[Q] Polar H6 and H7 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've installed 4.3 through KIES on my i9300 and was hoping Bluetooth Smart would work. However, I can't seem to pair my Polar H6 HRM, nor my wifes H7.
Has anyone either of these hrm's working on their Galaxy SIII with Android 4.3?

I have a H7 sensor and it's working good with stock 4.3. Remember, you must pair the sensor in the app and not on bluetooth settings. There are only a few apps working at this moment like Runtastic Pro, Polar Beat (you can find the apk here on xda because it's just for S4 but is working without problems on S3), Sportstrackerlive and others.
I upload the polar beat apk here for you .
Just one more thing, sometimes the H7 or H6 goes crazy and stuck so you cant pair, in this case remove the battery and conect the sensor to the stripe (without battery) for 10 seconds, this will completely discharge the sensor (this process is decribed on polar forums).
Good luck!!

[Q] Malfunctioning Compass on Galaxy 5.0 WiFi

Hello Developers,
I bought a Galaxy 5.0 for my brother and we love it. One problem we have though, the compass doesn't properly, I hear because of the 2.3 upgrade. I've rooted it with enropy's daily driver and I've played with some roms, (CM9 ) But I'm looking for a rom that has a working compass that is at least relatively stable. I would even consider downgrading to 2.2. A bug fix from Samsung probably wont come, so a fix from here is much more likely.
We tried to use the player as a gps and the map kept spinning because of the compass.
The software we use for the gps is Copilot.
Any ideas?
the compass on google maps/navigation works fine for me on gingerbread. have you tried that?
The map looks fine, but the pointer may spin in many different directions or stay in one direction. The other app I used, spins the entire map based on the compass, so it became unusable for pedestrian directions.
try turning on sensor aiding on the location and security menu in settings. (mine was unchecked, i checked it and got a super fast lock on my location) if its already on, try it without. you may be near some magnetic fields that are screwing with your gps.
Hey, thanks for the tip. I already tried it with both the box checked and un-checked, and still no help. Here's a video I found on youtube with someone with the same problem. youtube.com/watch?v=PnPU4UV_ywI[/url]
that happens to me sometimes but i just put it on a flat surface and wait until the gps icon on the status bar stops flashing and its usually fine.
if your arrow doesn't stop moving or the gps icon doesn't lock after maybe 3mins then the issue might be the whole magnetic field thing.
The compass on other devices I used in the same place worked perfectly well, and putting it on a flat surface doesn't really do much to help it, because it become erratic again when you pick it back up. It's more apparent in any compass app. On my phone, it always points north, even if I spin or move. On the SGP5 it just points to a direction and stays there , then jumps to other directions that are wrong.
I've noticed the same thing. I don't think it's a matter of finding "the right thing to try". I suspect that it's either the device or Samsung's implementation. I hope for a Kies update someday.
Yeah, but I heard it worked before the gingerbread update. I wish I know, but mine came with gingerbread already installed.
so did mine. although i didn't spend much time on stock before i switched to another rom. Right now I'm running my own custom rom that I may release to the public when I think its perfect, you may try that once its released since I told you myself I have no issues. If you want an immediate solution you can try these off the top of my head:
- go to task manager > maps > wipe data
- reflash gapps (20110828 gb version)
- clear cache/dalvik in cwm
I'm probably dumb and maybe that has nothing to do with fixing it but hey, if you haven't tried it already....
Try waving the device around in a figure 8 (Only using your wrist to do the motion) . I know... weird but it helps with the spinning compass issue.

Compass or Gyro?
I think that somewhere in the programming that the compass got mixed up with the gyro because even when left untouched mine still spins rapidly. When it does stop it almost always points the wrong way. Try an app that is supposed to find metal, when device is placed on metal the metal readings fade to zero, but if you stand in the middle of a field and shake the device the sensor will go to maximum.
I have this problem that has been described and haven't had any luck finding a solution. I bought mine in February with gingerbread. Why would Samsung sell these galaxy players without fixing the gps?

[Q] Gear S vs Gear 2?

Hi
I thought about get one of those watches (Gear 2 vs Gear s), so which is superior?
Can someone please list cons and pros with both and some unique features, that both have.
Tried Google a bit, but can't make up my mind so want the pros and cons from you guys!
Thanks in advance
I had the original Galaxy Gear but skipped the Gear 2 because I thought it was basically the same thing.
The Gear 2 has a camera and an IR blaster to control your TV.
The Gear S doesn't have either of those.
The Gear S has a larger curved screen which I like.
If you need something that takes pictures and video then get the Gear 2.
Otherwise get the Gear S.
I have Gear 1, Gear 2 and Gear S
Gear S Wifi and SIM for 3G, GPS.
With Gear S you can keep connected at your phone even out of BT range. You can receive notification from your phone through Wifi or 3G even if you forget your phone at home.
Big screen so easy to reply with keyboard.
You can track sport activity with buil-in GPS even without phone.
Ambiant sensor for automatic brightness.

Agreed.
I actually went through the same dilemma. Watch some youtube videos of both of them hands on and see which on suites you better. The connectivity of the Gear S is what sold me. The "remote connection" via wifi/3G, as stated by previous poster, is a huge factor for me as I tend to forget my phone around the house/car/or even leave it at home. This allows you to receive your notifications over the air. The gear 2 has bluetooth and its done. May not sound too bad but the bluetooth range can be very spotty. Sometimes my bluetooth will cut out after less than 10ft (not sure why).
Gear 2 has the camera and ir blaster that's basically it. For the price difference I went with the Gear S it just made more sense in the long run.
The Gear S has one major feature not discussed, although its kinda useless at the moment there is only 1 app in the app store that supports it, the barometer. A lot of people think this sensor is completely useless but its not. On top of giving barometric pressure info it also records elevation changes and much more. GPS is good but is not accurate enough alone to measure these changes and relies on the barometer. Hence why a lot of new Samsung phones have this sensor.
Yes, Brometer and UV sensor on Gear S.
For example I made 2 same exercices (more longer on 2nd week) 2 weeks, first with Gear S in standalone et second next week with phone only.
With Gear S Altitude : 369-372m is right value by Gear S barometer

With Phone 247-252m with GPS totaly Wrong

The name of the barometer application? I can't seem to find anything on the store.

