Well I already have a back up of my EFS folder.(I backed it up after sending the phone to repair after f***ing the cellular network cfg)
The question I have, is there anything else besides that folder that is IMPORTANT and requires a backup.(Besides my personal data)
I looked around the GT-I9300 forums and found mostly the mentioning only of EFS backup.
Not really. Only /efs partition is unique, everything else is easy to recover if you have /efs backup.

The reason I am asking this, is due to the last time I tried to install a custom rom I managed somehow damage the EFS partition(IMEI remained intact) after that the phone refused to connect the Cellular Network(It did see the SIM and the network but showed Netwrok: Unknown)
Had to send it to repair, luckily the warranty took affect and they fixed it
So if the same issue occurs once again I can use the EFS backup I made to recover and fix the issue right?

So if for any reason, any part of the phone data(such as IMEI, SN, MAC Address etc) that has anything to do with Network get f***ed I can use the EFS backup I made to restore that?
I am asking just to make sure the EFS covers all those stuff you see in Settings>>About>>Status that are related to Network.
Cause I don't want to go through all that hassle once again by sending the phone to warranty and repair..
Many Thanks !!

He didn't try to unlock it did he??
You ever figure it out
I have the same problem. somebody please help me
I have the same problem as well, happens randomly on my vibrant. No service and imei null/null. flashing thru clockwork doesnt change it but odin fixes it temporarily.
I take it that nobody backed up their original EFS folder and files..
When rooting you had to back up your original EFS folder before trying to unlock your device!
EFS contains sensitive IMEI information.
I don't think you can recover the imei if you never backed it up to begin with.
So you might have null/null IMEI or even a fake IMEI 0000XXXX <-- something like that.

I did backup original EFS and restored as well. It shows my original IMEI but randomly my phone shows no service and my IMEI is reset to null/null. If I remove battery and reboot phone everything works fine until God knows when.

Hi All,
I don't usually post anything but I use XDA a lot as it has helped me in numerous ways...
I would like to ask if anyone can confirm that by doing the below I can re-enter my IMEI in my S3...
1. From Terminal Emulator type "su" to gain root permissions.
2. echo 'AT+EGMR=1,7,"Type your IMEI here"' >/dev/pttycmd1
3. Press enter and reboot.
Can anyone confirm?
On an S3? I doubt it very much indeed.

I have't done anything to the phone yet, I will flash a different ROM soon and from my research I find that once people flash a ROM their IMEI might change which then impairs the phone from connecting to a network.
I want to be prepared in case I need to restore my IMEI. I have read of way that you can back up the efs folder and this is something I am investigating.
But, I want to have a back up plan in case I need something more.
Do you know of the above process? I have seen you tube videos and it seems to work, although I am unaware if this will work on my Galaxy S3.
Can you or anybody else confirm if they know this process to have worked?
If you take a backup of your efs folder then you're covered for this problem

Very rare for you to lose your IMEI .
EFS backup should be all you need .

Not so rare. I loaded CM10 and when I was done, so was my IMEI. This should be preventable. Yes, I think I can recover because i have a copy of my NV_data.bin file, but doesn't seem like a very sporting thing to do to a person just because they loaded a firmware.

I said very rare from the thousands of flashes on XDA few lose IMEI and 99% of those are total noobs . Plus 99% of those that do lose IMEI have not bothered to read and learn but just blindly flashed with no backup of EFS .
Flashing firmware has never been risk free .

Hi
i did a mistake by flashing my S3 and erased the IMEI. I have any backups from the efs folder.
Now the phone cant find the SimCard and cant connect to the GSM Network.
Is it possible to restore the IMEI by another software based solution?
Or ist my phone scrap?
Thx

Thx for the Information
Any idea how much it will cost?
$350
In fact you can restore your IMEI if you have one (f.e. it should be printed on box with your SGS3), my friend successfully restored his EFS by downloading filestructure and replacing some variables like imei, BT mac etc.
Search for QSTP to repair imei of the phone.

It is better to unroot, reset flash counter and send it in for IMEI re-programming.

I think there is a way to restore your IMEI. Though you should know that it is unique to every phone and you can't just use another phone's backup. Check out this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1772741&page=5 I read it before, might help you.

yes, you require a service center.

Hi All, I have a Problem. I have Ruined my Edge. Genius.
I have some how (read: Messed about with incomplete ROMS) damaged/Repartitioned my EFS partition. I can boot into the device and I HAVE an EFS folder with files in it, but still an IMEI 3500000000000000000000 or similar as well as no signal.
I know Its stupid, even more so to not have a backup, so you don't need to remind me, but any ideas on rectifying this? I know some people have had to get a new Motherboard installed when the EFS partition is missing or empty, but mine is there. I'm hoping something can be done. Maybe a .PIT file? I dunno....
TO NOTE:
I HAVE tried Smartswitch. NO, It didn't work
Any help would be Apprectiated
