
So.... in an effort to get out of the nightmare that is 4.3 i downloaded odin on my computer and rooted my phone with cf auto root, i then downloaded I9300OXAEMG4_BTU from sam mobile. I put my phone in download mode, hooked it up to the computer and flashed the said xaemg4 rom via odin. Everything seemed to go well and the phone rebooted.... but now my phone just continually shows the swirling samsung boot screen and never gets past it!
So, what went wrong and how do i sort this mess out?? Should i try to reflash the rom again with odin will i just make things worse?
Just for info, i do not have a custom recovery on my phone, i just used odin to flash.
Please help me out guys. :crying:
Cheers

nice to know that it worked for you..
i'll explain what i did to get here.
I was in stock rom 4.1.2, and i decide to flash a custom rom, after several tests i decided to get back to stock rom and i used the mobile odin, when i flash the rom using mobile odin, nothing happens, and rebooted the manually the phone and when i did this, the phone got locked/bricked in Samsung GT-I9300 screen.
So i tried any ways to turn on the phone and i got sucess, but when i unbrick my phone, he start to freeze all the time and reboot all the time for it self, everytime that it freeze i had to wipe cache partition to turn on and use, if a did not do this, the phone stuck just after sansung screen.
I'm lost, i tried everything and the phone keeps freezing, rebooting all the time.
Please, someone help me!
Thanks.

Well why didn't you put that in your thread i'm not a mind reader
Seriously though have a look at doing a mega wipe first look here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/tool-mega-wipesuper-wipefactory-t1832326 << then flash a custom stock rom.Place it on your ext sd card first because the mega wipe will wipe everything including your system.
Read exactly what to do first so you fully understand.

Lol for some people that is advanced
If you have done a mega wipe and installed stock rom correctly there are not many options left
(1) You could try another stock rom (Just in case their is something wrong with the one you are trying to flash)
(2) Try the rescue firmware (But only use as a last resort because it containes a pit file)
(3) Service center
