It's not a little switch. Open the usb port cover, swing it round and push the plastic spike into the "little switch" hole.
Wish they had done the same for the headphone jack cover

That little thing is also meant to be used with the Dock. Fits perfectly there
I'm amazed by those tiny details that Sony have put into the XTZ

Oh... Yeah... I also have to find what is it. If I do, I will let you know.
Edit: Nothing on the user manual.
@Ambroos, I know you have a lot of knowledge, do you know what that is? It is a small hole on the top right edge of the device. Look like the microphone/dock conector, but it is a bit smaller, candy don't seem to be deep...

Xperia Z (the phone) has the same thing. Probably something related to the construction process. I doubt it actually does anything.

At least you don't have to open any flaps or connect any wires.
What's the difference between placing your tablet on a "wireless" charging pad or in a cradle anyway?
A cradle looks much nicer and neater. Inductive charging wastes a part of the energy, generates more heat and is generally slower.

With wireless charger you may use any case, with dock only original one or of the same construction (type). Energy waste is not substantial in this case, a lot of people plug in tablet for a charge overnight, it doesn't matter that it will take 1 hour more, because you can partially compensate it by using more powerfull charger (e.g. from Ipad or samsung 2,1A work well) instead of original 1,5A which chargers forever even in craddle).

Nice. Clean and simple. But... "Best Stand Evah!"? I don't know about that.
There is an Ikea store here, guess I will go check one out. Also might look at Target to see if there is something similar.

There's an IKEA about 20 minutes from my house and just across the street from my office. They do have a lot of cheap disposal quality crap but they also sell some pricey things that are built really well too.
Thinking more about it, Ikea is not that close, and doing a quick search I could probaby find a table easel made of metal for not much more but local. I would only use it for watching movies when not on the couch. hmm like at the office
Is the bottom of the holder large enough that you could cut a slot in the bottom to make the connector accessible without compromising the structural integrity of the stand?

What connector are you referring to? The dock connector on the bottom? The USB connector on the top left? The power connector on the lower left?
Looking at the photos it doesn't look like there is any kind of a groove on the horizontal piece of wood so it would seem the tab could slide off pretty easilly if you're poking at the tablet. But it does look like it's about 50% wider than the thickness of the tablet.
If you're talking about having the power cord plugged into it while you have the tablet in portrait mode then why not flip it so that the power port is on top and not the bottom? That's what I do when I use my Arkon foldable stand and I need to charge the tablet at the same time.

No need for modifying the stand, just place it upside down, most ROMs and application will auto rotate, you will free the connector as well as get a better viewing angles as reported by many.

Nice. I've actually been using that same ikea stand for a few weeks now as well. I bought a new one, but found a 7 year old one, which is identical, except that the horizontal shelf sits half an inch higher and the aged wood matches the rear skin protector....

Hi Guys,
Just purchased below Logitech Tablet Speakers for my Sony Tablet S, its good for our Sony Tablet (as the actual voice output is quite low).
This seems to be perfect solution, price S$56
NOTE: ANYONE USING DIFFERENT AND PORTABLE SPEAKERS, as you know that sound quality of Sony Tabket is very poor..
Fits perfectly on cradle.

I use Phillips SBA1600BLK/27 Black Portable Stereo Speakers.
About $21 from Amazon.com. For being only 5.25" x 1.50" x 0.75", they sound surprisingly good and loud. They weigh about 4 ounces and use three 1.5 V size AAA batteries that provide around 40 hours of operation (Phillips says and I agree). They have a POWER OFF-ON switch and a small non-distracting amber LED under the face grill to let you know the power is ON. A flat foot along the bottom of the speakers allows for them to be stood up as shown in the photo. The 3.5 mm plug locks tightly into a hole next to where the 12" long cable exits for storage and to form a carrying loop. They also come in white, purple, blue, and pink.
Looks pretty good and has descent reviews!

The speakers have a clip-on feature, so they are clipped onto the backside of the cradle. Notice in the OP's first picture how the speaker's clip is causing the tablet to be pushed/leaned forward in the cradle. You can find more information about the Logitech Tablet Speakers HERE. The web page says the speakers are for the iPad, but they will work with any device that has a 3.5 mm jack.
Thanks for your answers. I might buy one of these for mine...
Just one more question about the Logitech Tablet Speaker... Can it be used clipped on top of the Tablet S? I'm asking this because it's a lot thicker on the top side, and I'm not sure if the clip on the speakers has enough amplitude to clamp there...
Thanks.

NEW Cheaper better alternative DX30 magnetic dock clone ~$12USD

EDIT: The original $17 dock I posted got some average reviews as people were having issues with it connecting properly. I found another one which is actually cheaper at $12 and seems to be working well so far. I havent had a chance to test the charging time yet but will update when I do.

Ordered one as well. This looks promising!
I ordered one of these things from a different site too.
Only after I ordered did I realise that it probably won't play nice with a case, unlike the DK30 which has the removable insert.
I think the other port could be a pass through. It looks like it takes a micro USB input and has a USB output port.

