HTC Sensation Z710a Changing OS - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
First of all, I have next to no knowledge of anything related to operating systems and my phone and so on, but I can follow instructions well if explained in simple terms. Thank you in advance.
I bought a HTC Sensation Z710a from Ebay and I didn't realize that it didn't have the "normal" Android on it. I've had it for a while now, over a year and I only recently revisited the subject of my OS when I realized I hadn't been asked to update anything like my previous phone (Nexus from Vodafone). I looked into it a little and it appears I have Android 4.0.3 but "Android Revolution HD 6.6.0 XE" by mike1986?
I would like to know what the best thing to do here is, as I would like to update to the newest available Android out for my phone, and I think I would prefer the "normal" Android to the mike1986 development version (but whatever works I suppose).
I have absolutely no idea how to go about this, so any help would be appreciated. Also, my battery seems to be dying a lot faster these days. Will getting a new one fix the problem entirely, and will updating the OS aid in this at all?
Thank you!

Any help!
Please, I really need assistance with this. Thank you!

I would suggest you to take a look in the section for your device for a custom rom which you think look's fine for you and also I'm quite sure that you have a CWM recovery and unlocked bootloader on your phone so that's not needed to be added.
Well, after that simply download the rom and put it on your sdcard and flash it with CWM, sometimes you might need to update the radio to get everything working. After you have flashed the zip you need to wipe data / factory reset, otherwise you might get a bootloop.
I also suggest you to make a nandroid backup before continuing to flash your device

Okay, thanks. Is it at all possible to get the regular version of Android on it though?

Need help with boot-looping Hero

I've searched the forums, and maybe I've just not searched correctly, or for the right thing, but I've not been able to find any information specific to my problem.
Anyways, here's what's happening.
Just picked up a new Sprint HTC Hero, followed step by step instructions to root the phone, no problems whatsoever. Made my nandroid backup, saved to the root of my sdcard, no issues there.
Immediately afterward, I downloaded the Black Sense skin, stuck it in the root of the sdcard, renamed to update.zip like instructions said, turned the phone off and rebooted in recovery, installed the update from the sdcard, rebooted, and now is stuck in a boot loop.
I get the sprint animation, the hero logo with the little android guy, and the HTC splash screen, and then just goes back and does it again.... forever. I have not loaded any other ROM or done anything else with the phone, just rooted the phone, dl'd the theme. Now I have heard about loading a different ROM on the phone, but is this required for the Themes to work? If it is, how would I be able to tell which ROM's are compatible with my phone? Sorry guys, I'm new to this, just trying to pick up info as I go.
Most all of the other threads I have found are directed to other phone users who have installed a Hero ROM on a Tmobile G1 or something like that. I haven't been able to find anything specific for my device, so I'd appreciate any help you all can give. I'm sure its a pretty simple fix, any help?
I had the boot-looping problem on my rooted T-Mobile G2 Hero, and I fixed it by wiping everything from the recovery menu. I dunno if this will help you, since I'm not sure what the differences between Sprint, HTC and T-Mobile's version are, but it might be a good start. :S
thanks
thanks for the quick reply. As usual, I found a boatload of info right after I posted the original thread. I think what I needed to do was to download find and download a rom that is compatible with my version of Hero and android, then find a theme that I like, and then try to update with the theme.
That's about as far as I've got, I'm poring over every bit of info I can find, but its confusing as hell, and poor grammar makes it even harder to understand.

If you did a nandroid backup? boot into recovery and restore the backup, that should reset everything unless you flashed the skin and then did the backup? in that case download a rom for the cdma hero (guessing thats what you have?) rename it update.zip and put it onto your sdcard, boot into recovery and wipe EVERYTHING!, then flash your update.zip. only install themes for specific roms.
yea, had no problem with making the nandroid backup, and after the boot-loop, I pulled the battery and then booted in recovery to restore. No problems there.
I guess I just didn't get enough info before I started messing with the device. Thanks for the help tho.

Unrooting and downgrading G2 touch

Hi there, just got a question that i'm hoping somebody can answer for me.
Currently i'm running a Villain 4.0 Custom Rom on my phone. I'm now thinking of selling my Hero and upgrading to the desire.
I don't want to sell the phone in it's current state (i.e rooted with custom Rom), with no disrespect to the devs behind the ROM intended as they have done an excellent job, it does have battery life issues.
My questions are that to go back to its original state i.e a T-mobile G2 Touch is it a simple case of following the unlockrs guide http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/03/how-to-unroot-the-htc-hero/??
If so once reverted back to 1.5 stock will the person buying be able upgrade to 2.1 via the official route once it is released?
one more thing, does reverting to stock 1.5 have any issues? i've heard somewhere that GPS doesn't work if done.
Thanks for your patience in reading this long post and hopefully somebody can answer.
Cheers
install one of these: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559622
and your phone will be "as first day"
I mean: ROM will be a "retail" one, radio, recovery image and SPL will be changed back to "official one"
ps: I don't think is a good idea to do this: HBOOT will changed and the next phone owner won't be able to install custom recovery, root and, ... since fastboot exploit is not anymore present. you should just install a stable SenseUI ROM that way rooting and other fun things will still be possible
install a stock generic rom, for example from here the HTC Generic 2.73.405.66 unrooted version. flash the latest radio before, this way you can make sure the gps works afterwards. then boot up the rom, check if everything works, go to recovery, wipe all, shut down the phone and put it in the box.
if you install any RUU the buyer has to go through the process of rooting again, wouldn't be nice imho.
and next time please check the subforum you are posting in, this was the wrong one...
Thanks for the replies guys
i think you're right, leaving the phone rooted would be the better option for the new buyer saving him the pain of the dreaded Gold card method.
I'll probably flash one of modacos roms. Now, since i'm only a noob on android and as i've understood from your posts, gps wont work. What do i need to do to get it to work? how do i flash different radios? is it before a rom flash or after?
@kendong2, sorry man i thought i was posting in the right forum, for future note where should i post a thread like this? Cheers.
Yeah, don't go down the process of installing an RUU.
Follow Kendong's instructions to the letter.