Gear O' Clock: Geoscope. Its $1.50 and a clock so I apologize kinda misinformed saying it was an application.
Yes, Geoclock is good for use like a compass app : compass + altimeter/barometer

Second : Is there is a timer in the LG G ? If there isn't , can I install a 3rd party app on it ??
Third : Can I pair it with my phone and my BT speaker at the same time ??

One of the things I feel this watch is missing (besides heart rate monitor and adaptive lighting sensor) is the crown. Although I only say that because I wanted a way to "lock" the watch every so often from accidental touches by clothing worn. Theatre mode does not cut it (actually ineffective), there is another way with root, it just requires a crown to get you back to safety. That is the biggest hassle I have with the G, and it's not really that big of a deal.
For your other questions:
Yes and no. GMail notifications do come through, but to read your email through the watch later on, your Gmail needs to be set up in the phone's stock email app as well (or there may be a watch app option I am not aware of, any way with the method here luckily you can turn notifications off on one of the instances so you are not bombarded twice).
Timer is built in. As is stopwatch, and Alarm. When the time on the former and latter is up, the watch vibrates until you respond (phone will not kick in with a tone). Similarly, if you set a timer or alarm on your phone, I have never seen the watch kick in. Think this was the case for AOSP-based and OEM-based (ZenUI in my case) phones.
Not sure, never done it (this is my first bluetooth device). At any rate, that would be a limitation of your phone, not the watch's problem. The watch (like any Android Wear device), can only be paired with one device.
Other comparison details:
You can (apparently) get twice the battery life (3-4 days) out of the SW2 compared to the G (moderate usage, always on).
NFC connected (option) with SW2 means you can use most phones from the ICS age and newer, where the G is BT only which means late (4.3.x) JB or newer.
The G is about a year newer than the SW2, with a higher resolution screen
The G uses a cradle for (direct, not wireless) charging, whereas it seems the SW2 can plug into a MicroUSB directly.
The G seems to have more activity on XDA.
Comparison piece.
They are both basic watches. If you want long battery life or compatibility with older phones, go with the SW2. If you want more customization options, the G is where it is at.
As a side note, had me interested there for a moment (in regards to a possibly "better in all ways" watch). Once looking into things though, I think my next watch (in a year or hopefully two years time when they are inexpensive) will still be the Urbane.
Hope this helps.
3rd Yes, you can connect your G watch to your phone and use another BT device at the same time, as long as your phone has BT 4.0 (aka BT LE or BT low energy), the same BT as the watch. And even use the BT speaker with the watch alone to play offline music (stored on watch, no phone needed).

Thank u guys for the quick reply , I will be going for the LG G

Amazfit Bip Lite Problem

Today I bought AmazFit Bip Lite brand new, I opened box and tried turning it on, but it’s stuck on logo screen, I can only switch to “regularory” where I can see serial number and that’s it.
I put it now on charger because maybe it need to be charged at 100% for first time use?
I’m so unhappy, anyone can help me about this? How to turn it on??
I think it comes without any firmware, at least mine seemed to. You need to go into Mi Fit and try and pair the watch and it will flash the newest firmware. Fingers crossed for you
Solved problem easily, you just need to recognize the device from MiFit app and it pairs pretty quick.
Lol so noob thread from me but I’m Apple Watch user and all others are so complicated... I bought Amazfitbip for a present

Amazfit GTR 2 smartwatch isn't alerting me on bluetooth disconnection

Hello,
I'm using Amazfit GTR 2 smartwatch for a month. It's not alerting me when my android phone Bluetooth is disconnected or when my phone is out of range. How to enable this feature or is it missing for this model? Please let me know.
Thanks
Not sure to understand. It can only alert you if the watch is connected in bluetooth to the phone.
You didn't get my point. Let's say you wear the smartwatch and you forgot your phone on the desk and go away from the phone. Then your smartwatch should alert you when it lost Bluetooth connection or it is out of range. I know Samsung smartwatches have this feature. But I didn't find this feature on my GTR 2 watch.
Ok. It used to have this feature but like you, I don't find it anymore on my Stratos2 now. I don't remember if it was a setting on the phone or the App. I remember having using it sometimes back but maybe it was with the previous sw called Amazfit (now called Zepp). I used it for a while but it was always disconnecting and reconnecting as soon as you were going away from the phone. A bit annoying at the end. I stopped using it at th end. One thing also, I have noticed that the bluetooth distance is weak with my Stratos now. i'm pretty sure it was much better some time ago. I don't know if it is SW/ROM related, phone related or smartwatch related. I can easily disconnect as soon I'm getting away (5-10m in the house) but it has difficulties to reconnect. Sometimes, the watch is next to the phone and it does not reconnect for minutes. It might be related to Bluetooth managment from my phone (energy saving stuff, Low Bluetooth energy etc..). What I'm sure about is that my son's MiBand (Miband4) has a much better range than my Stratos, more than twice the distance and faster reconnection. My feeling, but it is not really rational, all this happened when they moved from Amazfit SW to Zepp SW. Again, personnal feeling.