Cool will be interesting to find out what the usb port is for
one thing is it takes some effort for the phone to be plugged in right, doesnt seem to fit tight into the charger , out of 10 tries i got it to charge once
Yeah.. I was disappointed when the dock arrived today. The problem is that the magnetic connector isn't secured. It keeps moving around. I broke 1 of the 2 clips holding the magnetic connector while I was playing around with it. However I found a solution.... I just super glued the entire fitting under the insert together so it doesn't move around. Then put the insert back. Now it doesn't move and I get a secure connection each time.

bummer - was hoping it was going to be better. I guess for the price and after the superglue fix its ok. Can't really justify paying $50 for the official DX30.
btw did you work out what the USB port on the back does?
I agree I cannot justify $50 either. But it's not bad after the fix. I have not played around with the USB port yet.

my wife was able to get it to stick by keeping a paper sheet behind the phone while sticking it in the dock
Just thought I'd share a bit in case anyone's wondering what's inside here.
I tore mine apart cause I was curious why I was only reading 0.5V on the terminals (Phone wouldn't connect after trying numerous times) So I decided to see what was inside.
The four screws on the back are under the rubber feet, and it appears all of them were stripped out at the factory due to metal shavings all over the adhesive on the backs of the pads, and the lack of a proper slot on the head.
After removing those, it appears that the connector sits on a hinge piece inside to allow it to move up and down while accommodating the phone in the slot. Unfortunately, the connector attaches with a slot and couple clips, which are fairly weak. On the plus side, there is a rounded holder on the back itself which keeps the plug from being forced too far down inside (hopefully)
The circuit board is very simple, and comes out with 3 screws, one hidden under the rubber square on the board.
There really isn't much there, it appears that the USB port is simply to power a second device. I tested it and power is indeed coming out of that port. I tested it with my laptop and it does not appear that it passes data through that port to the microUSB, so it is a power-only connector. There is also a small fuse on the board.
I reassembled my unit and it has the proper voltage on the terminals, perhaps a loose connection somewhere inside the connector was to blame. It works but does require accurate alignment, no throwing the phone on the dock and expecting it to charge, which is fairly inconvenient. The idea of the mag connector is to be faster and easier than popping a door open and plugging USB in, but here it takes me just as long. Maybe removing the surrounds on the power pins would help, but that would expose it to shorts, so not sure how good of an idea that is.
Anyway, for $14, it works, and seems to charge. If you need a dock, and you don't have the money for the Sony official, this one gets the job done, mostly.

Well, you could try your local Sony store.
Or there are plenty of them on eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p3984.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.Xxperia+ultra+cover+usb&_nkw=xperia+ultra+cover+usb&_sacat=0&_from=R40

Mag charger
I remember reading a warning of sorts somewhere (Maybe here on XDA) about the waterproofing integrity on these doors being compromised rather quickly from the normal daily opening and closing for charging, dust, etc. The article/post went on to describe how much better it would be to charge with the magnetic port...Faster charging, less wear and tear on the micro usb port and seals on the door etc. I was sold on that bit of info and even before I got my ZU I bought a few of those mag charging cables on ebay. Now I only need to open my micro USB door cover for OTG or MHL access, which honestly, I haven't needed to yet. All things considered I have a little more peace of mind that if I have any "Water" related accidents with my phone I'm not out $650.00 for one stupid little rubber seal.

Looking for a dock that doesn't have fitment issues (NO COVER)

I have no cover on my phone.
Looking for a dock that isn't flimsy when the phone is docked in it.
I bought one cheap as dirt on ebay but the phone wobbles in it.
Any dock you guys use that plants the phone in FIRM?
**UPDATE** I found this http://www.ebay.com/itm/301008589102?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
And it is like a glove I love it. It's perfect.
***UPDATE 2*** when docked music plays but no sound comes out... Strange
I just got the dock from sony online store. Works great. Still has a little bit of play, but it wouldn't be good if it was a tight fit because then it would scratch the phone. It was $42 dollars and change shipped. Magnetic base latches on with a snap. Costly, but great!

I actually made one myself. All I needed was some patience, a piece of wood and a router. I took apart the dock I bought from eBay that could never really hold my phone correctly. Then I custom cut one that could contain my phone, a case, and the cable. It's not quite glued together, but it works. I routed a channel that I could quickly slap my phone in and the magnetic charger is centered appropriately so it can charge with a case.

Thanks. I made a track for the camera to slide into the magnetic charger so it will charge with a simple swipe. Then I can also put up an additional tablet or phone in the remainder of the space.
Here are some pictures of the Sony magnetic charging dock:
It's great! I love it!
Gentleman, have any of you been able to play music WHILE phone is in the dock? When I dock my phone the music mutes but still plays.

Thank you!
I just checked.
Yes, music continues to play when docked. No muting.
I started the music, then docked it. Bolt through the battery came on to indicate charging, and music wasn't interrupted.

I bought a genuine Sony DK-30 on eBay, new but without the retail box. It didn't come with a wide adapter. Damn.
EDIT/UPDATE: I was wrong! the wide adapter was wrapped in a different bubble wrap. Now that I have it, how do I remove the narrow slot and install the wide one?