[Q] Starting All Over...

Good Morning Guys -
About 6 months ago, I switched from having an iPhone (Jailbroken, of course) for years to an Android phone. Being a geek, I wanted a new challenge and wanted to play around with the platform. I purchased an HTC One which at the time I thought was the best and proceeded to root and test all kinds of new (to me) ROMs, apps, Tasker (love it) and other stuff.
What I'm wanting to do now is basically 100% factory reset the phone - including it's storage. I want it so that when I first boot the phone, no folders exist except for ones needed upon first boot so that I may correctly set it up the way I want from scratch. I've found tools which claim to do this, but before using wanted to first post to make sure of the correct way to do it (or a better tool) so that I don't corrupt anything.
I'm not selling the phone - just starting over. Therefore, don't care if after cleaning will still be rooted or not / have a stock ROM or not as I'll reconfigure once clean.
The ROM I plan to use post-cleaning is ViperOne 4.3.0 as it's the one I enjoy the most. If I cannot install it and clean at the same time, no biggie - I'd rather do it correctly than the fastest way. Below are my phone's current specs. If I need to post any more info, please let me know.
Phone Specs
- HTC One (AT&T)
- Rooted
- S-OFF
- ViperOne 4.3.0 / Android 4.4 / HTC Sense 5.5 / HTC Sense SDK 5.65
- Build Number 4.06.1540.3
- TWRP
- Kernel 3.4.10
Thanks for your help!
Edited Question:
Just had a thought. Would simply booting into TWRP and wiping specific items work? If so, I assume I'd have to install a ROM again after wiping, but before rebooting. Yes or is there a better way?

Just download the official ATT RUU from the HTC Website and flash that. This will bring your phone back to factory state just like you got it from day one.

Thanks -
Are you talking about this ROM? Basically, I Googled "HTC One ATT RUU" and this was the result.
If so, I have a couple of questions, please:
1. When installing new ROMs in the past, it's never wiped any of my date in other folders on my phone. All apps are gone until re-installed, but browsing the root reveals many non-OEM folders. What makes this ROM different to where it will do this?
2. After installing it, what will the state of the following things be?
- Rooted?
- S-OFF?
- Recovery Manager Installed?
Thanks!

1. Yes that is the ROM and everything will be gone, what the RUU does is format the internal storage and then install everything new.
2. Root will be gone and so will recovery manager. However S-OFF will remain intact since that is outside the operating system layer.

Thanks a lot for your answer. When I initially modded things, I used a few different sources. To re-root and mod everything again, should I use a tool like HTC One AIO Tool, is there a guide which will have the best method for doing all of that stuff, or anything else you suggest? Going to start on it here in a bit...
Thanks!
Unsure since I can't root mine due to work.... Did you get a chance to revert everything?

[Q] Help needed.

Hi everybody. Like always, when I get into troubles with my phone I search for XDA's help but thing is, this time I didn't found what I needed.
I have HTC Desire Zara UL S-On with unlocked Bootloader and for me it's great phone, kinda like it, but after this mistake I made I'm not that much into it.
OK let me start. I had stock KitKat 4.4.2 with HTC Sense 5.5 on it and I decided to install custom firmware on it, CyganMod 12 which has minor bugs, camera, it doesn't see mine Router even tho everything else in my house connects to it without no problems.
I tried to find stock ROM to flash it but I didn't had success. Tried to find Custom KK rom for it, no luck. I cannot restore because I didn't backup'd previously OS and I'm sure I kinda wiped it from the phone. Is there anyone to help me, to give me step-by-step instructions or something? I would really love to get it back on KitKat like it used to be. Thanks in advance. Alvin.
Fixed it. Found stock recovery, boot and rom so everything is cool now. Thanks for "help"

Reinstalling HTC One M8

I have a old HTC which I would like to get back to its somewhat original form.
Problem: Before, a long time ago I have wanted to root my phone however at some point I had TWRP on my phone which some people may have had problems with before. I had a friend in the family to try and fix it as it never got to its main lock screen but the HTC screen when turned on. Other than that, he had removed the OS on the HTC and would like to know how can I reinstall the OS to the HTC and how can I remove the TWRP?
I would really like to use this phone again and the software status is "Modified" if that helps to know.
Hopefully someone can help me with my problem and can also help me make it back to "Official" software status.

Not sure what you are getting at here. TWRP works great, and is the most common, and recommended custom recovery for flashing root, custom ROMs, etc.
Most problems with TWRP and root (at least with this device) are due to user error. Most frequent mistake is using wrong (old) version TWRP and/or old version SuperSU.

Wiping the OS was a mistake. Flashing the proper version TWRP and proper version SuperSU probably would have fixed the problem (and give you a phone with root, like you wanted!). It doesn't really sound like your friend knew what they were doing.
Another mistake, was that you should have made a backup in TWRP of the stock ROM, before trying to root. If you had, you could have just restored that backup to get the phone working. Moral of the story, don't made mods to the phone (like root) or definitely don't wipe the OS, if you have no idea how to restore the OS! You should know how to return to stock, before doing any of these things.
You can return to stock by locking the bootloader with command: fastboot oem lock
Then run the appropriate version RUU (last version was Marshmallow 6.20.502.5) which you can find in my Index thread under "RUUs": https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2751432
