Flash 4.1.2 Ruu - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

My girlfriend has the Verizon S4 4.3..
However she hates it and wants to go back to 4.1.2 or 4.2.... Can I just flash the Ruu file in Odin to go back without any problems?
Thanks for any help!

The tar file for Odin cannot be used to downgrade due to bootloader. Much like the ruu on most HTC phones won't allow a downgrade due to locks in the bootloader.

Yep....your only option would be safestrap and a few roms compatible to run with it.
safestrap enabled, Hyperdrive driven

Or root and clean it up. I did even though I hate stock. TW and Sense are both horrible. VZW and carriers make it worse with the bloat. Root, delay and freeze. I even deleted VZW apk files so I didn't have to worry about them running. I'm on straight talk though, so I wouldn't need them anyway.

Yeah, thanks. She's not very tech savvy and prefers the old look. Smh at locked bootloaders

Mobile Odin back to stock

Can you use mobile Odin to go back to stock? I did it this way in my gs3 just curious if you could on note 2.
Thanks!

Did you even look in the mobile Odin thread? It says right in the op our device is supported if you have an unlocked boot loader.

Yes I did and thanks. I know it is supported but wondering if anyone has tried it.

If I had to guess I would say it wouldn't work for going back to stock or if it does you may have issues. May work for the alternate restore but not sure.

Trips your flash counter! Also a higher risk of bricks if the ROM builder goofed up.

Understand that. But is stock rom, ie back to factory then won trip counter and no chance of bricks right? Or am I thinking wrong?

Long as it is a completely stock image it won't. I don't think the route 66 version does either
Won't brick your device long as it is a .tar.md5 file or you make sure MD5 matches. Should be a tar.md5 file though.

Wow....

The 2.06 update pops up every time I unlock my phone. I'm walking to the store, I look at my phone and behold its installing the 2.06 update on its own. Well played Verizon. The thought of selling this phone never crossed my mind, but since 2.04 root is priority over 2.06 I'm highly considering it.

It would probably be better to wait until a 2.04 method is released just incase it works with 2.06

It's not about how good stock is or isn't. It's about being able to do what you want.
Go try and use teamviewer or a vnc server. Need root.
How about Wi-Fi tether that doesn't require a screen password. Need root
Titanium backup? Nope... root.
Game cheat engine's... root
So while the stock interface is fine, no unrooted phone can do the above without it.

VRUAME7 has been rooted

Root announcement just posted. No recovery yet, they're still working on that, and on releasing an updated root tool for the masses. Good news for those that took the update, or received their new phone w/the update on it.

It also blocked the mdk kernel. And I believe it included a new bootloader which blocked the loki patch as well. Could be wrong about the 2nd part.

I didn't buy it outright, I stole an upgrade from a dumbphone line on my plan in order to keep my unlimited data. They only offer the consumer edition from vzw. Plus, I believe there is no warranty at all for a dev edition, and it only comes in 16gb. 32gb needed!

He was probably successful because the Bell device is not "protected" from running unsigned boot.img and recovery.img like the Att device is.
It may not be "protected" against writing a custom system image but it is not clear to me how to dump the stock one in order to modify it.

I just tried Motochopper that works on any model using Snapdragon 600. It failed but it did install a non working superuser so it might be close.
It works on the S4. If it could be made to work with ours would be great. It's a very easy install...don't even have to go into download mode.

That doesn't work on the S4 after the MF3 update. However, there is this:

Which I have been meaning to try on my AT&T Mega, since it is running a very similar software build.

Fails on the device detection. I527 not supported.
Yup, fails on detection. This is very frustrating.
Damn, but you know, if the S4 can be rooted, the i527 can also.
I don't really care about the ROMs so much, because I have flashed so many and still have other devices I can play with. But, I would like to root to delete all of the ATT stuff that I will never use and is taking up space.
Keep the faith....it will come.

[Q] What Roms can we flash after upgrading to NC5 Rooted?!

So i followed Surges method, which worked perfectly btw, but i cannot stand stock samsung. Are there any roms that people are flashing after doing this upgrade that work well with SS? i have read through a lot of the Echoe thread hoping that one would work, but there seems to be a ton of confusion as to whether it works and how to get it to work... Can someone shed some light on the situation?
Gonna take some time for safestrap compatible 4.4 ROMs to become available. One reason why im not rushing to nc5
